Guest Reviews
- carla (6/5): Riad dar Foundouk - Certos empregados sao exceptionais, outros nem tanto.
Quarto limpo menos as carpetes.

- Catalano (7/5): Good -
- Alexandra (1/5): Avoid this one. - Very dissapointing customer service. The lady on reception was rude and argumentative. Check in is 12 o clock according to booking.com but the room was not ready so instead of apologies she told us ‘do you want clean room or do you want it dirty? ‘ also she took extremely serious the ‘police form’ and literally made 4-5 corrections on my form , but again in a complete bossy style🤨. it took more than one hour for the room to be ready. The place feels dirty anyway, breakfast is very basic, i would definitely NOT reccomend this one. We stayed in another one 300 m away-same price- lot better. I didnt liked the place and some staff.
- Tahar (10/5): Exceptional - Location, and the darb, plus the neighbours, the reception walid and the girl was very helpful , All good
- Vicki (10/5): Great location and good value for money. - Great Riad, we were met by Rana who shown us through the maze of streets which was a great touch. She took time to go through where all the attractions were and what was available at the Riad. The room was spacious, with a great shower, TV and AC all working. There is a small pool for sitting in too cool off. Breakfast was served what time we wanted and was a traditional Moroccan meal which was lovely. We also booked a trip via Rana which was good value for money and very enjoyable.
- Vicki (10/5): Exceptional - Great location, we booked a transfer and was met by Rana who was very welcoming and explained various areas etc to see. The room was comfortable, with good AC and big enough for the 4 of us. It has a great indoor plunge pool which we used to cool off in. Also breakfast was lovely.
The Road is not so hard to find once you get your bearings, only a few minutes walk from the souks.
- Ulfah (5/5): Passable -
- Jozef (8/5): Good stay in the moddle of Medina - Quiet location, welcoming lady at reception, good breakfast, comfortable beds Nothing
- Gail (8/5): Very good - Quit and beautiful place to stay in the middle
of the city. Staff were very friendly, kind and helpful.
- Rarhman (10/5): - Overall it was an excellent stay. We loved the style of the hotel.
We loved how quiet it was even though it’s in heart of medina, step away from souks. Staffs were amazing, always smiling and very helpful. Loved the selection of breakfast.
GISLANE was very sweet and she made sure we were looked after.
it was very clean, cosy, looked very very good and it’s a very safe accomodation. You can’t enter the Riad yourself, you have to ring the reception and they will come to open the door for you. doesn’t matter what time you arrive..
- Sara (6/5): Pleasant -
- Yoshkova (8/5): Very good - Very comfortable room with modern amenities and plenty of space. The lighting in the bathroom was really poor and the shower was one of those old school static ones where the shower head doesn't come off or move up and down to adjust to one's height.
- John (8/5): Very good - The welcome Disappointing roof top.
- SoniaM1437 (6/5): Riad Dar Foundouk - We, my daughter and I, only slept at the riad. We didn’t experience it during daytime because we had other things to do. But in the mornings and evenings the staff were polite and friendly. And it’s located in walking distance from the souk in the medina.
- Efthymios (10/5): My stay was a delightful blend of comfort, courtesy, and contentment. - I had an absolutely wonderful stay! The staff was incredibly welcoming and attentive, the room was clean and comfortable, and the amenities were top-notch. Ican't wait to return for another enjoyable experience!
- Rodriguez (10/5): Exceptional - You must put a sign to help tourist find the Riad ! Nice people and great breakfast ! Thanks a lot
- Anita (4/5): Disappointing - It was not clean. The staff was not helpful. Breakfast only served for 3 persons whereas we were 4. The path leading to the hotel very dirty.
- Karim (10/5): Exceptional - Well located, good breakfast, large room and clean, friendly staff , all that for a very reasonable price. Nice bargain for limited budget, and they have a small pool...
- Malgorzata (8/5): Great stay - Staff very friendly, good service, help with airport lifts and places to visit. Location is nice and quiet compared to the rest of the area. Room was specious and clean (plus bed was comfortable) the sun terrace is lovely and the small pool great to refresh yourself when it is hot. Very nice breakfast. Excellent deal for the price I paid.
- Emma (10/5): - Staff of riad were very friendly and provided a good service and provided help with airport lifts, places to visit and guidance on getting around. Location is hidden away but nice and quiet compared to rest of area. Rooms nice and spacious clean and bed super comfy and the sun terrace is lovely to relax on. Would visit again.
- Tomasz (4/5): Disappointing - No breakfast was served before 8.00 so we had to go for excursions without eating anything.
- karim (10/5): - Beautiful riad, Nice and welcoming, The staff is making sure you have a pleasant stay. I really enjoyed the breakfast at the terrasse, my room was big. They also have a small pool that comes really handy when it gets too hot during the day.
- DayTrip00075015385 (4/5): Would I stay here again , NO - The Riad itself was lovely , so morrocan and authentic. Check in was fine , the hosts were friendly on arrival and made us a cup of morrocan tea, The room was fine , comfy beds and clean linen and towels, the bathroom however was dark and dingy with mould on the walls around the bath, and the smell was horrible like a sewage smell, we had to keep the door closed to stop the whole room from smelling, breakfast consisted of boiled eggs(hard) bread and preserves, a morrocan flatbread and some cake a flask of coffee and a glass of orange juice. We asked for more coffee and orange on our first morning and was told that we would have to pay for anything extra , also they asked us every day what time we would be down for breakfast so they could put the breakfast out , sometimes we were a few minutes late and the eggs and coffee were just warm , I found the hosts very unwelcoming , on our last morning we left the Riad at 7-30am and they wouldn’t even give us a drink as breakfast started at 8am , personally I, m sure that there are better Riads with a lot more friendly approach to guests . I definitely wouldn’t stay here again and having travelled to many places around the world this is the first review I have ever put on here as I don’t want anyone to waste their money staying her
- Khizer (1/5): Beware!! And do not book through booking.com if paying by cash on site. Charges will be added - Really trying hard to think of a positive but there isn't one. Asked for twin room, received double room.
The ceiling light was flickering and broken.
One of the wall lamps was flickering and broken.
Breakfast was served well before agreed time so it was cold when indulged.
The property tries to charge travellers a "commission" above and beyond the price agreed on booking.com, this charge is around 10%. Which is ludicrous as booking.com states all taxes, charges and fees are included. We were told to pay or to find another hotel.
- Virginia (2/5): worst riad I ever booked in marrakech - the Riad is very beautiful inside from the start the staff was very unfriendly, made us feel uncomfortable and not welcome. it wasn‘t possible to pay by card
we weren’t allowed to bring water to our room for hygiene reasons but would have to buy them at the reception (for 4times the normal price)
there are security cameras all over the property surveilling the guest ….
the riad is quiet far away from the main square especially at night when the souk gates are closed
i had flee bites all over my body after the stay
- Oscar (8/5): Great little Riad in the heart of Marrakesh - It was a nice location, in the medina but quiet so you could escape the madness of Marrakesh. The rooms were spacious and air conditioning worked a treat. It had a nice rooftop terrace to catch some sun. The staff were nice and helpful. No signs to say the hotel was down a the end of an alley, but once you know its there it is fine. The breakfasts were nice but it was the same everyday. We booked a taxi to the mountains through the hotel and they added a lot on top, £25 extra. It would be worth avoiding doing this with them.
- Heather (6/5): Just ok. A bit overpriced for what it is - but good location. - Location was great, not too far from a parking place but easy to walk to the major sights and the souks. Rooms were quite nice. Breakfast was great. The “pool” was a birdbath/fountain that was ice cold. Not for swimming at all as advertised. I was charged more than the confirmed booking price on the site. The staff was not overly friendly- just ok.
- Atanaska (3/5): Poor - The riad was clean and rooms are cleaned on a daily basis. Nice breakfast. The reception staff were rude and not considerate or helpful. I was constantly stressed asking about anything and didn't feel comfortable doing so. The riad offered hammams and excursions but was a nightmare trying to arrange anything and nothing was what it said it was. Never tried the spa for the very same reason. Would imagine other places are better value for money.
- Idanice (10/5): my partner and I have loved our stay in the Riad. We loved the staff. They were so welcoming and caring specially our ho - The Riad is lovely !! very neat, clean and aesthetically pleasing to the eye. very peaceful nothing at all
- Mohammed (2/5): The worst place ever - I don't recommend it at all. We were so tired from the trip and the check in was so slow 🐌 and they didn't care . They are not professional they talk bad and are very rude ( the gorl in the reception as the one who cleans)As it was so hard to find the place. The breakfast was so bad and not enough for 4 persons. When we asked for better she said you can geg better at the Mamounia.
- Piia (9/5): Superb - the stuff was super lovely and helped us with everything. Breakfast was really good and the location was good, we were able to walk everywhere. The cleaning people didnt switch the towels they just folded them so we had no way of knowing which towel was whose. The place also had some mold.
- Catalina (10/5): Price versus quality, the place to be. - Very good property for the price paid. The staff made sure I had a pleasant stay, they surely went the extra mile to please me. Rooms are nice and large and is breakfast is great.
- Fab (10/5): Exceptional - The staff is really very available and sociable. The place is a few minutes far from the main square and the riad is amazing! The beds are comfortable, the room is very clean and the bathroom is very good.
- Anuar (8/5): excellent stay in marrakesh, close to all the foodie heavens - excellent location. staff prepared us very nice breakfast and very accommodating with our questions toilet, no hose provided
- kimberlyDVEN (10/5): Excellent Riad - Excellent Riad with a really cool history and phenomenal staff. We booked a suite, which was nice and spacious and the decor was wonderful. This place was a lovely oasis in the medina and the breakfast was unbelievably good. We'd definitely stay again.
- X893FYdavidb (10/5): Mr Bennett - We spent 5 nights here in the delightful riad located inside the Medina, room was comfortable and the ladies were always on hand for all our questions and advice both looked after us amazingly even making sure we were picked up by the correct people for excursions. Highly recommended.stay thanks again
- 104candelat (8/5): Fantastic choice! Proper Moroccan experience. Thank you - We stayed at this riad for 5 days and it was great (mum, dad and two young kids). The location is fantastic, the breakfast is superb and Rashid, the host, is truly a lovely guy. He went above and beyond to make sure we were having the best experience we could possibly have of Marrakesh and the Moroccan culture.
The riad is clean, in an unbeatable location, our room was spacious and had air con. TV didn't work but we didn't care. The patio is fantastic and very relaxing. There's the most subtle music in the background that enhances the natural trickling of the water.
Thank you again Rashid for offering us so much and for welcoming us with a smile on your face every time. Thanks again. 👣
- 381Clare47 (10/5): Fantastic friendly and relaxing Riad - We loved our stay at Dar Foundouk. All the staff were wonderfully welcoming and friendly. The Riad was very original fitted out in authentic Moroccan furniture and decor. Breakfast is was a homemade feast - absolutely delicious. Everywhere was clean and tidy. Would happily return again. Thank you so much 😊
- Mclorenzin (4/5): Average stay in the Medina, the place was nice but the payment situation left us a bitter taste - Comfortable bed, adecuate spacious room, full breakfast, assistance from front desk when needed to have basic information about the city. Hammam space and experience very recommended. Staying at a riad is a unique experience. We had from the very beggining uncomfortable situations with the front desk regarding the payment. I did not like that we had to pay in cash, this could have been mentioned in the description. At the end of our stay, they claimed that we still needed to pay more money, which was not true. I had to contact Booking at 11pm so that they can explain to the owner that we had already paid everything.
- DiogoFigueira (10/5): Amazing Riad at the heart of Marrakesh - We had the greatest of time at Riad dar Foundouk. The Riad is beautiful. The staff is so very welcoming and helpful and makes you feel totally at home. Breakfast is varied and changes daily. Bonus for the great playlist of songs they played everytime we were at the Riad! Highly recommended!
- Camallera (8/5): Riad dar foundouk and spa - Just spent 3 nights here looked after by 2 superb hosts Brahim and Joad! They couldn't do enough for you, pleasant and very helpful. The Riad itself was traditional, very clean and plenty for breakfast. The situ of the hotel could have been better as it is where the locals live and near the tanneries. Quite an intimidating area, not for fainthearted!
- M (4/5): - Nice quiet location, but exceedingly hard to find. Staff communication skills were poor even in French and we had a lot of problematic communication issues. We had dinner once in the riad and found it the least remarkable meal of the trip at double the cost. We asked for beverages with our meal and the server disappeared for 20 mins to go buy them. Old fixtures and poor security, and a general inflexibility made me regret the choice
- Bridget H. (8/5): A happy stay - This was good value for a clean, well located hotel. Friendly, helpful staff. Delicious breakfast. Lovely roof terrace. Recommended. My only bugbear was that I didn't get a response to a question I asked when I first booked.
Minpuntje: Zwembad is erg klein
- Mohammed (2/5): Riad foundouk - Bjr.
- ElisaCaroli (8/5): The staff is gentle and really nice - The place is surrounded by silence, there is no traffic, no screaming, nothing. Just some birds singing. The position is in the middle of a lot of museum and street markets. The staff talks French and a little of English. We stayed in the 4 beds room and it was really comfortable
- Niha (8/5): - Staff were very nice and welcoming, super helpful! Even when we had issues with our reservation (on Expedia’s part), they offered us a room. The breakfast was lovely.
We expected the place to be a bit more lively but we appreciated the calm ambience.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nett und ruhig. Preis-Leistung absolut in Ordnung.
- Ele (6/5): - Rian carino posizione ottima. Colazione ottima. Wifi solo aree comuni spa e piscina chiusi. Contattare la struttura prima di arrivare difficilissimo. Personale cordiale e gentile
- Verified traveler (6/5): - it was ok not a serviced hotel but nice stay
- Jaafar and Magalie (8/5): Not the right place for foreigners - The riad is beautiful. However, the pool was empty with no night lights, that makes the place more beautiful at night.
The 2 men in charge of checking and breakfast had no language skills. They spoke only moroccan and had no experience or didn’t look professional.
It was cold outside when having breakfast and they have no outdoor heaters.
Each time we came back in during the day or at night, nobody opened the door.
We waited 45 minutes to have someone open the door and it was another customer tired of hearing the door bell.
Very bad neighborhood too.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - nice, beatiful riad and room, brahim was excellent host,i would come back.
- Rehan (2/5): - Okay hotel in a not so okay area. Too many local “guides” trying to take money off you. Use google maps when you get off the taxi and its a 2 min walk. One guide was really forceful and started following us, then he told us he wouldn’t charge and changed his mind when we got there. Hassan and Abdul Wahid were nice and friendly and helped to book excursions for us, but they obviously have some ‘agreement’ with the providers which was apparent. Riad was nice and clean and has only 4/5 rooms in it. Pool was out of order, but was actually just a large sized pond. Not able to swim in there at all. Looking at 200dirhams to swim at other places. Breakfast is very mediocre, tea, bread, yoghurt, juice and jam. No refills and so had to go out and eat. Overall Morocco was a great place to visit, everyone is trying to take money off you so be very careful and always haggle!
- Rachel (2/5): - The property is very hard to be found...beware of the man helping you find and then demanding very large sum of money. I did feel very unsafe.
The receptionist boy was very good and willing to assist but that is where the good things finish.
The room was dirty, the sheets were not even changed from the previous guests...We have ordered dinner on the first night and the portions were very small and the meal wasn't good. Breakfast was not good either - 3 different jams, pastry and butter. The pastry (only 1 per person) was not eatable (very hard, probably staying out for a week).
I wouldn't recommend the place at all, don't get mislead by the pictures on the website.
- Chris595 (4/5): Dire need of renovation - Good reviews of this Riad are dated 2-3 years ago. Located about 20 minutes walk through a narrow maze of alleyways from Dar Fnaa Square. In 3 night we only found the correct route once. This Riad needs total renovation - URGENTLY.. Reception/breakfast served by one young man. He speaks no English. Rooms are clean but very dated. Shower room ceramics worn out (glaze completely gone) Breakfast served only from 08.30-10.00 consists of two pieces of bread, jam, yogurt, mint tea or coffee. Bright photos and dip pool on website clearly taken many years ago. Pool not in use for a long time. Requested pick up from airport didn't happen.
- Josie (8/5): Great riad in the central medina - We arrived late on a Monday evening when unfortunately there were no English speaking staff on site. However the porter was very patient and made a great effort to speak simple French to me to explain everything. There was a slight issue with us being put in the wrong room, but they quickly fixed that after the second day.
The breakfast was really great, and we had 2 meals there during our stay that were both delicious! We also got a massage - a bit expensive but very enjoyable. Unfortunately the Hammam wasn’t available.
A slight pain point was that the website wasn’t accurate - pricings seemed wrong, and it made the language barrier a little trickier when trying to book/order things.
The team were so wonderful and accommodating, and really made us feel welcome in Marrakech. We look forward to returning to them!
- Verified traveler (2/5): Totally unreliable. Don't book - Arrived late after checked in luggage didn't arrive at airport and found that they are had sold my room. No offer of tea or water, just told to wait 10 minutes to be transferred to another hotel. 90 minutes later and after begging for water we were sent to a cheaper hotel further away from the center. I would avoid this hotel if you can.
- kirsty (8/5): Nice comfortable hotel close to the big square - A very comfortable hotel with lovely helpful staff, the rooms are nice and clean with a very cosy feel. The hotel is a nice walking distance to the main big square with lots of little shops on the way there
- Emmanuel (10/5): Our superb Riad - I was not expecting this. When I did enter in the small street leading the Riad. But once i was in it was just amazing. The place, staff (really nice) and the atmosphere (authentic) just make you feel super welcome. I recommend it for sure. Emmanuel
- Azad (4/5): Hard to find hidden in a narrow alley. - Hard to find this Riad hidden in surrounding buildings. Not in a good area. Far away from main roads. Taxi can't go near Riad because of narrow road. Air condition didn't work in my room so I couldn't sleep. Staff is friendly.
- Koys (4/5): You're charged in euro not dirhams! - We booked this riad fairly cheaply, 7nights for 90£ but didn't stay here that many nights. Of the 7 nights booked, spent only 4 nights here, 2nights at arrival and 2 prior departure. We were the only 2 people there using 1 of their 5 rooms. It was a bit too quiet with only a cleaner there during the morning, and 1 of 2 desk staff during the day on shifts.
Pros - clean without any bugs.
Quiet location.
Good hot and cold water supply.
I peaked in to the other rooms and noticed all toilets looked new.
Comfy beds.
The cons - it's located in the Medina which if you're coming from the square, it's through the maze like market place. Some people may like the idea of this, but it's not a great experience being pestered by teens trying to guide you all over the place to get you to the riad or through the market and then asking for money even after you turned their help down. You get this after every few corners you turned. I was lucky to have an offline sat nav app that gave walking directions through the madina, without this, I think I would have just lived at a hotel by the square and not the madina.
The breakfast is just tea/coffee, stale bread, juice and jams. One of the mornings we just requested coffee and juice, but only coffee was waiting for us without the milk or juice.
The 3 course dinner available to request during breakfast is very pricey at 30 euros, yes euros, the hotel charges in euro instead of dirhams.
No snack bar
- koys430 (4/5): Nice riad, terrible location. - We booked this riad fairly cheaply, 7nights for 90£ but didn't stay here that many nights. Of the 7 nights booked, spent only 4 nights here, 2nights at arrival and 2 prior departure. In between we went to agadir (a much cooler and better place I'd say). When we returned, we found out room open without being told why but our belongings were untouched (I took photos before I left for agadir). We were the only 2 people there using 1 of their 5 rooms. It was a bit too quiet with only a cleaner there during the morning, and 1 of 2 desk staff all other times.

There is no snack bar. Any food you need, you will need to buy yourself from outside.
They charge 3euro per person room tax per night. This was listed as 3 dirhams online but 'apparently' that was a mistake. So it cost us an additional 50£ in tax. When queried why it's in euros, Hasan the owner said it's wrong as 3 dirhams is no nothing. I paid 3 dirhams tax per night in agadir!
The little pool in the sitting area wasn't working, so you couldn't cool down anywhere after a long day in the 40 degrees heat.
I was looking forward to my stay here in this riad, but unfortunately I would not be returning here due to the lack of honest pricing on their site and booking agents (Expedia for us). The location (next to the bin Yousef Madresah) in the medina may be ideal for the more adventurous, but not for anyone traveling with a woman as it can get a little intimidating when you're being called out and followed around trying to navigate the madina. It's worse In the evenings as a lot of the routes lead to dead ends due to certain large doors being closed.
I don't think I'll be returning to marrakech again, I'd rather go straight to agadir.
As the locals of agadir told me, the people of marrakech are quite rude and aggressive. Tell someone 'no' once in agadir, they'll leave you alone, whereas in marrakech you need to run away from them.
- jordand122 (6/5): A little disappointing - After reading the previous reviews I had high hopes for Riad Dar Foundouk. The hotel is clean, and well maintained, and breakfast was standard Moroccan fare, but there were a few disappointing things.
-We were told that the tax listed on the booking site was incorrect, and we would be required to pay 10 times the listed price. When asked who would fix this so future guests weren't shocked we were told 'it's not my problem'
-The plunge pool, which we were really looking forward to was empty, and we were told broken for some time.
One positive, though odd thing: we were the only ones staying in the hotel, so it was very quiet.
- 926victoriar (2/5): A disappointment with terrible customer service - We stayed here two nights. When we arrived the man who manages the riad (I'm guessing he's an employee of the owner of the Riad) didn't know about our reservation. We sat in the courtyard for an hour while he called his manager and tried to ascertain whether or not we actually had paid for our rooms.
That's a harmless nuisance, but not a huge deal. Where things got shady was when he asked us for 6 euros per night on top of the hotel fee we had already paid. We knew there was a 'hotel tax' since our hotels.com booking had said so- but it had said 2.5 dirham per night. The guy insisted this was an error and when we told him that we understood, and that while we would pay this we suggest that he contact hotels.com and clear it up, he said he didn't care and it wasn't his problem.
I think there's a huge language barrier problem since he clearly didn't speak very good English OR French - yes, he didn't speak much French. So communicating with him throughout the following two days was painful at best.
I had wanted this riad because of the plunge pool shown in the courtyard photos. With 40degree heat in the middle of the day in Marrakesh, a plunge pool was going to be deliciously refreshing. So I was utterly disappointed when we arrived and the pool was empty. I asked why and he said something about filtration.
The room itself was fine - had air conditioning, clean sheets, etc. The towels felt like sand paper and the shower is hand held, so for the rating it gives itself as a higher-priced Riad it certainly does not deliver. We're lucky we got a good deal on Hotels.com (it was $27CAD per night, but with that stupid tax it worked out to more like $37CAD per night).
The breakfast was 3 different types of bread and some yoghurt. Pretty much the most budget you could get.
Honestly this place has potential and I believe that it was probably awesome a year ago. It must have changed hands or management or something because there were only 2 people staffing it, and the place was empty. A lesson in basic customer service would be a worthwhile investment.
So to sum up, this riad is perfectly fine as basic accommodation if you're alright with:
1. No plunge pool
2. Poor communication and general stand-offishness from staff
3. tacking on an extra 3 euro per person per night
4. Towels that feel like sandpaper
5. A hand held shower (try washing your hair with only one hand!)
6. A carb-only breakfast of bread, bread, and more bread. With a little pot of yoghurt thrown in for good measure.
- Jordan (6/5): a little past it's prime - When we arrived we were told we would have to pay 10 times the amount of tax listed on the website. The website lists 3 MAD per day, but it's supposed to be 3 EUR. We were prepared for this as it's what we paid at other riads in Marrakech, but when we asked who would fix it so other guests wouldn't feel ripped off, we were told by the front desk person that it wasn't his problem. He was the only person we actually saw at the hotel for our 2 night stay, I think it was empty. We were looking forward to the plunge pool, but it was as empty as the rest of the hotel, and we were told it was broken. Overall this riad is a little past it's prime, but worth it if you can get a good deal.
