- KimThanh (10/5): - My husband and I were very blessed to be able to stay here for 2 nights. We loved staying here, especially the second day. Wish we were able to stay here another night to enjoy lounging around more since we spent the second day seeing the Seiganto-ji Temple Sanjuno-to 3-Storied Pagoda and that surrounding area. As for the review of this Ryokan, we appreciate how this place has their own luggage service when you're at the dock, which we found to be helpful. Since we stayed for 2 nights, the meals were different on the second day, which we like the dinner on the second day more than the first. We find it a bit surprising as we'd think the first day dinner should be more of a show-stopper. However, it wasn't the case for us, but the dinner on the second night made us consider coming back here in the future. Besides that, we love the view from our room because it's gorgeous watching the sunrise. We also really like the service, especially the young female who assisted us explaining the meal in English on the second night for dinner and our breakfast on the last day. She was very sweet and remembered us. She also suggested to take pictures for us. Unfortunately, we didn't catch her name.
- xk140fhc (8/5): Good, but with reservations - Overall, a good experience, though not a truly Japanese one. The hotel is the sole presence on the island. Make sure to take the walk to the top of the island as the views are worth the effort. The staff are great, the food too. Parking in town is free and convenient, the staff taking bags to the nearby dock for the 5 minute trip to the hotel. We stayed in a room with an outside bath (not geo-thermal water), which are in the new building near the dock. These rooms are spacious, well equipped and well finished. The majority of rooms (perhaps 40?) are in the main building on the other side of the island. No idea how these compare. The onsen and rotenburo are supplied with geo-thermal water. The hotel seemed full during our visit in March. The majority of guests, perhaps 75%, appeared to not be Japanese. The whole onsen/kaiseki experience is uniquely Japanese, however their absence makes the hotel feel a bit like a theme park. A fairly pricey place to stay, but (probably) worth it. We'd like to return.

In the mornings they also have Maguro sale and you can buy some products that aren't offered at the gift shop. There is at least one staff to attend to your needs to ensure that you have a pleasant stay.

Totally refurbished 4 years ago when they reorientated the hotel to the other side of the island which now connects to the main part via a tunnel - so any pics you may have of the facade are completely outdated and the hotel is beautifully interior designed with super spacious communal areas. The staff were delightful, the rooms great with wonderful views out to sea, the restaurant was a culinary feast and the spa spacious and great with outdoor area. Free beer, ice cream, saki all on tap - what’s not to like! Don’t miss this place! We checked in after a 5 day trek on the kumano kodo - it felt like paradise!

- Tourist728155 (2/5): Horrible customer’s service and lack of consideration - I'm extremely disappointed with the hotel's handling of our reservation. We were informed about the building construction and the cancellation of our room just 4 days before our scheduled stay, despite booking months in advance and already paying. It's perplexing that they didn't plan the construction work in advance, leaving us with such short notice. This lack of foresight and consideration for guests raises serious concerns about their commitment to customer satisfaction. It's evident that Nakanoshima is aware of their lack of competition in the area, yet their disregard for guest experience is evident. We were eagerly anticipating our stay, but our experience has left us unable to recommend this hotel to others.

Every moment of our stay here was just perfect!! - BAM1113 (10/5): Exceeded expectations! - My husband and I spent two nights at Nakanoshima and were exceedingly pleased with the experience. It's about a 4 hour ride on a limited express train from Nagoya to Kii-Katsuura, but it's a scenic and pleasant trip. The day we arrived, the first boat to the island wasn't scheduled until 1:30 pm, so a driver met us at the station to collect our luggage (pre-arranged in advance), and since it was raining quite heavily, he then drove us to a nearby pier with a food court and pointed out where to find the boat. We enjoyed terrific sushi at a small counter and then hopped the boat to the island where the ryokan is located. The rain had stopped by then and the brief boat ride was a serene experience. The public spaces are beautiful and they leave out complimentary treats for guests to enjoy, like ice cream pops. We booked a standard room with a sea view and were astounded by the gorgeous view of the bay. The room was spacious and comfortable with plenty of storage, a sitting area with a view and a large bathroom with a separate toilet stall and a shower room with a small tub (not an onsen). Everyone we met was very attentive, kind and helpful. The food at breakfast and dinner was delicious and beautifully presented. We booked a private onsen twice for a reasonable fee. It includes both indoor and outdoor onsens with sea views and a well-equipped changing area. The first evening we went after dinner and watched a spectacular lightning display from the outdoor tub. We booked the boat and a taxi the following morning to visit Nachi Falls and the forest and temples along the Daimonzaka walking trail (a small section of the Kumano Kodo trail). Nakanoshima is a terrific base from which to explore this very scenic area of Japan and a lovely destination on its own if you want to relax and enjoy the hot springs and amenities.

- Mobile42793764623 (10/5): Perfect stay in Katsuura - Excellent onsen ryokan. A few minutes walk from Kii Katsuura station to the pier, the reception staff are very friendly and helpful. Location of the ryokan is good, on a silent island. The walkway on the rooftop is also stunning. It takes around 30 minutes to complete a round trip. The view at the observatory is great. The room is clean and comfortable, onsen is large with wonderful seaview. Dinner and breakfast are good too.

- KEI (4/5): 立地、料理は素晴らしいですが・・・ - 家内と熊野三山詣での折に利用しました。HPも見て、静かな雰囲気と丁寧な料理を期待して選びました。立地、料理、温泉は素晴らしいと思います。 しかし、利用した当日はお世辞にも品があるとは言えない団体客がおり、食事中も大きな声で騒がしく私達2人の会話も聞こえません。何か安い居酒屋チェーン店で食事をしている感じでした。頭に風呂で使ったタオルを乗せ、鉢巻きにしたまま大きな声と笑い声で食事をされていましたので、料理の味も覚えていない位です。せめて、団体客を別会場、別時間にするなどの対応をして欲しいですね。食後、静かなラウンジで過ごしていても、また団体客がやってきて騒がしくなり、こちらは退散。外国人観光客も顔を歪めていましたね。 たまたま運が悪い日に当たったのかも知れませんが、団体客のマネジメントを考えて頂きたいと思います。
