Guest Reviews
- Alessandro (10/5): -
- Dorottya (9/5): - It's a nice and quiet place to stay in Port Douglas, close to the beach and shopping areas. Facilities were good and well maintained, although they ask about 20AUD to purchase your own plate and cutlery if you want to eat there. There is no staff on site, you need to call the team for any questions and check in via an app. They were helpful and quick to answer to solve any issues. Overall, it's a good value for money and would be happy to stay again.

- BODEGA (7/5): -
- Florencia Belen (9/5): Recomendable - Muy lindo y comodo
- Lauren (7/5): - Private room was comfortable and spacious. Location was good. Lots of long term residents staying here, the kitchen was always quite messy from people not washing up/putting away their bits after cooking.
- Airton (7/5): -
- Jason (4/5): - Didn't think it was very clean. Room was small. Check in was crazy as our phones would not work and no one to talk to. Worked out there was a sister hostel and they were great sorted us out in no time. Can't rely on phones to check in guys. overpriced considering all the other better places we've stayed at in the last 3 weeks in Oz.
- Katie (8/5): Very good - Overall very clean, and our room was very spacious! We had an issue with the booking due to being overbooked which was sorted out so quickly by staff and they were very apologetic and accommodating!
- Karla (10/5): Exceptional -
- Peter (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dmt (8/5): Very good -
- Gaia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jess (5/5): Hostel has a lot of potential with the facilities available however the lack of staff and upkeep of the property didn’t - Great location and communal tv available. Good number of hob rings for cooking in the evening. Comfy mattresses. Virtual check in, no staff seen for the whole four days that we stayed. As a result, very dirty and everything that could have been broken in the bathrooms was! Very loud rumbling at night in one of the 10 bed dorms, which could still be heard through noise cancelling headphones (presumably from the kitchen below at Rattle ‘N’Hum).
- Temenuga (8/5): Very good - Location is great. Good lobby. Self check in. Not enough sockets in 10 bed dorms, there are not sockets for each bed.
- Maria (8/5): Very good -
- Bianca (7/5): Good -
- Emanuel (7/5): It was fine considering the rate - Bed was comfortable
Good location Poor cleanliness in the bathroom
Key system could be more efficient and easier to work with
- Megan (8/5): Very good -
- Ilse (1/5): Bad - The location was perfect Everything else.
A disgusting hostel.
- Facundo (7/5): Good -
- Prearo (9/5): Superb - Living room Smocking area
- Quelli (4/5): Avoid unless you want to be woken up at 1am every night - The location was very central. Didn't enjoy my stay.
The place had no reception so you have to walk to their other hostel to check in which is fine however they have a number to call if you have any queries but then they failed to answer the phone twice.
The hostel was quite dirty. The bathroom seemed like it wasn't even cleaned and the room floor was dirty. The bed was ok tbf. We had 3 terrible nights sleep as people were being so loud at night in the common area. I understand it's a hostel but I just got the vibe everyone there just had no respect for others.
- Monique (10/5): Exceptional - Awesome atmosphere. Great location. Awesome staff.
- Nicole (1/5): Dismal - Good location right on the main street. Aircon in the bedrooms were very cold. Hard to locate, entrance is down an alley in the smoking area of the bar downstairs. No staff at reception they only work from their sister hostel down the road. No one to tell you about the area or recommend any activities. They have combination lockers but they're only for long term stays, otherwise cages under the bed.
The big problem was the long term residents. This hostel is mostly live ins and it makes you feel super unwelcome and uncomfortable. People sleeping on the couches, watching tv in the lounge for 6 hours straight, leaving their things in the common space as if it's their house. The entire fridge is taken up by their food and no space for groceries. Rooms are messy with people living full time in them they spread out and fully move in.
Aircons were very loud. Bathrooms were dirty. Kitchen was dirty. Front door was always unlocked, and people leave dorm rooms propped open, so security was non existent. Key cards were on an an app and worked about half the time. Not that you needed them since doors were always open.
- Maria (7/5): Good for a big group of friends - It was very well located. Right in the middle of everything. It had no one at reception (they work from another hostel) and it was a hassle having to do the check in and getting an app to acces a virtual key for the room.
There were only 2 showers and 2 toilettes (at least for women) + the disable one. The showers could use a different structure, more comfortable to put your things.
It would be nice to also have outlets, shelf and light for every bed so that at least you can charge your phone and have it with you, and light so that you don't need to turn on the main light to find your things.
- Thanh (1/5): I paid while checked in by phone call with hotel operator by Australia Card. I also got an alert email that this propert - Good location Noisy and dirty
- Maria (7/5): great location - great location, kitchen fully equipped (maybe not always cleaned), ladies bathroom clean, big bedrooms and spacious living room, where the kids gather to watch the telly and chat. Maybe the staff should be strengthened as I waited a little bit for the checkin when I arrived. The kitchen should be cleaned more often. not many shelves and hanger to put your stuff on.
- Alberto (5/5): Cheap stay. -
- Aisling (4/5): Disappointing -
- Catalina (8/5): Very good - Amazing location, it’s clean and quiet.
- Felipe (8/5): Very good - All good
- Sarah (9/5): Superb -
- Ernesto (9/5): Superb - Location
- Nati (4/5): Disappointing -
- Zachary (10/5): We would book certainly recommend for backpacking backpacking into Cairns. - Free upgrade on room
Backpackers vibe was nice
Helpful services
Free bike rental
- Felipe (9/5): Superb -
- Felipe (9/5): Superb -
- Erin (6/5): average - the location dirty, only two showers and two toilets
no charging facilities in room
no staff at front desk ever, have to go to other hostel to check in and get your card! Ellie was lovely but another lady was rude and sarcy
the kitchen made me feel sick cooking in there
- Terrence (10/5): - Great staff.
- Gonzalo (8/5): Its a good place and cheap. -
- Gracie (8/5): Great location with plenty of space. Strange with no staff. - Amazing location, right in the centre of town easy walk to everything. Large bathroom with great showers. Large spaces with plenty of room Dirty kitchen. no staff on site, had to walk over to port Douglas backpackers for blankets and give credit card details over the phone.
- Jayy104 (7/5): Good -
- Joseph (8/5): Very good -
- Ryan (8/5): Very good -
- Melisa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jona (5/5): Passable -
- Lorinda (8/5): Good for a short stay. - The Aircon was clean which meant healthy clean air in the room. The bed was comfortable. Although the Aircon was clean it was loud. The bathroom was dirty and needs air circulation as very hot in there and no windows. The room needed a decent clean. No convenient power points in the room or in the common area.
- Guadalupe (8/5): Very good -
- Olivia (6/5): Pleasant -
- Lennart (8/5): Very good -
- William (6/5): Pleasant - good Aircon in rooms, kitschen was okay no aircon worth mentioning outside dorms, restrooms where to hot to use. no staff, they told us they’d be at the other hostel our first day and then we saw them about once shortly every day.
- Jeffrey (10/5): Exceptional -
- Caleb (8/5): Very good -
- Georgina (8/5): Very good - Adjustable temperature panel for air-con in room. Blinds shut out a good amount of light. Central location, and only a five minute walk to 4-mile beach. The road outside wasn't at all noisy. Hostel was extremely understaffed, so the room and bathroom could've been much cleaner. Also, there are clothes horses to hang your washing in the back outside area, but that is also the smoking area. Would make more sense to dry clothes in the front outside area where smoking is not permitted.
- Volkan.tg (7/5): Good -
- Jak (8/5): Very good -
- Patricia (6/5): Pleasant - The hostel is situated on the main street where all the shops are but you couldn't hear the noise.
There were only two showers and toilets for the ladies but it never was too busy. It worked that every person cleaned after they used the kitchen. :)
Toilet, shower and kitchen got cleaned every day.
Info: I guess most of the guests were staying for a long term. Just be aware of the seize of the dorms as they are quite big (10 beds).
There was a window missing in my room and with two airconditions on full power, not very eco-friendly..
- Ivan (7/5): Good -
- Timothy (9/5): Superb -
- Thomas (3/5): I did not like it at all - Good spot, pillow seemed brand new. Garbage cans were not emptied for 3 days. 3 of the 4 ceiling bulbs do not work. Kitchen was pretty dirty so was the patio area (see pics) No storage room so my bag was accessible to everyone behind the reception at all Times. The staff has to do the checkins from 2 different hostels! Had to wait a lot for my keyroom. The 2 girls i met from the staff were really nice, they dis their best but you can see they feel sorry for you! Oh and the people in the room didnt want me to close the door. So everytime i would close it they would open it again and put a piece of wood to make it open again ! So anybody could have access to m'y room and stuff! Never seen that before o_0 Donc go in this Hostel! People that run this place should change work !
- Allie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alice (7/5): Great value for money in awesome location - Great location, nice open airy common area. Nice linen. Good dinner deal at pub next door. Rooms were spacious and facilities clean.
- Adventurejas (7/5): Good -
- Victoria (10/5): great place to sleep - the people that i can not book more nights
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Location was great. Room had an ensuite. $95. Very unclean, pillows and mattress protector badly stained, clean top sheet stains, cobwebs even near bed, smelly entrance and room, rusty noisy fans etc
- ilaria (8/5): Comfort stay - Friendly staff and great location
- Catherine (10/5): 100% recommend - To start with, Port Douglas is SO beautiful and I highly recommend visiting. My partner and I are frequently using hostels and Global backpackers is definitely up there with the best. The check in was smooth and Clara was really efficient. She gave us a quick tour and the hostel has good space to chill as well as a good size kitchen and amenities. Laundry was cheap and the hostel also offered an amazing Meal deal for the bar next door (great food too). Our room was a double with an en suite which good air con and a TV! The bed was comfy, although slightly short for my 6'2 partner but we managed fine and it didn't effect his sleep. We ended up staying an extra night and would 100% go back. Thank you!
- Isabel (10/5): Would stay again! - Very clean, spacious dorm room. Hostal is centrally located which is nice to get out for a walk. Would definitely stay again if ever back in Port Douglas!
- Rose (4/5): - Handy to the main shopping area with limited parking but the cheapest ensuite accommodation we could find. Value for money but the communal kitchen is not kept clean by the guests who use it, so dishes pile up before staff come to clear up. Guests seldom wiped up the cooking area. Most of the guests seemed to be permanents on work visas.
hotel bruyant apres minuit
Seul interet ; hotel tres bien placé
- Verified traveler (8/5): Auberge sympa - Auberge de jeunesse sympa, localisée idéalement dans Port Douglas, cuisine bien équipée, personnel accueillant !
- Brian (10/5): Clean, well located backpackers - It’s a backpackers for sure, but we booked a double room ensuite. Came with towels and bedding, just bring your own soap. Well equipped shared kitchen, super close to al ost everything. Great discounts and meals at Rattle’n’hum resto downstairs. Clean and well cared for property, friendly guests.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Busy hostel in centre of town - Overall a good stay but lots of little niggles. Slightly broken facilities, lack of plug sockets and more passive aggressive rules signs than I have ever seen before! Staff are really good and always helpful - they are the highlight.
- Kylie (8/5): Great location, great staff - My friend and I stayed only 1 day but it was great. The staff was very helpful, and friendly. Our room was clean, well managed with good air-con system. Also, the location is very good, close to many stores and restaurant, and to the beach:) highly recommended
- Anne (8/5): Good budget accommodation - Good accommodation at budget price. Only downside was free wifi didn't work an we had to pay for wifi.
- sonia (10/5): Great location - enjoyed it
- Verified traveler (8/5): Cheap and convienient - Just need a cheap room for the night. Great for short stay
- Carmen (10/5): Great value, exceeded expectations. - We stayed in a double ensuite room while in Port Douglas for the night. The hostel and the room far exceeded my expectations for backpacker style accommodation. We (early 30s couple) chose to spend extra for a private room with an ensuite as my shared dorm days are well behind me. This was great value for money. The room and bathroom were clean, air-conditioned, not cramped, TV, comfortable bed. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone looking for cheap and cheerful accommodation in Port Douglas.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great location friendly staff - Beds were uncomfortable but the staff assisted with extra pillows and towels when needed. Very friendly staff which helped allot with queries.
- Gina (6/5): Excellent location, 5 mins walk to 4 miles beach - Simple room with great location . It is handy to have all shops and restaurant around.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Very central and nice backpackers - The hostel staff were extremely friendly and informative. Very central. I was able to check in earlier which is always good when arrive to a destination and just want to chill for a bit. Big screen tv in the lounge, great facilities. only problem is the $15 deposit for cutlery but you get it back anyway. I'd stay there again :)
