Guest Reviews
- Judith (8/5): -
- Karen (5/5): - The room size.. Free access to the rainforest walk and hanging bridges Hotel was advertised as having an à la carte restaurant. It did not. So no lunch or dinner available. We had to order a takeaway to be delivered . Fortunately we had enough cash to pay for it. Delivery driver did not take credit card.
- Pedro (2/5): n 12 amazing days in Costa Rica this hotel was the only bad experience we had. There was a ladie at the reception that w - Location Receptionist

Slippery floor
- Silvana (5/5): - The location is nice, and the room had a beautiful view. The welcome was far from friendly. We first had to sign a long list of rules about what is not allowed in the room, and were told that even stains on the sheets would cost $20. We were also not allowed to dry wet clothes on the balcony.
The location is nice, and the room had a beautiful view. However, it seemed like there hadn’t been guests for a while, as there were many dead flies and insects in the room, including on the floor and even on the bed.
We were not given the Wi-Fi password, and when we wanted to ask for it later, there was no one at the reception anymore.
The service at breakfast was not particularly friendly either.
The toilet seats would not stay up on their own, which was quite inconvenient.
Overall, the room is definitely not worth $300. Maybe around $80 for a family room would be reasonable, but certainly not more.

- Suba (9/5): Superb -
- Rebecca (6/5): Basic but pleasant inn near some excellent birding, - The location was perfect for birding which was our goal. Room was pleasant Services were limited. No dinner available so had to leave the property at night.
- Harold (8/5): Great way to start off our vacation and a prefect place to stop on the way to Arenal. - Flight delays and rental car problems put us on the road to the Lodge later than planned. But we called ahead and they were very accommodating, promising to wait for our arrival. Pretty sure we were the only guests and stayed in a very nice bungalow with king bed and full bath. Everything was clean and fresh. Since we arrived after dark, we didn't really appreciate the surroundings until the next morning. Waking up to chirping birds, beautiful flowers and gorgeous views, we knew we were off to a great start for our Costa Rican adventure. Breakfast was simple but very good. We had to choose from three different selections the night before. Fresh fruit and a plate of rice and beans and eggs was a great way to start the day.
The lodge is located at the trail head leading into a rain forest and offers free access to hanging bridges which we did not take advantage of since we had a confirmed entry time at Tenorio Park 30 minutes away. Thanks to mytanfeet.com for the recommendation! Bathroom amenities were a bit lacking but plenty of shampoo, body wash etc in the shower.
- Marcille (7/5): Great nature, Ok hotel; ask for a bungalow if you stay there. - Location was beautiful. The hanging bridges were fun and interesting - we enjoyed our walk. Since we did not stay in a bungalow, I felt the price of 200 for a room that was very basic was overpriced when compared to other facilities. Make sure to stay in a small bungalow if you stay there.. better yet, stay somewhere else and pay for admission to the hanging bridges walk with a guide.
- Don (10/5): Great stay at the Heliconius Rainforest Lodge! - The staff was wonderful and the food exceptional! The 3 km hanging bridge rainforest walk was peaceful and Gerardo, one of the family/staff, pointed out a sloth that we would never have seen.
- Florian (8/5): Nice stop right in the jungle - Beautiful place, very nice walking paths with hanging bridges around the lodge.
The staff is very friendly and helpful. You should not come here without a rental car as it is a bit remote and the next location with stores is not too easily reached.
You should not mind a few bugs, as the accommodation is right in the jungle.
The breakfast and dinner do not offer many options for vegans.
- Janet (7/5): Nice place - Nice forest and location. No evening food, or at least never clear if there would be food or not.
Leaf blower noise for hours when trying to listen for birds.
- James (10/5): Private, comfortable accommodations with on-site access to trails and hanging bridges. - We enjoyed the dining room with bird feeders just outside the window - a great way to start the day. Although breakfast options were limited they were all good and we tried each of them during our stay. We also enjoyed our dinner options and the primary host, Katherine, was helpful in answering questions about local guide and excursion options. The trail and hanging bridge access directly on the property was great - unfortunately we had unseasonably heavy rains during our stay which limited our best use of them.
Our cabin was clean, private and comfortable with a lovely view from the deck.
- Michael (9/5): Superb - Lovely location adjacent to forest. Staff very helpful.
- Susan (8/5): Very good - Beautiful setting- beautifully kept grounds, great breakfast watching birds at feeder, comfy beds, dehumdifier in the room (yes it is damp in the rainforest), tasty coffee in room and at lodge, Night Walk w Jesse was awesome - so many cool frogs plus snakes and insects, friendly staff. Unfortunately the combination of weather and schedule kept us from doing the trails. Wifi didn’t reach our room (was very good at the main lodge), no hot water on 2nd day. (Minor complaint - mugs for the coffee maker in the room would be great - the cups provided were espresso cups.)
- Claudia (9/5): Superb -
- Stefano (9/5): Great stay around Rio Celeste in the nature - Amazing location including hanging bridges and wider park. Helpful staff. Nice rooms with view One night we didn’t have hot water
- Laura (10/5): Exceptional -
- Benedikt (9/5): Superb - The bungalow was very nice. It seemed recently renovated, the view from there - if weather allowed - was great.
Staff was nice! During breakfast one could see quite a few birds including tucanes.
The wald at the hotel ground with the hanging bridges in the woods was very nice, as was the guided tour to the laguna, even though it was very muddy and wet.
It was a nice stay! a few hooks for hanging towels or so in the bathroom could work wonders.
Also an air dryer that is a little bit stronger could help during wet season.
- Lori (10/5): Exceptional -
- Luisinha1993 (9/5): Superb -
- Maximiliano (7/5): Good -
- Tzach (9/5): Superb -
- Stubbins (7/5): Good - Amazing setting and views Restaurant was not open in evenings which was inconvenient given the location
- Wendy (10/5): Beautiful location - Absolutely loved our stay!! The staff were excellent! The grounds were impeccable. The hanging bridges and hike were one of the highlights of our trip!! The food was also delicious! We will definitely be back! We had some critters in our room at night. It's the rainforest and to be expected.
- Michaela (3/5): Beautiful location but bad / old property condition - Great location, ok-ish breakfast, very nice staff, nice hiking trail on the property; Rooms are not clean and standard rooms partly in really bad shape with dirt in the sink, dead insects in the bathroom, broken floor of the balcony and broken roofs with wholes where animals can come in - we had to change rooms because of fresh animal-droppings (snake) while being out for dinner, thus we didn’t want to sleep in a room
with a snake! 🥺
- Christine (8/5): very good - beautiful property
close location to Tenerio NP and small town to eat
nice breakfast included
As a guest, you can take for free a 2h walk though the rainforest with hanging bridges- very beautiful!
- David (7/5): Good - The first room they put us in DID not have air conditioning. But they agreed to move us to one of the two rooms on the property that did. Good service, Good room after we complained.
Beautiful place.
- Jan (8/5): Very good - Excellent overall. The staff was amazing. No air conditioning
- Julie (9/5): Superb - The location was amazing and unique, and we loved the trails on the property and all the wildlife, including listening to the howler monkeys
- Theresa (10/5): Exceptional - Bungalow and grounds were beautiful grounds , hiking was lovely and private, breakfast was the best we had in Costa Rica
- Keith (9/5): A lovely rainforest lodge with trails and great bungalows. - Located right next to a forest with 3 hanging bridges that were deserted early in the morning. Breakfast was very good, and staff friendly and helpful. Especially JJ. The website said the restaurant would be open during our stay. In fact, it would open only if enough people reserved ahead of time. Misleading.
- Hannah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ellen (10/5): A must see place in Costa Rica - This is a MUST stop on your itinerary when visiting Costa Rica. After visiting Volcano Tenorio National Park (Rio Celeste), we decided to stay in the area a couple days. The lodge's property has 3 trails - one of the trails has three hanging bridges. While hiking the longer trail, we took a little side trail called Rufus Trail and saw two tucans, lots of hummingbirds and big blue butterflies. The forest was magical and so green. The cabin we stayed in was GORGEOUS. It had a bathroom with a rain shower and the bedroom was so spacious. The porch had a hammock and other comfortable chairs. Breakfast was wonderful each morning (there were three options). All in all, I lovedddd this place.
- Anthony (9/5): Very nice - Room was great. Peaceful and beautiful view and surroundings.Trails are basically unmarked making it difficult to tell where you are during the hike, but Suspension bridges are great, interacted with a troop of white faced monkeys that seemed interested in our presence to the point that they were 10 ft or so away playing and checking us out. Def would stay again Need hand/ body soap in the bathroom
- Joe (9/5): We would definitely stay again. The location was perfect for us, the trails were excellent and the staff was very friend - The hiking trails on the property are very nice and well maintained.
Breakfast was great, made to order eggs, fresh fruit and great coffee.
Our cabana was nice, very clean. No a/c but the nights cool down. There was a security light that came on at dusk and shined very brightly into our cabana. Nice to have the security but it felt like someone was shining a strobe light into our place at night. Didn’t want to close the shades because we wanted to keep the breeze flowing. I would suggest pointing this down onto the property rather than into our cabana.
- Wolf (8/5): Very good -
- Albertus (7/5): Good - Special location right next to a primary forest. Service was very friendly and successfully helped to arrange activities. There was no dining availability the evening of our stay, that could have been pre communicated. The hostess helped us find another option though. Maybe the Booking, com payable commissions are high for these establishments and hence it increases the price, but the overall price of about 200 USD for a night was far too high for what it was.
- Karen (10/5): Wish the stay was longer. Will definitely be back. - Beautiful, relaxing bungalow with awesome hammock on the porch. Surrounded by beautiful gardens, mountain views with sights and sounds of nature. Hanging bridges trails provide great birding opportunities.
Staff are exceptional, welcoming and attentive to their visitors needs. Can’t say enough about their service oriented attitude.
And breakfast, lunch, dinners were amazing! Kudos to the chef for delicious creations!
- Carole (8/5): It was very comfortable except for the cold water. - Friendly, beautiful place. The food in their restaurant was delicious and plentiful! We had no warm water. I had to shower and wash my hair with cold water.
- Dietrich (9/5): Superb - Sweet and helpful staff, they even accomodated my partner's need for hooking up his computer for work in the restaurant. Wonderful spacious and breezy bungalow. Nice, full breakfast and good food overall in restaurant. We also loved the jungle trails that went right from the lodge.
- Chris (9/5): Superb -
- Granger (10/5): Wonderful location and experience -
- Antonio (7/5): Good -
- Michael (7/5): I recommend. - The accommodation's were good. It’s a little off the beaten path and rustic which was fine with us. The breakfast was good. The staff was friendly and helpful. The hiking trails and bridges were great and we saw an anteater on our hike. I would stay there again. Thank you!
- Hengwang49 (8/5): A beautiful small resort with good value - Though a bit drive off the main road, this property sits on the hill with a beautiful view. It also has quite a few trails to walk around. When sitting in the restaurants for breakfast, we saw many pretty birds come and go through the glass window, which is super nice. We stayed on Villa#1, it is all good, The bath room is spacious with the biggest shower that we ever seen. The bath room has floor-to-ceiling windows to see plants outside on the slope, still very private, unfortunately no much view, Note that there is no tub. Also note Google map pointing to its neighbor. It will be good to have a chair in the room. It can get chilly at night, but the extra blanket has some damp smell, not very pleasant to use. The night we arrived, ~6ish, for some reason, the restaurant was closed. But it is a hassle to drive down the hill to the town for dinner.
- Gail (10/5): Exceptional - Staff very friendly and helpful . The birdwatching was amazing . The meals were excellent .Our cabin was very comfortable and had a lovely view from our verandah.
- David (9/5): Loved our stay on this peaceful property in the rainforest - Birds at breakfast. Staff were friendly and helpful. Receptive to food allergy requests. Property is wonderful to hike and see natural surroundings. We enjoyed our night guided tour with Jesse. Very quiet and relaxing. Parking available. Our only issue was arriving in the dark and late (towards the end of check in window). We took a wrong turn and ended up at the owners house, more signage would have helped. We are also not sure what we would have done if we had not found reception before staff left.
- Dian (8/5): Wonderful- restful - This is a wonderful area for birding. We watch a sloth sleeping in a tree outside our room. The food was good Costa Rican fare and the staff were very helpful.
- Jannelle (10/5): Exceptional -
- Prudence (10/5): Exceptional - Good food and dinners were reasonably priced. Lovely view from our porch that was equipped with a hammock. No sign for lodge at turn off from main road.
- Bugbee (7/5): Beautiful location for bird watching, however, very expensive - Beautiful hiking trails, good breakfast, clean room with a hammock Ongoing construction, the property could use a renovation, expensive for what was offered, needed 4x4 to arrive to location
- Paula (10/5): Exceptional - The spacious comfortable room, the bird paradise, the hiking trails with hanging bridges. We watched many colourful bird species, most especially, a yellow throated toucan devour fruit while we ate breakfast. The grounds are well kept and teeming with hummingbirds. Lack of signage on route and just before entrance. A large sign that can be seen from the road would be very helpful, especially after dark.
- Jiangdong (8/5): Very good -
- Jennifer (10/5): Exceptional - The location was amazing, there is nature all around and hiking trails. The room was very comfortable and super clean. The breakfast was great and we saw toucans in the morning. I thought it was very expensive
- Annie (10/5): Exceptional - Loved this place, the staff were brilliant, so helpful and friendly. The hanging bridges were well maintained... and wow! Saw an assortment of animals and birds right outside the lodge 😁 Nothing
- Melanie (9/5): Superb -
- Lie (8/5): Very good -
- Julia (8/5): Very good - Very good location, they have nice trails and a lot of hummingbirds flying around the property. The rooms look nice. The breakfast was great. The facilities need some work, especially the hot water. It takes some fiddling with all the switches to get it to work.
- Christine (7/5): Great place to stay if you are interested in birds and walking in the forest! - Beautiful grounds with great trails and hanging bridges.
They arranged an excellent guide, Jesse, for a birding tour. Things were a bit dated and could be freshened up a bit, but still very clean and comfortable
- Estrella (8/5): Very good - Nice location. Very friendly staff. Good breakfast.
- Darielsole (10/5): Real Costa Rican experience - Everything.
Getting cozy in the nice and clean room and looking outside the balcony is medicine against stress. Was so in need of that.
Staff is welcoming and warm, go the extra mile to help and you really feel like you matter. REAL COSTA RICAN people. I will mention Walvin; but the maintenance staff are also fantastic.
I made a necessary request to the hotel regarding a health related issue and they really took measures and followed up. This is really extraordinary in my experience.
I wish all places gave that feeling. Let me think 🤔.... there's nothing I didn't like 😉
- George (7/5): Lovely stay at a beautiful location. A few minor issues, but lack of restaurant that served dinner was inconvenient and - Beautiful location, great birding trail and hanging bridges. Excellent frog chorus. No dinner available. A few a screens had some gaps. Small drip over bed during tropical downpour.
- Ray (8/5): Very good -
- Cindy (10/5): Book it!! So comfortable, beautiful! - Breakfast was delicious! Took a night hike! I wish we could have stayed longer. Everything was great!
- Helen (9/5): Great stop over - Great views. Relaxing. Nil
- Katharina (9/5): Nice, eco-friendly hotel - + great trails (free if you are in the hotel)
+ very friendly staff
+ nice property and garden
+ good breakfast
+ free parking, spacious room, nice balcony / porch - no Wi-Fi in three, just in the main area
- Steven (10/5): Exceptional - The trails & staff.
- Van (8/5): Very good -
- Donald (10/5): Amazing setting - Amazing location. We saw tonnes of wildlife, including a sloth and toucans in the tree right next to our deck in number 6.
Bed was super comfy. Could use a bedside lamp
- Alexander (10/5): I wish we could have stayed longer! - it’s amazing to stay right in the jungle. Toucans in the trees and beautiful flowers all around. don’t miss the hanging bridges or the delicious breakfasts don’t expect great wifi in the jungle
- Mari (10/5): Exceptional -
- Livia (9/5): Excellent food and views. - Great views trail at the property, well maintained nice garden,
excellent 5 star food beautifully decorated, friendly staff
You could see the bungalows were renovated. There was a nice balcony. Basic furniture the bungalows. too many beds in one room, not very cosy
There was no shampoo. Road was not easy to get there.
- Alison (8/5): Great base in Bijagua. - Room was spacious, clean & comfortable. I guess they put the big headboards in afterwards. Had to get to staff to help us find how to switch on ceiling fan - it was hidden behind the headboard! Shower was huge. Just remember its not a hotel & bring your shampoo/shower gel.
Great views, nice hike, gave us a taste of what the hanging bridges would be like. Breakfast was very good, dinner was not available but they had menus & ordered us food to be delivered. That was very good also. Just expect a very bumpy ride up to the hotel!
- Anna (10/5): Exceptional - the location and scenery was lovely, the staff really friendly. wished we had stayed longer
- Jocelin (6/5): Pleasant -
- Matthew (10/5): A sweet spot - Hilary was so accommodating and took the time to be friendly with us which takes a special person. Thanks for helping setup our sim card Hilary, it saved us a couple times after we left. This was our first night in Costa Rica. The view was incredible! That we couldn't stay longer!
- Alena (9/5): Superb - Arrived late at night and check-in information was left for us in the envelope. The last part of the road to the hotel is gravel, which is not a big deal. Completely comfortable to drive. The bungalow was private with a nice deck. The shower was awesome. Didn’t make it for breakfast so no comment about it. The trail with hanging bridges is a very nice addition. Would stay there again. Nothing
- Timothy (10/5): Great hikes and stay - Great stay. Small lodge on a private property in the rainforest 2hrs from the coast. Loved the trails and hanging bridges. Saw so much wildlife. Booked a night hike that was incredible. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. The dinner and breakfast meals were very good. Our cabin was very comfortable. Huge bathroom with rain shower. No AC, but not an issue with the screened windows and breeze. Slept like a baby after our night hike. Would stay again for sure. Thanks for a great time!
- Carol (10/5): Lovely forest walk. - Beautiful property. Up on the hill in the forest. We saw a Toucan as we were getting into our room. Lovely forest walk with three strong suspension bridges to walk across. About an hour and fifteen minute walk. Must drive on a dirt road for about a mile to get there. Not so bad, went slow. Lovely breakfast watching all the different birds at the bird feeder. No pool but lovely surroundings and very large cabins. We enjoyed our stay.
- Stacey (9/5): Superb -
- Stacey (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ryan (10/5): Exceptional - we loved that we could use the hanging bridge like whenever we wanted. breakfast was awesome. it was a pretty bumpy drive up the hill!
- Christine (10/5): A lovely little gem for nature lovers - Lovely rooms, comfortable beds, excellent gardens and well maintained jungle trails. Food was good. Our air con was not working and the fan in the room was quite loud. This may only have been a problem in our room and it was cool enough at night that it wasnt a big issue as our windows opened
- Noam (6/5): Pleasant - Beautiful views, including from the room itself. The lodge has its own hiking trails which is fun, time and bad weather prevented us from enjoying them. Our stay was extremely rainy and windy, and the room didn't insulate any of the noise. It also hurt us from enjoying the area. Obviously not the property's fault but it still wasn't fun. No hot water in the shower and bad wifi.
We arrived late and were told we can't have dinner because we didn't reserve it in time - nobody told us about this in advance, we would have reserved online given the chance. Front desk clerk was helpful in ordering in food from the town instead. We couldn't eat it on pur porch without attracting huge cicadas.
- Waleunam (8/5): Very good - We had 5 beds to choose from. Since thr restaurant was closed the staff was always happy to help with ordering food or lending us plates, knives...
During breakfast the staff fed the birds so we always had something to look at.
The trails and hanging bridges werr fun!
Parking stops were available. The roof leaked a little. We had to put a cup on one of the beds to keep it from getting wet.
The floor was a bit dirty (but the seemed to spray against insects, which eas nice).
