Guest Reviews
- Aidas (10/5): Wonderful experience - Nice staff, great dinner, wonderful experience. Everything is very authentic.
- Michelle (9/5): Pretty ryokan in Matsumoto with welcoming staff - Staff were very welcoming and attentive
Delicious kaiseki set menu dinner and buffet style breakfast
They offered complimentary shuttle into town and pick up again at end of day, which was very helpful as the accommodation is about 5mins drive out of centre of town It is an older facility but very authentic and charming
- Ana Isabel (9/5): - Cena Mucho calor
- Liam (10/5): A brilliant relaxing time assured - One of my favourite stays in Japan, staff were really welcoming and helpful, Ryokan dinner was exceptionally good and waitress took great care to offer us everything possible. Great breakfast attended to by lovely waitress too
A lovely family run hotel well worth a visit. Everything was brilliant.
- Émilie (9/5): -
- Jeroen (10/5): Lovely experience - Great experience, wonderful diner Bit cold but good heating
- Monika (10/5): A Japanese experience never to forget - This is a traditional Japanese hotel, it has rooms with tatami mats and futon mattresses on the floor. We had a very pleasant stay. I loved everything
- Ehren (10/5): Tradition style rooms with a good atmosphere - The dinners were very nice and I enjoyed the various bath options The breakfast was not my favorite but the dinners more than made up for it.
- Krzysztof (10/5): -
- Roxana-Geanina (10/5): The most authentic Japanese experience - It was the best accomodation we had in our 3 weeks in Japan. The apartment we chose was big and very comfortable, also very warm for a Ryokan. We loved the traditional clothes they gave us. The hosts were amazing with us the whole time as we dropped our bags before the check in time. Also we got a transfer to the train station when we checked out, very helpful. The food experience on dinner time was next level. We had exquisite food, vet diverse and delicious. The breakfast was a bit more simple but still very good. We would 100% recommend this place to our friends.
- Matthieu (10/5): Very good, we will share this address to many of our friends. - Pretty much everything, extremely good service and food was beyond amazing, must try.
- Laurence (9/5): Amazing traditional family-owned Ryokan offering exceptional food and service. - The place is family-owned for 4 generations. Mom and Dad are exceptional cooks and they are striving to offer the best of the region. The kaiseki dinner and breakfast are abundant and of exceptional quality for the price. The property is in its original form so not the most updated but that is part of its charm. The area was once fields of rice and the city has now reached them so a lot of new buildings are around them and the Inn feels out of place now. But there again, the fact that it remained has to be applauded. The Inn has two full onsen as well as a family/couple onsen that can be reserved. The futons and pillows are comfy. The room never gets really warm so you have to be prepared. However they bring you a hot water bottle to warm the bed before you go to dinner.
- Gertrud (9/5): - Wir haben Halbpension, japanische Gerichte waren sehr lecker. Kann jeder empfehlen.
Onsen war gut.
- Kavaliauskaite (10/5): -
- Charles (9/5): -
- David (10/5): Wonderful experience of Japanes culture and cuisine delivered in a very user friendly and delightful way. - Traditional ryokan with all mod cons You need to be able to embrace Japanese culture - food, shared bathrooms, futons.
- Fabiana (9/5): -
- Birgit (7/5): Traditionell, aber in die Jahre gekommen. - Wahnsinnig tolles Dinner!
Wunderschön anzuschauen und lecker
Klassisches traditionelles Hotel Onsen echt eher gruselig
Im Gewerbegebiet gelegen, also keine schöne Gegend/Lage
- Michelle (9/5): The Japanese hospitality and service level really warmed our stay. - It’s a modest family run accommodation but thought is given to every single detail. Every single staff including the owner is hands on and very personable. During dinner, the owner (who picked us up from the train station) introduced himself as 3rd generation , that his father, wife and brother were also involved in the kitchen and service.
When the reception found out that we had to leave very early (7.20am) to catch our train, they offered to book a taxi for us (hotel shuttle starts at 9am). However the taxi company was not available . In the end, the owner himself sent us to the station.
- Omrit (9/5): - We had a great stay. Its a small, family owned place, all the stuff were very friendly, attentive and the service was great. Dinner was amazing, Japanese style. We have special request for some members (no fish for one, no meat for another) and they prepared special dishes for them. There is a small nice and clean Onsen. The rooms are japanese style, clean and simple. We reserved 2 rooms and received an additional tea room for each room we took. A room for spending free time. The location is not walking distance from the center.
- Odile (10/5): -
- Richard (8/5): Nice - Lovely traditional ryokan run by fourth generation. Small but well equipped tatami room, small onsen. Location was outside Matsumoto, need a car if staying here.
- raffaella piazza (10/5): -
- Uzi Yardena Etgar (10/5): -
- Omer (9/5): - Very helpful and nice staff, amazing dinner, and the onsen was great. You can reserve a private onsen. Very good hospitality. Location a few minutes drive from Matsumoto center. We had a car so it didn't bother at all, and they do have shuttles.
- YUMENO (8/5): -
- David (10/5): The owners and staff put in a 100%. I turned up drenched and they took care of all my wet items and - All the food was exelant, staff attention to guest very good, amenities perfect and the amount where good as the place was always full and no waiting. For someone who likes to walk it was close to station and the town centre 45min and even closer to second station. 5 min walk to a burial tomb mound and short taxi ride to archaeological museum. So can walk to most attractions and als 7eleven and laundry mate. Also good fish and tackle place around the corner. As an ex chief engineer in a hotel and facilities manager. I look for the little things.
Fridge not plugged in so water not cold that was in there. The tv aerial not plugged in completely and the plastic housing damaged. I got everything working as know how. These are all he little things guests expect to work and to have been checked
- Jens (10/5): -
- Julie (10/5): Come hungry! They will spoil you with delicious dinners and hearty breakfasts all served with exceptional kindness. Love - Exceptional experience. A bit off the beaten path but wonderfully welcoming staff, comfortable rooms and exceptional food.
- Shuko (10/5): Wonderful old Japanese building and interior. - Location is a little ways from the train station but we had a hotel van pick us up. We stored the luggage in a large locker at the train station and had lunch and explored the town before meeting the pick up so worked out great!
- Tsui (7/5): Good - Excellent service. Breakfast was excellent. Other guests woke up around 4:45am and walking around outside , opening and closing their doors. I was awakened by the noise.
- Mirko (10/5): Exceptional - Very nice traditional Ryokan, with both private and common hot springs. They offer a transfer service from the Matsumoto station.
We loved the kaiseki dinner and the possibility to wear traditional clothes.
The rooms are spacious and clean, in japanese tatami style.
- Tamar (9/5): A very friendly Ryokan with great food - The stuff was very kind. The dinner was excellent. The breakfast was very good. There is a shuttle from the main station in fixed times.
The big room with private bathroom was beautiful and very comfortable. The location is a bit isolated. Not much to see when walking around.
- Sharon (10/5): Amazing food, highlight of my trip. - Everything was clean, they had 3 different baths to choose from and while they were in the smaller side, I found myself alone for almost the whole time. The meals were amazing and the staff were super friendly and helpful. Haruka (I hope I remember her name right) in particular made my stay very enjoyable. This ryokan was the highlight of my time in Matsumoto! The hair drier was a bit old and very noisy
- Carolyn (10/5): Exceptional stay in Matsumoto, highly recommended - This is by far the best place we have stayed in Japan. The traditional accomodation hospitality, people and food are exceptional. It’s a little out of city nestled in the hills but worth it, particularly if you have a car and would like a base for exploring around Matsumoto. Did I mention the food? It is by far the best Japanese cuisine we have experienced. The set menu is delicate and adventurous. Breakfast is mainly excellent Japanese with huge variety but they have bread and eggs also. Onsens are fabulous. Staff are so accommodating and speak some English to help us who have little Japanese. I hope we’ll be back in the future. Nothing
- Fabio (10/5): Typical Ryokan in Matsumoto - Amazing Ryokan, with baths available almost 24hrs a day. I had the dinner as well and the breakfast. Both rich and delicious. Staff were very helpful and was easy to communicate. Definitely recommended Walking distance to the center of Matsumoto it’s almost 50mins, so taxi or bus is required.
- Kyaw (10/5): Exceptional -
- Peter (9/5): Welcoming and comfortable ryokan with great food - This ryokan was clean, comfortable and welcoming. We chose the half board and the dinners were a standout. A wide variety of traditional dishes with exceptional quality. Breakfasts also delicious. Lots of kind touches made us feel welcome and comfortable.
- Wayne (9/5): We had a lovely relaxing evening at Fukashiso and would consider rebooking if we're ever back here. - Kaiseki dinner was awesome and service superb. All the staff members were so nice. We loved being able to use the family onsen by making a reservation before we had our dinner. Breakfast was set up as a buffet with many of the small dishes that were prepared earlier and set on a counter for the taking so the dishes were not warm or being heated. However the food was still delicious and was sad that there was not coffee machine.
- Jodi (9/5): Superb -
- Anna (10/5): Great ryokan experience! - Lovely staff. Amazing food. A little far out of town.
- Khoong (9/5): Overall a very positive experience. - Has shuttle service from Matsumoto station and staff are always so friendly and smiley. The dinner was AWESOME. Breakfast has good variety and was delicious as well. Pillows. No shower in room.
- Yann (10/5): Exceptional -
- Axelle (7/5): Good - A typical Ryokan with a nice staff. A bit oldish though and expensive for the facilities but clean. We booked a big room for 5 and ended up at sleeping all in the same one and we had another one ( not connected) on top (that we barely used). At the end we should have booked only one room and in that case, the cost would have been better for the quality.
- Suki (9/5): Great experience - It was great Japanese hospitality from the moment that I got picked up at the train station from the ryokan owner. The ryokan had a really traditional feel to it and I was well looked after by the staff. Futon is not the most comfortable for a good night sleep.
- Rebecca (6/5): Sorry, I won’t return … - Not bad value for money No toilet in room. Onsen bathing area slimy. Amenities provided in public dressing room were not managed, dirty. They swapped men & ladies onsen locations mornings & evenings, since the places were not cleaned property, hence yucky. A lot to look into for improvements for repeated customers. My humble opinion.
- Marc (10/5): Exceptional ! - Exceptional place. Exceptional ryokan. Do not hesitate to go there. Exceptional dinner. Owner and staff perfect ! Many thanks for such a great stay.
- Monika (9/5): A great experience - Really nice ryokan. We had a nice family room. Onsen is great. Dinner was stunning - so many dishes with excellent flavours - super service - we liked it very much. Nothing
- Paul (10/5): Nice japanese style hotel, good private onsen, great dinner. - Nice staff, good dinner in a semi private room (with another japanese couple inside), good free private onsen, nice waking up music in the morning in the hallway. A bit too far from activities/attractions in the city.
- Ashleigh (8/5): Very good - Delightful ryokan. Staff were very kind and friendly. It has public onsen (separate for men and women) and a private family onsen. Room was comfortable and it was nice to arrive and have green tea ready in our room. Food was delicious - one of us is pescetarian and the other vegetarian (we notified Fukashiso in advance) and the dinner was extremely good. We enjoyed the sake tasting option.
There is a shuttle from the train station to the ryokan in the afternoon (I think 3:30 and 5:30) and from the ryokan to the station in the morning (9am and 10am). But you can also take the local bus (takes about 20 mins).
- Soepkip (8/5): Proper Ryokan on the outskirts of Matsumoto - Very friendly staff an excellent dinner an breakfast. All good, nothing we did not like.
- Norie (9/5): Superb - Traditional Ryokan style. Despite its somewhat remote location, it seems very popular. The dinner was wonderful, beautifully presented with many touches of local foods, which they were willing to customize as I do not eat chicken/beef/pork. Would definitely recommend eating there as there are not restaurants nearby, really, but also because the food is definitely special, served kaiseki style. Staff was very wonderful and attentive as well as helpful. The location is rather out of the way, but they have a shuttle in the morning and afternoon into the center of the city/train station for getting back and forth which was great-but something to note. For our morning bus (we opted for bus rather than train) to Tokyo, they got us to the bus station with plenty of time to spare, including bringing a forgotten bag to us via a car, which was amazing. Breakfast was "buffet" style, and there were Japanese and western options. Their baths are traditional Japanese style communal, with some time restrictions, but quite nice and relaxing. Location somewhat in the "suburbs" and not much to see in the neighborhood --though there is an interesting temple nearby. Lots of apartment buildings, etc. but not many shops and restaurants nearby, so once one returns there in the evening, that is it. We had a traditional room with futons which was pretty small, but they also gave us a second small room for "sitting". Shared bathrooms down the hall, but clean--slightly inconvenient for mid-night bathroom trips. The bathing facilities are communal including baths and showers, and require you to know the etiquette, But once that is learned, it is certainly an enjoyable experience.
- Evelyn (9/5): Superb -

- Craig (10/5): Perfect place to stay for stop in Matsumoto - Great food, great to have an Onsen, lovely staff. delightful Ryokan Minor consideration---It's a little out of town but they have a fixed time shuttle service. Unless you like to walk or use taxi on arrival it is best to time your arrival with shuttle availability.
- Alan (10/5): A great comfy ryokan with amazing food - This was the most wonderful place we stayed in our month in Japan. Three nights of keiseki dinners, each better than the last. We had a huge comfy tatami room, the onsen were fab, the staff were incredibly kind, dropping us into town each day and collecting us in the afternoon, making it easy to enjoy marvellous Matsumoto. Totally recommend it to anyone who wants a homely feeling ryokan with top end food. It’s not in the most glamorous part of town (40 years ago it was rice paddies, now shopping centres). But it looks inwards so not a problem.
- Katarína (10/5): Exceptional -
- Katarína (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing experience with traditional rooms, dinner and breakfast. very nice people and great wine.
- Leigh (10/5): Exceptional - We came for our honeymoon & we had the best time at Fukashisho.
I wish we had another night there.
The hospitality was 10/10.
My favorite place from all the hotels & ryokans in Japan. -
- Sydnee (9/5): Wonderful ryokan experience with warm and helpful staff - Authentic ryokan that was beautiful and comfortable, The staff were all wonderful and so helpful. The experience was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan. The dinner was also very tasty - better than fancy Kawasaki we had in Tokyo. A little outside of town, but worth it
- Daryl (9/5): Superb -
- Kennedy (9/5): An experience not to be missed - All the staff were attentive and helpful. The food was amazing and the building quite unique..
There was a free shuttle bus into and from the station which was really useful. This was a traditional ryokan, that is why we chose it. As such the futon beds although a bit challenging to two older people, they were as expected. What we hadn’t anticipated and found really hard though was the lack of somewhere comfortable to sit in our room. The seating arrangement provided, two legless chairs, was authentic but we found it hard to get comfortable. Don’t be put off by this, the experience was well worth it. Just be aware.
- Joshua (9/5): Superb - Great ambience, food was amazing, service was top notch! A tad far from the station, nevertheless worth it detour!
- Christopher (9/5): A fantastic traditional Japanese inn within easy reach of Matsumoto station. - Evening meal was spectacular. Hot bath was sublime. Nice touch to offer a shuttle to the station. Liked the history of the place, which is now in an industrial estate, but was built a few years ago in open countryside.
- Christopher (8/5): Lovely hotel close to Matsumoto station. -
- Itai (10/5): Matsumoto I’ll be back - One of the best places we’ve stayed at in Japan. Everything was perfect, the rooms, dinner, private onsen. Not a single thing
- Noa (9/5): Superb - The entire staff is great. They go above and beyond to ensure your stay is the best. We really loved the oppertunity to enjoy a private onsen together.
- Hp (10/5): A real gem of an inn with lovely hosts. - Breakfast and especially the kaiseki dinner were both outstanding. Wonderful baths. The best thing was the hospitality of the hosts. They are some of the nicest people ever! Tatami beds can be challenging for older western bodies, but they do add to the charm of the inn.
- Hayden (10/5): We slept well and ate well - - The food here is outstanding. Breakfast is good, but the dinner service is truly impressive. We lost count of how many courses we were served and each night was something different.
They even catered for one of us being a vegetarian - quite a challenge for Japanese cuisine - and did a fair job of it. But for the best experience, you'll want to be able to eat...well, everything.
The staff were friendly and accommodating.
The baths were nice - great for a soak after a long day exploring. The only problem is the location is quite a distance from central Matsumoto. The property provides a shuttle to and from the station, which is handy.
- Marianne (10/5): Exceptional - Our stay at Fukashiso was beyond our expactations. The staff is so helpful and lovely.
Also, the food is amazing! If you can, we recommend staying 2 nights. They serve you different dishes on the second dinner and it is delicious!
- Danielle (9/5): Superb -
- S (10/5): Exceptional - We used this as one night stop over after visiting the Kurobe Alpine and before going to Nagoya. Was pleasantly surprised with an extremely good dinner. The bath was also nice. Except we are not used to sleeping on futons. None.
- Hester (10/5): Most amazing beautiful place! - This was such a lovely place to stay. The staff were really friendly and attentive, even though we don't speak Japanese. Everything was personalised and we were made to feel very welcome. The food was amazing. The onsen were really nice, and we could book a private onsen at no extra cost. Really recommend staying here, every detail of the place is beautifully thought out. Also there is a shuttle bus to/from Matsumoto station which is really helpful as it is a little way out of town. Not a single bad thing to say about Fukashiso!
- Ewen (10/5): Exceptional - Quiet , excellent food and very helpful staff Pillows were a bit uncomfortable
- Antoinekemp (10/5): Such a nice Ryokan! - Excellent and affordable (compared to other Ryokan) place to sleep. Lovely rooms, three baths (man, woman, family). Book dinner with them! Such delicious food, each dish a picture to the eye. The service explains in your own language what you are eating, using the phone. So cute. You can be picked up from the station if you consult with the Ryokan (is a bit too far away to walk). In the evening you can have a drink in a cute place inside opposite the reception, which is nice because there is not very much around. Location is a bit far by foot from the station with heavy luggage. But they will pick you up from the station if you let them know: excellent service so no worries at all! 😁
- Marlous (10/5): Fantastic Japanese experience - Exceptional service levels, delicious food
- Harm (9/5): Superb -
- Loretta (10/5): We love staying at this lovely, friendly traditional Ryokan. Would definitely recommend a stay here - Loved the staff and the facilities. Very accommodating with the bus schedule Nothing
- Lizette (9/5): Thoroughly enjoyed it! Proper Japanese experience! Just go - Traditional Ryokan, dinner and breakfast highly recommended, lovely rooms, wonderful staff and great onsen. Washing machines very handy Think before on futons. They are thin and not that comfortable. So not specific for this one, more general. But worth trying! Is quite a way out of town but you can use the free shuttle bus morning/end afternoon. Then no problem!
- Shannie (10/5): Friendly staff, amazing service - The Kaiseki dinner was exceptional from start to finish, one of the best meals I have ever had. Great for if you like vintage touches & local home-cooked meals with subtle and amazing flavors. The thoughtful & considered service of this 4th-generation family run Ryokan is so special & friendly. Would love to come back again for another meal.
- Eli (9/5): Superb - authentic, full breakfast common toilets
- Robert (10/5): Exceptional - The staff was friendly and very helpful. They went out of their way to drop us at the car rental location at the end of our stay. We had a wonderful stay. Nothing
- Pamela (6/5): Pleasant -
- Tiffany (10/5): Hidden treasure! - My friends and I stayed here on very short notice after the shinkansen service was suspended and we had to divert through Nagano. We're very happy we did! The building itself is very tidy and homey! The bathing facilities were very comfortable and clean! The breakfast was beyond delicious! The staff is exceptionally welcoming and very kind (they even gave us a ride to the nearby bus station to drop off our luggage, then dropped us off at Matsumoto Castle)! I could go on and on about the staff and their hospitality. We know VERY little Japanese but their English was amazing and they did a great job explaining the amenities to us! The surrounding area is very quiet and beautiful! They are tucked inconspicuously in a small, suburban neighborhood and mountains surround the area. I cannot recommend this place enough and hope to stay here again in the future! If you are in the area, please do yourself a favor and stay here :)
