Guest Reviews
- Tracey (10/5): Perfect would stay again - It was perfect for what we needed, location was good, clean, good value for money Nothing
- Tong (1/5): -
- wendy (8/5): A pleasant stay, great location and staff great - Staff, friendly, helpful. Food great, and bar selection, location excellent. Please mention they are many stairs to room.
- Leah (10/5): - Really like the staff, hotel and food, always stay here for business/work. Nothing
- Burke (6/5): Tanked Room 7 - Good location, room good size and good condition. My room (room 7) was situated next to a water tank. When water used, pump activated. Both pump and water flow disrupted sleep on Saturday night. Poor considering cost of room. Also shower threatened to overflow due to slow drain, and shower had some mould on tile grout.
- Mandy (10/5): - The staff were lovely - Chief was so friendly, informative & cooked a brilliant breakfast, but all the staff were wonderful
The room was cozy & very comfortable.
Such great value.
- Geraldine (8/5): Great pub/ hotel, polite staff and delicious breakfast. - We stayed here because we went to a wedding at Barton Manor so the location was excellent. The pub was very friendly and the beer garden was spacious and great to sit in.
The bedroom was clean and light and comfy.
Breakfast on Sunday was absolutely delicious and the guy serving was very attentive. N/a
- Corinne (8/5): Perfect location for Osborne House and a very warm welcome! - The location was perfect for my visit to Osborne House. The staff were brilliant, super helpful and efficient. Great choice of menu for evening meals, and the room was comfortable, clean and well decorated. The breakfast choices were limited - no healthy options only cooked breakfasts in various forms. Shower tray didn't drain very well in room 7. Small issues really as the rest of the stay was brilliant.
- Debra (10/5): Overall very good just not a good night sleep - Staff very friendly, very clean, the breakfast was amazing best we have ever had on the island.bonus has a lovely beer garden The bed was very uncomfortable hard and small as hubbys feet were touching the end
- Audrey (10/5): - The staff and customers were so friendly. The food was excellent. Rooms were very comfortable. Brilliant pub quiz!! And I was told to say that Dean makes the best breakfast đ
- ellie (9/5): Great place to stay - Location, food and comfortable rooms Nothing
- Maureen (8/5): -
- Susan (9/5): Great hosts - Good location opposite Osborne House
- graham (10/5): -

- vicky (9/5): Good location, fabulous staff, food and FREE parking. - To all the staff who helped us settle in, and to ensure we had some documents printed off, that was urgently needed during the our stay. The team showed kindness , friendliness and all round nice people who made our stay that extra special. Thanks to Jack & Max. Good Location , staff and breakfast was very well presented and value for money. Had a little bite to eat on the Thursday afternoon after check out , and was very tasty and again well or presented. All went above and beyond and appreciate very much the late check out. The building is amazing and has so much potential. However the room was lacking in some much needed TLC, duvet was wafer thin, and simple things like the bathroom light bulb wasnât working simple fix, and shower doors where broke. A little dirty in general floors walls skirting , no handle on wardrobe, and kettle only filled 1 cup, full of scale and only 1 toilet roll. A little over priced for the room itself.
- ellie (9/5): Super value, comfortable accommodation in excellent location - Love the rooms and the food⊠super casual and really nice staff Rooms a bit cold but otherwise faultless
- william (8/5): -
- Susan (10/5): My friend & I had lovely stay. Was just what we wanted for our visit to Osborne House. - Breakfast was very good but maybe the offer of fruit juice & cereal be good.
Location perfect for Osborne House and bus stops outside pub to get around island. TV in room, screen to small.
- Lucy (8/5): -
- Tony (10/5): -
- Lucy (8/5): - breakfast A desk in the room would of been really helpful
- Sharon (9/5): Would recommend and would definitely stay here again. - Friendly welcome on arrival, everything was explained. Room very clean, breakfast was excellent. Good location with access to nearby facilities if you needed them. Room was cold and no extra blankets in room, however when mentioned to the manager the heating was turned up.
- Mark (10/5): - Great night and great brwakfast
- nigel (9/5): - Good breakfast - clean room with a clean onsuite bathroom- very nice helpfull staff - good selection of pub meals nothing
- Ian (9/5): Fabulous little stay! - Had a really lovely stay at the Prince of Wales Pub and Rooms in East Cowes. Great breakfast, a cosy, quiet and very clean room, and a fantastic evening meal. The manager/owner went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed, which made a real difference. Wi-Fi was excellent too. Would happily stay again and highly recommend. The heating in our room and en suite wasnât working, but it was a busy night and we didnât want to bother the manager. We had plenty of blankets so it wasnât an issue for us.
- G M (8/5): - Willing, helpful and welcoming staff. Good food and comfortable friendly ambience.
Victorian features and historical cameos in rooms.
Comfortable bed and quiet room. Shower was a bit small, limited by shape of old building.
One of us might have been kept awake by streetlight outside window, but luckily had a sleep mask to cope with this. Thicker curtains would have been preferable.
- Astrid (7/5): -
- Louis (7/5): rooms above a pub, simple but fine - everything was clean and well looked after. Food in the evening was simple pub grub, but well done. the breakfast was excellent. staff friendly and helpful. room was small, bathroom especially. breakfast was not until 8am, 7 would be better
- Mandy (8/5): -
- Sophie (6/5): Hotel was in a great location from Osborne House and the dock. - We loved how close it was to Osborne House, we were able to just walk over. The room was extremely cold both nights we stayed, we were put right up the top of the hotel even though we were the only guests. Bed was very uncomfortable, both had sore backs.
- Christine (10/5): -
- Terri (7/5): - The staff Heating and shower door
- Sharon Wallace (10/5): We had a fabulous stay at the Prince of Wales and would love to return soon! - The room was perfect.Very clean and very cosy. Breakfast was excellent and the meal we had in the restaurant was superb too. We loved our stay and the staff were very warm and friendly. Look forward to staying again soon! We could have stayed longer but sadly had to go back to work!
- Ricky (8/5): -
- Angela (10/5): - I'm a solo traveller, so I loved the single bedroom. It is cosy and I enjoyed the cooked breakfast. When the chefs are out taking the orders, it's nice to be able to chat with them but it's usually because it's a quiet time.
Jezz the weekend chef, always helps me down the stairs with my case at the end of the stay, which is usually heavier due to all the things I've found to buy in the Isle of Wight! It's very convenient for Osbourne House, and I stay there for personal reasons as I have a friend who lives close by. The Prince of Wales is close to the bus routes to Ryde, Newport and the ferry back to the mainland. Plus it takes you to Waitrose and the ferry or boat over to Cowes. I don't think it would be suitable for anyone who can't climb the stairs because there is no lift and I don't think there is a room on the ground floor.
When I let myself in to the pub at night, sometimes all the lights have been turned off, so it's a little tricky even if you know where the light switch is!
- Arabella (10/5): - My fiance and I, along with his mum and sister stayed at the Prince of Wales to attend a wedding nearby. The rooms were great, clean, comfortable and plenty of space. My mother and sister in law shared a twin room and they were equally impressed with their room. We had dinner the first night and the meal was really tasty and great value. Breakfast was included and was also delicious. The staff were friendly and very accommodating. All in all it was a lovely stay! Everything was great!
- Arabella (10/5): -
- Kylie (8/5): Overall love staying here and would recommend - All the food they serve is amazing! The mattresses could use an upgrade, we have stayed in 3 separate rooms over the past 3 years and the mattresses are fairly worn down
- Eileen (6/5): It was fine for a night or two, but we wouldnât recommend it for a longer stay. - The bed was very comfortable. The shower was nice and hot and powerful. The location, opposite the entrance to Osborne House, was very convenient, and it was very useful that there was a bus stop right beside the B&B entrance. In our room two light bulbs weren't working when we arrived. The shower cubicle panels had never been fitted properly and the shower runaway needed unblocking. A used towel from a previous guest had been left in the wardrobe. Only a cooked breakfast was available - unlike most B&Bs, there were no cereals, different breads, fruit, yogurts etc.
- Joanne (10/5): A cozy stay next to Osbourne House with quality food and drinks. - Welcoming host. Spotless room. Yorkshire teabags and quality biscuits. Comfortable bed. The room was warm and cozy.
The breakfast was exceptional. We had a delicious evening meal. Steak and steak and mushroom pie. All the staff were friendly and heloful.
This hotel is well located opposite Osbourne House. There is a busstop.outside this hotel so it was very easy to travel around.
Ronnie and Sam are personable and run a good business.
We enjoyed our two day stay. We were very comfortable. I liked everything
- Douglas (8/5): - Breakfast good and choices from evening menu very good. Convenient for visits to Osborne House
- GARY (9/5): -
- Andy (7/5): A good location, that offers a warm friendly welcome in a good location for seeing the Island. - The staff were really friendly, and the Prince of Wales has a good mixture of locals, and guests.
The breakfasts were really good and set us up for the day well.
The location is excellent - particularly for visiting Osborn House!! The rooms were quite small - they were perfectly OK and comfortable for a short stay
- pauline (7/5): -
- Glenn (6/5): -
- Churchill (9/5): -
- Stephen (8/5): -
- Pritchard (8/5): - Very polite and helpful staff. Excellent restaurant.
- sharon (8/5): -
- Jenny (5/5): Excellent for visiting Osbourne House . The staff very really nice and helpful. as you cold just walk to it easily. - Right opposite the entrance to
Osbourne House where we visited . Room very small with a small double bed and the smallest shower we have ever used. Sadly for me the bed did not suit me as it was too soft for my back condition.
- Megan (10/5): Will definitely stay again - Friendly staff, checked in at the bar and even though it was busy the bartender was so friendly and showed us straight to the room with no wait. Comfy and well decorated room. Breakfast was great (they can do vegan if you ask and had 0 fuss).
- Claudia (10/5): - A long walk uphill, need to state bus route with bus number.
- Emma (10/5): -
- Kevin (9/5): We enjoyed our stay. - Good hot breakfast. Could have some cereal / fruit option for breakfast.
- Amy (10/5): - Spent nine days here while visiting family on the island. The staff are amazing, all super friendly and helpful. Rooms are clean and have everything you need. Bus stop is right out the front door to get you to Newport or Ryde. Would stay here again in a heartbeat
- Jennie (10/5): - It was great ! Have already booked for next year
- Dorothy (9/5): All fine. Thank you. - The room was comfortable with a good en-suite shower. Breakfast was also good and huge. The man-behind-the-bar sorted out a payment error with Booking .com
- tim (8/5): Excellent access from the ferry, good clean rooms and great staff. Wonderful British pub food - The staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The food was excellent. I would describe the Prince of Wales as a traditional British pub with ensuite accomodation. It was nice to receive a decent traditional English breakfast included in the cost with decent portions, fine ingredients and cooked to order. No Richmond sausages here ! It was also nice to have our little dog welcomed, none of this 'dog friendly room' business like some of the competition. If you are visiting Osborne House the pub is directly opposite the entrance. Parking good too. The room was a little on the cramped side. Bed very comfortable but shower a bit on the small side for a large lump of a human like myself. But exceptionally clean. We were unfortunate in the fire alarm going off at 2.15am and because no staff were onsite it was almost an hour before it was turned off. Staff were extremely apologetic and promised drinks/meals as a gesture but as it was our last night there wasnt any chance to enjoy those. However I wouldnt hesitate in going back.
- ellie (8/5): -
- Russ (8/5): A night ashore for Sailing Spook Skipper - Lovely room, very clean and tidy. Felt very comfortable and well kept.
Had everything you would expect in the room didn't need to ask for anything.
Staff were all very friendly. Without hesitation I will stay again. I am a tall man and the bed had a footboard meaning I couldn't stretch out quite as much as I would have liked. This is a bit harsh as many hotel beds are similar so no big issue.
- Laura (5/5): - Staff were extremely pleasant and helpful, room was clean, cooked breakfast tasty.
It is right outside Osbourne House and has bus stop outside and opposite, but personally if you are walking the Coastal Path then I would suggest you finish at East Cowes ferry, cross and stay in Cowes. The location - the room we had was right on a main road and was incredibly noisy - ear plugs didn't help!
- Carol (10/5): - It was a great location and a nice relaxing stay. Staff were friendly and helpful It would be nice to have more choice at breakfast. Cereal and yoghurt maybe? Although I did get toast when I asked for it from the great chef đ
- Susan (7/5): - We loved the breakfast and the rooms were very clean. Drinking water was always given at the bar when we needed it. Location was good too. The hotel side of the establishment was a bit of an after thought. I asked for my room to be made up and put a sign on at the start of the day. Came back and nothing had been done. I asked one of the girls that worked there if I could have this done. Even if it was just toilet rolls and new towels. When I got back later they were just on the floor outside my room. I wasn't happy that the towels I was using on my face had been on the floor.
Breakfast was great especially the first day. The second day was okay but the hospitality was a bit scarce.
- Wolfgang (6/5): Eine Nacht ist ok - Gute Lage zum Osbourne house und den FĂ€hren Zimmer hat nach Rauch gerochen
- Ian (9/5): -
- Verified traveler (6/5): Nice location. Great staff but needs tlc - Rooms good size but disappointed about light bulbs being out, bin not emptied and general room wasn't cleaned. Food is really good and staff very friendly.
- Andrea (10/5): Comfortable, welcoming - Easily accessible by bus. Nothing
- Charles (9/5): Wonderful stay for us. Highly recommended - Comfortable room, great helpful staff, excellent food, brilliant location for Osborne House. Right on 2 frequent bus routes from ferry. Ideal stay.
- Anne (7/5): -
- Terry (10/5): - Staff were fantastic đ
- Jodie (10/5): Lovely hotel and bar, would definitely stay here again - Lovely clean and comfortable room. Friendly staff. Would definitely stay here again.
- Stephen (2/5): - The room was small. The traffic noise was constant. The cleanliness was poor. I tripped using the stairs as there are a number of dark. unlit areas on the staircase.
- Monica (9/5): Very good and easy access to Cowes. - Staff very friendly. Breakfast really good and good location for buses. If someone else has a shower the same time as you the water coming out of the shower gets weak
- J R (10/5): Excellent stay as always! - Excellent stay as always, lovely room in the king size bedroom, really clean and well presented. Our doggies were made to feel so welcome too! Very friendly staff and we enjoyed both our breakfasts and evening meal.
Weâll definitely stay again on our next visit to the IOW, thank you!
- Steve (10/5): Great stay met all my requirements - Very clen and very friendly staff. Room was large and well furnished. Breakfast was excellent. Nothing
- Sarah (10/5): The stay was made extra special by the attention and interest of the staff. - We were welcomed so warmly by the breakfast chef. We arrived early as we had a wedding to attend and the staff went above and beyond to enable us to have our room available to us early so we could get ready. The bedroom was very clean and had everything you needed, the bed was comfortable and the room was well presented. The bar staff in the evening were friendly and efficient and in the morning the staff were again very friendly and nothing was too much bother. Overall the experience was great and we decided before we had even spent the night that we would be back.
- Calvin (7/5): Goo service and friendly staff. - Good location to my work location. All staff really friendly and helpful, especially Lee. Pool table was a bonus. Pillows could be better in the room and decoration is a bit tired.
- Adderley (6/5): - The breakfast was excellent. One gentleman on duty was very helpful and pleasant. Expected the room to be en-suite. Bathroom was across the corridor, not even a sink in the room, or any access to water in the room.
- Stephen (10/5): - The owners have clearly made a great effort to make sure this old building gives you a welcoming environment. The room was spacious and clean, the Wi-Fi excellent and secure and the room servicing great. The whole environment was well looked after. If you thought that was good? - I canât speak highly enough of the staff; reception, bar, breakfast & dinner - all different people but all gave excellent service. I have no problem in returning next time we are on the Island.
- Alex (10/5): - Pretty room, very clean, delicious breakfast, friendly staff, The bathroom window didn't open
- Paul (9/5): -
- Richard (8/5): - Excellent pub hotel, great service and food
- Stephen (8/5): - The Price if Wakes is conveniently located on the main road (A3921) between East Cowes and Whippingham, Isle of Wight. The inn is directly across from the main entrance to Osborne House estates. There are comfortable rooms, some with ensuite facilities, and a pub/restaurant/breakfast room on the ground floor. Free parking is available on-site, and it is approximately 1/2 -mile walk to Osborne House. The breakfasts were fresh, hot, and plentiful...cooked by Dean. Wifi and television are included in your stay.
- Jacquie (6/5): - The room was adequate. The shower was extremely small, it proved difficult to shower without hitting your arms on something. The bed was a cast iron bedstead with creaky springs, and the mattress was very uncomfortable, I did not sleep well. The bin in the shower room had not been emptied from the previous occupant. This was my husband and I's honeymoon night and I booked for bed and breakfast, however, we were greeted at the breakfast table with a "payment required" notice. This then entailed calling the manager who said that my invoice showed I had paid for room only. I then had to spend time scrolling through my phone to find MY invoice from Expedia to prove that I HAD paid for bed and breakfast. We had asked for coffee, and although we had seen a coffee machine, the coffee served was instant, which neither of us like. The manager blamed the invoice error on "the app" but it put a real dampener on our stay and I would suggest you take a look at your "app". Overall, we were not that impressed, and not inclined to stay there again.
- Wendy (10/5): Great value for money and exceptional staff. - Great value for money.
Staff were exceptional. Bit of a walk from the ferry but a bus stops right outside - recommend getting the bus.
Rooms were clean and comfortable and there was also of history about the place.
Brekky was great. Fresh cooked to order.
Bar and pub downstairs did amazing evening meals.
Would definately return. Had a great stay.
- Kimberley (6/5): The room was incredibly hot but there was a fan in there and they have left the window open, it was comfortable enough w - Great location, comfy bed Breakfast wasnât served until 8 and the bathroom was separate from the bedroom
- Chris (10/5): Ideal location for Osborne house, near to ferry terminal too - Great Guesthouse, located directly opposite Osborne House. The beer garden is great for drinks, and I had an evening meal and breakfast which were both excellent. The rooms were presented lovely, and each tell their own story. I would highly recommend staying here
- Susan (10/5): The Stamps mini breakđđ - We loved the location as we were visiting Osbourne House.. Perfect for us For us there wasn't anything to dislike,
And will most certainly revisitđđ
- Jean (10/5): Little gem - Little gem of a bar, restaurant and hotel. Very clean, lovely room very quaint, fabulous food and very friendly/helpful staff. Lovely beer garden and ideally situated for a visit to Osbourne house just literally over the road. Bus stop directly outside of the hotel so good for people without cars.
- Athena Mahree (8/5): -
- RITA ANN (8/5): Very nice good breakfast ,friendly staff - Location very historic Noise of the bathroom flush on toilet . But nothing too bad .
- Alfred (8/5): Schöner Aufenthalt in fĂŒr uns perfekter Lage - Super nettes Personal.
FĂŒr uns perfekte Lage Nichts
- Mark (8/5): -
- Marie (10/5): Will highly recommend. - Friendliest staff ever. The decor was perfect. Loved the dining room and beer garden. The bedroom was nicely outfitted. Great food for dinner and included breakfast. We were on foot. The bus stop out front was super handy. Right across the street from Osborne House. The only negative was the room didnât have AC. The open window and provided fan cooled us off fine.
- Linda (10/5): Great stay. Fab location - Great food too
- Phil (8/5): -
- Christine (6/5): Dissapointing stay, i made an error with the booking - Map location was brilliant - opposite Osbourne House Estate entrance with easy access to key local Places of historical interest. Good food and very clean and inviting
Genuinely caring and attentive staff Being a charming old pub it was popular and so frequented by a friendly but rowdy crowd till late
We sadly were positioned above the rear garden and it was hot so very noisy. Our room was a bit on the small side which was understandable -
I was sorry I didnât check it more thoroughly on booking com. It was a double bed , too small for my partner so I should have asked to book a King/bigger room
Two light bulbs were out in the room which I felt let them down and there was no full length mirror for changing, not good for getting ready to go to a wedding as we were
I should mention the tv was also a small screen and difficult to watch although good they provided one
Lastly, there was basic tea/ coffee facilities but no drinking water or mini fridge which would have been a nice touch in the hotter weather
- john (7/5): Pleasant short break - Very friendly staff good food Nothing
- Jasmine (8/5): - Great location, lovely pub.. pet friendly and the food was amazing.. I particularly liked the young man who was serving breakfast and I wish him all the success in his new role at the hotel.
