• Yadira (10/5): Beautiful time and experience!! - This property gives you a great ryokan experience. I truly loved all the décor—the simplicity, yet at the same time the elegance and beauty. It was a very comfortable place for my family of five. I really enjoyed the stay, even though we could only spend one day in Kyoto, but it was extraordinary. The customer service support was fantastic. They allowed us to leave our luggage at 11 a.m. before check-in, and they also let us keep our bags there after check-out for about four hours. They are very attentive and respond to messages very quickly, even though customer service ends at 7 p.m.; they are always aware and ready to help you. We were very happy with the experience N/A

• Ton (8/5): - The Machiya house was very beautiful and well equipped. The location was great for sightseeing in Kyoto. The check in and check out process was fairly easy as the staff were very kind and helpful. The house was generally clean but there were some areas where there were small spiders around. The bath area was beautiful but it did appear to have some areas that could have been cleaner behind the sink and on some of the shower boards.

You would have had to take them back to the reception office by the station

• Michelle (10/5): Traditional Japanese stay in Fantastic location - We loved our stay at Kakishibu an Machiya House. Wished we had stayed longer. The location is perfect, a short walk to all the shops and restaurants. The house set up worked well, adults upstairs and kids downstairs on futons. Washing machine was used and worked well, loved the drip coffee pot and included coffee and tea. Nothing

• Joanne (8/5): An authentic Japanese property in Kyoto. - The location is great. Easy walk to downtown Kyoto. The house gave a different experience from hotels in a more traditional house. We enjoyed the authenticity of a traditional Japanese house. The decor and garden was very peaceful and it felt comfortable to come back here after a day of sightseeing. The facilities were great and futons comfortable. The staff at Machiya check in were really helpful. Great customer service. Doorways are low and my husband at 6ft3 had to duck. It didn’t stop us enjoying the property. We were there in a very hot July and the aircon upstairs was sufficient for keeping the two permanent beds cool but the upstairs futon area was hot. We put the additional futons downstairs as aircon worked well downstairs

The check-in location is in the different location where we need to travel around 15 mins more after the check-in However, they offered free luggage delivery if you go to the check-desk between 10am-3pm

• Kathryn (10/5): we loved the area and the stay, wish we stayed in Kyoto for longer! the staff were lovely and helpful - great location, very clean and helpful staff pillows were a little uncomfortable and if you are tall you can hit your head on lower doorways, staircase is very steep and narrow to go upstairs
