- Verified traveler (6/5): - Positives: Location is perfect, steps away from the heart of town. Love the "Book the Beach" program where they set your chairs and umbrellas up for you at no cost. Occasional free extras, like food trucks on certain nights - we had a taco truck one night while we there, and they offered two free tacos per person. Negatives: Room could use a good update - furniture and bathrooms seemed musty. We are a family of 4 and couldn't find any options for 2 queen beds so we went with a queen + pullout couch which was like sleeping on rocks. The blinds do not shut out any light, you are up with the sun. Other than the occasional food truck or event, there are no other amenities like coffee available, no place to purchase food or drinks. Would have loved a bar by the pool, or even something as simple as a water pitcher. You need to walk into the town for anything unless you brought it yourself.

- Adrian (8/5): - PROS: Fantastic location - easily walkable to all downtown eateries/bars, shops, and attractions. Very quick check-in which you can begin through an online link they text you in advance. My particular unit (twenty two) was recently renovated and featured stainless steel kitchen appliances, elegant bathroom fixtures, and USB charging ports everywhere. It had an amazing oceanfront view w/ a patio. Also, the a/c’s were very modern with touch sensitive control panels and very quiet operation. CONS: Only two and, again, may only apply to the unit I stayed in. The main one was the mattress was hard as a rock. Not pleasant to sleep on and which was exacerbated by the second issue - the bedroom blinds didn’t do a great job keeping out the light. So, by 7am it was quite bright in the room.
- 970maryannp (2/5): CANCELED ROOM --- 2 Weeks Before Trip - 2 weeks before my stay, the Surf Club called me to tell me they were canceling one of the nights of my trip because the room I was staying in needed renovations. TWO WEEKS BEFORE! We were traveling with children and friends were also staying at the Surf Club where we planned this entire vacation... After speaking with someone on the phone, they were not accommodating at all. They gave me no money off my stay for the inconvenience. No compensation at all for the inconvenience. Nothing. The gentleman on the phone told me "Listen, I am giving you a COURTSEY call. My manager told me to just cancel your entire trip overall and you would've just gotten a cancellation email. We are calling as a courtesy". HA! Now our friends were staying at the surf club, and we were forced to find a different hotel for TRIPLE the price of my original payment for the surf club, last minute. This was SO unprofessional - the Montauk Blue next door said they have a rule where the owners CANNOT do renovations if the rooms are booked since it is not fair to cancel people's vacations last minute. STEER CLEAR of this place if you want to actually have peace of mind about your stay. Also, the rooms were really dirty this time. The floors felt so icky.

Each unit, individually owned, carries its own distinctive style—some freshly renovated, while others retain a more dated charm. Compared to nearby beachside resorts, the Surf Club exudes a more upscale vibe while maintaining a family friendly atmosphere. Upon arrival, the meticulously maintained grounds immediately caught my attention. Every morning, I observed staff diligently cleaning the paths with blowers, ensuring the property remained spotless from the beach to the parking lot. It was evident from the moment we arrived that the owners take immense pride in the resort’s upkeep. From the first day, it was clear that the resort was bustling with families both small and large, with children of all ages. Although check-in was scheduled for 5 p.m., we were delighted to find our room ready and waiting for us at 1 p.m. -Room Description- We stayed in a 1-bedroom duplex unit that offered both comfort and convenience. The main level featured a compact kitchen equipped with an apartment-sized refrigerator, freezer, microwave, cooktop, and coffee maker. Utensils, plates, bowls, mugs, and glasses were all provided. A small table with four chairs sat adjacent to the kitchen, making it easy to enjoy meals. With no restaurant on the property, the kitchen made mealtime a breeze. The resort is very walkable, so returning to the unit for a break from the sun or to grab a snack was always convenient. The living room included a sleeper sofa and a flat-panel TV, with a sliding glass door that opened onto a deck. The deck featured a lounge chair, a table with chairs, and an umbrella, perfect for relaxing outdoors. Upstairs, the bedroom offered a queen-sized bed, dresser, nightstands and a closet. It also included a separate sink and vanity area—a thoughtful touch that allowed someone to use the sink even if the bathroom was occupied. The bathroom itself was well-appointed with a large, glass-enclosed walk-in shower that provided ample hot water. Navigating the stairs with a large, heavy piece of luggage posed a bit of a challenge, so if stairs are an issue, it might be worth asking the resort for assistance. I’m sure they’d be willing to help. -Service Quality- The staff at the Surf Club worked tirelessly and were genuinely helpful. They clearly enjoyed their jobs and went out of their way to ensure our experience was exceptional. -Dining Experiences- Though the resort lacks an on-site restaurant, it offers dining options for guests on select nights during the summer season. On these designated evenings, dinner is complimentary for resort guests. During our stay, one night featured a pizza truck that churned out a variety of fresh pizzas for an hour and a half. Another night, the resort hosted a farm-to-table BBQ on the pool deck, serving fresh salad, quinoa salad, hot dogs, burgers, and chicken sausages. They also offered Montauk Brewery beer and local wines. Both evenings, everything was complimentary and absolutely delicious. In case all that wasn’t enough, Friday night there was a happy hour welcome party for weekend guests with live music. -Location- In my opinion, the location of the Surf Club Montauk is ideal. Staying on the beach in Montauk with the convenience of walking to town is a perfect combination, and the Surf Club’s location delivers both effortlessly. Here is an idea of the resorts proximity to some well known landmarks in the area (*these times are all walking distance): The Plaza: 5 minutes John’s Drive-In: 9 minutes Puff & Putt Mini Golf: 11 minutes Shadmore State Preserve Trail: 17 minutes -Amenities- The resort offers some great amenities that made our stay more enjoyable. The pool deck at the center of the resort is outfitted with cushioned lounge chairs, tables and umbrellas, creating a comfortable space to relax. The heated pool is kept at the perfect temperature (we like it warm), and towel service is provided for added convenience. On the beach, chair service is available, and each evening, the hotel sends a text with a link to a website where you can request the number of chairs and umbrellas you’d like set up the next day. This hassle-free service made our beach days effortless and was one of the key reasons we chose the Surf Club this year. Some other nice features were the two hard-surface tennis courts and a fully equipped gym with free weights, a rack, treadmills, and even a Peloton bike. One night during our stay there was a PG-rated movie shown on the lawn out by the pool and the next morning a yoga class was being offered outside. Whether you’ve visited Montauk before or are a first-timer, bonfires on the beach after dusk are the perfect way to end the day under the stars. The resort makes this easy by allowing you to request beach chairs for your bonfire. You’ll need to bring a stainless steel tub, firewood, and a water bucket—essential to avoid a fine—but the setup is otherwise taken care of. -Overall Experience and Highlights- Our stay at the Surf Club made for a wonderful 4 days in Montauk that our family won’t forget. Its beachfront location, proximity to town, kitchenette, beautiful property, heated pool, towel and chair service enabled us to wind-down and enjoy quality family time for a few days. We look forward to returning.

We will never stay here again.

Loved the unique bi-level set-up of the unit with the living space and full kitchen on the first floor and the bedroom and bathroom on the second. The room decor is circa early 1990s; however our room was very clean and our shower had great water pressure. The hotel seems very well run and efficient. The staff is very courteous and friendly. The layout of the entire facility is great with a fantastic swimming pool and deck and great bathhouse. They have an electronic system that makes life more convenient, like a beach chair and umbrella reservation system so that you can book things the evening before. The “keys” to rooms are also via an electronic keypad so you don’t ever have to worry about finding your room keys. Staying at Surf Club was an unintentional discovery (we normally stay at a neighboring resort, but they were fully booked for the dates we wanted.) However, we are so happy to have found Surf Club and are planning many more stays here! Things to consider: Parking at the resort can get crowded or dicey during peak hours.

The property is blessed with a convenient location and boasts a well-structured design, featuring clear signage and an ample number of trash receptacles that ensure the premises are always clean. What I found impressive was how immaculately the grounds were maintained, reflecting the high standards of the resort. To keep you refreshed during your stay, the resort has thoughtfully provided easy access to vending machines offering a variety of cold drinks. When it came to recreational activities, I had a great time playing tennis. The swimming pool was a delight, being not just clean but also free of any overpowering bleach smell or slippery surfaces that are all too common at other resorts. The water was at a pleasantly warm temperature which further enhanced the experience. The resort's location is advantageous, being in close proximity to numerous restaurants that can be reached with an easy walk. A visit to the beach is made even more enjoyable thanks to the ample chairs available. What made my experience at the beach unforgettable was the friendly and proactive staff who were always at hand to ensure everything was set up perfectly. I wholeheartedly recommend Surf Club Resort to anyone visiting Montauk. It is the perfect blend of great location, excellent amenities, and remarkable service. A true gem on Long Island!

- WeloveCarib (4/5): Love the Place but Units in Terrible Condition - Peeling paint; dirty chairs; a dead wasp on the outdoor table upon arrival; lack of a railing a safety issue for families; no chest of drawers to put clothes in; faucet broken upon arrival (impossible that house keeping did not see this); screen taken out of deck to be fixed and not returned prior to our arrival..to name a few problems with a 500-600 square foot unit pricing at over $1000 a night (unit 78, so if seeking beach front unit avoid this one!!). Still it is about 20 feet from the beach so location balances this out. You have to really love it here to tolerate the quality. There is a table with four chairs but no room to sit in the chairs on either side as they are jammed between counter and sofa.

Everything about our stay was lovely! The staff was friendly and responsive, the room was gorgeous and clean, there was more than enough parking to accommodate us, and the location was beyond perfect. Staying right on the beach and then being able to walk pretty much everywhere was great. Maybe it was because it was early in the season, but the pool was not over-crowded at all as some of the other reviews have said. I would definitely stay here again!!

- joebN6824TE (4/5): High price for shabby accommodations - We went out midweek for a two night stay, and it appeared that we may have been the only guests. The unit we were assigned - “lucky?” 13 - was at the far west end of the complex bordering a beach access road and overlooking an outdoor storage area. This area, viewable out of our side window, contained an assortment of items, including wood scraps, lounge chairs, tables, and a wheelbarrow full of water. Fortunately, the view of the ocean out the back was much nicer! The inside, while clean, was desperately in need of updating and maintenance. For example, the carpeting alongside the bed was ripped, the paint on the bathroom vanity was chipped, the bathroom window screen was full of dead bugs, the vertical blinds (some of which were different sizes and turned the wrong way) should have been left back in the 1970’s, and the bathroom heater was covered with rust. While we were there we noticed that several units near ours appeared to be under renovation and were disappointed that for the price we paid (just over $500 a night in the off season) they couldn’t put us in a unit that already been updated. We have stayed here in the past for both the location close to town and the view. Unfortunately, this experience - especially considering the price - was a huge disappointment and on our next visit, it’s safe to say we’ll be trying someplace new.

We absolutely loved looking at the water each morning and listening to it at night. We even saw a whale jumping out of the water from our bedroom on the second floor. The staff was very accommodating and we really appreciated the fact that they placed our chairs and umbrellas out on the beach for us in the morning. No more lugging all of our belongings onto the beach by ourselves. Highly recommend this place!!
- Pmarus78 (2/5): AVOID THIS PLACE - If you want to pay penthouse prices for crackhouse accommodations, the Surf Club in Montauk is the place to go! My family and I arrived to our assigned condo late Friday night (9/10) and were appalled with the condition of it. there was no railing on the stairs, mold everywhere, the walls were peeling, the outlet looked like a fire waiting to happen. It was clearly not what we reserved. I go to the front desk to complain, and the woman in front would do absolutely nothing for us, saying all the rooms were booked (a lie, since there were rooms available online), she said she would send the maintenance guy to see what can be done. This was ridiculous since he would be able to do nothing. Side note, their staff shows up to our condo, unlocks the door and walked in with no announcement or any masks on, despite the website saying how serious they take their COVID protocols. I said we can’t stay there since my daughter and wife were already having breathing issues, and the woman said she sees no child listed in the reservation, which I then show her on the confirmation email on my phone. She gets flustered and blurts out “WELL IT ISNT HERE”. I demand to speak to the manager and get him on the phone, but she would only text him (a clear sign they screwed up and didn’t have the sack to say that to me). Another couple comes in and as I am talking to the desk lady, she blows me off like I’m some ham-and-egger, which really aggravated me and my wife who I have on speakerphone to voice her opinion. I asked the couple how much do they enjoyed the mold scent in their place, and said the entire place infested with it. Finally the woman says they will refund the money and cancel the reservation. As soon as that happened, we packed the car and I drove back to NYC, with the weekend plans ruined thanks to these con men. Then the office “happened” to close when before we left I wanted something in writing about the refund. To be fair they did refund the money, which is the only honorable thing they did in this matter. All they had to do to keep my money was: -move us to another room even if it cost extra for the bigger spots -try to move us into another hotel they own (their parent company has a few in the area) This is probably one of those places that prey on dummies from the city. I bet since the email we used has my wife’s maiden name in it (a Spanish last name), they chose to treat us differently than if I used my name, which wouldn’t shock me. Avoid them at all costs.

It was right on the beach so that was amazing and it was also two blocks from town which was also a plus. Had a nice patio on the back and a kitchen which allowed us to bring our own food. The beds needed work, they were extremely uncomfortable. Check in and out was effortless as they text you a code for access and send you a link for check out. When staying in Montauk for peak season all of the hotels are pretty much the same, if you’re looking for a basic place to stay this one is suitable. You can walk down the street to some of the other hotels if you want more of a vibe and a scene for a drink, but overall there was nothing really wrong with this hotel at all. Did the job.

- andrea (4/5): disappointing stay - I've stayed at the Surf Club many times in the past and had a good time. Unfortunately this time was horrid. The woman covering the front desk did all she could to rectify the problems but was limited in authority. The accommodation was not a 2 bedroom. It was a 1 bedroom with a loft. There was not closet in the loft. The closet in the other bedroom was inaccessible if you were over two feet tall. It was more of a cubby hole. The unit was obviously under renovation since there was white paint stripes on the walls, light switch covers that did not cover the holes, the switches were filthy. There were hooks in the wall where art used to hang. If you sat on the couch, you fell into a hole that was difficult to get out of. I paid for a two bedroom oceanview and they tried to move me to a one bedroom with no offer of reimbursement for the difference in fees. Upon arrival to the unit,there was trash piled outside the entrance. I was told there was no housekeeping staff to clean another 2 bedroom unit so we could be moved there, but when the housekeeping staff came to remove the trash from the front door, I inquired and was told, of course there is housekeeping staff available. No one likes being lied to. When I questioned the front desk, she told me very apologetically, that it was out of her control. I plan on never staying there again after dozens of previously wonderful visits. The manager of the day was at fault and could have easily rectified the problem.
