Guest Reviews
- Willard (3/5): Relaxing but the quarters were not clean and a bit rustic for the price. - Nice location and wine. Relaxing views. Not clean. Plus "breakfast provided" was 5 raw eggs and a package of bacon, some cereal packages and milk in the refrigerator for two days.
- Daniel (10/5): -
- Ayodhya (10/5): Good Wine & Great Views - The view from the cottage was amazing. Loved the old & rustic charm of the cottage. Kitchen was well-equipped with complimentary breakfast supplies. Fully fenced yard for our pup to run free. Cozy and comfortable bed. Hosts were gracious to let us taste some wine at the Cellar Door and we took a couple of bottles home as the wines were so good. N/A
- Nithin (8/5): - We went for a getaway focused on 2 things
1. Place for our dog
2. Place ti set up telescope at night
Worked brilliantly on both counts Accomodation had all facilities, and was cleaned well at surface level. However, there were many cobwebs in the ceiling.
I understand its difficult to manage cobwebs on the outside, but inside along the ceiling can be done.
That said, everything else was exactly what we were lookinh fir. And will recommend for sure
- Andrea (10/5): -
- Anjali (10/5): Just gorgeous and can’t wait to stay again. -
- Anon (8/5): Just as lovely on our second stay :) - A self-contained cabin in a lovely peaceful setting with vineyard slopes in the back.
The espresso machine makes excellent coffee.
The fridge was stocked with decent breakfast items, including ground coffee, bread and butter and fresh eggs.
It was nice to be truly disconnected for a while - no Wi-Fi or mobile phone reception.
Our friendly host who was there to greet us at the gate :)
- Jade (7/5): Beautiful mountain views - Beautiful, secluded location in the mountains. Friendly hosts and secure yard for our dog. Lovely verandah to take in the mountain views. The mattress was old and uncomfortable.
- Aye (10/5): - Very peaceful. I could feel that the host really cares about the guests - generous supply of the breakfast items etc.
Great size yard with secured gates and hence it was very convenient for my dog as well. House is cozy, clean and tidy.
Turns out Mount Cole is a town of Minions. Every house has minions working as letter boxes.
It would be definitely more convenient when the internet is functioning in near future.
- David (8/5): - Great location, and having no TV or internet ensured we went on long walks, read some books, wind down and relax. 20 minute drive to Ararat and 50 minute drive to the Grampians was perfect. Overall was a great place to visit although dogs in the distance barking at kangaroos and foxes was off putting at times.
- Jia (10/5): -
- Karen (8/5): - We loved the views of the vines and spotted animals at dusk. Thanks for the breakfast provisions, we used the bbq on the deck and ate it outside. Our dog enjoyed the sniffs in the yard as well.
Thank you for the information prior to our arrival.
- kirsty (7/5): - Location was nice and peaceful, nice fenced yard for the dogs
- Daniel (10/5): - Great hosts, beautiful location
- Nicole (10/5): -
- Dianna (10/5): -
- Helen (7/5): Very serene, loved the fact there was no internet and no TV. The switch off from reality was lovely - Absolutely beautiful setting and lovely hosts. Cellar door right next door was fabulous. Screen doors would be great to stop mozzies/moths etc from entering. Also found the external doors difficult to open.
- Sally (8/5): - Less than half a hour’s drive to Ararat. Cute cottage located right next to the cellar door. Comfy bed, hot shower, and provision of fresh coffee via a quality machine made for a pleasant stay.
- Angelica (7/5): We loved our stay at the Blue House. The host was very welcoming even though we arrived after dark - The setting was very pretty and quiet N/A
- Jenny (8/5): Relaxing, comfortable and hosts were very accommodating. - Peaceful, great wildlife and view Cottage could do with some updating
- Stephanie (10/5): A Serene & Dog-Friendly Escape - We recently had the pleasure of staying at The Blue House and it was nothing short of delight. From the moment we arrived, we were enveloped in the peace and tranquillity of the surroundings, making it the perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of our daily life.
The serenity was truly something special. Waking up to the gentle sounds of nature, sipping coffee while overlooking the vineyards, and breathing in the fresh country air was an absolute dream. The cottage itself was charming, cozy, and beautifully maintained, offering all the comforts of home with the added luxury of complete seclusion - bacon and eggs, YUM!
One of the best parts? It was absolutely perfect for our two dogs! 🐶🐶 They had plenty of space to explore, sniff, and enjoy the fresh country air right alongside us.
We loved exploring the stunning Mt Cole region, then unwinding in the afternoon with some incredible wines from the Mountainside Wines cellar door. Jane and Shane were warm and welcoming, ensuring we had everything we needed for a perfect weekend escape.
If you're looking for a place to unwind, reconnect with nature, enjoy fantastic wine, and bring your four-legged companions along, The Blue House at Mountainside Wines is the ideal retreat. The remote location is part of the charm, but be prepared for limited phone reception in some areas. However, this also made it the perfect place to truly disconnect and relax!"
Nothing against the house. But it does get very hot up there. A dry kind of heat too during summer.
- Rodney (9/5): Would stay there again. Relaxing without TV or internet. Games and cards provided in substitute. - Privacy in a rural setting in a winery.
- Emma (10/5): Secluded slice of paradise - Glorious location with a beautifully appointed cottage. Generous breakfast. Welcoming host. Be prepared to be off grid . Pet welcoming.
- Ricky (10/5): Exceptional -
- Daniel (8/5): Very good -
- Karen (10/5): Thanks Jane and Shane for your warm welcome and introduction to the wines and the incredible work and dedication to crea - Loved the vines nestled into the rolling hills and mountains.
Fenced area for my dog Lexie.
Warm bed!
- Joanne (9/5): Superb -
- Dianna (10/5): Exceptional - I absolutely loved the peacefulness of the property’s location. The view and the sounds of nature was all there to enjoy and take in. The very comfortable Blue House with a wood fire, a well equipped kitchen. All the ingredients there to cook a delicious breakfast. Having no TV, internet and limited phone service worked very well for me. Jane and Shane were the perfect hosts. I would recommend The Blue House to anyone looking for somewhere quiet to stay. The bonus is the enjoyment of tasting some of their finest wines.
- Roslyn (9/5): Would we were looking for in a counttry break. - Quiet location Couch was not comfortable. Some comfy lounge chairs that can be pull in front of the fire would have been nice.
- Joel (9/5): Quiet, Comfortable and Relaxing. - Very relaxing and lovely hospitality. Enjoyed the wine tasting from the wines made onsite. Stunning outlook over the rolling hills. The fire to keep us warm overnight was super relaxing. Our dog loved the fenced yard. We look forward to returning.
- Jack (10/5): Really enjoyed our stay and we’ll be back again soon. - Great for our dog, fenced off area for her to stretch her legs and explore safely.
Fire place is great, set up ready for us to light on arrival.
Owners were so lovely and welcoming.
Lovely quiet location, so relaxing.
- Montgomery (6/5): Was nice but could have been better - The location and the outlook was stunning Wish they had opened the cellar door like advertised. For the price they could have more entertainment
- Robert (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mikos12 (9/5): Beautiful and homely accommodation on a gorgeous property in nature!! - Warm and friendly hospitality upon arrival. Cottage was equipped with everything you would need, and not having wifi or TV (as advertised), was a lovely touch to just enjoy the fireplace, cook some food and read a book. Bliss!!
- Susan (8/5): Very good - Authentic bush cabin with a fabulous fire and cosy bed
- Kristen (9/5): Superb -
- Gurpreet (10/5): Exceptional -
- Catherine (10/5): The serenity and comfort of Blue House at Mountainside Wines was exceptional. - We used Blue House at Mountainside Wines as a base for exploring the surrounding area. The cottage was cozy and comfortable. The hosts had the heat on for our arrival and a stack of firewood ready to go. Fresh eggs, milk and bacon plus cereal and spreads were supplied for our breakfasts. Our dogs enjoyed the freedom of the fully enclosed yard. Jane and Shane were wonderful hosts ensuring we had everything we needed without being intrusive. We will be back! We didn't want to leave! And we should have spent more time at the cellar door next to the cabin to taste some wines.
- David (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lynette (10/5): Perfect - Everything especially the wood fire and wine.
- Katharina (10/5): Friendly hosts, beautiful area, cute cottage - Beautiful surrounds and dog friendly
- Ian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Behnoush (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alfredo (10/5): I stayed up late to photograph the stars and enjoy the sounds -see photo of Orion. - Very pretty, set in a vineyard with lots of open space. We took our two Labradors and they had a great time. The hosts were friendly and helpful and not intrusive. Their micro vineyard produces some really nice wine too!
- Rebecca (10/5): Exceptional - Loved the location and the scenery. Could have sat on the balcony watching the mountains and the stars for days, whilst enjoying some mountainside wines 🍷
Hosts Jane and Shane were delightful and so lovely. Nothing
- Karen (7/5): Good -

Thanks Jane and Shane.
- Jacinta (9/5): The view, the wine, the cute cottage all exceeded our expectations. The hosts were very friendly. - The view was breath taking! Breakfast was plentiful. The best bacon and eggs I have eaten in ages! The hosts were super friendly and most accommodating to my little dog. Nothing! It was a beautiful relaxing stay with everything we could have asked for in the cottage.
- Rochelle (7/5): Enjoyed going to sleep to the sound of nature - Safe area for dogs to run.
Great wine.
- Adam (7/5): Good -
- Anja (7/5): Peace and Quiet - The most stunning and peaceful location! Perfect for a little getaway. Very comfortable bed and pleasant hosts. Also pet friendly, which is nice. Would recommend. The fridge was super dirty when we arrived. Nothing I couldn't deal with and I cleaned it, but my partner was gagging when seeing the fridge. Also, their is no reception at all, which can be great but not when I needed to contact someone urgently. And don't expect a breakfast, they leave some nice things for you to use, but is not luxurious haha. Just something to keep in mind when booking :)
- Mandy (10/5): Exceptional - We liked everything about the Blue House. The hosts were very friendly, engaging and very helpful. Everything was great.
- Angella (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing setting, beautiful hosts and very comfy bad. you MUST try the wines! Nothing! We loved the quiet and the break from technology!
- Yevheniia (10/5): Recommend - Really enjoyed my time there, quite place. Have a rest from big city N/a
- Penny (9/5): Excellent - A peaceful little haven set amongst the mountains. Beautifully clean. Wood fire was our highlight as we got in late and it was rather cold. Not one thing.
- Sarah (10/5): Exceptional - The perfect get away to unplug and unwind. An incredible weekend spent escaping the craze of life without disruption and surrounded by the beauty of the location. Topped off with a private wine tasting - just bliss! Thank you so much Jane and Shane. I look forward to next time.
- Kristen (9/5): Fantastic - View, wood fire, dog friendly and yard
- Michael (9/5): Beautiful and peaceful with the ability to take our dog. - Excellent Location.
Enclosed yard with gates for dog.
Quiet and comfortable. Nothing
- Allie (10/5): Beautiful place to disconnect - Highly recommend staying at the Blue House. Jane and Shane are generous, welcoming hosts. The accommodation is a great size with stunning views. We enjoyed a wine tasting at the cellar door, followed by wine on the deck while the sun set afterwards. Would recommend bringing food to cook for yourself for dinner the night you arrive as it is a bit out of town and the kitchen is well-equipped. The indoor fire was perfect for winter and wood was provided. The bed was super comfortable, the place was tidy and the breakfast provisions were generous. Could not fault our stay and would definitely stay again!
- Tracy (9/5): A cosy, secluded house right on the vineyard - The Blue House is cosy and secluded, right next to the vineyard and cellar door. Although we arrived later than planned, the owners very kindly gave us an impromptu wine tasting and a complimentary glass of wine each, and we were also able to buy a bottle right from the cellar door. The house was comfortable despite it getting cold outside, with a wood burner and ample firewood of different types. The comfy bed also had 2 electric blankets with independent heat settings. The card and board games were good fun, so we did not mind having no Internet access. The self-service breakfast items in the fridge made for a generous fry-up, with lots of supplies on hand (pepper, cooking oil, etc.). The ground coffee in the fridge (in addition to coffee bags on the counter) was a nice surprise! The kitchen was well equipped with a toaster oven, 2 hotplates, microwave, espresso machine and kettle. All in all, there were lots of thoughtful touches to make our stay comfortable. We will be back to stay again in summer for sure :)
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional -

- Maxlec (9/5): Blue house getaway - The location was great. Nice and peaceful. Accommodation was as advertised. Loved it felt homely and the host were lovely too. Just sitting on the porch enjoying the view and watching the moon rise over the hill and the Kangaroos roaming the paddock was simply lovely. Didn't miss any phone or TV reception as it made you appreciate your surroundings. Breakfast was a great bonus too Not staying longer.
- Emma (10/5): Ah…. the serenity! The perfect cosy getaway. - A serene, beautifully appointed property. It was comfortable, cosy and inviting. My puppy was welcomed and had a wonderful time playing in the fenced yard. I particularly liked the homely touches, such as the rocking chair on the balcony. I also enjoyed a wine tasting at the Cellar.
Cooking facilities were good to prepare a simple meal. The breakfast provided was excellent. Personally I liked the remotenesses and not having wifi/internet. I thoroughly enjoyed the tranquility. If one relies on connectivity, this may not be a suitable place.
- Kaltz (10/5): Exceptional -

- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great place to relax with beautiful wines to enjoy
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Google maps is a problem which the owners acknowledged. Signage to the actual house could be a little better. But overall, quiet and peaceful. Delighted with the extra breakfast items supplied.
- Lisa (10/5): - Amazing place
Will definitely revisit
Amazing veiws
Quiet and comfy cottage
- Maria (10/5): - Blue House at Mountainside Wines was fresh and clean, quiet and private, and extremely comfortable, with everything we needed for a relaxing short break. Jane was friendly and helpful on our arrival, and we really enjoyed chatting with her when we went to the Cellar Door to try their fabulous wines. Besides that, we had all the privacy and quiet we could ask for, only broken by the uplifting sounds of birds in the trees outside. When we forced ourselves to go out, Ararat was about 20 mins drive, and Halls Gap a lovely 1 hr drive. But the highlight of staying at the Blue House is sitting out on the verandah overlooking the vineyard, in the late afternoon sun, with some wine, cheese or whatever, and watching the cockatoos fly to and fro. Absolute Bliss. I will definitely come back again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - All good, quiet location, quick drive to Grampians and surrounding areas
- Danielle (10/5): How's the serenity - Jane and Shane are lovely hosts. We had a great time chatting and laughing whilst learning about their beautiful wines.
A gorgeous little get away and perfect place to take in the views, drink wine and forget about everything for a while and just 'be in the moment'
The already set fire place was a wonderful homely touch and the selection of games were an added bonus for inside, once we finally moved off the deck. Highly recommend this as a place to stay and will definitely be back!
- Frank (10/5): - Idyllic farm setting only a short drive from Ararat. Lovely hosts, a very clean blue house with a super comfy bed. After sleeping like little babies we got woken by the sheep grazing at our doorstep, had freshly collected eggs from the farm for breakfast and remembered a life without the noise and rush.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great rural ambience.
Comfortable house with suitable facilities and necessities provided.
- Peter (10/5): Highly recommended for a peaceful getaway. - A bit of the beaten track, it was a lovely secluded (but safe) spot with views over the boutique winery and countryside, wild kangaroos and sheep moving in the early morning.
The Blue house has been beautifully refurbished and very comfortable.
- Timothy (10/5): Tranquil night in a winery - Beautiful location, peaceful, located between three mountains. Perfect for star gazing with no ambient light. Sat on the deck, played games and watched two wedge-tailed eagles floating around. Jane kindly offered us a wine tasting at her winery. Little kitchenette with hot plate and BBQ.
- Anne (10/5): - Very helpful made me feel at home. Just a lovely part of Victoria
- Richie (10/5): - Great relaxing place for an overnight stop over. We enjoyed sipping our freshly made coffee & wine whilst enjoying the view from the balcony.
- Judith (10/5): Quiet winery getaway - We really enjoyed are time st this delightful house. So quiet and everything we could need. No television upset my partner but no problem really. Highly recommend.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Everything was great comfortable and quiet bed was good breakfast was good
- Susan (10/5): A perfect short break - We wanted a night away from it all, peaceful surroundings and time to relax. The Blue House was perfect. A cosy self contained cottage with a wine cellar right next door. We arrived early afternoon and was met by Jane and were made to feel at home. After a relaxing afternoon (reading) we had a wine tasting session and then a stroll up the hill to enjoy the serenity! Jane and Shane are wonderful hosts and we were able to relax in comfort, enjoy the wood fire in the evening and our evening meal, listening to occasional kookaburra and magpie.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Beautiful location only thing was no tv which we like to have and a couple of things were broken
- Andrew (10/5): - This is a true "get away" location. It is off a very minor road, up a country track, and set among the vines of a small vineyard/winery. There is no Internet, no TV and generally no mobile phone reception. The cottage has all that one needs for a self-contained stay. The wood heater adds character, and much-needed warmth during the colder months. The hosts are a very pleasant couple who left the city a few years ago to take over an established vineyard/winery, and are making interesting and good wines. Make sure you take up their offer of a personalised tasting of their wines - it was the highlight of our stay.
- David (10/5): Perfect getaway - no distractions other than the e - This was a getaway and a chance to visit an area I had not been too. I understood there was no phone/internet/tv conectability and this suited me fine. The Blue House was right in the vineyard and gave the chance to drink the wine from the vines on the balcony. The hosts could not do enough but were also respectful of privacy. They gave me a private tasting and tour of the winery as vintage was happening. The Blue house wanted for nothing and one could be as warm or as cool as wished. An easy 5 stars from me.
