Guest Reviews
- Ann (10/5): - Buffet breakfast is excellent and one can load up and skip lunch. However, they have lunch specials which are also worthwhile . The best vegetarian lasagna I have ever had, any where. And the restaurant itself is charming, full of plants and friendly atmosphere.
- Rina (10/5): Wonderful stay - Wonderful stay, good location and breakfast offered has lots of options
- Jennie (10/5): Good value - Great Longyearbyen Experience - I love Mary Ann's Polarrig in Longyearbyen. I had one of the best salmon dinners I have ever had last night. And I have had quite a few good ones around the Arctic. They have updated a few of the bathrooms since I was here before.
- Monika (10/5): - We had a great stay. The bath was a little bit tiny but everythlng necessary was in. The breakfast was marvellous, a great variety and very delicious.
- Edward (10/5): - The rooms are basic but the living room and the shared amenities are excellent and very comfortable. The restaurant has good local foods like reindeer and seal and other options and is very nice.
- Victor (10/5): - Nice staff, very helpful. Good free breakfast. They do everything for you to feel at home.
- Matthew (10/5): - Fantastic, quirky, friendly! The meal at the restaurant was the best I had in Longyearbyen and also in recent memory (try the whale steak!). Wonderful breakfast spread, comfy waiting area / common room. Highly recommendable.
- Constance A (10/5): - Fabulous atmosphere at this hotel - it is as though you are one of a science team or early explorers - however these modular type bedrooms have no sound protection and the black out drapes were not sufficient! But the restaurant was delightful with exquisite food - just make to book a reservation early!!
- Karen (10/5): - Perfect location. Out of main area but only 5 minute walk to ‘town’.
Great breakfasts and a restaurant connected to hotel which is also excellent!
- Jason (10/5): - We had a wonderful stay!
- Rolf (8/5): - Like living in a museum. You get an idea of how it was to work as a coal miner and an insight into the harsh arctic conditions. Cosy premisis and super nice bar and restaurant.
- Barbara (10/5): - Mary Ann’s has incredible character, comfortable budget lodging, and good food!
- Howard (10/5): - An absolutely wonderful hotel with an excellent breakfast spread, clean/well-maintained facilities, attentive staff, and easily walkable into town.
- Keila (10/5): - The place was very unique e full of the history of town we enjoyed the staff and the town the 24 hours day was a challenging.
- Debra (10/5): - Absolutely loved Mary-Ann's one of the best things about our trip to Svalbard!!
- Gernot (10/5): - Amazing Hotel, great and friendly stuff that do everything to make you feel at home. The Restaurant is also amazing. The wohle Interiors and common areas are so great. The only Small Negative Point are the Room Doors. You can hear every Single door opening. Anyway a Minor Point in this Great Place. Hope to Go there again…
- Paul Dos (10/5): - A great stay and very unique in style not something you find in many Hotels. The reception is very helpful especially Storm who understood my needs and very caring. The one thing I didn’t like was the creaky floor boards particularly the corridors outside rooms at night it can be noisy. Highly recommended!
- Jocelynn (10/5): - So so so charming!
- Patrick (8/5): Svalbard Green space - Nice place with lots of history from the area and great plants.
Would be a nice touch if they could add a wind break stand for guests to wait for the airport bus.
- Brian (10/5): - Maryann’s is cozy, quiet, and heartwarming oasis in a desert of corporate modern hotels bleached of all feeling. It is a very walkable distance to the city center but far enough away to shake off the town when you want to. Having lunch and dinner as an available option on site is convenient but we very much enjoyed the complimentary breakfast. Everything was so fresh and made with obvious love of serving. I would definitely return here.
- Bernd (10/5): - Any stay is great it’s cozy everybody polite and I love the living room and the breakfast
- Bernd (10/5): - The best when one stays in Longyearbyen :-)
- Irene (10/5): Longyearbyens hyggeligste sted!
- Christine (10/5): - Good value hotel, staff very friendly and helpful. The hotel has a lot of genuine character and rustic. Good value overall.
- Jennie IS (10/5): - Cozy place, perfect breakfast, close to everything.
- Jennifer (10/5): - Lovely stay! Such great staff
- Jennifer (10/5): - Love this place!!
- JUNNA (10/5): - that was nice. can excellent stay.
- James (10/5): Great budget stay - We thorough enjoyed our 3 night stay in this lovely quirky establishment. Although the rooms are not massive, they were big enough and it was so much more interesting than staying in a bland corporate hotel. The staff were amazing and the huge lounge area had a lovely homely feel. Don't worry about the shared bathrooms, they're large, well appointed and there are plenty of them. We would definitely stay again, and would recommended it to anyone. Thanks to all the team there who helped make our trip so memorable.
- Katharina (8/5): - A very cosy place for people who cannot spend a fortune. The athmosphere is sweet and friendly. You reach the city center in 5 minutes.
- Peter (6/5): - The best part of the stay was the breakfast buffet. The staff was from Argentina and were the friendliest ever. Other than that, for the money paid it was average
- Nigel (8/5): - I stayed for four nights at Mary-Ann's Polarrigg.
Overall it was good. The single room was clean and the bed comfortable. A roller blind on the window helped cut out the 24 hour sunlight at night.
The shared bathrooms were kept very clean. My olny complaint was that the show stall drainage was not great and a couple of days the shower soap dispenser was empty.
The restaurant is very nice. The menu is a bit limited if you are vegetarian. They had one vegetarian option, and it was the same every night.
The hotel staff were all very nice. Everyone speaks excellent English.
It's about a five minute walk into the center of town. The airport bus goes to this hotel.
- Michael (10/5): Fun and unique. - Very fun place at site of old coal mining camp.
- Julie (10/5): Stunning polar experience - Mary’s Polariggen was one of the best places we have ever visited
- Patrick (2/5): Prison room - The room was pathetic, like a prison room, and it's with a shared bathroom !!!
The sound isolation was awful, I did hear every step and talk in the corridor.
Very good breakfast though.
For just a bit more I had a LUXURY two rooms accomodation at Funken Lodge the last time I was in Longyearbyen !!!
- Pedro (10/5): - The rooms are great, the Vinterhagen restaurant is top-notch, staff very helpful. Also, the "living room" is very convenient. The quirky, one-of-a-kind vibe of the place is what makes Mary-Ann's so unique. Loved it.
- Ella (10/5): - The accommodatie is great an friendly staff.
The surroundre is not clear for me with the map.
- john (10/5): - Very friendly staff. Good service and good food.
- Erik (10/5): Charming and surreal - As a Twin Peaks fan, I've dreamt about living at The Great Northern – the wooden hotel in the series. Well, this comes pretty close. Simple accomodation with shared bathrooms, but so charming that it's well worth a stay even if you don't like that. Lounge area/living room with fireplace, kitchen for preparing your own meals, a great reastaurant/bar with stuffed polar bears and other surreal interior design and cool details from Longyearbyen's coal mining history.
- Dirk (8/5): - Very cosy accomedation and superb restaurant, it all looks like a (miner) museum, beautiful 👌
- Yuri (10/5): - Mandatory free form fields often yield bad data
- Fin sjarmerende plass. Enkelt utstyrt rom, med delt bad/dusj i gangen. Veldig god mat i restauranten
- John (10/5): - Our second time here and we would not stay anywhere else. Funky, friendly, and fun! Amazing bar and restaurant plus super nice staff! They arranged for taxis to meet us and then to deliver us to the airport. We had a great Arctic dinner w fine wine and a lovely setting. Thank you all for another great stay!
- HANJIE (8/5): amazing trip - Excellent experience in Mary-Ann's Porarrigs hotel, i booked the single room, think it's worth the price, the breakfast is very very good to be honest, i like the living room there, nice and comfortable.
the place - Longyearbyen, i would love to go there again if possible, it's amazing.
- Jennie (10/5): Always Welcoming - I arrived from the US very tired after more than 24 hrs travel. The staff was helpful & welcoming. It is Easter weekend so we were told about store closures for the holiday weekend. It is my second stay at Mary Ann's Polar Rig and I will return when I go back to Longyearben.
- Kevin (10/5): Bucket list tick - Amazing location and I couls spend a day just looking at their collections. T'eas bitterly cold, hit -21 during the day, but was totally snug.
- Tomi Pekka (10/5): Loistavaa palvelua - Aivan loistava paikka yöpyä Huippuvuorilla. Kaikki sopivan kävelymatkan päässä ja henkilökunta ystävällistä ja palvelualtista. Ravintola huipputasoa.
- Armagan (8/5): A nice authentic hotel - This is an authentic hotel converted from old miner barracks. Inside the hotel is like a museum. I loved the every corner of this hotel. I enjoyed my stay there big time. Its location is good - not on the main street, but just a little outside with an excellent view of the valley and mountains and close by the fjord.
The shared bathroom situation has never been a problem. There are plenty pathhrooms in the hallway. I never had to compete for a bathroom.
Their breakfast is very good. They also offer lunch and dinner on premises.
I would definitely go back and stay there again.
- Andrew (10/5): Great place!! - I stayed for 4 nights & loved every moment here. The single rooms are just the right size & there are enough communal bathrooms to go around. The breakfast is enough to get you through to till & the evening restaurant is really great!
- Christina (8/5): - Centralt beliggende med hyggelig atmosfære
- Verified traveler (10/5): Extra-ordinary area & stay - I have spent a week at Mary Ann's Polarrigg. The staff was wonderful. From reception to house keeping, cook to management, all were great. The breakfast is satisfying. The restaurant serves delicious meals. Hotel is close to center, 10 minutes by walking. They organize every polar activity, quickly from the reception. I do recommend this place to everyone who dreams to do a polar visit.
- sara (10/5): - Nice, interesting hotel. You can learn a lot about local history and have a very pleasant stay. Great staff, and a very good breakfast. Minutes walk from town center.
- Laurie (10/5): - A wonderful place to hang out and enjoy a remarkable environment. Very comfortable as a solo woman.
- MARQUITA (10/5): Amazing and unique place to stay in Longyearbyen - This an amazing place to stay. The location is perfect. The rooms are clean and have everything you need. There is a beautiful and large shared living room with comfortable furniture, fireplaces and nice spaces to work and free coffee and tea available 24 hours a day. The dining room is a beautiful greenhouse filled with plants from all over the world. The breakfast is as good as any five star hotel that I have stayed in and included in the price of the room. We had a lunch and dinner at the restaurant and both we very good. It was a perfect place to try the local cuisine. The staff is very kind and helpful. A perfect place to stay for your visit to Longyearbyen.
- Peter (10/5): - I have stayed at this property two years ago. Highly recommended.
- Jeffrey (10/5): A Unique Place in a Unique Place! - We really enjoyed this hotel. It's comfortable with everything we needed, but also has an adventurous vibe. It's very unique in it's decoration/layout, and is a lot of fun to explore. Staff was nice/helpful, and the breakfast is pretty good too! They really embrace the Svalbard spirit, and as such staying here really enhances the entire trip. Great location as well since all the excursions pick up here, and it's a short walk to the main part of town. Would definitely recommend the Polarrigg!
- Karen (10/5): - Loved the place. Only suggestion: better sun blocking curtains.
- Susana (8/5): - Good for one to 2 nights stay as rooms a little tight. All staff very helpful, accommodating! Waiting areas great and very nice to let us stay comfortably till flights due. Love the restaurant setting!
- Mark (10/5): - This facility is a delightfully eccentric place to stay that’s a bit off the beaten path. The restaurant has a small number of selections, but the food is well prepared and presented. The staff was very helpful in booking excursions. The pictures on their website are several years old and may not reflect the current reality.
- scott (10/5): - Place is super funky but in a very cool way, with lots of arctic decor and historical photos on the walls. Hallways at night can be a little loud with people walking around into the late hours and walls a little thin but i had some earplugs which shut out the noise. The common areas of this place were awesome, very different than any other hotel in Svalbard, very cozy and relaxing, nice soft old school jazz on the radio, plenty of couches for lounging and fast internet too. Internet in the rooms was fast too. Rooms are very small and simple but comfortable enough as a simple place to sleep. The communal bathrooms and showers were always kept tidy and clean and numerous enough that one didn't have to wait to use them. The common areas are where you can comfortably hang out and relax as well as meet other travelers if you wish. I would definitely recommend for those that are looking for something with a bit of arctic character, outside the box thinking.
- Ingela (10/5): Mysigt hotell med fantastisk frukost - Mysigt, personligt hotell med trevlig personal. Fantastisk frukost i underbar matsal. Rekommenderas!
- Jocelyne Savoia (8/5): Veldig bra , men...
- Johan (6/5): Need upgrade - This hotel is not new and expectations should therefore not be too high. They serve excellent dinner in Vinterhagen and are very friendly and helpful. But rooms are small. Noices can be heard from long distance. Shared bathroom showers have leaning floors that ends up with a lot of water after a shower. Breakfast is decent, but no Norwegian standard that you get sandwich for brunch included. Here you have to pay for it. They got a clothes washing service for a good price. A full kitchen is included where you can make your own food.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Fantastic place to stay - I absolutely loved every minute of my stay here. The location is less than 10 minutes walk to the town. From the friendliness of the staff to the chilled out atmosphere this place cannot be faulted. Beautiful restaurant serving outstanding food and a bar serving a varied selection of drinks. If/when I return to Svalbard I won't hesitate to stay at Mary Ann's Polarrig again.
- Lorna (8/5): - Good location within walking distance of most places in town.
- Adrian (10/5): - Nice rooms.
Feel like at home.
Nice staff.
-Water tap didn't work properly
- Restaurant offers Whale
- Letha (8/5): - Very good restaurant for dinner. Nice breakfast buffet.
- Aaron (10/5): - Very comfortable and quiet. Good value.
- RAYMOND (10/5): Great place to stay - Great little room, terrific showers and breakfast. Friendly staff.
- Peter (10/5): - I stayed at this hotel for four nights in October, 2021. The hotel employees were wonderful. There's a very nice lobby where you're welcomed with 24/7 coffee/tea. The staff were genuine and fun to hang out with. Breakfast in the morning was equally just as nice. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone staying in Svalbard for even a nice. You won't regret it.
- Sebastian (10/5): - Great place, wonderful people, and very affordable. I had a great time!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great hotel with good location in Longyearbyen. Did the job for our family
- Thorstein (10/5): Great place to stay in Svalbard! - The stay was great and the staff was amazing. If we come back, we would like to stay here. Bojana took great care of us.
- zachary (10/5): Great hotel walking distance for the Main Street. - Great little hotel right next to the heart of town. Rooms where good with a great little hand out area.
The restaurant there was extremely nice and did great food inc speciality local meals. I would recommend this hotel.
- Ryan (10/5): Stay here. - The most cozy hotel I've ever been in. The hotel lobby feels like I'm back at my grandma's house. Also the people are super friendly and help you book adventures in Svalbard. Town is just .5km away over a bridge it makes for a fun little adventure to get groceries. The free breakfast spread is freaking incredible too. A wonderful start to your day.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The heated floors in the restaurant were great and unexpected.
- Brendon (10/5): Kindness and comfort at the end of the world. - This place was amazing to stay at? The location is beautiful and it’s very close to the city center there is a bus that takes you right to the entrance and tours come pick you up from the gates. The hotel itself is beautiful the rooms are clean and the common spaces comfortable. I stayed in a miners room which was small and cozy and served as a great base to get out and explore Svalbard. You don’t want to be in your room long while you’re here. The food in the green house was fantastic, especially the breakfast. The staff was incredible. Nicola Boyana Tina Vitalii and the cooks are all kind friendly people who take an interest in you having a great stay, they really made my stay at Mary Anns wonderful. I’ve stayed at much fancier more expensive places and gotten service and comfort not nearly close to this. I highly recommend staying here.
- Tracey (10/5): - Loved this quirky hotel with lots of history and character. It is a converted mine barracks with lots of original photos and mining gear. It has a restaurant and bar on site. The staff are very friendly and go out of their way to make your trip the best. Very convenient to the city center as well. Highly recommend!
- Julie (10/5): - This is a unique hotel with regard to its presentation. I loved it. The service and friendliness of the staff was superb.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - A unique and delightful place to stay. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff, always pleasant and helpful with excellent food. I will not consider staying anywhere else on my next visit to Longyearbyen.
- tony (10/5): - Quirky hotel - check out mirrored ceiling in bathroom! Great breakfast. Surprised there were no blackout curtains in room considering midnight sun.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Outstanding customer care. Couldn’t have done anything more to make us feel more welcome. Kinga in particular - and her colleagues in general - went above and beyond the call of duty.
