Guest Reviews
- Matt (8/5): -
- Heather (8/5): Good location, clean and warm. - Good location for playing golf in the area.
Rooms are clean but a little dated. Plenty of hot water and good shower. Bed could do with being renewed as could feel a couple of springs but clean.
- John (9/5): Great value and all the facilities you need - lovely old building with all the facilities I need while I'm staying in the area. Rooms could do with a little update, but great value for the price
- Musgrave (10/5): -
- Michael (6/5): Okay - God location and value Breakfast option was poor. Dining room for breakfast was open for very limited time and not conducive to leisure break.
- Andrew (1/5): Poor staff attitude - It has a large car park. The reception and restaurant staff are rude to the point that no care is given in the respect that I was the paying customer. The restaurant is often closed to large private parties, and when challenged the staff have a 'so what' attitude.
Following my stay called the hotel to complain to find I have been blocked on booking.com and can't stay as a guest in the future. Considering my company has a corporate account with them, and I alone spend £20k a year travelling to Brough for business weekly, my colleagues have also decided to seek alternative accommodation also citing that the service is terrible.

- Mehan (9/5): Good place to stay on Yorkshire Wolds - What a beautiful place to stay! The room was lovely and large and had a very comfortable bed and it was very quiet in room 117! Tea/coffee/biscuits welcomed. This was our first stop on the Yorkshire Wolds. The health club was £14 for the room to use pool, sauna and steam. It was ok but the sauna could do with an upgrade it was tired looking. A bit steep for what you get I thought. The bathroom/ shower all great. The bistro closes early and the restaurant was too expensive so we walked to the pub 15 mins away - the fox and coney fish and chips were great! There is a costcutter in the market place open 7am till 9pm it’s near the pub. It was great value for money in May but don’t know what the prices are like in the summer. Staff were polite and friendly. The price for the sauna and steam and pool. You do get a towel and locker key.
- Toni (7/5): Disappointed - Grounds. Gym. Staff were friendly A bit gloomy. Room had no view. Lots of fixings were cheap. It just didn't feel like a good quality hotel. With 4 wedding on the day we stayed it was very noisy.
- karen (8/5): - The staff, with one exception, were wonderful, especially Amy in reception, whose help and patience were phenomenal. She deserves a medal of excellence! It was difficult time for us as a family and she gave enormous help with rooms as we prepared for the funeral of a close family member. Thank you for great service, lovely setting and very good food.
- Gary (8/5): - Great breakfast, staff were super friendly and helpful throughout.
- Sally (8/5): Fitted our needs for overnight stay while we attended a wedding in the vicinity. Thank you. - Cave Castle Hotel worked very well for us to attend a wedding in North Cave. Beautiful building & hounds, friendly & helpful staff & fabulous breakfast. Room 24 was a little tired & dated.
- Roger (10/5): Lovely Stay - Beautiful setting, Excellent facilities. Friendly Staff. Special mention for Marianthi in the Courtyard Bistro Excellent Service and a lovely manner. Nothing
- James (10/5): -
- Danders (8/5): Relaxing stay in idyllic surroundings. - Idyllic location with well-kept grounds.
Attentive staff, excellent food and spa facilities. Cleanliness of room a bit hit and miss.
- Linden (8/5): Disappointed with our room which had a window which opened onto a brick wall. Not expecting this from what we paid and - Location and grounds. A birthday party that disturbed our being able to sleep until after 1:30 am. The noise from the entertainment was so loud there was no way to block it out.
- Scott (9/5): Excellent over all - some small tweaks would have made it awesome. - The location was beautiful. The staff were friendly. The hotel was clean. Food was sensational. The room I was in there were pigeons roosting in the small space that was outside my window.
There was zero view unfortunately, only a brick wall.
The Tv was ok, a bit dated and didn’t work with sound on my Apple TV. Worked ok with the hotel cable set up but poor picture quality.
The steam room was out of order.
- Victoria (10/5): - Everything was perfect Nothing
- Brad (10/5): -
- Violetta (9/5): -
- Susan (8/5): - Clean room with large comfortable bed and bath
Close to Yorkshire Wolds Way
Good choice of food options View from room of bins
Breakfast was good but expensive
Noise from car park
- Liz (7/5): Comfortable room, friendly staff, overcharged due to out of date prices in the room information - Lovely location and friendly staff The information in the room was so out of date that we ordered two meals from the room service menu marked as £11.95 and £9.95 with a surcharge for room service of £5 only to be charged £34. We were really disappointed and would not have ordered from that menu if we had known their current prices. We were not offered a refund.
Also the remote control for the tv didn’t work and it was hard to see the buttons on the tv itself to change channel manually.

- Jagoda (1/5): Awful night sleep and no basic bed quality or air in the room. Hotel should have a warning about not having a working wi - It’s beautiful outside The room was AWFUL! The mattresses desperately need replacing. Not only was every spring felt the bed was also slanting down by the headboard which was extremely uncomfortable.
The window was cracked and covered. There was only an option to open it by about few inches however it was around one foot in front of a brick wall from another part of a building which was really high so there was no way of seeing even what the sky looks like. The room was extremely stuffy and after opening the windows because there was no air circulating you could smell sewage from other people flushing toilets. We have requested another fan and we got one that was broken and didn’t work.
If we weren’t there for a wedding we would have left. The rooms are not fit for sleeping in.

- Joe (6/5): Did what it said on the tin, but could do with investing in the place. - Location of the hotel worked for the reason of our visit. The hotel grounds are well kept and it was easy to find.
The bathroom in our room had recently been replaced. Dated - the room felt dated and in places dirty it could do with a good clean and refresh.
We had a floodlight outside our bedroom window which let in a fair bit of light through the night, it never went off.
Breakfast - wasn't really value for money and was a let down.
No hairdryer - had to go to reception to ask for one, this is quite a basic item. If the Premier Inn can provide then I expect this in a hotel room.
- Ian (8/5): - Big comfortable room, great breakfast lovely setting. Nothing.
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional property and value - Stunning property, lovely staff, great facilities
- Tessa (5/5): Pretty outside - Pretty on the outside Room was tired and needed a refresh. Carpets while vacuumed was a dirty, definitely needed replacing. Bathroom smelt and again
- Joanne (10/5): Makes a work trip worth the travel. 😊 - Beautiful location.
Fantastic views.
Service impeccable. Nothing

- Kelvin jennings (10/5): Still the best,as always top quality!! - Everything Nothing
- Christian (10/5): Relaxing -

- Mark (9/5): - Room size
Very clean
Good staff
Great location Nothing
- Katie (8/5): Will look to return thank you for a lovely stay - Loved the facilities including the pool, sauna and jacuzzi worth the extra £14. The staff were very professional and friendly. The breakfast each day was very good. The room we stayed in was pretty basic…maybe some additional touches might have made it worth the cost
- Angela (4/5): Staff very polite and helpful but Would not book again accommodation very very basic . - Historical facade Dated and basic
Amenities very poor
No glasses or water
Hot and stuffy
Window looks straight into another room

- Kelvin jennings (10/5): Fantastic stay again!!!!! - Everything. !!!!!
- Sarah (10/5): We enjoyed a lovely 2nd stay and will be back - Greet location, lovely grounds, interesting history, good sized rooms.
Fabulous service and food in restaurant. Last time we stayed there was no charge for use of spa and now there is.
Room 14 had a view of another wall but if we squatted, could just about see the sky inbetween the buildings.
- Sam (10/5): Lovely weekend - Old history of the place
- anthony (10/5): -
- danshe66 (8/5): - Certainly never had the Yorkshire welcome everyone always talks about. Our first encounter was in one of the narrow corriders with a member of staff shouting get out my way this is heavy.. no problem, but my mum is blind my dad has dementia and my husband blind using a walking aid so none of them where fast on their feet, certainly not fast enough to get out of her way quick enough. What is it they say its the people that make a place... Didnt like as a party of 4 that you just had to find your own seats at breakfast when all the tables were set for 2 and as we had to wait for 2 tables to clear dirty cups and glasses were left on the tables.
- Melissa (6/5): Beautiful location and clean. Building needs a little care and attention and more staff around the hotel would be nice. - Beautiful location, grounds and exterior building with plenty of parking. The bistro was also lovely to visit morning, afternoon or evening- serving lovely drinks and food. The pool was large and the spa was pleasant. Rooms were a little dated. There wasn’t any bottles of water or herbal tea bags in the rooms. The extra cost for a pet was not justified.
- CurlyBB (7/5): - standart room - clean but a bit old Very expensive coffee!
- Karen (8/5): - Setting Very hot in the room which disturbed sleep.
- Pam (8/5): Beautiful place and setting - ask for the “upstairs” experience! - Beautiful building and setting. The restaurant had a good menu and the staff service was excellent. Some of the rooms (mine) had no proper window. It was whited out and very restricted with a closer. It felt claustrophobic.
There was no lounge to sit in only the bar or restaurant but not conducive to just sitting and enjoying a view.
- philip (10/5): yes enjoyed my stay and great choice of food and excellent friendly helpful staff - great historic hotel and fabulous building the view from my window! just a brick wall! avoid room 33 but room itself was lovely
- alex (2/5): Photos on booking.com need updated - Run down and grubby, food service very poor and they will look to charge any hotel guest for use of pool
- Daniel (10/5): - Everything. I don't know how it's only a 3 star hotel
- Malin (8/5): -
- Jan (10/5): -
- Kerri (8/5): Lovely overall, would stay again - Lovely location and grounds, comfortable and clean rooms, good breakfast and spa facilities The breakfast could have been better planned, they ran out of some things that took a while to be restocked
- Dave Askew (10/5): -
- Phillip (7/5): -
- Kenneth (9/5): -
- vic (8/5): Only there for one night but will return - Quirky and interesting N/a
- Keith (9/5): -
- Sally (9/5): Went for a wedding - all ok - All ok Bedrooms cold
- Nick (6/5): -
- Ahmed (9/5): -
- Joanne (9/5): -
- Kate (5/5): - Location Room was very cold, we were charged £4.50 for a jug of water, poor breakfast.
- Diane (8/5): The scenery is beautiful outside. Lovely to sit on the patio in the sunshine. - The evening meal was very nice what we had. The room was very clean. Lovely to sit outside on the patio with a beautiful view of the lake. Would have liked a king size bed and more choice on the evening menu
- Charles (1/5): I would refuse to stop in this room again, it’s in the main I assume old castle and needs a complete restoration - Nice location Room 18 very dated, damp on walls, windows rotten, creaking floors, very tired, signage to room poor, very confusing to get to room
- Richard (10/5): Perfect for a relaxing trip away - Lovely hotel, very friendly staff. The swimming pool and sauna were excellent.
- paul (10/5): - Warm and friendly. Clean nice room. Nice restaurant. Beautiful grounds
- Michael (4/5): The above says it all. Otherwise fine. - Location and architecture of building The room I was allocated had an opaque window which when opened was about 30cm from a facing brick wall . Yuck !
The event music disturbed my sleep. Poor acoustics.
- Heather (10/5): -
- Heather (10/5): Convenient for what we needed - Very grand Not many directions eg:- to get to the rooms, I had to take 2 small children from the Lodge to The Kings Room to get ready for a wedding and I got lost trying to find my way back to my room in the Lodge.
- Swithenbank (10/5): Family wedding nearby and great hotel to Stay and catch up with family - Delicious, fresh breakfast with a lovely variety of food . Friendly, helpful staff at reception, nights and breakfast staff. Plenty of easy parking. .
- Nichola (9/5): - The staff were lovely and we sat chatting late into the night with family the bar stayed open. For breakfast they prepared a table for us all to sit together so accomodating
- GEOFFREY (8/5): Overnight stay only but an enjoyable one - Dinner and breakfast were both very good both in terms of food and staff. Room downside was a shower in the bath not good for people of a certain age. Also we only stayed one night so £14 to use the pool for probably an hour at most seemed a bit expensive
- Lisa (7/5): -
- Michelle (8/5): It would’ve been perfect if the sauna steam room were available to use at 8am instead of being cold and not up to temper - Beautiful setting Nothing
- karl (9/5): Very nice hotel in well kept grounds - Lovely breakfast, in good location Not keen on shower curtains, needs a screen putting up
- Jonathan (4/5): Not a great stay, avoid - Drive in and the pool We booked this for a romantic weekend away for our first year anniversary. Well what can I say we the drive up and great but from then on it wasn't great. Nice touch with rose heart on the bed but we didn't get a double room with a view like we asked for and we asked for a refund but it got declined because they said everything we asked for had been ment but it hadn't . We got a twin room with the beds pushed together with a tampon to keep the bed together to make it a double bed big gap between the headboards and the room was at the back of the hotel with a view of the car park and the bins and the flood light came through our window and people making noise outside in the car park and outside the at stupid o'clock could hear people having piss in other rooms. Carpet had marks on it from a iron and it looked like someone had spilt something on the carpet as you walked to the bed or a dog had pissed as it walked to the bed then jumped on to the bed. Tv was tiny for the size of the room. Bath water was luke warm and couldn't stay in there for more then a couple of mins to try and relax. Shower head had mold on it and pipe was leaking as well and when we asked for fresh milk for our room we was told that they only have the little carton of milk that get left out for days. Most good hotels would get you fresh milk if you ask for it but not this hotel. We asked the receptionist if we could to speak the general manager about our concerns about our room but the receptionist said they are not in, and we were given an email address to send them too. We feel we have been very let down for the money we paid for this hotel. We will not be saying here again, and I have emailed the general manager about our concerns. The only good thing was some of the staff the pool .
- lisa (9/5): -
- Sharonsampson1 (8/5): Lovely stay but ! - Had a lovely weekend here bar/restaurant service perfect infact my only complaint is the room 112 needs a black out blind or at the minimum lined curtains the lights from car park made the room very light we ended up buying sleep masks after our first night
Breakfast is outstanding the home made granola and sausages are very good will book again
- Colin (8/5): - Very comfortable bed. Large room. The room was clean and well decorated. It was situated in the more modern annex. The add on breakfast cost was a little excessive and the use the pool and spa facilities should be included as standard.
- roberts (10/5): Excellent apart from the sauna not being heated in the morning - Breakfast buffet very good but it would be nice to have a smaller option like with a carvery rather than a very large amount
All the food was high quality and delicious Could be priced for smaller breakfast and large if wanted
- elaine (9/5): Polite & clean & staff helpful - Everything was very good staff very helpful Nothing
