• christopher (4/5): - I know they do state rooms are over the bar can be noisy but the music/band was so loud you actually could sing along. This continued to 11:30 ish.There was a lot of banging and crashing that continued till at least 1 am that was unbearable! No breakfast to be had, restaurant doesn’t serve breakfast, for people staying with a 2 night minimum that is not cool. Doubt I’ll stay there again. There is some better choices on the island like Taku resort.

The dining room only opens for the full menu at 5 and I WOULD RECOMMED RESERVATIONS..we stood waiting for info when it opened at noon, no one helped us, we came back at 5 and there were signs saying no more space for diners, although the restaurant cooked the food for the pub you can not get all off the menu in the pub The rooms do not have any amenities that most do, no tv, radio or clock or even a hair dryer...we were in the only room with two beds, mine was hard and noisy...

• KAT (6/5): - I just liked the joint.. it's not high end in a way an "okay overall stay". The staff are friendly, interesting people, laid back in general. The surroundings are lovely and it's pet friendly. Basically you'll be staying in the old jewel of Quadra Island where most tourists and locals alike seem very fond of it, regardless of age. Having said that you are part of a hospitality community as well as a guest. Not sure if that makes sense. If in you ever spent time working seasonally in a tourism and locally loved haunt in Banff or Canmore you will nostalgically take it in stride. Keep in mind sometimes the pub hosts a live band. You're in a harbour so you will hear it anyhow but ask about your room's location if you like quiet earlier at night. Clarify with hotel if there are recommended quiet times posted and observed. I don't recall noticing music late into the night from my room. I was not located above the pub side of the hotel. Basically kinda like the Sylvia in Vancouver. Bed was okay for comfort but I like a firm mattress. Rooms are not roomy. No coffee./tea or kettle in your room but an area in hallway set up for coffee/tea that may or may not be ready before 7:30 AM. Just stay on island time.
• Connie Miller (8/5): - Great location; very friendly folks working in pub, at the front desk & in the restaurant; very good meal in the restaurant; good chowder in the pub; building was nice & quiet after 11pm; bed was very comfy & bedding was good quality.
• Jean-François (4/5): - This place was not worth the price I paid. $399 per night was not ok for what we got. This place is old and was never renovated and there was a strong foul smell in the entire place. Some windows also didn’t have screens making it impossible to leave the windows open without bugs flying in.

• Rob (10/5): Delighted and Planning to go Back Soon - We stayed in one of the three cabins behind the inn. Our cabin was larger than expected, and had a full kitchen with dishes, cutlery, coffee maker...all the important stuff. Pub downstairs was cool, and the crazy view from the kitchen tanle made my morning coffee worthwhile. Loved it there and will be rebooking.
• Breanna (10/5): - We stayed at Heriot Bay Inn for our 10-year wedding anniversary and it was absolutely amazing from start to finish. First off, the staff were incredible — genuinely friendly, welcoming, and so helpful throughout our stay. The rooms were cute and quaint, with the perfect cozy charm that made it easy to relax and unwind. The inn itself feels like a beautiful heritage building, full of character and history, adding a special touch to the whole experience. And the view of the Bay? Just stunning. Watching the sunrise and sunset here will quite literally take your breath away. We also loved the on-site pub — the food was incredible, fresh, and full of flavor. And with the Cortes Ferry just down the street, it was easy to take a spontaneous little day trip to explore even more of this beautiful area. This place made our anniversary feel truly special. We’re so happy we chose to stay here, and we’ll definitely be back. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a magical getaway!

• Shirley (8/5): - I liked our stay with you very much with one glaring exception. On July 18th there was a very loud party going on outside with very loud music and it kept going until after midnight. No sleep was possible during this time. No staff members were around to control the noise. I would like to suggest that you implement the following changes: 1. Post notices that there should be no parties or noise inside or outside after say 10:00 PM. 2. Have a staff member onsite all night to handle parties / noise concerns. OR at least post a phone number that can be called to ask for help. When we told the staff member at checkout on Friday morning, she was so sorry and gave us a free night to compensate for the inconvenience. This was a lovely gesture and good PR on her part but the problem should never have been allowed. I will return to your lovely Inn as I loved it all but for the noise on Thursday night. I realize that people want to have fun but peace and tranquility are also important for all your guests not at the party. Alastair Campbell
• Angela (4/5): - Amazing oceanfront property and unique old hotel that brings you back in time. There is also a lovely gift shop in the lobby. Started off in a standard room. Very simple with a double bed and a single bed with in suite bathroom. Unfortunately nothing more. No coffee maker, no blow dryer (had to get one from front desk), and directly above the pub so when the live music started playing Friday night, there was no sleeping. Walls and windows were vibrating and the pounding music would have been much better if I didn’t have a headache and wanted to be in the pub. That said, we were fortunate enough to be offered another quieter room due to a cancellation, so customer service was top notch. We were also upgraded and did not have to pay extra. Sadly due to staffing issues, the hotel restaurant doesn’t open until 4pm so no place to get coffee or breakfast. Would have loved to have seen a coffee urn in the lobby considering the proximity and availability of coffee shops on the island. The heritage site can be appreciated for what it is and it is understandable that things are what they are, but slightly inconvenient. Price reflects what you get. Stay started out a bit rough especially without air conditioning and very loud room, but was turned around with the customer service. We ended up in a room with an outdoor patio where fresh air flowed through the door all night and kept us cooler.

• Shannon (4/5): - Parts of unit not cleaned. Washroom and kitchen in particular. Area out front has tripping hazard. Fell and seriously sprained my ankle and then saw a small girl trip while I was laying on the ground. Told the staff that the depression need to be identified, but when we returned nothing was done. No yellow paint or even a pylon. Staff didn’t ask if I was alright. Bloody bruised left leg, sprained right ankle. Not impressed and won’t go back.

We enjoyed a quiet weekend but because we were there much of the time the above items would have been very handy in the cabin.

• Elizabeth (10/5): - We had booked only one night but would have liked to stay for longer but we had to get home. We got a free upgrade to one of the cabins which was lovely. Juanita, the manager we dealt with, bent over backwards to be accommodating and hospitable. She made our stay special. We enjoyed the free presentation in The Pub that night of Shawn, the Rock Hound, which was very interesting and we learned something new. We will definitely go back!
• jihee (8/5): - decent ocean view with nice wood cabin with good amenities. However, due to bad weather, WiFi service and TV were initially working poorly. Otherwise, staffs were friendly and nice.

• John (8/5): - What a unique and interesting stay. This beautiful little inn has its charms, but be clear, it should be compared to a Hostel. We loved it as it is quirky, funky, and altogether silly. We loved the records around the building and the food and the vibe were great. We laughed at how silly it was that the toilet didn't flush and there was really no hot water. Good news is you have your own washroom which sometimes you wouldn't in a hostel. I highly suggest you bring your cooler and ice as there is no fridge, and doubly be sure to bring your coffee machine as there's none in the room and none in the building. No breakfast either BUT THATS OK. The price is good, we needed to crash, we love the island, and have new stories to tell about the HBI on Quadra island.. Also if you are an early riser ask for room not above the bar...
• Hugh (10/5): - This is a hundred year old hotel, so it is quaint and without some conveniences which you would have in modern hotels and motels, but it is fun and you have everything you need in a stunning waterfront environment. Presently, the dining room, which we have previously found to be excellent, is running only on weekends because of problems caused by pandemic difficulties, but the pub is open and food resources are available at the little mall just across the road.

• John D (6/5): Unique and historical - The rooms are ridiculously small. Except there is one suite that is nice. 125 year old building in surprisingly good condition. We didn't stay because the rooms were so very small; they must have been build for single beds. The attached pub was fun and had good food. We actually didn't stay in the Inn as the room was not very nice, just too basic and uncomfortable. But, the staff was kind enough to find us a different place to stay.

• gail (6/5): - The staff were very friendly. The rooms are very small, no air in the room so very hot to sleep in. There was no coffee service in the morning, the food and drinks were over priced. The place was clean , the grounds and scenery were lovely.
• Tina (6/5): - Check in was frustrating as there was a new employee left on their own way too early, struggling to learn the job on the fly. The pub food was very slow to arrive after ordering, and the wait staff seemed to lack prioritization skills; we sat at a table for 20 minutes before having someone come and offer menus, deciding instead to clean an empty table beside us while stating they would be with us shortly (no other dining guests were waiting for the table). The food was expensive for the quality and flavour. The small amount of staff seemed to be multi tasking between the pub, dining room and Inn and were pleasant and friendly. The room accommodation was small and adequate for a short term affordable stay. Be sure to request a room away from the pub if you don’t want to hear the weekend band play until late. There is no Bagged Ice available to buy onsite, and no coffee in the rooms or onsite in the morning so pack your own (two small hospitality expectations most travellers expect). Pretty waterfront setting.

HOWEVER, that all said - we knew this up front and the charm of the hotel and the friendly staff and great meals - not to mention spectacular location and views made it all worth while.

• Kevin&Antonia (10/5): - We have to say that the Inn at Herriot Bay was a real surprise. The owners who staff this place are just terrific. They go the extra mile. Cathy at reception was the perfect host. The Inn itself is full of atmosphere, reminiscent of the James Bay Inn in Victoria. The grounds and setting are truly fantastic! The main thing to know is that you will require earplugs. As with all century plus country Inns, the walls are a little thin. A small price to pay indeed.
• Reilly Sean (10/5): Quadra Island Stopver - Lovely charming little hotel on the water. Fantastic restaurant and a homey historical pub downstairs. The rooms aren’t huge, this really is a historical hotel. But the plumbing works and the rooms have been upgraded fairly recently. Whatever it lacks in modern amenities it makes up for it with the buildings charm and friendly service.
• Dave (4/5): Room at the inn - Hotel is very dated. Rooms very smalll. No TV, no coffee pot, no phone, no AC. Bathroom clean bout mould on silicone around bathtub.Advertised free wi-fi but it was very spotty at best. Rooms not very soundproof. Restaurant expensive.
• C (6/5): - The inn is over 100 years old so don’t expect much - room is small, shower is hot and cold but never a constant temperature, can’t really open and close the window, Wi-Fi is non-existent unless you’re in the lobby. There’s a restaurant and a pub downstairs and campground nearby so bring earplugs. On the plus side the bed is comfortable and the inn is right in front of a beach and marina. Staff are friendly and helpful. Note: there’s no cell service in the area.
• Discontented (2/5): - The pictures of the room I was given looked better than reality. I walked into an airless room, with no air conditioner and a deck that was filthy. It had cigarette butts on it and it was as if the deck had become a dump zone for lawn furniture. I walked on the deck, looking at flowers that were dying from neglect, and ended up with slivers in my foot. The main sundeck was filthy, littered with old mouldy cigarette butts and empty cans from previous users. The bathroom was a scary sight when I saw the tthe tub surround was peeling, there was mould in the corners and the shower curtain bar was rusty. There were no windows in the bedroom, but doors that led to the deck. So in order to get it to sort of cool off as it was hot the door needed to be open. I was covered in bug bites. The wifi did not work. So basically you had a room with a bed, that had winter weight bedding, no carpets and no radio. The door to the room had been broken and was pieced together with two by fours. I would not ever stay h ere again and am disappointed that I was charged a 152 a night for such poor accommodations.
• Boleslaw (6/5): - Beautiful Island.Easy to get on Nice Cortez Island and around. It is hard to make five star hotel out of older hotel. Generally it was nice. Food quite tasty.

• Verified traveler (2/5): - The room we were given was on top of the pub—at no point was it mentioned that there would be live music playing until 1:00 am. It sounded as though the band was in our room. We would not have stayed here if we knew that this would be the case. The room was dirty and full of bugs. At one point, we counted six spiders in the room. There was also a large swarm of flies right outside our door. The showers go from hot to cold based on other visitors using the toilets in other rooms. Overall, I would not recommend staying here.
• Verified traveler (4/5): - We were quite disappointed to arrive with two tired babies and find out we were in one of the rooms above the pub - which plays very loud music until at least 1 AM. The noise was terrible and the hotel staff don't seem concerned at all about guest comfort etc. - from what we've heard from other guests the noise is pretty bad in any of the rooms in the main building, even the ones not directly over the pub. The restaurant here is not terrible, but it's not great either, and the staff/service leaves a lot to be desired. For pretty much the same price you can stay at Whiskey Point which has recently all been renovated and is a world different in terms of amenities and quality of the room. Also, there is no cell reception on this side of the island and the wifi at the hotel is very spotty and can't be relied on for web messengers like Facebook etc.
