- infract (10/5): Great relaxing stay - What a gem of a find! FIrstly, Atagakawan staff was very helpful and friendly. Next the room was delightful and having a view facing the ocean was great. We slept with the calming sounds of ocean waves. And there were various options for the onsen, from private baths to the standard public ones. Would recommend those who wish for a relaxing stay to consider this place. I would definitely stay here again. Nothing.

- Bar (6/5): Not worth the price, expensive and the rooms are very very old. - The beautiful ocean view is nice. The rooms are super old, even if you don’t see it on the tatami, which was pretty worn out, the carpet around the table next to the ocean view was very filthy. The air conditioner even though we didn’t use it, was completely filled with mold to the point that parts of the wall around it had mold on it. The shower pressure wasn’t good. Early March, it’s not beach season, the price was completely unreasonable for what you get.

The outdoor pool of the onsen was nice being able to hear the waves crashing on the shore. Neighborhood is really sad with many boarded up hotels and almost no restaurants.

- Verified traveler (10/5): Lovely stay, but Wi-fi could be inproved - The staff was friendly, and although the hotel was a bit old, it was clean and well-maintained, so there were no inconveniences. The ocean view from the room and open-air hot spring in the large public bath was truly wonderful. The only downside was that the Wi-Fi was extremely slow, but overall, it was an accommodation I would love to visit again.

The private onsens were spacious and perfect for those with tattoos and couples. The in-room Japanese dinner and breakfast were amazing and delicious. The staff was extremely accommodating and welcoming too.

The staff are friendly and warm and they also have Chinese speaking staff to attend to us. The full sea view from the ryokan and the beach just at the door step were cool. The ryokan is certainly showing its age and some of the wallpaper in the room look dirty and stained. It doesn’t match the great reviews I came across prior to booking.

Having POLA in all the bathrooms was a nice touch. There were stains on the wall and the inner side of the wardrobe. The top of the coffee table was damaged, and the table in the room was dirty. The facilities are outdated and require upgrades.

- Harry (9/5): A gorgeous and tranquil ryokan with a beautiful view of the ocean. Wonderful food and service. - An absolutely excellent ryokan. The sea view was breathtaking with spacious sitting area to view it from. The room was also spacious, though a bit dated. However that's to be expected in a ryokan. They had private onsens for an extra 2000 yen but I never made use of them. The public onsens were large and spacious with indoor and outdoor onsens. Men were on the 5th floor while women were on the 6th floor. The outdoor onsens gave a view of the ocean. The rooms had plenty of provided amenities, though I wish there was an extra towel or two. The beds were comfortable as well. The kaiseki dinner and breakfast were spectacular and featured a wide variety of dishes. A shuttle to and from the station was provided, but it was only about a 5-8 minute walk from the station to the ryokan anyways and it was all downhill. Izu-atagawa station made it easy to go to the izu pennisula and Atami. I had serious issues with the wifi in my room. Most of the time it didn't work and I had to use data on my phone, which wasn't very good due to the location of the ryokan.

Breakfast was amazing! The facility is quite dated. Also, the hallways are open to the outside and anybody can access and walk around freely. This gave a sense of lacking security, especially when returning from the onsen.

The staff is very lovely, even though they are not good at speaking in English, they will help you using different methods. I hope it has a longer check-in time, 3 pm-5 pm is quite a rush for travelers who take trains to come... the train system is not so good because it is not in a big city like Tokyo.

Extra fees and taxes to pay on top of the booking for baby mastress and onsen (that we did not have time to even use) that were not announced at the booking. Staff a bit stressful on the check out timing: at 10am sharp, as we were about going down to check out, we both received a phone call from the reception with a tough tone of voice and a staff rang at the door at the same time to kick us out. Its is stressful for the family, especially when you have a baby boy.

The onsen on the 4th floor has free usage and is great and it has both internal and external parts to enjoy. The traditional breakfast was good and contained local specialties too. There were free buses going to the railway station regularly in the morning. The staff tries their best to help your stay to be as pleasant as possible. The beach is in the front of the hotel. Morning sunshine is directly to the room and if you do not use air conditioner (or forget to use / forget to close the separating boards) then the morning could be very hot in the room. Also we felt the dinner cost was very expensive. The building and facilities felt like it was designed in the 60's (they are clean and working but old designs). No restaurant in the hotel but only breakfast or dinner served in the room, so you cannot have a bigger group to enjoy together a meal (max. 4 person).

- Martin (8/5): Hyggeligt hotel med fin service - Meget hyggeligt sted med perfekt beliggenhed på stranden. Altanen er mere en svalegang og kan reelt kun bruges til at tørre badetøj. Meget autentisk hotel som virker lidt gammelt men rent. God service og efter anbefaling fik vi det bedste sushi nogensinde i Japan.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The staff went out of their way to help us, the shuttle bus picked us up from the station, but it was hard for us to communicate as we do not have Japanese. The Hotel would have been beautiful in its day, but it is tired but lovely. The staff tried to make up for this. I was disappointed we paid $650 for the night for a family of four, unheard of for us. So when I asked about breakfast I was a little thrown when I was told no restaurants around we would have to go to the 7-11 for breakfast and dinner. We had help from the staff to find a great local restaurant
- Akira47f (6/5): Great service but needs refresh on decor - A little late with my review since I went in June 2018 but here it is anyway... The service here is spectacular and they seemed to go the extra mile to accommodate us, but the facilities were a little tired and needed some updating. It also seemed like we had come in the off-season since we were one of only a few guests there for the night. This did make the onsen visit even more relaxing since I pretty much had the place to myself the entire time. The kaiseki meal that they prepared for us was great and I highly recommend you request the meal because we took an evening stroll and nothing else was open that night. Overall, a relaxing night although not much else to do in the town.

- Norifumi (4/5): オーシャンビューの温泉が良い。 - オーシャンビューの和室部屋で日没と日の出が客室から楽しめました。 オーシャンビューの温泉は海外からの友人にも好評で合計４回も楽しんでいました。 部屋での日本式の朝食も気に入ったようです。温泉から見る大島と日の出は印象的でした。内湯からも外湯からも海の景色が楽しめます。 一階のロビーには売店もあります。駐車場はホテル前に海外沿いに停められます。

- Verified traveler (8/5): - 35年ほど前に家族で来たことがあります。時の流れを感じさせないほど綺麗に改装されていて、清掃も隅々まで行き届き快適に過ごすことができました。
- xue (10/5): 非常惬意和放松的酒店 - 房间有大大的阳台正对大海，让人非常心旷神怡，寝品非常舒服，睡得很舒适，露天的温情也很棒，住了两晚，一晚带餐，一晚不带，晚餐和早餐都是在房间里吃，很丰盛，也很新鲜，味道也还不错，下午茶赠送的点心都很好吃，一楼有卖的。走两分钟就有不少餐馆，最近的一家寿司店的饭非常好吃，唯一不太方便的是离便利店有点远，不过酒店下午可以有一趟车免费送客人过去，酒店离车站走路十分钟不到，都是下坡。

- Verified traveler (10/5): Good hotel and worth to come again - It is very good hotel and good to share with others whatever the service quality and manner of staffs. Most important are the environment and the ocean view of the room.
- Katarina (8/5): A very nice experience - A wonderful location with fantastic view from the familyroom. A Tatami room that catered for everything for a Family with small children. Remember to book the hotel with breakfast and dinner. Not many restaurants in the area and the hotel didn't have a restaurant. The booked means where serves in the room. A truly wonderful experience! Also good to bring cash although there are ATM and post Office in the area. Also very little English is spoken in the village. It was very easy to come by train from Tokyo and took around 3 h with express train but not Shinkansen.
- Ka Kei (10/5): 房間很大設備好，前台服務親切，有室內和室外浴場，酒店超近海灘！ - 前台是上了年紀的服務員，和譪可親。這裡的膳食很美味豐富，住兩個晚上都有不同的菜式款待。房間大，榻榻米好睡。酒店近熱川駅，也可自駕遊。
- Ariaaaaaaaaaaaa (10/5): Awesome place to stay - I was really satisfied by their excellent service. Staffs are helpful and nice. They have a great hot spring bath with wonderful view and environment. The room got a good view to the beach . Also hotel provides facilities for guests to spend time in the beach, such as shower, towels and sandals in front of the main door.
