- Martina (8/5): Liked the lobby erea and breakfast era. It has a launch y feel and they play cool jazz music - Fabulous Breakfast
Friendly and helpful stuff
- Judith (7/5): Good - Very good breakfast, different each day, cooked to order Bedding is rather hot.
Steep steps at entrance
- Hung (9/5): Superb -
- Dylan (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing breakfast - quite substantial!
The host was lovely and make sure we were happy and had what we needed. Bed is extremely comfortable !
- Demetra (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ian (8/5): A quality hotel with lovely staff in a fabulous location - Great location - walking distance from the river and the temple area and also a short walk to the main shopping area in Kyoto. Also, there are lots of small restaurants close by which offer a great choice of quality food. Lovely staff. The manager is very helpful and he speaks excellent English. We booked an upgrade room which was large by Japanese standards. The room had everything we needed including a small fridge and kettle. Also, there’s access to a washing machine and tumble dryer. Don’t be put off by the 2 star rating this hotel is more like a 4 star hotel in my opinion. For our 2 night stay we had a Japanese style breakfast on the first morning and a more western style breakfast in the second morning both of which were lovely. I’d happily stay again. Only tea in the room - no coffee.
- Caleb (10/5): Cozy clean room with an excellent breakfast. - Breakfast was great and unexpected. They made a full unique meal each morning that was delicious and filling. Great way to start the day. No menu, they just bring out the breakfast, so check the day before if you have dietary restrictions.
- Sean (10/5): Very relaxing and convenient all-around! - Attentive staff, great accommodations, excellent breakfast, laundry facilities on site, fresh towels daily. No issues!
- Rochelle (9/5): Lovely small family run hotel in the heart of a big city! - Minato hotel is a small family run hotel. We were greeted by a delightful, extremely friendly and helpful staff member (son), giving us all information needed for our stay. The owner was helpful and accomodating throughout.
Breakfast was “yum”, a range of breakfast foods were served, well presented and delicious.
The bathroom was clean, and had good shower pressure.
Would recommend this hotel and would stay again. At different times during the stay we could hear the guests in next room, however this was not a problem for us.
- Klaudia (10/5): A great, cozy hotel! - The room was clean, the staff was very polite and friendly and they could adapt to our needs (for example vegetarian friendly breakfast, ordering a taxi). We really liked a different breakfast every day, also that some days it was more traditional, Japanese breakfast and sometimes more western-like. All the meals were very tasty. Shower gel, shampoo and other cosmetic items were available in the room as well. There was no clear way of opening the windows.
- Oliver (10/5): Exceptional - Our stay at Minato Hotel was nothing short of lovely. The room was very clean and tidy, and there's enough space for us to sprawl out a bit. The daily breakfasts were out of this world! Everything was delicious, the portions were sizable, and you get a wide variety of types of food. Plus, it's served within moments of you coming down the stairs and sitting down, and it comes with tea or coffee. The staff was super attentive, kind, and helpful. They helped us make a reservation at a restaurant that required us to make a phone call in Japanese, they helped research options for disposing our broken suitcase, and they offered to do our laundry and folded everything up neatly - all while being super patient throughout our attempt to bridge the language gap. The location is in a quiet neighborhood about a 9min walk from Shijo, the main street with all the hustle and bustle, which we didn't mind because even within a block or so away from the main street, you couldn't hear the noise anymore, and it felt like an escape from wild city life.
- Luke (10/5): Exceptional -
- Laura (10/5): Wonderful - Location, small and quiet. Great breakfast! Nothing
- Alexander (7/5): Good - spacious room
comfortable bed and pillows
good shower and furniture
breakfast included cold overhead lighting and noticable marks on the carpeted floor of the room ruined the first impression
the mirror above the sink hanged to low, and no lamp in front of it
a wall behind the window, though this is normal
no service after 8pm (once I tried calling the provided phone number late evening with no success)
- Brent (9/5): A small but welcoming place - Excellent breakfast. Very accommodating staff. Great location. Wifi didn't really work in my room. It worked fine on the main floor area though.
- Kathryn (10/5): We loved our stay and found little fault. We asked if we could use the washing machine but the staff said they would was - It was in a great location, very clean with an amazing breakfast served everyday. The staff were lovely and friendly. The pillows were small but when we asked for extra pillows they were left in our room.
- Chiara (9/5): excellent - clean, giant room (for Japanese standard) and super comfortable bed. the hotel is near the main road where is the subway entrance and 10 minutes walk from the train station. the hotel offers a bike rental service.
Nice and friendly staff. Everything was great, fresh breakfast, different every morning. breakfast time should start earlier
- Yufei (10/5): Amazing hotel - This was an amazing hotel, it was at a good location and the owner is super nice and kind. The room and bathroom was spacious for Japanese standards as well. The owner helped me with a lot of travel requests and was very hospitable. The breakfast was honestly the best breakfast I’ve had in Japan.
- Brooke (10/5): Exceptional -
- Doug (9/5): Superb - Really nice people. Fantastic breakfast. Good location. Really liked kyoto, great place to spend some time. Nothing.

- Judith (9/5): Superb -
- Rodriguez (10/5): The rooms are spacious. The bathrooms are clean and spacious. The vocation is wonderful near the train near cheap restau - The property is very clean and very pleasant Everything is wonderful. I have no complaints.
- Dean (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely staff. Excellent breakfast. Good place to stay. No complaints at all.
- Julia12340 (9/5): Superb -
- Timothy (10/5): 4night stay as part of a self planned tour - Very god room & facilities. Staff very helpful and when we tried and failed to use the washing machine they did our laundry for us and declined payment. Lots of very small restaurants nearby. Short walk to bus stops for easy travel to tourist sites. Nothing, would book again.
- Alexander (8/5): Very good - -good location right next to the Nishiki market
-very good and sumptuous breakfast, is prepared individually for each guest so no buffet and you can make requests
-Room was very clean and comfortable -wifi was not available in my room, it may be necessary to improve this with repeaters on the hotel floors
- Dawn (9/5): Superb -
- Jeanie (10/5): Exceptional - The hotel is small and really central to everything. The staff are lovely and go out if their way to help. The breakfast is just fabulous.
- Jeanie (10/5): Great little quiet hotel. - The staff are friendly and very helpful. The breakfast is amazing and different every day. The room is large and comfortable. The area is very central yet quiet. Great cafes and shops nearby. Kyoto station and nishiki market equidistant. I loved staying here!!!
- Jen (10/5): Incredible - Absolutely everything! Perfect room and perfect breakfast Nothing!!!
- David (8/5): Very good - Location great. Laundry service is great for longer stays. Staff are incredibly friendly, accommodating and helpful. There was a strange smell in the bathroom all the time.
- Natalia (10/5): I really loved staying at Minato Hotel - I really loved this hotel. The staff are really friendly and they help a lot. The location is really good, and the breakfast is amazing! I didn’t want to leave.
The room is small, but perfect for 2 people. Super close to Kiyomizu-dera and the train station.
- Aurélien (9/5): Superb -
- David (10/5): Exceptional -
- Marcel (7/5): Good - Friendly staff, very big and diverse breakfast plates. The room has everything you need.
The location was very good: Centrally located, in the middle of a quieter area, not in the middle of tourist masses. Good coffee spots close by. There were still hair from previous guests in our shower - the room was not as clean as we are used to from Japanese hotels/standards.
Some areas of our room looked a little old and could use some renovation.
It might be because of Kyoto & high season, but we paid too much for what we got (in comparison to other accomodation around Japan) = not good value for money.
- Ellen (9/5): Superb -
- Verified traveler (2/5): - My room was in a very bad condition, it did not match the photos at all. In addition, the air condition system was working poorly which makes you freeze as the room lacks proper isolation. Front office availabe late afternoon only and not able to communicate in English. In my opinion, a rip-off considering the price. Would definitely neither stay there again nor recommend the place
- SS (8/5): - Staff very helpful, location not good, 10mins walk from bus station or subway, if your baggage not heavy, it’s ok.
- YOSHITAKA (8/5): - 案内表示が無くホテルの位置が分かりにくかった。でも、受付のお兄さんの対応が良かったです。
- Jason (10/5): Stop Looking - This hotel is In a perfect Location, 5 min walk from train station & 10 min walk to some of the best shopping and restaurants in Japan.
The room itself is very spacious the biggest one we stayed in in Japan, it’s spotlessly clean and has everything you need.
Best of all are the hosts they treat us like Family.
Stop looking it’s a great place at a great price
- Verified traveler (10/5): - 想像以上に部屋が綺麗で清潔感に溢れていてとても快適に過ごすことができました!シャワーとトイレが別なのも良かったです。
- Mohamed (10/5): Sweet place - Nice place and nice person on charge , very kind . 😊
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Mixed feelings about the hotel. We booked because of the positive feedback about the complimentary breakfast and service. There was no breakfast for expedia customers and the service was medium. I am pregnant and my mom is a bit older. IT would have been nice if the person behind the desk would help with the luggage or even just open the elevator. But he just gave the key and thats iT while the elevatordoors we’re closing very quickly. The room is big and you do get free water, thats very nice and the location is great!!! So these are great pro’s. You can walk around Kyoto and return to the hotel by foot and feel safe :)
Unfortunally there was a dirty cutton bud on the Floor in our room and the roller blind in the shower was broken so people could look into the Bathroom. They tried to fix iT with Some tape with no succes. The internet in the bedroom didn’t work either so that was dissapointing.
The builing looks cute though but if we had to spend the same money again, we would choose a different hotel.
- Javier (10/5): Relaxed vibes... - Very nice hotel. Close to the station. Has a cafe that is vegan/vegetarian. Dogs welcome. Minimal modern feel and look. Loved our stay. Everything was in perfect condition.
- abby (10/5): Clean and cozy - Room was clean, a little cozy, not much room for luggage storage. Large bathroom.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - nice
- David (10/5): Exceptional Hotel - The Minato hotel was a highlight of our trip. It is conveniently located, has all the amenities, and the breakfast is the perfect way to start the day. The bed was very comfortable and the shower was nice and warm with good water pressure.
The staff were an unbelievable resource in navigating Kyoto, were always so kind and helpful. Their recommendations time, and time again, led us to restaurants and activities that became favourites of the trip.
Would love to stay here again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Would stay again! - This hotel was a great find, with only 7 rooms in total you really get a personal service. The staff are lovely and will go out of their way to help you. Free breakfast is an added bonus. The rooms are nicely decorated and a fair size with a nice modern bathroom. The hotels location is central Kyoto, 20 min walk to Kyoto station and around a 20 min walk to imperial palace.
- ian (10/5): A perfect choice - The hotel is ideally situated to explore Kyoto. It’s also in a residential area and you really get a feel for daily life.
The hosts can’t do enough for you. I shall certainly return when I’m Kyoto. Thank you.
- Tom (10/5): Great design + superb service - We had a great stay. The manager could not have been more helpful, the rooms are beautifully designed and very comfortable and the complimentary breakfast was great. Within easy walking distance of Nishiki Market and a bunch of great restaurants. I can't recommend this place enough.
- Roger (8/5): Small but good hotel with friendly staff - Minato is tucked away on a Kyoto side street but close to busier streets with amenities, although restaurants and bars close to hotel. The room was small but comfortable, like many Japanese hotels. The bathroom was very good. Koichi, the hotel manager, was very kind and helpful. Overall, a very good value.
- Penny Han McKenzie (6/5): Minimal-themed - Walkable distance to the surrounding train stations and bus stops. The room is very clean and furnished with a minimal theme. The walls are pretty thin so if you have noisy neighbours, good luck (: The staffs are friendly and helpful.
- Dean (10/5): Fantastic experience - Will definitely stay again - We had a fantastic stay at Minato Hotel and would highly recommend it for anyone looking to visit Kyoto. The staff were extremely helpful and kind, and went to great lengths to assist us in organizing our day-to-day activities. The location is central and convenient (close to food, shops, bike rental etc). The rooms are modern and very clean. Breakfast offered includes Western-friendly dishes, as well as traditional Japanese sets. We will stay again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It was a pleasant stay and the room was spacious and the bedding was nice. The room was bigger than most hotels in Japan! Breakfast was really filling and nice. Also, the staff went out of their way to personally walk out on the streets under the rain to get us a taxi! Which is super nice of them!
- Gary (10/5): Good location; big room; great decor; great staff. - Title says all. Good value. This place is so cool it could be in Austin. Excellent Japanese breakfast. Don't miss this hotel. Close to subway and to train to Inari shrine/temple. Excellent restaurants and bars surround it. Short walk to Nishki market--do not miss that, either.
