Guest Reviews
- Eileen McDade (10/5): -
- Shannon (10/5): - Fantastic location. Beautiful, historical home. The owners are so incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about local attractions. It was very cozy. Matt’s coffee in the morning, along with greetings from the cats, was the best start to the mornings.
- Tracey (10/5): I would recommend this property to anyone for sure! - The staff was very friendly and was very informative! They went out of their way to make sure we had a comfortable stay! The location was walking distance from everything!
- Kathy (10/5): - Absolute Best Location in Salem. Everything about this B&B was great. Super friendly and beautiful place. Although we were told the place was full we didn’t hear a sound from others. It was a few minutes from the City witch mall and the pedestrian shopping. Also within the same distance to the trolley stop (which I highly recommend). If you’re looking for a great experience then stay here.
- Erica (10/5): A Beautiful Salem Stay - We cannot thank Stepping Stone Inn enough for their hospitality during our stay in Salem! It's a beautiful, central location that is in easy walking distance to everything. The home is so cozy and welcoming, the house cats are cuddly, and Matt's coffee truly gets you ready for the day. Don't think hesitate - stay here on your visit to Salem because you won't regret it! Thank you again, Matt & Kelly!
- falcone (10/5): A positive and memorable experience! - Historic. Owners are extremely kind, helpful, knowledgeable and accessible and provide clear and detailed instructions for your stay. Charming, very clean rooms with private bathrooms and large common areas for relaxing and eating. Perfect location if you’re in Salem for the night. Parking anywhere in Salem can be a challenge, especially if you are traveling in a truck or SUV. The inn owner was extremely helpful upon our arrival while we unloaded. He helped us park free of charge in a garage within steps of the inn.
- Robert (10/5): Had a great time -
- Robert (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ann Marie (10/5): - Run by the kindest people (and friendliest cats!) in all of Salem, and could not possibly be more centrally located! You can walk everywhere from here, and you have a front row seat to any events in the square - it's literally right across the street. Parking in Salem is at a premium, and we are driving a crew cab truck to make it even worse, but Matt went WELL above and beyond to make sure we got a great spot. Do note - it's a lovely old house, but like most old houses, it does have steps, and they are steep. Easily navigable, but being able to go up and down steps is a must. We really really enjoyed our hosts and our stay!
- Justin (10/5): Excellent stay. We’ll be back. - The owners are friendly, knowledgeable, and made you feel at home during your stay. Highly recommended.
- U (10/5): It was a great experience. - Very comfortable. Easy access to all attractions.
- John (10/5): Stepping Stone Inn was a unique and pleasant place to stay while visiting Salem! - Very nice location, just steps from Salem Witch Museum
Very unique inside, clean and tidy, nicely decorated The proprietors were friendly and always around if any problems 2 friendly cats live there too. This is a true B&B and not a hotel It is an old building with amazing updates but the bathroom is small and showers are small. But very usable Not much to mention. Parking is an issue. Not much real estate around there But once you park, no real need to drive anywhere unless you are leaving town for something
- Kylie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Brenda (10/5): Fabulous…we are so glad we decided to stay for a couple of days…wished we could have stayed longer! - Our Hosts Matt and Kelly were lovely, very friendly and accommodating. The location was perfect, everything within easy walking distance. Our bedroom, the Washington room, was perfect. We loved the historic aspects of the Inn. I loved every minute we were there and would go back in a heartbeat!
- Liza (10/5): - Lovely stay at the Stepping Stone. Matt was very helpful pointing things out locally, and their ‘butler’/cat Clifford was a cutie who welcomed us into our room. Close to everything in downtown Salem & right next to the Witch Museum & the town common. Highly recommended. Thank you!
- Stephen (10/5): - We LOVED the Stepping Stone Inn. Super walk-to-all location, wonderfully decorated, and innkeepers Matt, Kelly, and Bobby are genuinely delightful. (So was Clifford the cat!). They had tremendous recommendations for sites to see and terrific dining establishments. Felt like family!
- Amy (10/5): Cozy historic bed and breakfast - This historic house is nestled directly next to the Salem Witch Museum and within walking distance of all the must-see tourist sites. The house is rich with history and the owners were lovely. They offered a low key breakfast in the mornings with deliciously brewed coffee. They also have two adorable resident cats who had fun interacting with the guests. The added perk was the property’s two adjacent parking spots located next to the home on the dead-end side street, otherwise a complimentary parking pass was provided to store your vehicle less than a block away in the public garage. I’d definitely stay here again.
- William (10/5): Great place, Great location, Great value!! - Great location, right in the middle.of everything! Excellent service, great atmosphere, wonderful experience overall!!

We loved everything and had a great time!
- Valerie (7/5): Good -
- Dustin (10/5): - Matt and Kelly were so welcoming and helpful. We felt like this was our home away from home! They even provided a free voucher to one of the local cafe's since due to covid, they were not making breakfast. The café food was amazing and Matt's coffee was even better.
But the best part though out of this whole stay were the cats Blakey and Sonny! Best butlers around town!
- Amanda (10/5): Exceptional -
- Cindy (10/5): Exceptional - Wonderful place. Very clean and so friendly. If ever back in the area would stay here.

- Verified traveler (10/5): - Amazing property run by a lovely family! Very helpful, went above and beyond, home brewed coffee was the best
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The home was unique and very cozy. Close to everything going on around Salem. The owners are very knowledgeable about the history of Salem and other attractions in the area.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Matt and Kelly were the perfect hosts! They accommodated our early check-in without issue, and were so welcoming to their beautiful inn. They provided us keys to both our room and the home so we could come and go as we please, and provided us with tons of recommendations for dinner, entertainment and general things to do around the city! Could not recommend the Stepping Stone Inn more and we will definitely be returning for another stay next year!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Perfect location. Charming B and B. Home has so much history in a town that’s History makes it an exciting place to visit.
- Steve (8/5): - The common areas are wonderful, open and well appointed. Our room required rather steep stairs to access. It had a in suite bath which was excellent but it had taken up some of the room to have been added. A little tight but all told it has been a excellent experience.
- TRACY (10/5): A+ - Wonderful place, great company fantastic hosts! Will be staying there for future trips. Pete was also the cherry on top 🐈
- Chris (10/5): One night in Salem - Great little family run place in the heart of Salem. First class from check in to check out. Would recommend to anyone thinking of staying in Salem.
- Penni (10/5): - Stepping Stones was perfect for our getaway! The house was tastefully and comfortably decorated. Our mattress (manufactured in Salem!) was incredibly comfortable. Hosts were friendly, knowledgeable and welcoming and you couldn't pick a better location - Our car remained parked except for our Saturday outing to Gloucester. Couldn't of asked for more....!!!
- Teresa (10/5): Totally book - It was amazing. The room and bathroom was great. The family that runs it are super nice along with the cats. Could not recommend this place more.

- Anna (10/5): - This is a beautiful house and very good location. The owner very warmly welcome us, introduced about Salem museums and great restaurant near by.
- Gary (10/5): An enjoyable stay - Stayed in this B&B so as to experience Salem in October. It is located in the heart of most activity, within walking distance to everything. The room (Boston room) was comfortable but small with little storage space. This was not unexpected as the house itself was built in 1846. The owners ,Matt and Kelly, are very friendly and very helpful in suggesting restaurants and sites to see. Halloween season in Salem is truly unique and experiencing at the Stepping Stone Inn enhanced our enjoyment.
- Tony (6/5): - It's a very old house so the bathroom's a compromise in fact very cramped, not easy to use at all.
Well placed for exploring Salem on foot though.
- Jessica (10/5): - Was a really great stay. Everything about the Inn and location was perfect.
- TonyaHowell (10/5): - This was my first time to stay in a bed and breakfast. Matt and is adorable family were very accommodating and extremely knowledgeable about Salem and best places to visit/ eat. Our room was cozy and comfortable. The Stepping Stone Inn is very well positioned - we were only a few minutes walk from everything we wanted to see or do. Thank you for having us!!

Lovely room with all amenities and fresh breakfast every day.

The room was beautiful and bed very comfortable. The stairs were a bit of a challenge but the owner was very helpful. The owner also was informative about the local history of the house and area. Thanks Matt and family for a great stay
- John (8/5): Very nice period home - Very nice period home. Great location, right near everything worth seeing in Salem. A short walk to it all. The owners are very nice, and accommodating.
- Scott (10/5): - Could not say enough to explain how wonderful our stay was at the Stepping Stone Inn. Upon arrival Matt was extremely friendly, welcoming, and took his time explaining all the history of the house and sites to see in Salem, which for us (because we didn't plan much ahead of time), was perfect to get a great head start into the amazing town. It was also extremely helpful to book a place that's in the heart of it all. It was nice not to have to drive anywhere, we didn't move our car all weekend. Everything was within walking distance and all of the recommendations were on point. They really do a nice job here and the room was clean, comfortable, and the house had so much character. We were already planning our trip back as we were sadly packing to leave. Also, my girlfriend loves cats, so having two friendly cats at the Inn was just the cherry on top of the stay.
- Aashiyana (10/5): - Great location. Even better hospitality from Matt and Kelly!!!
- Robyn (10/5): Relaxing Trip - The Stepping Stone Inn is a wonderful place to stay in Salem. It is an easy walk to most major attractions in the area. The Witches Museum is next door and you receive complimentary tickets with your stay. The Inn is charming, beautifully decorated and comfortable. The hosts Matt and Kelly are very personable and accommodating. Playing with their young son Bobbie is a bonus. The cats Yorkie and Petey were elusive during my visit. The Inn has parking onsite which is a great bonus. The rooms were clean, the bed very comfortable and I found my new favorite pillow. This will be my go to place anytime I am in Salem.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Tiny room. High price. Difficult parking for two vehicles.
- Rodney (8/5): - Location was great and the host where very informative about Salem. Great recommendations on places too eat.
- Charles (10/5): - Very personable and hospitable would return again!
- Michelle (10/5): Great place to stay... - I loved this place! It was my first stay at a B&B and it was everything I'd hoped. The room was cozy with very comfortable sheets and pillows, the décor was very cool and inviting, and the cats were adorable. Everything was within walking distance, so we parked and didn't need the car again until we departed. The Salem Common is right across the street and I loved that the Witch Museum was next door. Matt and Kelly were very good hosts, they were full of ideas for cool places to see and places to eat, it felt more like we were staying with friends then a hotel...
