Guest Reviews
- John (10/5): - Clean and simple place to stay, the breakfast was great and the gym and pool were brilliant too
- Sarah (6/5): Carpet disgusting - Good points first: bed comfortable
Good breakfast
Shower hot
But the reason this gets such a low rating is the carpet absolutely stank. I saw it was new carpet in the hallways but the room carpets desperately need replacing. I tried dousing it with body spray to no avail, but it really marred my stay. I feel for the poor student that gets this hall in term time.
- Jone (8/5): - Hate parking,
- Anthony (10/5): - Very handy location, we were attending a Pendragon weekend, so was perfect place to still next to venue on campus, couldn’t fault it
- Barbara (10/5): - The only negative aspect of the stay was parking, given that you advertise free parking and the picture shows a large parking area. Otherwise a cute room with enough of what I needed for a night away. Breakfast was absolutely amazing, thank you all
- Sarah (6/5): - Long walk to carpark if you’ve had a long journey
- Lucy (4/5): Aged and not great! - The room was far smaller than appeared in the picture, halls are dated, bathroom is not well aired and not stocked even with a bathmat. Woodwork is peeling and room is stuffy, bed is small for 2 people and parking is unnecessarily far away when campus is empty. Breakfast staff and unfriendly and militant. Won’t be using services again and this is a shame as was really looking forward to experiencing campus and being so central.
- danielle (9/5): -
- Thomas (8/5): - No frills room but that was as expected. Excellent breakfast. Helpful staff. Parking not ideal but that may be temporary as some work going on.
- Rana (10/5): - It was a safe facility. The room was clean and organised with clean and fresh beddings and towels. Finding rooms was not easy.
- Martin (8/5): One night stand - Breakfast buffet was good. Countryside views were amazing. Very efficient check in / check out with very helpful staff Parking was some way from the halls on a hilly campus. Lack of parking near reception and it's not clear where to park prior to picking up a permit
- AndrewRH (8/5): Experience what your kids did at uni - On campus near graduation ceremonies. Fair price for convenience. Friendly staff. Clean No air conditioning but a fan is provided at reception if ask. Windows don't open more than a sliver. Exposed wiring on the towel rail.
- Guest (7/5): - Breakfast was great - best cup of coffee from a dispensing machine that I've ever had! Great choice and range of foods on offer; all very nice to eat.
All the university staff I met in hall and on campus were lovely - informative, friendly and helpful. If I'd asked for a moon on a stick, I felt that they'd have done their level best!
Even at the end of a very dry summer, the planting around the campus was lovely - a huge range of plant species including a whole host of (to me) very unusual ones. I'd have loved a botanical tour! Was very pleased to see seed heads left as food for wildlife too. The very worst thing was that nowhere on campus would accept cash which IS STILL LEGAL TENDER in this country. This meant that I couldn't pay for my own carparking - or eat anything except breakfast - during my stay ... There was no advanced warning of this.
- Graham (6/5): - Parking
- Chusana (8/5): - Staffs are nice Not convenient by bus
- Jenette (7/5): -
- Robert (10/5): - Reception staff were friendly and helpful. The room was very clean and comfortable. The check in was a little complicated because the building is on a hill so floor levels and room numbering took some getting used to.

- Kerstin (9/5): Gerne wieder - Sehr nettes und hilfsbereites Team, alles Tip/Top funktionell und sauber

- Guest (10/5): - First class breakfast , great choice , fantastic grounds for a walk Just a great stay , no complaints
- Sarah (10/5): - Great option for a low cost stay within easy walking distance of the centre. Free parking- reception will provide a pass to display in your car. Good, clean rooms with tea & coffee making facilities. Towels and a small bar of soap provided, but no shampoo or shower gel. Excellent breakfast with plenty of hot and cold dishes, vegan/ vegetarian options, juices, tea and coffee. Would definitely stay again.

- MD (7/5): -
- Kirsty (8/5): A good budget option. - Good price, location good, excellent staff, decent breakfast Parking wasn’t close, as work was being done so had to walk 10 mins from and to the car park through torrential rain.
- Christina (8/5): - Really liked it, very good value, except I lost a pair of earrings.
- Richard (8/5): - Quiet. Nice location. Good breakfast. Easy check in and check out. Having to park away from the hall. Poor car park signage for the hall.
- Ian (3/5): Wouldn't recommend - Good buffet breakfast. Nice staff. Basic student room with a cramped walk-in shower. Had a room with a view but had to ask for a change from a room that backed immediately onto the hillside. Inexplicable given the fact the hall was practically empty. Oppressive at night with no aircon. Steep access to the hall so not for those with mobility issues. Overpriced for what was offered.
- Calandra (8/5): - Easy check in process with super friendly staff. Area to leave bags before check in/after check out. Good sized room with a comfy bed. The free breakfast was great. The location is closest to Exeter St Davids station but the walk is almost entirely uphill
- Clara-Catharina (5/5): -
- Graham (10/5): - Basic yet comfortable accommodation. Nice buffet breakfast. Great views from the room and cafeteria. Able to walk into town. Makes a change from a chain hotel. It was all good. Only suggestion I can think of is replacing tinned tomatoes with real ones at breakfast. Rest of breakfast was delicious.
- Sarah (7/5): -
- John (10/5): -
- Richard (10/5): - Everything No dislikes
- Jeff (7/5): Lovely and clean but basic. Breakfast & gym are fantastic. - The breakfast was fantastic. The gym that is included in the price is fantastic. The rooms are very basic but they are spotless. The car park is not close to the accommodation. The nearest car park is small and the road leading to Holland House is very steep and if you have mobility problems then think twice.
- Sandra (7/5): Super clean room and comfy bed - Everything was incredibly clean and the bed was very comfortable The room was incredibly hot but the lady at the reception kindly offered a fan which we left in max for a few hours and managed to sleep comfortably. There were no toiletries due to the sheer amount of last minute bookings. The bathroom was not what we expected but considering these are student accommodations I supposed they’re ok.
- Eunice (10/5): - The buffet breakfast was excellent: there were wide choices to suit every taste. The reception staff were exceptional: we have seldom encountered such a welcoming, considerate team. They did all they could to ensure that our stay was enjoyable.
During our stay, there was extensive building work being carried out on the campus -which resulted in diversions and restricted parking spaces - but this was obviously a temporary problem.
- Susan (8/5): -
- Dave (4/5): - Mile long walk from the car park to the room. Poor value for money
- Russell (8/5): Fantastic Value for a short stay in Exeter - Great value accommodation and fantastic breakfast with free parking The walk from the car park was slightly further than I anticipated
- David (7/5): No - The view Room too small for a double bed.
- Ian (8/5): -
- Ian (7/5): -
- Roger (8/5): Typical no-frills student accommodation with a full breakfast to die for! - Excellent elevated location with extensive views over Exeter; ideal as an overnight transit stop. Inadequate convenient car parking.
- Vicky (8/5): Breakfast was great, parking and location were all good - Location as we were there for grandson’s graduation. Disabled shower room was a bonus and parking, as my son is a wheelchair user. Small rooms were very basic, tea/coffee facilities left a lot to be desired given the room was for 2, only had enough to make 1 brew each. Beds not very comfy.
- Guest (8/5): Good stay, and will book again. - The two staff on reception were fantastic. They had not been told about a large number of bookings, they had to do a lot off additional admin, with a large queue of people but dealt with it very well. The car parking is a long way from the hall so the venue is not really suitable for anyone with mobility concerns. Please remember that staying at a University Hall will be a different experience from a hotel or B&B. So don't expect a TV in the room or shower gel and shampoo, bring your own. This is not a criticism but just advance information.
- Katrina (8/5): ok place to stay - breakfast was good room was clean and ok no real facilities, room was basic
- Rosa (6/5): Good enough for a couple of nights but very basic. - Beautiful location surrounded by the countryside.
Room clean and nice and efficient staff.
Not the best quality breakfast but good enough. Basic room, warm and no air conditioner. Windows could be opened but compromising my privacy.
Very basic towels and toiletries. Just a small bar of soap.
- Martin (6/5): -
- Jordan (8/5): - This appears to be a dorm handling guests when there are no students.
Possibly due to construction, it was a bit of a puzzle to find the building and then to find the reception desk. There was no outside signage at the entrance that I found.
Checkin was easy.
The facility is several buildings; it was perhaps a one-minute walk across the courtyard to our building.
There are staircases but there are also lifts; it was not necessary to use the stairs.
The rooms are basic but clean and comfortable. (Nothing to sit on but a desk chair, though.)
I don't believe they gave me WiFi information, but there was a fairly obvious open network that worked fine.
Parking... well, there's parking that's a one or two minute walk from the reception entrance, but if that's full (as it was on the Saturday of a bank holiday) you park in a larger lot that is about a half-mile walk from the buildings, so more like a ten to fifteen minute walk.
Breakfast was cafeteria-style, simple but good: cereal, fruit, eggs, sausage, bacon, breads, baked beans, mushrooms, juices. It's served downstairs from reception, so again a minute or so walk between buildings, plus two lift rides.
- Kirsty (10/5): - clean, tidy and quality rooms and accessible to the town and good buffet breakfast
- Yussif (10/5): Really good place for the money - It was good for the money paid. The breakfast was better than a lot of 4* hotels The bath was so tiny
- kieron (7/5): -
- Ian (8/5): - Staff were good, breakfast was really good. Room was clean and comfortable No internet in the room and very steep hill climb to get there
- Leigh (10/5): Fantastic time, great location to explore Devon. - Location was fantastic and the buffet breakfast was delicious. Lots to choose from, constantly refilled, kitchen and dining room spotlessly clean. There was nothing I didn't like.
- Sliteris (7/5): - Breakfast
- Lawrence (6/5): -
- Joan (8/5): Great breakfast and a lovely view from the dining room. - Good location and parking arrangements. It was helpful to have a fridge. The blackout curtain was very effective. It would have been helpful to have more than the basic amount of tea/ coffee /milk as it was only enough for 2 cuppas!
The room was very hot!
- Rachel (7/5): Lovely location for visiting the university and the city. - Great location, stunning views, smooth check-in and out. The mattress was a bit too hard for me personally. Also the shower temperature didn't change when turning the dial - so it was hot or off basically.
- Ian (10/5): - Great breakfast and stunning views , overall a good experience, will be back. Thank you all … Ian
- Julia (8/5): Beautiful location, however very basic for the price. Very overpriced considering it is a university and not a hotel - Beautiful location, amazing breakfast Very basic, no TV,
- Miny (6/5): -
- Heath (3/5): Disappointing, B'n'Bs cost the same and are frankly higher quality. - Breakfast was good. The room was baking hot at night, there were huge house spiders. I know it's a student dorm, but not exactly to commercial standards, yet B&Bs in the area charge the same for what I imagine is better. Plus due to construction works a massive walk from the parking to the car.

- allan (5/5): The breakfast was just lovely just a wonderfull good Aussie breakfast. Your staff are amazing Than. - Great nothing Nothing
- Lawrence (6/5): -
- Colette (9/5): A very good stay for folk staying near Exeter. Great price. - Comfortable. Easy to get to. Great price. Great breakfast. A little too far from sidmouth festival .The pool was further than expected.
- Chris (8/5): Great accommodation but parking and instructions were very poor - As expected. Clean and functional Parking was a nightmare. The instructions were awful. I spent 45 minutes driving round trying to find where to park.
- Ian (10/5): - Liked common areas to eat and socialise which were spacious. Did not like the closure of the dedicated nearby parking when no building was taking place. The reception staff were responsive and helpful when there were any issues. Some noise from other guests around 1pm. Excellent views and free facilities eg sports. A really enjoyable stay for 50th anniversary alumni - thank you all.

- Guest (8/5): -
- Thanh Huyen (8/5): -
- Christoph (8/5): - I found it a bit annoying that the window in my room could only be opened a bit. I don't understand why for security reasons windows cannot fully be opened (in what is essentially a 1st floor room)
- Guest (8/5): Really great value - Good choice of breakfast and plenty of seating
- Hastilow (7/5): - Great breakfast Good low cost stay
- Anita (7/5): We were staying for our son's graduation & were so impressed with how organised the staff were. - We were very impressed with our room. It was clean, comfortable & quiet. The buffet breakfast was fabulous. N/A
- Carolyn (8/5): -
- Helen (7/5): -
- Sharon (8/5): -
- Andrew (8/5): -
- Gary (4/5): Bearable if your attending a graduation. Avoid if not - Good location for a graduation stay Very noisy rooms, very hot with no way to cool it down. Breakfast was very poor. Cost £100 and while that is cheaper than other Exeter accommodation, it’s still £50 more expensive than it should be.
- Jamie (4/5): - The tap water gave me a horrific stomach, definitely not safe for consumption (despite no signs to the contrary) and the breakfast was mediocre at best.
Shower was inconvenient, the curtain just sticks to you because its like 60cm away from the wall.
- John (8/5): “Just as good as a hotel”. - Wonderful view!
Not a long walk to the city.
Includes a full breakfast as well as parking. Lifts to some of the blocks.
Some spectacular trees around the campus. Some of the roads lack pavement for pedestrians at least in part.
- Debora (8/5): It was goo - the room was good, very quite and clean. The breakfast was excellent. The WI-FI was strong but unsecured and the instructions to make it more secure did not work. This means I could not do all the work I was supposed to as I needed to handle material that needed a secured WI-FI I wish the WI-FI was secured. Also, when I arrived I found only one small bar of soap and no other toiletries. I had to go to reception to get toiletries.
- Carolyn (9/5): Comfortable room in a University hall of residence - Good room and quiet environment (outside term-time) in parkland setting with parking not too far from the entrance. Good staff and an excellent breakfast. It was difficult to find Holland Hall, even with the description; a map would have been good. The site is sloping and turning round in some parts of the site was difficult after having taken a wrong turn.
- Kelly (6/5): Probably a bit over priced for how basic it is - Was great location for going to graduation Rooms were hot with not great facilities and could be cleaner
- Tracey (8/5): -
- Jolene (8/5): - Would be nice if the windows/doors would open to allow more cool air to enter during the evening/night. Gets very warm in room with no a/c.
- Helen (8/5): -
- Beksinska (10/5): - great place and very reasonable, helpful staff and lovely breakfast nothing that its open in all holidays!
- silvia (8/5): - Colazione buona e varia a buffet
Struttura universitaria con terrazza panoramica Camera e bagno essenziali ma puliti
Comodo per chi ha la macchina
- Adriana (5/5): Not worth for money. - It was very clean I booked this property for 2 adults and 2 teenagers and I have to say that beds were a small double and it was very difficult to sleep there, so I do not think 2 adults can fit on one bed. It really didn’t worth. Also they advertised a swimming pool which is 15 minutes walking distance. So it’s not really on the site. I was very disappointed about the place. Booking should not suggest that one room is enough for 2 people. Breakfast traditional english breakfast buffet otherwise not much choices.
- colin (8/5): Great Location - Breakfast was excellent. Staff attitudes were top draw. Great location. No toiletries, 1 piece of soap. Not great value for nearly £200!
- Kathleen (10/5): Great location, decent size and clean rooms. Friendly staff. - Good location, clean room and excellent breakfast.
