Guest Reviews
- Rhaunice (2/5): - All of the Above is what I really really really don't like. Please don't get me wrong when I first came to Barstow my husband and I had to stay at the desert inn motel in Barstow California and the services we received at first was alright. It wasn't how it should've been. My husband and I had to stay at the desert inn motel for bout a week because our new place wasn't ready for us to move
in quite yet. So long story short in other words the desert inn motel now as I see it is nasty, the majority of the rooms that are being renting have heavy infestation of roaches and bedbugs. If I had chance to stay there again, I probably wouldn't due to the fact that I don't live like that and it is very very very detrimental to my health and wellness and wellbeing. Oh and did I forget to mention the black mold and mildew that was in the majority of the rooms, I'll just continue on and end this review with these last words and say it's a true money saver when you're on a tight budget but just know that I wouldn't recommend anyone to stay at the desert inn motel if my life depended on it..
- ANDREY (2/5): - There was no one in the office. They didn't answer the calls. I waited for an hour and then went to another hotel! I don't recommend this motel for your trip!!!
- Vincent (10/5): - Ha
- Daniel R (2/5): - Arrived and the place was slum. Card reader was not working so wanted cash payment. I moved on. Never again.....as bad as I have ever seen
- Daniel (4/5): - Unclean
- Gralind (8/5): - Ok
- Verified traveler (6/5): BEST STAY EVER, - Thankfully i was blessed to have my car break down here, and also blessed, a ride picked me and my car up the next day...I wanted to do a video on how awesome my room truly was, but it was an overall great place i am grateful to have been able to stay the night in(after i cleaned the room)
- Jennifer (2/5): - for
- Robert (2/5): S@#%* show - If you are looking for a D@$% Infested, pro.. hangout sleazy ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING place this is where you want to stay , It was so bad we drove through and left
- Kevin (2/5): No sir, nope, not for me - Getting met by a man with a machete should say it all.
- Jack (2/5): - I was more than apprehensive about staying here as the parking lot was full of, what looked to me, rough looking juveniles (maybe older). The woman at the front desk was very helpful and assured me that it was safe. I was afraid that Expedia would not refund my prepaid rent, so I stayed. If I were Expedia, I would do a site survey some evening after nine. You may choose to eliminate this property. The accommodations were "spartan" at best.
- Mahogany (2/5): - This place was a life saver after sitting in traffic over 6 hours. But it was poor quality, people hanging out all over the place. TV did not work, I saw a roach, and the linen was dirty(thank god I brought my hotel travel kit with sheets and pillowcases). I woke sat 7:30am well before 11am checkout & on the road again. This was the only place available due to the 15 interstate being shutdown due to a chemical spill.
- Cheyene (2/5): - Worst hotel property in 20 years of travel every week. Filthy, unsafe, bugs and I promise, they don't care.
- Dora (2/5): - This place should not be on your website it’s very dirty full of wierdos. I would not recommend this place to my worse enemy this place is horrible and scary….
- Subbarayudu (2/5): - Surrounded by many homeless people and looks like unsafe area and also not provided room services
- Brooke Bargas (2/5): I didnt stay here - I did not stay they said there was a problem with ny payment so I would like another night in exchange for it
- David (4/5): - Top duty.
- Kat (6/5): - it was adequate for a quick stay
- Lorenzo (2/5): - Drug infested areas including property
Horrible
- Marie (2/5): - The area was horrible. We were genuinely scared for our lifes
- Lisa (2/5): - We didn't know it was a residential motel. The clerk, a nice little elderly lady had to unlock the door from the outside to let us in. The water didn't work when we arrived but was later corrected. A stranger just opened our door while we were settling in. The TV remote didn't work and then we saw a roach. It was hard to sleep due to all the characters walking around and in and out of rooms all night.
- Farqad (4/5): - They need work more on their prop
No wifi
Selling light cover was broken, over the sink
Fairly clean.
- Abel (2/5): - Room was dirty. Writing on the walls. No hot water and filthy carpets.
- Abel (2/5): - I would not stay here again.
- Michelle (2/5): - Slow check in. NO running water in room!! Drug deals in front of lobby.
- Donald (2/5): - We booked the hotel thinking it looked good on the outside. When we got there to check in, there were strangers to us walking around the outside of the facility or sitting on the stairs etc. The strangers looked dangerous to us and made us uncomfortable so we decided not to stay and went across the street to the Budget Inn.
- Aisha (2/5): - I was scared checking into the room. Room had no hot water and toilet was clogged. Smelled bad. Red bodily stains on the walls. Not maintained.
- Aisha (2/5): - Waited 1 hour to get checked in. Rooms are disgusting. Dirty and yellow linen and towels. Door does not secure. Extremely dirty everywhere. Smells like drugs. Mice found inside the room. In the morning my car window was broken into. Very unsafe.
- Karen (2/5): Getto in Bartow - Do NOT stay there if you want to live longer!!! Thw smell was so horriable, I almost got sick. Went righr back to the office and got my money back!!!!
- Amber (2/5): - Ghetto
- Amber (2/5): - Toilets plug up
No hot water
- Daniel (4/5): Barstow Dump motel. Only for the desperate. - Arrived after midnight, my single foom was not available, given a 2 bed and told not to touch the second bed. TV didn't work, fridge not working, bed mattress was covered in plastic. No washcloths or soap and sheets didn't fit causing me to sleep on plastic. This is a Barstow dump. Looks good on motel site only.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Place is a mess - It was a very sketchy check in, being yelled who is there in the lobby? The room was not clean, not a trash bin in the room. The bathroom did not look clean to shower in. The TV was very tricky to use, and if you messed with it too much it wouldn’t work. There was a party on the parking lot late at night.
- Anthony (2/5): - I never even got to stay i reserved the room but nobody was at the front desk to check me in had to go somewhere else
- Andrew (2/5): - Cigarette burn on the bedding, dirty sheets, lots of shouting outside.
- Jordan (2/5): - The most scary and dangerous hotel. This is not somewhere you want to stay.
- Ashraf (10/5): - Excellent stay at the desert inn.
- Michael (2/5): - Poor
- Ray (2/5): - Nothing was to like about this place
- Justine (2/5): - I will never stay here again. This place was filthy!!!! The TV didn't work. Half of the outlets and lights worked. There were gang bangers and drug dealers everywhere.I had to leave early because I just couldn't take it. I would have gladly kept my money and slept in my car if I would have known that's where I was going to stay.
- Ashraf (10/5): - Good place to stay on the way to Vegas.
- Semi (2/5): DO NOT GO PLEASE!! - My stay was awful, terrible and I did not stay the two days booked. I had to get out of there because of the trash and contamination. Everything broken, missing or didn't work. Couldn't hear the T.V over the air conditioner. The place is ALL wrong. Needs to be torn down. I'll never go here again. PLEASE DON'T STAY AT THIS MOTEL!!!!
- Barbara (6/5): - I’ve stayed in numerous run down hotels in my life but, they were at least CLEAN. This place is filthy!!!!!! The room reeked!! The carpet was stained with what I don’t want to know!! It’s probably the reason the room reeks so badly. There was no towels, no soap or shampoo and no tv remote!!! The local dregs of society were yelling at each other until after midnight! If you’re looking for a quiet, clean and peaceful sleep/stay, this isn’t it!!!!! If you’re on an extremely tight budget then this place might do. Make sure to wear socks AND slippers!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Craig (2/5): - A lot of transient activity. Appears some live there. Actually we left and went to another motel. This place is unsafe.
- Johnnie (10/5): - Clean rooms
- Glen (4/5): - Plastic covered mattress. Fridge full of other people’s stuff. Rowdy guests.
- John (4/5): - The room did not look clean and the bed linen was stained. Not sure if it had been changed. A plastic sheet was fitted between the mattress and sheet which is always a bad sign. Also a strange smell in the room. The property appeared to have some long term residents and children living there. However they all appeared friendly and polite. After I checked in a gentleman followed me outside and warned me to be careful and not to open my bedroom door as people would probably be knocking on it during the night. Shortly after taking my luggage to my room from my car another gentleman came to my room and advised me to stay in my room and keep the door locked. I then heard two ladies outside having a serious argument which became quite disturbing. I then made the decision to leave the property as I did not feel comfortable in spending the night there. I checked on Expedia website and did notice the rating was 4 which is an indication all is not well here. I would not recommend this motel to normal travellers. I used Expedia to find another motel close by which turned out to be very good and met my expectations.
- Steven (6/5): - WiFi didn't work. Water leaking at base of fridge. No waste paper basket in room. Noisy late at night.
- George (2/5): Unbelievably BAD!! - Went to check in. Walked i in the office. No one there. Called twice on my mobil. Heard it ring and ring and ring. No answer, no answering machine. I walked the parking lot. No employee found. Left went elsewhere, now I want a refund and Hotels.com has been of no help. Very bad experiences with this hotel and website. My advice - stay away from both!
- Michael (2/5): - It looked like they had a lot of people living there! Room and toilet were dirty and sticky! I would not recommend this place except to single men that just want a cheap place to stay! Did I say cockroaches? Expedia, you really wanted to delete this place! 0 out of 5 stars!
- Gary (2/5): - Was very dirty and room stunk with an odor. Main office was messy with trash around. I left and did not stay there. I did not ask for a refund because it was a nasty place. Definitely not worth the $54 dollars I lost paying for the room
- sam (2/5): - It is a DUMP, filthy, unsafe at best
Expedia should not have them as a choice
Very disappointing
- Amberlyn (2/5): - Horrible
- Noelle (2/5): - It was dirty, unsanitary and when we tried to get a refund we were charged more than what we booked the room for.
- Sean (8/5): - It met all my needs. The only issue I had was that their printer was down and there was trouble pulling up my reservation. The reservation should have been accessed from a computer instead of having me get my laptop and connect to their wifi, etc.
- Anna (6/5): - We found some sort of insects on the sheets but they were not bedbugs....
- Travis (2/5): - This is the worst hotel I have ever seen. We had to stay somewhere else. Literally had duct tape on the floor where the wood is separating. This place is being overrun by homeless people. The stench of human waste in and around the buildings made me sick.
- jonathan (8/5): Great place to stay, convenient, good price, safe - Family trip on the way to Vegas. Check in was very smooth. The lady that checked me in was very nice. I was offered upstairs or downstairs, and I chose downstairs so that we didn't have to lug our stuff up stairs. The unit was right in front of where our car was parked, so that was very helpful. Unit was clean. It's an older motel, so some of the features were a little dated, but everything was functional, which is what matters most. Bathtub and toilet were clean and worked well. Sheets were nice and white, and each bed came with fluffy pillows. The heater worked amazingly well. I had an issue with the TV (remote and box weren't syncing), so I called the front office, and they had a gentleman come over right away and fix it. Motel was right on the main drag of Barstow, but it wasn't loud at all. Plus, there's a Dennys on the same side of the street, only a 5 minute walk away, so that's very convenient. Internet was very fast and connected right away. I was able to watch You Tube videos with no issues. Microwave and large fridge worked well. Overall, we felt safe. Didn't hear a bunch of loud neighbors or see sketchy people. For the price, you really can't beat it. Would definitely stay here again. Out of 10 possible points, I'd give this place a 7.5. It'd get a higher score if it has a spa and also a continental breakfast (but then the price would be higher, so I guess you can't have everything in life). Overall, great stay.
- Angela (2/5): - Non andateci, un incubo
- Johan (4/5): - Need to close that.
- Vanessa (2/5): - We ended up leaving because it was not clean and not we did not feel safe in that specific area.
- Gregory (2/5): Stay away - A disgusting place with very sketchy people all over. The room I was giving was disgusting and looked like some had just used it. Abandoned cars in the parking lot taking up space. If you like filth than this is the place for you!
- Stacey (2/5): - Tv wouldnt turn off remote was not working no lights not working bathroom was dirty when check in microwave and refrigerator dirty would not recommend to my family
- Mohammed (6/5): Not Good - Not good. Bed rail broken.. Table legs broken. Mimi refrigerator not working. Carpet very dirty
- Jelissa (2/5): - This motel is closed and shut down by the city. All rooms are red tagged and destroyed. The red tag said, open electrical wiring, rodent infestation, plumbing problems, no ventilation. The rooms looked In terrible condition and lifeless. This location is bad, dirty and unsafe to travel on.
- Jennifer (2/5): - Disgusting and filthy, roaches, mice, the whole place was red tagged and the owner is still renting unsafe and unhealthy rooms, without reprecussions
- Lewis (2/5): - THE MOTEL IS RED TAGGED BY THE CITY. ITS CLOSED AND CONDEMNED. THE LADY TRIED TO GIVE ME A ROOM WITH A RED-TAGGED UNHABITABLE ROOM
- Trisha (2/5): Stay with caution… - We didn’t stay…..we pulled up and it was a very uncomfortable environment. We went somewhere else.
- Jevat (2/5): - Nobody at front desk. Did not even get out of the car. Unsafe and dangerous. Place looked like falling apart. Just left to another hotel.
- Craig (2/5): - I didn't even check in it was so scary, I didn't read any reviews before booking. My bad.
- Jack (6/5): Bad and good - Room 136 has a bedbug infestation. I should have checked, woke up with about 20 bites. The hotel is reasonably priced, the pool is empty, check under the mattress before you settle in.
- angela (2/5): - We’ve never stayed at a motel that was so run down and dirty. We checked in late and was originally given a room that had a horrible smell of smoke and dirt. The furniture also had broken legs laying underneath. The woman that appeared to be the manager changed us into a different room when I went over to complain. The new room at least didn’t smell. The mattresses were wrapped in plastic and the sheets were not the right size for the beds. There were no amenities in the rooms such as soap and shampoo, plastic drinking cups, etc that are always included in any motel rooms we’ve ever stayed in. The people staying at this hotel appeared to be staying as permanent residents (homeless), the cars in the lot were terrible looking, and the people in the room next door were talking very loudly until well after midnight using profane language. This hotel should be taken off the Expedia site as an option!!
- kathleen (2/5): Worst hotel I've been to in the USA - Horrible. Nobody was in lobby to check me in (had to wait 20 minutes for him to return). There was an added key fee and credit card fee of $5. old fashioned Key didn't unlock room (manager had to use master to let me in). No chain or anything on door to protect me. Mouse feces and dead mite in the bed. Horrible. I left. I'm supposed to get a refund.
- brenda (2/5): - It smell like they had smoked 100 year in th room the tv didnt even work it was so outdate people was fighting next to us an well call the person at front desk an ge did not u pay what u get never in my life will i stay there again
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Wife washed the floor. Changed the sheets. The beds were wrapped in thick poly. Tv remote didnt work. Had to unplug it to turn it off. Lamp switch had no on off knob, Unplugged it to turn it off. Sitting chair was torn an filthy. Dog poo in dried up garden between the door and the car. Very Nice shower curtain and shower.
- Heather (4/5): - We're as the staff was nice and friendly, everything else was miserable. In room, the TV didn't work and the bathroom was gross. Out side, it looked like a homeless station or a hookers hotel. Someone tried entering our room, and then once they realized their error, they banged and shouted for most the night on the door next to us. We had just had a very long drive, and I know for the price paid we were not getting even a 4 star hotel. But this was not only gross, but it was scary to stay there. And since it was reserved, I couldn't even get a refund, and go somewhere else.
- sean (2/5): Low rate low quality - This is basic no frills. Property is dirty with lots ofvtrash. Office printer was broken sobi had to prove i had a reservation. No dosp or shampoo in room. 1 pillow per bed for queen beds. The rate i was quoted at hotel.com inincreased when i got to the motel. It was a low price and i got low quslity.
- Lynda (2/5): Awful - We pulled in and pulled right out. The place was a nightmare. Curtains ripped from top to bottom doors smashed in people on drugs everywhere old cars with trash and junk in parking lot. Very unsafe. If you are renting a place to travelers clean it up and keep the area safe. To top it off we didn’t even stay there and was still charged. The hotel and hotels.com neither offered a refund. Such horrible customer service. Advertising this hotel should be reconsidered. Just drive there and you would understand.
- Donald (10/5): - It was ok.
- Yolanda (2/5): - Horrible
- Catherine (2/5): Don’t stay here!!! - This property is terribly maintained. No toilet paper or soap and my room needed a thorough cleaning. No rod on closet so not able to hang up any clothes!! Also walls so thin that I could hear my neighbors every word!!
Never stay here👎👎
- Kevin (2/5): - To many homeless around. Room was dirty
- Monica (2/5): FILTHY TERROR, THATS WHAT THIS IS - THIS PLACE IS HORRIBLE, LIKE ONE GOT IT OUT OF A HORROR MOVIE. IT IS FILTHY NOT DIRTY. BED, SHEETS, COVERS, BEYONG FILTHY, NASTY. OH MY, I DIDN'T SLEEP AND I WAS THERE FOR JUST A FEW HRS. I USED MY CLOTHS AS SHEETS AND PUT ALL SWEATERS ON SO I WOULDN'T USE THE SHEETS. THE SAYING YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR MEANS NOTHING WHEN IT COMES TO THIS PLACE.
- hamish (10/5): one day stop over has way as we go ... - as we are both 80 and on SSI the $-price of yours for one day sues us.I personally, liked the older woman at the window (at night). With her waking us to our room, she sent her do-it-now person, set up the TV+ and made us feel welcome, He not a pretty man to look at.. I looked past all that. nice clean bathroom, large bedroom.my computer did not connect well. In the morning, at check=out ,, i drove all around the parking lots, there are a lot of units,, It work well for us, driving through.
- Mr (2/5): - You might be on this page thinking that for the price of the motel and its proximity to the interstate, that it "shouldn't be that bad" and you can "make it work". Please read this and hit the back button IMMEDIATELY. This hotel is an absolute atrocity - we found 4 cockroaches in our room, our towels and sheets were actually filthy(black, yellow, red stains), the floors were nasty and everything was falling apart. A large whole for rodents in the corner baseboard of the floor. There were prostitutes down the hallway. How do we know? Because we had $300 worth of property stolen from our room by the housekeeper when we went out for dinner. Our stuff was rifled through and hidden items were found and taken. I have NEVER felt so unsafe in my life, and I live in Oakland. You feel like you have to watch your every move, can't leave your room until the coast is clear, and are afraid that the fights that break out at 4 and 6 in the morning are going to get violent outside your window. I felt like was going to get robbed in my room. We had to bring all of our belongings including our car everywhere we went because we were that uncomfortable leaving them at the establishment. We parked our car a block away at a doctors office. Again, you might think, "I can't afford a nice place", "I'm sure it'll be fine, this is dramatic". You'll be sorry. Spend the money and stay elsewhere. This motel was the worst I have ever seen in my 37 years of traveling across the world.
- Chris (2/5): - Toilet full of tobacco
Very unclean, trash, food, clothes of previous party everywhere
Sheets illfitting, not tucked in
Bed frame sticking out, almost injured myself
Bug crawling on counter
No pillow cases on bed I selected
Insufficient toilet paper
No soap
No drinking glass
Poor lighting
- ed (2/5): - Terrible. No pillowcases; broken drawers with no knoba. No waste paper basket. No soap. Malfunctioning lamps. Light fixture was in five or 6 peices.... all falling on my head. Terrible. Id give it less than one stsr if i could.
- Natalie (2/5): None of us died, and that's the best I can say. - At the very end of Barstow, at the very end of a long chain of budget hotels, you'll find the Desert Inn Motel. The light isn't on, so if it's dark and you aren't really looking it'd be easy to miss. And you'd be lucky to do so.
I do a lot of traveling. I'm not picky. I stay in budget hotels all the time, and all I really expect is a decent bed to sleep in, a door that locks and a shower/toilet. Despite this very low bar, the Desert Inn Motel managed to trip over it.
I'm not saying someone was murdered in this hotel room, but someone definitely died. The only sign that it had once been cleaned was a dirty rag left on the floor. The mattresses are essentially wooden frames covered in cheap fabric and a layer of plastic that is, trust me, there for your protection. We didn't even peel back the covers. We slept on top of them fully clothed. After opening the fridge and finding an ancient, moldy sandwich we opted to keep our bottled waters at room temperature. The empty beer cans left on the counter indicated we weren't the first.
We couldn't use the toilet because there was no toilet paper and no one answered the front desk buzzer when we rang. The bathtub looked like it had at the very least been the site of some unholy past activities, so we opted to skip the shower. The curtains at the front window seemed to be... stapled? Taped? to the ceiling.
Again, genuinely the most horrific motel I've ever stopped in. Should've just slept in the car. At least my seats are clean.
- Carlos (2/5): Place needs to get shut down if you ask me. - The rooms were absolutely dispicable. Dirty floors, toilets, No room service, dirty sheets, bed bugs, roaches, thugs hanging out everywhere, parking lot dirty, no water in the pool, the power went out two times during my stay. Just all around false advertisement. We had to get bleach and other cleaning supplies to sanitize our own room. Nobody came and cleaned the room in the entire nine days I stayed here at this ratehole of a motel. But the Asian manager lady was a nice person. The health board needs to come and investigate this place and shut this place down strongly recommend this.
- Pablo (2/5): - It was so bad we did not check ìn
- Matthew (2/5): - Just being real here. Im down to stay in a cheap motel on a road trip for the night. Not hard to please, and im fine if the place is old and maybe even a bit cruddy. This place though...kind of dangerous. There were dudes peeping into cars in the parking lot and carrying screwdrivers in their hands. There were people climbing into the dumpster. Been a long time since I felt unsafe anywhere, and I've been all over the place. Probably wouldn't stay here again, and certainly would not recommend.
- charles (8/5): - Cheap motels are no different anywhere. Its just a place to sleep at night. Too many reviewers are freaked out over the surroundings when those surroundings are the same everywhere in the real world. But the surroundings are just other people doing their things
You do yours and noone bothers you. Good cheap motel for that area.
- Juan (2/5): A drug spot - Its the worst place i stayed someone open my door in the middle of the night the only reason they couldn't is because i had put a bed in front of the door
- Leah (2/5): - Just don’t stay here…
- john (2/5): - Elderly Asian woman who checked me in was kind... its hard to put into words how Bad this place is... AVOID!!!!!
- Rick (4/5): Don't go here
- This is the worst motel anywhere. Drug deals took place in the parking lot. They advertise that the rooms come with mini refrigerator and microwaves, which is a LIE. The outdoor pool is unhealthy.
- Raychel (2/5): - the owner made an uncalled for unnecessary senseless comment while checking in. " he didnt want any domestics" which i have no idea why he would make any kind of comment like that to me. not only was the check-in bad from the beginning,,, there were roaches in the room that we had to share the room with for a whole 3 days even tho i booked the room for 4 nights we only stayed 3. there was no trash can at all in the room no way to dispose our trash at all not even bags... there was no ice bucket or even an ice bucket bag.... to top it off they literally only gave us 1 towel that was stuffed into the whole they are suppose to have neatly rolled towels and hand towles..
- Ann M (2/5): - Floors were filthy. Comforter was sticky. No garbage cans in room. No amenities in room… not even soap. Long term lodgers doing drugs in the common area. Was told I had to add a $5 room key deposit but no one available to give refund when we checked out in the morning.
- LUIS (2/5): Not your place - Very disappointing I am not sure why this place is still in business. Broken windows you will not feel same here by yourself or with family. I do not recommend this place at all.
- Yvette (2/5): - Really bad hotel cacaroches everywhere no towels or toilet paper bad service ever had
