Cooked breakfast was excellent, fish and chips at dinner was first class. Early breakfast for us was accommodated. Parking was easy. Bar area could do with a freshen up.

- Kristina (7/5): Great location but shame about the tired appearance of the hotel interior - The hotel is in a great location and the staff were super friendly and helpful. The cooked breakfasts were very nice and it has onsite free parking which is a bonus. Although this is a lovely old building it is in need of a refurb and some repairs. Our room (24) felt a bit cold and damp and wallpaper was peeling off in places with some black mould above the shower in the bathroom. The bedroom curtains also didn’t meet in the middle but thankfully there was a blind as well. We struggled to get the tv to work but overall had a fairly comfortable stay

- Zoe (7/5): - I liked the price, and the central location staff were friendly and welcoming. The hotel was very beautiful in its day and was kept clean breakfast included was perfect for a night out in Tain
- Allan (8/5): If you are not bothered about decor you will be well looked after and comfortable during your stay - Pleasant and attentive staff, the location met my requirements. Although a limited menu the food for dinner & breakfast was well prepared/cooked and presented. The portion size was amazing, you will not go away hungry & the food was amazing value for money. Having free carparking was also a benefit if travelling by car and the hotel looks down the Main Street with a short walk to shops, supermarket. Bus stops and train station all within a short walk of the hotel. The free WiFi signal was excellent. The decor is dated, although functional. The WiFi code is hand written and stuck to the main reception counter top. I have compromised sight and I found it difficult to find and read, an A4 printed wall mounted WiFi sign at reception would be better with smaller printed WiFi signs printed and displayed close to the TV’s in each room. It would save the staff constantly being asked for this information.
- grahame (8/5): Overall an enjoyable stay - Nice central location and impressive traditional building, lots of style. Room was spacious and comfortable. Very nice breakfast too My room carpet was rather stained and old (it may have just needed a good clean). For the most part I couldn’t locate a plug for sink (I had arrived late in the evening so didn’t seek assistance) resulting in it being tricky to freshen up after my travels. In the cold light of day I learned that a plug was present - oddly it formed part of the inset to the top of a tap 🤔

- Kevin McFarlane (10/5): Could not ask for better - I really enjoyed my stay at the Royal Hotel. The manager was outstanding; he even upgraded the rooms for both me and my friends. I slept extremely well as the hotel was very quiet and clean. Its central location was perfect, and the breakfast was excellent with a huge variety of choices. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone—it is extremely good value for money. Nothing.
- Munro (8/5): Base whilst visit various family members around the area. - Very helpful and friendly staff. The food was very good. We had to leave before breakfast was served on the Sunday but we were given two ample and nice lunch boxes instead. Situated in the centre of Tain with ample parking behind the hotel. Stayed here 20 years ago and will probably use it on our next visit. The room menu showed a large selection but due to it being quiet empty, the actual menu was much reduced. The room needed some tlc as there was some mould high up on the wall above the bath/shower. Also, one piece of wallpaper had come loose at a corner by the ceiling and two pieces of ceiling paper had come loose on a portion of the ceiling

Better service than I have in 5 star hotels. It was also decorated very nicely for Christmas - it looked dreamy. The wifi in my particular room as essentially unusable. The building is gorgeous, but could use a little remodeling.

- louise (10/5): - I arrived late in the evening so I missed the dinner service, the menu looked appealing for all tastes. I only encountered the night staff as I had an early check out. The person was so welcoming as though I was family, extremely attentive. The building on the inside could be seen as dated and needing a spruce, However I think it adds to the charm. My room was great. Everything you would expect for a comfy night sleep. I am definitely going back if I visit Tain again and hopefully meet the proprietor!

From the night staff through to the cleaners everyone was so friendly. The room was immaculate. It smelt lovely. The tea tray plentiful. I never had breakfast but the smell was divine and so tempting. I liked they allowed plenty of time so it was suitable for workers and holiday makers. The restaurant was really nice The carpet was stained although clean. I am basically clutching at straws as with such friendly staff and so well proportioned room it is hard to find any real faults

Could not raise anyone on reception at 9 pm and saw a handwritten note which said: Bed bugs found in Room 16 (which was opposite the corridor to our room) I accidentally entered a staff bedroom next door to ours and was horrified. It looked like it had been turned over by burglars. Dirty clothes piled high and unmade bed, simply squalid.

- Richard (10/5): My forth stay over the last three year,cannot fault it. Hospitality, an example to others - The traditional Highland hotel atmosphere has been tastefully retained. The location is perfect, a short walk from the Railway Station, local golf course, and lovey shore walks. Nothing not to like. Not by any means five star, but very comfortable, with spotlessly clean linen and towels and very comfy beds. And if, like me, you enjoy a full Scottish breakfast, you will be very impressed with the wonderful plateful provided by the Royal, all included with their very modest room rates.

We stayed in room 24, the curtains didn’t cover the full width of the window, wallpaper was hanging off the wall, the electric radiator in the bathroom had insulation tape wrapped around the connection, tape was along the top of the bath side panel, the tv is positioned at 90 degrees to the bed which is not ideal for viewing, one bedside light kept flickering.
