Guest Reviews
- Fraser (8/5): - Beautiful location, incredibly friendly and helpful staff and my room was beautiful as was the spa area
- eleanorbentley (10/5): I hope to return! - A beautiful location, along with superb hospitality!
Each area of hotel and grounds are beautiful, along with a nice, well equipped, spa. A big thanks to Nicola, Patricia, Faith, Lauren in the Spa, the lovely restaurant team, and everyone else behind the scenes. A great stay.
- lyndae752 (10/5): Absolutely Perfect - From the moment I arrived until it was time to say goodbye , I had the most wonderful time at the Ockenden Manor. The hotel was charming set in beautiful grounds and the staff made sure you had a warm welcome and looked after you. The bedroom was large with good quality facilities and I slept very well. The food was plentiful and tasty. The hotel is on a great location to explore the area. It was not cheap to stay here but you certainly got what you paid for.
- donnahZ6133RJ (10/5): A Perfect relaxing spa retreat in tranquil and charming setting . - A quiet country tranquil village
vibe with independent café 's , boutiques and more . Very easy going atmosphere and friendly personable staff throughout . Spa suites spacious and light with private outside terrace. The main manor house cosy and charming . Very friendly, personable staff .

- 688samh (10/5): Exceeded our expectations - We recently stayed at Ockenden Manor Hotel & Spa to celebrate my husband’s 50th birthday, and the entire experience was absolutely fantastic from start to finish.
From the moment we arrived, the team went above and beyond. Without us even requesting it, they had upgraded us to the Duplex Suite after noting that it was a special birthday celebration, which was such an incredibly thoughtful gesture and immediately made the stay feel extra special.
The hotel itself was beautiful — full of character, spotless throughout, and with a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere. The spa was spectacular and genuinely one of the best parts of the stay. The facilities were amazing, and it felt luxurious without being pretentious.
Dinner was another highlight. At dessert, the staff surprised my husband with a celebratory birthday plate, which was such a lovely touch and really summed up the level of care and attention we experienced throughout our stay.
While this was definitely a special occasion treat for us and not something we could regularly afford, we enjoyed it so much that we would absolutely return in the future, even if staying in one of the more modest rooms, simply to experience the hotel and spa again.
Thank you to the entire team for making Jake’s 50th birthday so memorable.
- ioca2026 (10/5): Wonderful restorative time in gorgeous hotel and spa - Beautifully decorated and comfortable accommodation showing great attention to detail, located in a beautiful English village on a secluded site with gorgeous views, and delightful garden and grounds but a stone throw from the village high street. The food was delicious - the cooked manor breakfasts reminded me of childhood breakfasts with sausages and bacon that tasted as they should. food. Apart from the beautiful historic manor house and grounds, there is a beautifully designed modern spa wing with some rooms, large swimming pool, hot tub, immersion pods and all the spa treatments that you would expect. The in house toiletries and spa ointments and oils were effective and smelled wonderful. Warm, friendly and attentive staff sealed the deal. Well worth treating yourself or a loved one to

- ske (6/5): Lovely spa. Hotel - Could be better. - We booked an overnight dinner bed and breakfast stay for my birthday. We stayed Thursday to Friday. Positives:
Small and friendly hotel
Spa - good facilities and quiet
Dinner - food was excellent
Russell and 2 women serving in bar and restaurant in evening were excellent, friendly and attentive
Complimentary bubbles on arrival were a nice touch.
Not so good:
Shower in our room (Alice) impossible to use. Stood for ages adjusting taps a tiny bit and could only get very hot or cold water. I gave up. Luckily, I had showered in spa - excellent and powerful.
Breakfast - I ordered poached eggs and ate one of the 2 - one was overcooked and hard. Could offer more fresh fruit such as berries for yoghurt/cereal.
Price - Cost nearly £550 for 1 night and for that premium price I would expect a premium experience including a working shower.
If I returned, I would opt for a spa day.

- stephenbM8343PG (10/5): Anniversary treat - We stayed here for one night to celebrate our anniversary. The staff, room, ambience and food were all incredible. It felt very special, the fizz on arrival and the complimentary anniversary sweet treats were very much appreciated. Special mention should go to Asha, Russell and Scott, but all the staff (whose names we didn’t get) were great. My husband used the spa during our stay, which he said was outstanding. A very relaxing experience all round.
- W9262KAemmap (10/5): Great hotel and spa - Really lovely hotel. Great location in a small village with a variety of cafe’s and pubs. Rooms were lovely. Staff were friendly and helpful. Great spa. Nice and quite great for chilling out, good atmosphere.
- Smith (8/5): Top floor lovely room, no lifts! - Comfort, size of room and beautiful bathroom. TV not set up properly and breaking picture; drafty windows and certainly the top floor room not suitable for a 78 year old to carry heavy baggage to the Alice room. Would not have booked if I'd have known.
- O7181FAmichaelh (10/5): Getting lost in Cuckfield - Not easy for an American to find. A very narrow land from the village to the Manor. Did not eat at the restaurant. Breakfast OK. room fine.
- 213rimae (2/5): Avoid it at any cost! - The mots horrendous experience. Avoid it at any cots!
Booked the room for me and my daughter directly with hotel. Talked to receptionist, that breakfast and dinner will be included in price. On check out I was made to pay £67 for my daughter's meal as apparently her and my rate was different. Receptionist was rude and dismissive. Food tasteless, low quality, ordered pork and it looked terrible. Room was boiling hot with no possibility to adjust the temperature.
- Virginia (8/5): - Nice old charm. Lots of stairs to get to my room and also stairs I. My room.
- Amanda (9/5): Wonderful stay, lovely staff, great treatments - Beautifully comfortable, quirky with beams and very luxurious Nothing
- JamesbattleUK (10/5): Luxury stay in the West Sussex countryside - We had a very short break away just overnight, but we were able to arrive at 2.00pm and enjoy the extensive spa facilities before we were allocated a room. This was a very luxurious room with an extremely comfortable bed allowing the best sleep I have had in a long while. The facilities and surroundings were what you would want for a break away. A beautiful Manor House with comfortable reception rooms furnished with antiques and beautiful porcelain ornaments and wood panelling: it was like a National Trust property where you could actually feel at home, particularly as the staff were so welcoming and not even a hint of stuffiness you can sometimes experience from a hotel of this quality. It felt as though we had been away for much longer as we left feeling so relaxed. We will definitely be treating ourselves to a slice of this luxury again in the future.
- LAURA (9/5): -
- Robin (10/5): -
- David (8/5): Enjoyable and pleasant, I would use the hotel again. - The spa and leisure facilities were very nice, the room was small but comfortable, lacked a few sockets to handily use the kettle and coffee machine. Breakfast was enjoyable and the view from the restaurant was very pleasant if you sat in the garden room area. The only issue I found was the shower head was rather blocked so the shower didn't function as well as it should and the lack of convenient power sockets
- amelinecole02 (10/5): Incredible Hotel & Spa - We could not recommend Ockenden Manor Hotel and Spa enough! The staff were so helpful and welcoming. On arrival we were upgraded to a suite and the room did not disappoint. The bed was extremely comfortable and the towels and robes were great. We loved the large free standing bath. The room was very clean and loved the homemade biscuits on arrival.
The food was amazing, with lots of options and a great breakfast selection. Would highly recommend the Sunday lunch.
The spa was so relaxing, with lots of outdoor spaces to relax with a coffee or smoothie.
We used the Sunday indulgence deal, with a Sunday lunch, night stay in the Tudor suite, breakfast and use of the spa. This deal was great value. We would recommend the room Thomas.
Thank you so much. We hope to be back again soon!
- cyberce (10/5): Wonderful weekend - We booked rooms for ourselves, our adult children and their partners, plus baby grandson. We stayed three nights and enjoyed every second of our stay. Staff were all lovely and helpful, the food and drink excellent with great service. The spa was excellent too.
Something that puts me off many hotels is rules, rules, rules, notices to refrain from doing anything….not here, so I was specially happy.
I think the only rule seemed to be that children are only allowed in the pool at specific times.
Our room, Timothy, was quite a challenge for my very tall husband, as was accessing it. But it is 16th century, and its character is undeniable.
The biscuits in the room were delicious. And left in generous amounts. Also loved the china.
Although breakfast didn’t start at the weekend until 8am, the kitchen were kind enough to make our grandson earlier breakfasts. They also happily made him dinner out of hours.
Excellent all round, and we will return.
- lauraeO2319PD (10/5): Amazing hotel and spa with beautiful rooms, amazing views and welcoming staff. - Beautiful location overlooking the rolling countryside. Relaxed atmosphere with nothing being too much trouble. We stayed in a Junior Spa suite and it was amazing. Clean and spacious with a fabulous bath. Dinner and breakfast were delicious and not overwhelming on amount. All the staff were welcoming, friendly and happy to help in any way. Well worth the visit.
- Beth (8/5): -
- Julie (9/5): - The spa was incredible, we had the most relaxing time. Fantastic breakfast. Cosy room, friendly staff.
We’ll come back !
- suegY7750DZ (10/5): Would 100% recommend - Fabulous stay in Charles room, delicious lunch and 3 course dinner, indulgent spa treatment and enjoyable use of the spa
- North (8/5): -
- Kendal_Green (8/5): Very good hotel. Spa was good but too busy. - Hotel was great. Very good sized bedroom/bathroom. We ate in the restaurant for dinner and breakfast. Both were very good food and service. Used the Spa and Gym. Gym is small and has the essentials. The Spa is very good but the experience was let down by how busy it was both Saturday late afternoon and Sunday late morning.
- Christian (9/5): amazing experience. Definitely worth going back. - great atmosphere and friendly staff. Also the location is very cosy. Our room "Raymond" was also romantic and cosy. The spa was also great, with space and modern features. breakfast, lunch and dinner hours of the inhouse restaurant could be a bit more flexible. For example we wanted to have dinner at 21:00 and it was not possible (we could still get some chease though).
- R2728CBmaxh (8/5): Spa Day Trip - My wife and I visited for a birthday treat. The facilities are good and we both enjoy our treatments. Only downside was that for the price the spa did get quite busy in the afternoon. Would definitely go back again.
- Adrian (10/5): -
- georgegB9250DO (10/5): Book now - zero regrets - absolutely fabulous! - A fantastic stay looked after by Adam and the Team. The spa hotel is arguably one of the best in the country.
- becky070902 (10/5): Fab spa day - Lovely spa day, beautiful spa. I had booked the New Year, New You package. Lunch was excellent. My spa treatment (Mindful Moments) was fabulous and extremely relaxing. I used the pool, outdoor hot tub and steam room; all great. Lots of places to chill out and relax. Would recommend.
- Y9884UMdavidb (10/5): World class hospitality - I cannot thank the team at Ockenden enough. We had a disastrous journey down and were stuck behind an accident for more than 4 hours and missed our spa treatments. Not only did the hotel not charge us for the treatments we missed (even though they would have been entitled to) but they managed to find a slot for one of us when we arrived even though it was a Saturday and they were fully booked. The staff could not have done more to help us salvage our trip. The room was clean, comfortable and we had a great night's sleep. The food, wine and service in the restaurant were all excellent as well. Thank you so much for your incredible hospitality, I hope to return again!
- 456eleanors (8/5): Needs to try harder - We came for the weekend, there was a confusion with our room booking and the room type, a feature suite was booked and we were assigned the Tudor Suite, we emailed Patricia regarding this and she was extremely rude in tone and unhelpful.
We arrived and shown to the room, on first appearances the room was lovely, however the bathroom is not as pictured on Expedia. The bathroom was dirty with green all in the shower screen trim, the window was rotting and just general scum around the sink and window, the dormer was also cracked and peeling.
The bedroom was very large and the little seating area a nice touch. However the lighting in the room is terrible, the dust by the headboard was truly disgusting, it is like the room hasn’t been cleaned properly for 6 months.
The staff and food service was great, the spa is lovely, however not easy to get a bed or somewhere to sit down sometimes.
All in all a nice weekend, however the standard of the room for the cost of it was not up to standard.
- paulbswhite (10/5): Amazing place to stay - Our daughter visits two or three times a year and she recommended Ockenden and we are glad she did! The dinners were some of the best food I have ever tasted, the flavours were amazing. We will definitely return and enjoy even more of the wonderful Spa and hospitality.
- Geraldine (9/5): -
- Joanna (10/5): Relaxing, spa-cation! - What a wonderful stay! The facilities, room, spa and restaurant all brilliant. The staff were attentive and friendly. Breakfast was delicious served quickly and plenty to pick from for all tastes
Only small point is spa use on out arrival day coincided with kids swim so a little busy. Aim for a 5 pm spa session when you check in. Next morning was quiet when we arrived at 11. Treatments were great a float and a LED mask session. Both very relaxing. It’s our second stay and will be back . Navigate any spa time around kids swim times as it can get a little busy
- GIUHEL (6/5): Over priced menu which didn’t deliver. - Recent lunch at Ockenden Manor. Unfortunately, the overall experience had dipped from our previous dining experiences there. The menu was uninspiring and greatly over priced. This would have been acceptable had the quantity and flavours delivered. However, they were found wanting on both levels. Serving staff were polite but lacked top end customer service skills. The dining room was only at 25% capacity and lacked any real form of ambiance. This used to be the go to dining destination in the area for special occasions, however, that day is long gone.
- Parksfamily2014 (10/5): Sumptuous surrounds and impeccable service - Scenic surroundings and sumptuous luxury are the trademarks of this stunning hotel and spa - but it’s by no means their USP - that is purely in the understated, calm, quiet way their staff anticipate and meet every need for their guests - before we even recognise it ourselves!
We had several issues before arriving frazzled and fraught for our overnight stay, not helped by travelling and arriving in ceaseless torrential rain.
Initially disappointed not to be staying in the hotel , we were shown to a magnificent, modern spacious 3 bed room in the spa building , which not only had flip flops, robes and spa bath towels at the ready , but a fridge with complimentary soft drinks , a coffee maker , kettle and fresh cookies, and even a gorgeous tea pot! A patio with a view and stunning bathroom ( huge bath AND separate shower) and comfortable beds completed the reatful room - with the added nice touch that each room is allocated a name rather than a number.
But far beyond this was the staff’s kindness, patience and initiative at managing to soothe our fraught nerves ( their pleasant personas never lapsed even when we temporarily lost the door key!) .
Even tiny touches like umbrellas at the ready , and pointing out best routes around the buildings , are all thought of.
Evening meal and breakfast in the historic old part of the building were both delicious, and again made all the better for the seamless, smiling, smooth service in stunning surroundings- the most impeccably decorated and furnished rooms possible.
Nowhere is perfect - a few more hairdryers would not go amiss - but if all hotels modelled their staffing standards and systems on Ockenden Manor , every guest would leave a very happy person!
- Paris8275 (10/5): Pampering perfection - Wonderful hotel. We stayed in a Cuckfield room which is on the second floor. Beautiful views, gorgeous big bed with scrumptious linen and a large bath. The Spa is exceptional with complimentary hot drinks and the outdoor pool and jacuzzi very special. Fabulous food and a wonderful English Wine menu which was a joy to see. Hopefully will return sometime soon.
- Dedders37 (10/5): Lovely hotel in a great location - A lovely hotel and no doubt a great spa break. Nice rooms, great staff and a good location.
Would’ve like an early morning gym burst but the spa isn’t open until 7am - my problem more than the hotels but it will be a future consideration when I’m over this way on business and need somewhere to stay.
- deek627 (8/5): Excellent but for untrained restaurant staff.... - Had an overnight stay which I very much enjoyed despite the underwhelming restaurant staff. The food was excellent but the head waiter/maitre d' or whatever one is called these days was very odd, though very pleasant. Kept sniffing and it did make me wonder what he might have snorted due to his eccentric behaviour including taking my order standing at the till, 6ft away and shouting my order at me whilst leaning back in a most casual and inappropriate manner.
At breakfast I was not allowed to sit where I wanted because I was told that table is set for lunch. Ten minutes later the waiter started re-arranging the lunch table and when I questioned him he said they had a cancellation and it was now being set for afternoon tea.... whilst I was still waiting for my breakfast to appear. It's a pet hate when waiters and restaurant staff tell you where you can sit. When I pay £300 for B+B, I expect to be able to sit anywhere I like in the restaurant.
I dared to ask the little oriental waitress to fetch marmalade after she pointed out where I could find it....if looks could kill.
Another fabulous place spoilt by untrained staff .......shame as I would like to have returned, but won't.
- h3369 (10/5): Perfect service, exquisite food, beautiful Elizabethan manor with superb modern spa - Stayed here a number of times and it's a place that never disappoints. All of the staff, from reservations to reception and at dinner are friendly & professional, treating guests as individuals (Sarah, Patricia, Asher in reservations/reception and the wonderful Flav & Amy in the restaurant). As returning guests it's lovely to be remembered and welcomed back... Dinner was fantastic- it's always good but every element of this year's courses was so well conceived and well executed. Home smoked salmon was accompanied by smoked and pickled beetroots which were amazing in themselves. Quail melted in the mouth, the al dente green beans contrasted perfectly with the creamed cabbage with minutevpieces of smoky bacon. Best cheesecake ever for dessert- baked Basque cheesecake- caramelised and with a slight hint of citrus cutting through the cream ( we were told this secret ingredient but you'll have to visit to find out).
The spa is superb- it's always impossible to find a seat to rest on but the indoor outdoor pool and outdoor jacuzzi are wonderful. The spa itself has lifts to make it accessible but the changing room showers could be improved by grab rails- it's really difficult when you have a mobility issue to stand without for support. Only other minute constructive criticism would be can staff please check pockets before clearing robes that they think aren't being used? This time we dashed out to stop them being taken from hooks but in the past have lost combs, toiletries spectacles and even our room key when this has happened.
- Cathywswift (10/5): The Tudor room was wonderful - Such a lovely experience. The Tudor room was everything I had hoped for and it’s got that homely feel to it. Although the spa looked amazing I was unable to go in due to a head cold but would love to go back and try it out. I did have a lovely foot treatment with Emily. The food in the restaurant was beautifully cooked but not much of it so we needed to order side dishes and bread even though we had 3 courses and I’m not a big eater portion sizes are tiny but all else was perfect
- Ann-Marie (9/5): Great hotel, spa and restaurant. Staff excellent - Very old historic property, we’ve stayed several times before restaurant team and food were excellent. Reception very helpful Having to pay the whole stay up front, originally we were going to book summer 2025 for January 2026, this has become an annual family event. Didn’t book until November, so we didn’t get the choice of rooms we wanted. What we had was good but we would have liked to stay over the spa. I spoke direct with hotel, happy to pay deposit, give my credit card etc, but they still wanted full payment. Found it very unusual to be asked to pay 7 months in advance
- Andrew (8/5): -
- Natasha (10/5): Lovely stay with wonderful staff - We had a lovely stay. The staff made it for us, they were all lovely! Nothing we didn’t like
- Andrea (10/5): Lovely staff, beautiful setting, excellent food and service - Everything!
- James (9/5): Quintessentially British. A home away from home. - Wonderful stay in a great location for where we needed to be. Spa access was a great perk! And the spa itself was amazing. Staff were absolutely wonderful, very peppy which made a very accommodating environment. It was clean and homely and the service at breakfast was great. It felt like staying with family. Nothing
- Caroline (6/5): Reception staff brilliant helpful. - History location use of Spa Bathroom not clean. Rectified .
Dinner awful. Waiter argued about cold food. Desert was choice type eclair one and not fresh filling a teaspoon.
Breakfast terrible . Poor quality bacon. Supermarket bread. No dough dough. Mean portions compared to equivalent of the Swan in Southwold who use locally high quality ingredients.
- martinrhowells (8/5): Great food and warm, welcoming staff. - The staff throughout our stay were warm and helpful. The food was excellent. We were able to take our dog which was great. The Spa is in a different building which meant we had to dress for the cold weather to access it. Also there is not the opportunity to buy a glass of Champagne or something nice at the lounge in the Spa. Our room had a great view over the park but the decor felt a little tired. Also no fridge or localised climate control. In my view this made it a bit overpriced for the facilities offered.

- abigailk667 (10/5): A most excellent place to stay... - We loved everything about Ockenden Manor! From the warm atmosphere and incredibly clean and comfortable rooms to the charming decor and gorgeous views. Alas, we only stayed one night but it was a most excellent night, followed by a delicious breakfast the next morning. I would be thrilled to come back someday and have a mooch around the shops in Cuckfield.
- Anna Zatsepina (9/5): - Lovely place, beautiful inside and outside, friendly staff, nice spa facilities, delicious food at dinner. beds could have been more comfortable, but other than that all great!
- Kirsty (8/5): Lovely setting, clean and modern spa in historical manor grounds. - Lovely clean & modern spa facilities. Friendly staff.
Awesome massage. The restaurant is a little formal and expensive - would be great to have a more modern and accessible menu. It was a bit ‘fine dining’ for a chilled spa trip.
The steam room was out of order which really does impact a spa day and makes it busier elsewhere - so it would have been nice to be offered some compensation here or acknowledge this.
The regular clientele moaned openly about how busy it was in the spa area - which made for some awkward sauna time. As paying guests of the spa, you don’t want to feel like you’re not wanted there! It also became very hectic when kids were allowed in and would be good to pre-warn guests the times kids are in the spa - so you can work your day around this, should you want to avoid.
- Catherine (8/5): Amazing old hotel, with lovely spa - enjoyed the swim in / swim out pool! - Amazing room, enjoyed drinks in the cosy drawing room and bar. The steam room wasn't open
- Ciaran (10/5): - Everything is perfect highly recommend No complaints had a great time
- Sophie (7/5): Lovely hotel in a beautiful setting, with incredible spa, slightly spoiled by undewhelming service - Ambience and charm in main hotel was lovely; facilities in spa were great, the room was large and comfortable with a great view. The quality of the food at dinner and breakfast were both strong. The check in and general service at both the main hotel and in the spa area were diffident and offhand. It did not feel like a five star experience. The steam room which we'd be really looking forward to using was out of action the whole time we stayed but when we asked about it we were dismissed in a rather abrupt way. When we enquired if the reception staff could assist us with booking a wine vineyard tour at the nearby Bolney Estate, we were told they don't know anything about them - even though the hotel partners with them for spa day treats and clearly does have a close relationship.
- Nicole (10/5): Excellent stay ! - Excellent hotel welcoming staff , a beautiful historic building , nice spa , excellent food , excellent toiletries , & have to say the staff stood out for their excellent hospitality & service both reception & waiting staff. Shame steam not working

- Anna (10/5): Character hotel full of charm, elegance and feels like a real treat. - A beautiful hotel in a stunning setting full of character and such a treat to stay at. The spa is absolutely beautiful and it is so nice to be able to use it on the day you arrive and the day you leave - swimming under the stars is a highlight. Our room had beautiful hand-painted wallpaper and antique furniture too, there were lovely roaring fires in the lounges. Local walks are brilliant but do bring wellies in winter.

- robinia (10/5): Very lovely - Everything it was so relaxing beautiful and staff were so lovely the spa was do perfect for a swim outdoors after a long day working. Very lovely dinner setting felt very welcome as a solo woman working 🙌🏻 N/a
- David (10/5): Fab U Lous !!! Couldn’t recommend more .. - We loved the setting, the beautiful building .. its warm winter welcome as soon as you arrive and friendly staff
The room itself was nice and cosy, steeped in a sense of history, decorated very tastefully and presented immaculately.. in particular the bathroom was pristine and really just so :))) and the bed was super comfy with lovely linen too - just perfect !
- markwF6022IZ (10/5): Superb! - We stayed for 2 nights, including delicious breakfasts and evening meals from their Sussex menu. Our entire experience was superb and so would thoroughly recommend! We must say, the entire staff were incredibly helpful and genuinely ‘couldn’t do enough for us!’ A truly refreshing and enjoyable mini break.

- billandsusiec (10/5): An experience not to be missed - Just another excellent experience at Ockenden Manor. We have stayed a number of times over the years and return again and again as we know we will enjoy all that this superb hotel has to offer which encompasses the location, facilities, fine dining, friendly and helpful staff including a lovely spa. We are returning for Christmas as it is it offers so much.

- tanyaradu (4/5): Not worth the money – outdated and disappointing - I stayed here expecting a luxury experience, but it was far from it. The property is extremely dated — it’s obvious they haven’t invested a cent in over 20 years. The spa facilities are basic and tired, nothing close to what you’d expect from a high-end resort. I paid £90 for a 30-minute facial using very basic products, which felt like a complete rip-off. Dinner was fine but definitely not worth £70 per person for three average courses. The spa is also open to external visitors, so there were no loungers available to relax after treatments. Overall, absolutely not a £700 experience — very poor value for money.
- Paul (10/5): - The room was lovely, the spa was above expectations, and all meals were excellent !
- rubbler (8/5): More hanging space please - I love this spa but it would be a massive improvement if they provided more places for people to hang their robes and towels. People then wouldn’t put them on loungers and chairs and unnecessarily reserving them without actually wanting them!
- Shaz (9/5): Superb - Essentially everything, especially the upgraded room. Thanks Can’t think of anything
- sarahbT4337WK (10/5): Restorative stay - Great value for money. I was lucky enough to be upgraded to a fabulous room in the main hotel. It was warm, quiet and extremely comfortable. The spa treatments were fantastic and the pool and surrounding area were clean, relaxing and well-maintained. Above all, the staff were welcoming, friendly and efficient. I will return!
- marktB1452SR (2/5): A disappointing visit - My partner took me away for my birthday .
Definitely a trip of 2 halves .. hotel was wonderful , clean , tidy , well equipped & the upgraded room lovely , food , drink & service very attentive .
The spa however a huge disappointment & ruined what should have been a relaxing weekend break .
The spa looked tired & tatty & not to the same standard as the hotel at all .
The problem however seems to be the culture of ' reserving' the few loungers with towels / bags of other guests that where clearly not using them but felt they could reserve for hours .
Raising this issue with a guest that felt this was acceptable created a complaint & thus we were then promptly asked to leave the spa immediately by the spa manager Annie who flatly refused to even discuss the situation .
My partner has been to Ockenden several times with family & friends & feels the spa has gone downhill dramatically & was very sad for me to have this experience as a birthday treat .

- Robert (7/5): Very nice, but disappointing for the price - I would say about 30-40% overpriced for the standard. - The spa facilities are very nice. We didn't have a treatment, but the indoor-outdoor pool is excellent and the hot tubs / jacuzzis are great. The sauna and steam room are very comfortable but not perfect. The staff are faultless - really good - the imperfections are caused by shortcoming in more senior management decisions I suspect. There was a slight smell of drains in the steam room and at one point the water for all the showers stopped working. For the money charged, one would expect maintenance to be impeccable. The room in the hotel was really comfortable, but again just a few too many faults and shortcomings for the £300-400 per night price point. The kettle did not work properly (it did not stop automatically and we had to switch off at the wall) and it was a low budget item (the kind one sees in budget hotels). And the milk was UHT in plastic pots - again, reminiscent of budget hotels and not what one would expect at a higher priced establishment. And it was not well stocked - there were only enough tea bags for one cup each. The bed was really comfortable but the frame collapsed at one point when I went to bed - the slats were not secured as they had deteriorated over time and not been fixed. These are all things that could easily be avoided with a bit of care and spend by senior management (again - I can't fault the staff at the hotel - these are all things that indicate bad budgeting decisions by the owners / managers).
- lisa0livia (4/5): Overall we felt very let down, unheard and sadly would not recommend a stay. - We stayed at Ockenden for a couple of nights away. Hoping for a quiet little retreat. Staying in 'cosy' room "Emma" we quickly discovered our room backed onto the kitchen, much to our disappointment we could pretty much hear word for word conversations. This coupled with the sound of the nearby bins being used outside of the window made what was meant to be a peaceful getaway quite the opposite! After talking to reception we were promised the manager would be noticed of our dissatisfaction in the morning, but felt very much dismissed. After informing reception the following day we were again brushed off. A real shame. The room felt a little tired, the phone and television did not work, there were no menus in the room for room service and when we eventually phoned the hotel from our mobile and the room service came I was greeted by two members of staff. This was totally unnecessary and felt really uncomfortable as a queer couple. My non-binary partner was repeatedly misgendered, would suggest training around non heteronormative people. A defence on the price point is not an excuse for bad customer care and an unrelaxing stay. We really enjoyed the food in the evening and the spa was a real treat. Overall we felt very let down, unheard and sadly would not recommend Ockendon Manor.
- 65johnboy (10/5): Lovely few days away. - I grew up around Cuckfield but have never stayed here. We took the opportunity to go for a few days, to enjoy the spa, countryside etc. Excellent food, service, rooms very clean etc. Can’t fault the hotel at all…only the attitude of the spa staff, which shouldn’t reflect on the hotel.
- dustin (10/5): Fantastic venue and staff were great - Lovely property throughout
- Wendy (9/5): -
- Brigitte (7/5): - Eten was minder van kwaliteit.
- Michael (8/5): Would stay again - Very clean and friendly staff. Loved the little touches like heating on when we arrived in the room plenty of towels. The only reason i wouldnt give it a 10 because the pool was not hot enough for our liking. And jacuzzi was cold on the first day also.
- hollyberry12 (4/5): Beware - not a peaceful spa experience! - Beware the spa at this hotel is very busy and noisy - not at all peaceful. We only discovered once there that in fact the hotel spa has around 500 members. The weekend we were there it felt that all 500 were using the spa at once! Including many children. The hotel itself is fine - although tired in places and not worth the money in my opinion. The staff were mostly friendly and helpful. However, if you are looking for a peaceful spa experience avoid this hotel at all costs.

- MarionT655 (10/5): Relaxing and refreshing - We had a lovely stay at Ockenden Manor. The staff were welcoming and friendly, the food delicious and accommodation first class. The spa is very relaxing. Will definitely return.
- lindseyf516 (10/5): A historic gem with a wonderful team - The team are warm and welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. My room was clean, quirky, cosy and comfortable. The food was lovely. The spa is incredible, I just wish I’d had more time to experience everything the hotel has to offer!
- Alice (10/5): brilliant would stay again - everything was excellent nothing to say
- Kristy (9/5): Absolute bliss. We plan on returning. - The room, the view, the food, the complimentary mini bar, the high end bedding, the robes and flip flops, the friendliness of the staff. More inside lounges in the spa area as it was too cold outside to use the outside lounges. I realise there is no space for extra lounges, perhaps separating the seating area behind reception from the reception entrance would make it feel more comfortable when you are lounging around in your swimwear and robe.
- T4434XNrachelr (10/5): Absolutely lovely hotel - Second time we've been and have stayed in both the old building and now, the modern rooms at the Spa. The room was lovely; the food was delicious; the wine list - in particular the range of English wines - is fabulous; and surprisingly good value; the staff are extremely friendly.
- Robert (8/5): Too much chlorine - Pampered completely Had issue with the jacuzzi as it had a chlorine overload and my wife's NEW bikini was ruined by the bleach
