Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great Stay - We loved this place in Ollantaytambo. Our items were picked up by the hosts free of charge at the train station and we explored on foot until we arrived at the home later in the day. The home is spacious and well maintained with a large patio and great views of the city. Catta was flexible with our needs and held our bags until we left Ollantaytambo in the late afternoon. I would highly recommend the stay to any group of friends or family visiting!
- Naveen (10/5): - My stay at The Dona Catta in was very pleasant and I’d highly recommend a stay here.
The room and en suite were very comfortable clean and pleasantly decorated and the hotel lounge and kitchen area were also very pleasant spaces to spend time in.
The hotel location was very good – it was near enough to Ollantaytambo main square and ruins to be convenient (few mins walk) but not close enough that noise was a problem.
I was made to feel at home during my stay with the hotel owner Catta and her family being extremely friendly and helpful in taking care of my needs and also sharing their local knowledge and advising on the local attractions – they were also very pleasant to converse with.
Ollantaytambo itself was also a beautiful and peaceful location for a stay being extremely pleasant with a substantial local ruin site next to it and with beautiful views of the Sacred Valley.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The property was conveniently located. Catty and her son were friendly and helpful. I stayed the night before the Peruvian borders were closing and the staff helped me to secure a taxi to the airport last minute. Breakfast consisted of eggs, ham, cheese, bread, jam and butter, fruit, coffee and tea. The room was a little loud and cold; however a space heater was provided and the blankets were sufficiently warm.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Central location. Reception lady advised us of where to go what we could do in our limited time. Very helpful. Breakfast was fantastic
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very knowledgable manager giving lots of advice and suggestions. Quaint little hotel
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Hotel made our breakfast to go
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The hotel is very close to the ruins and the Plaza. The person at the front desk was friendly and extremely helpful with information.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Dona Catta is close to Ollantaytambo historic sites and markets. The property is clean and well maintained; staff is helpful and friendly. Being close to the action, the street noise can be a bit loud at times. Otherwise, it’s convenient and comfortable.
- Natalie (10/5): Great place to stay in Olly - Great place, close to everything you need, friendly reception, extremely responsive personnel, heaters, hot breakfast, WiFi. Luggage storage area is available before check in and after check our.The only issue we had - very firm bed.
- Rani (8/5): - Breakfast was great. Staff were excellent. Hot water and toiletries were available.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Front receptionist made us pay at checkin and added $5 for using a card, not happy about that. No hot water in sinks. Hot water in showers but lady told us not to take too long in showers.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The owner is very attentive and helpful, we enjoyed our stay and will come again. Do not hesitate to stay here, very good hotel.
- edna mara (2/5): - comentei anteriormente
Recomendado
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The staff are wonderful and give excellent recommendations. Location is very central but retains relative quiet.
- M. (8/5): Good layover spot! - This place is perfectly suitable for a lay over night in Ollantaytambo. If arriving at night note it is off the main road over the bridge and not well signed. Only working ATM in town is a Global Net, ie: exchange rate nightmare. Clean, friendly, loud in the mornings, basic.
- Susanna (10/5): Cozy hotel - Dona Cotta was an awesome hotel, located right down the street from the square and also a street from the train station, making our trip to Machu Picchu seamless. Renato, was extremely accommodating and gave us great suggestions for things to do during our short stay in Ollantaytambo. The room was clean and well kept during our stay. We'll definitely be staying again!
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Last minute notice as we are checking out that they can’t take visa or credit because their system is down. However, the actual truth from a hotel staff it’s been down for three months or so. Room is noisy if your by the street level as the windows are single pane. No hot water in the sink to wash your face. Breakfast was basic. Hotel felt more like a hostel . Disappointed compared to other hotels we stayed in Peru.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The staff was very friendly and helpful and the location was great, near to the central square and several good restaurants. Furnishings were basic and the WiFi was pretty strong. The breakfast was fruit, juice, eggs (scrambled or fried), bread and jam, and coffee or tea. They also supplied plenty of water and coca leaves to help with the elevation. We stayed for 5 nights and explored the Sacred Valley sights. Ollantaytambo was a nice town to use as a home base.
- joan (10/5): Simply Perfect ! - Nice room , lots of hot water . Front desk staff , Roger ,is exceptional . Roger is very knowledgeable about the area as well as his country . The hotel is in a great location .
- Don (8/5): - We stayed at the Dona Catta Inn for one night. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful throughout our stay.
We took advantage of the hotel's service offerings and amenities: having our laundry washed on-site and booking a private tour of the Sacred Valley through the owner Kati (sp?). Both of these services were extremely convenient to do through the hotel.
However, they were both more expensive than they would have been otherwise if we had shopped around for a laundromat or solicited a taxi for the tour ourselves. This is not a criticism of the hotel and its staff, just an observation that may be helpful for future guests. We recognized that we were paying a premium for having these services handled for us -- and we were on vacation looking to relax!
I would certainly recommend the Dona Catt Inn to someone staying in Ollanta.
- Estelle (10/5): - Hotel staff is very informative and hospitable. Gave us a lot of information on where to eat, go even beyong Ollantaytambo. Tea and snacks.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - From the moment I arrived, the staff were so friendly & helpful, I really felt welcomed. The location is great - from the rooftop patio you have a nice view of the ruins. The last time I stayed in Ollantaytambo, I chose a hotel that was a long way from the Plaza and I had to carry my bag over the cobblestones as cars can't make it up the narrow streets. So, I would highly recommend this hotel just for the location alone. The room was warm at night and there was a heavy comforter on the bed that kept me warm during the night.
- nancy (10/5): - Very comfortable family style Inn, helpful staffs, the hot shower is excellent!! Room is fair sizes, there is roof top access with some views; location is good, very close to Ollantaytambo ruin and the main plaza is only two blocks away. One big plus is they provide hot boiled water for tea and cold filtered water for drinking, so you don't have to worry to get bottle water for the day trip!
- Stephen (10/5): Charming Hotel - The breakfast we were offered fruits, eggs and bread (there was cheese and ham also). As for customer service, from the moment we arrived the owner was kind and generous, offered us a choice of rooms. The guest services personnel were warm and caring. We did have issues with the wifi, however for a small town I was simply grateful they offered this amenity. We both have Claro data sim cards, with great reception anyways so spotty WiFi signal could have easily been addressed. They had issues with their payment system due to internet issues (who hasn’t had their own intertnet issues?) which is out of their control and I see it as no fault of theirs. To rectify they offered different options of payment, and we ended up paying by US Cash - in hindsight i should have paid via hotels.com in advance instead of paying at the hotel. The rooms were clean and well maintained. Hopefully others see it for its charm and have an enjoyable stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Review of stay - Nice facility. Bed was incredibly hard. Conveniently located.
- William (10/5): We enjoyed our peacful stay at Doña Catta - We stayed 2 nights at Doña Catta as a way to explore Ollantaytambo before heading on to Machu Picchu, and we had a wonderful stay! Upon arrival we were greeted by Steven, who was very welcoming and helpful by providing details about the town's amenities, transportation, sights, food etc. He even packed us our breakfast to go the following morning since we were heading out early to catch the train to Machu Picchu. The hotel and rooms were simple but clean, safe, modern, and very well-kept, which was all we really needed since werent going to be spending much time in the hotel. There was a pretty good wifi signal, and the breakfast provided by the hotel was satisfying. The location turned out to be ideal too, because it was right in the town center--close to everything--but on a small side street, which made the nights peaceful and quiet. My only (minor) complaint: the mattresses were extra firm, which resulted in a sore back each morning! Some people dont mind firm mattresses but I wasnt used to it. Overall, I would recommend staying here if you plan to spend some time exploring Ollantaytambo and the surrounding areas
- Lisa (8/5): Great Find - We stayed at this hotel the night before our Inka Trail hike. It was great to stay in Ollantaytambo and get an extra 1 1/2 of sleep, plus the town is quite charming. This hotel was a good value and the staff was very friendly and helpful making us a bagged breakfast since we had an early check-out. The hotel is located between the ruins and the square with plenty of options for dinner a few minutes away. The hotel is basic, plenty of hot water and very clean - met our needs.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Comfy beds in a quiet area - Bed was very comfortable, room was clean, shower had lots of hot water, and location was quiet. Rooms very greatly so make sure to check out the room first. Staff wasn’t very helpful in providing recommendations, but that seems the norm in the city. Breakfast was adequate. Overall would definitely recommend
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Clean ,well located, very good and friendly staff. They are continually working on improving the facilities and experiencee with their hiring of an American manager
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very attentive staff, and very clean Hotel. I would stay here again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Lovely little Inn in the best location - This great little has all you need when you stay in Ollytaytambo. First of all stay in Olly...don’t rush off to Macchu Piccu , this town is full of charm, you feel so safe and welcome here. This is also the way Catta, the owner makes you feel as a guest too. She and Stephen who works with her are so friendly and helpful and really went out of their way for us. They locked up our bags when we were gone for 2 days, gave us directions, even drawing us maps, giving us recommendations, offering us support (taking our cell phones for emergencies), making sure our horseback riding trip was safe, and even arranging transportation for us in Lima. They are around the corner from a couple great little cafés including her own Café Del Abuelo and the amazing Inca Fortress!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Just off the Beaten Path - Just off the Beaten Path by the river. Nice, and quiet, nice place to stay overnight and do a bit of star gazing.
- Vincent (8/5): Basic accommodating with excellent staff. - Average property with exceptional staff. The accommodation is basic (no Tv) but clean. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are clean. What made or stay hear was the staff, very friendly and helpful. The breakfast is very good. I would stay here again because of the people.
- MARIO (10/5): - Friendly staff, excellent breakfast, close attractions and train station.
- Peter (10/5): - Lovely host and good location
- Verified traveler (10/5): Quaint and good deal - The staff was amazing. The room wasn't much, but it was clean and perfect for the price. Our balcony had a great view of the mountains and the fortress. There was no TV, which was fine because we really only slept in the room anyway. This hotel is located right next to the fortress and only a short walk to the main square. Perfect location on a quiet street. The breakfast was really good especially considering the low price of the room! I would definitely stay here again!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Simple, but clean and convenient! - This little guest house was conveniently located to the train station, the ruins behind the town, and the town itself. The hotel staff were also friendly and they provided helpful
Information about Ollantaytambo and the nearby Machu Picchu. The guest house was very small, quiet, and clean. The private bathroom in the room was small, but it had a toilet and a shower with hot water. The hotel staff provide complimentary breakfast of eggs, fruit, bread, and coffee or juice. The bed wasn't super comfy, but given the price and location to everything, it's a great place if you're looking for something simple.
- lise (10/5): Nice quiet hotel away from the noise - We ended up staying at Casa Abuelo for a week while we visited Machu Picchu and other activities. The Hotel is away from the big crowds and noise of the center square. Kati, the owner, was more then helpful from getting us advise on tours to booking out Machu Piccu tickets. She was absolutely amazing in every way ans would recommend this place to anyone.
- julio (8/5): Cathy or Kathy was great, very helful, - For the price and for a short stay is good, do not expect nothing expensive, just the minimum,
- juan (10/5): Nice clean centrally located - Staff was amazing, breakfast was great and better than advertised, staff went above and beyond at every request, room was clean, right in the heart of downtown, amazing view of Inka ruins from hotel balcony
- Lauren (10/5): Great budget stay - This is a great little hotel for budget travelers. The location is fantastic, right by the ruins and close to all the action, but without being in the middle of traffic. Service was wonderful.
- Sharon (8/5): - Sweet family run guesthouse with comfortable beds.
- Naing (8/5): - It was great! Room is clean, wifi works, TV and hot shower! Nearby tours, taxi and colletivo at plaza. All walking distance to ruins, markets and resturants.! Everyone at the hotel was so nice and helpful.
- World Traveler (8/5): Cozy, nice place for short stays - Good location, cozy room, very well attended by attentive staff
- Verified traveler (8/5): - We stayed two nights, one before Manchu Picchu and one after. The office staff were very helpful and accommodating, even packing lunches for us the day of our hike. Our room was very comfortable and clean.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Staff were very helpful in providing information about tours and transportation. Also they helped with recommendations for local restaurants.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Comfortable stay, 5 min. walk from train station - We visited Machu Picchu during rainy season (Feb.) so we took a train from Ollantaytambo to Machu Picchu. I recommend this way of doing it. If you go from Cusco during this time, you will need to travel 4+ hours one way. Staying in Ollantaytambo is a nice middle point. There are restaurants and a little town center that you can visit, plus many residential streets you can walk through.
- Eli (10/5): Private room at really reasonable price! - 5 min walk from main square where buses drop you off, shops and restaurants.
3 min walk to catch a tuc tuc to train station or you can walk which would take 10-15 mins.
Clean and all amenities that you need for a night or two. Manager/owner was very friendly and helpful even packing my breakfast for me as i had to leave early the next morning. She even offered to store my backpack for free all day whilst i did Machu Picchu and returned later that evening.
- Pon (10/5): The closest Hostel to the Ollantaytambo Ruins - The hostel is owned and run by amazingly hospitable Katty. We stayed for only one night but if we had known better, the stay would have been longer. Katty recommended us to "Veronica", a restaurant close-by, which offered one of the best Peruvian culinary dishes we had in the trip!! No need to mention, but the Ollantaytambo is only a few steps away.
- Stacy (8/5): Great value for your money! - I really enjoyed my stay and would recommend this hotel to anyone. The staff is so friendly and helpful, the breakfast was delicious, and the hotel is in a central location.
- Mabel (8/5): Enjoyed our stay and love it ! - Comfortable bed, Good shower with sufficient hot water !
Breakfast is good !
Highly recommended !
- Sunil (8/5): Good Value - Good value, walking distance to the station and the ruins
- andrew (8/5): Convenient, - The front desk was amazing with us
- Verified traveler (10/5): Close to the bridge - Great location! Close to ollantaytambo, the train station, the plaza de las armas. Good price. Excellent breakfast
- Sophie (8/5): - The hotel staff provided us with packed breakfast to go for our early morning train trip to Machu Picchu - wonderful!
- Verified traveler (6/5): Good but cold - The hotel is good overall. Close to the center of town, the train station, and most importantly the ruins. There was no heat so we were cold at night and the electricity was not working in the morning.
- Nadim (8/5): Good value access to Machu Picchu. VG location. - Stayed here two nights out of a three week trip to Peru.
Good value - right on the Ollantaytambo ruins.
- Lisa (8/5): Perfect Location And Price - This is the perfect place to stay as a base to see Machu Picchu as it is 20 minutes from the Ollyantaytambo train station. It is also 10 minutes to the main square and 5 minutes to the town ruins. Rooms are basic, but all you need, and they are clean. I visited in Peru's winter and, unfortunately, my room was very cold. Breakfast is included and it is fine. The wifi is fast and consistent. The town of Ollyantaytambo is absolutely charming and a good place to acclimatize when you first arrive in Peru. The hotel can arrange a taxi from the airport for you. They also will arrange tours of surrounding points of interest.
- Fernando (8/5): - Very good place near town center on return from Maachu Pichu
- Lisa (8/5): Great! - The owner lives on-site and is very attentive. The location is excellent. It is a very short walk to the center of town. What is nice about the location is that it is on the river across the pedestrian bridge. Rather than noise from town you hear the sounds of the water. It is very close to the ruins and the train station. I recommend it and would stay here again.
- Peter (6/5): Nice 3 star hotel right by the ruins. - The owner was great and everything was as expected. Nice breakfast, comfortable room.
- James (8/5): Great little place to stay in the Sacred Valley. - I loved our stay at Casa del Abuelo. The staff were courteous and extremely helpful and knowledgable about all the activities in the area. They helped us book a guide for the day that took us around to all the interesting areas in the Sacred Valley. The breakfast they served every morning was delicious. I highly recommend staying here if you're planning on staying in or around Ollantaytambo.
- Amanda (10/5): Recommend and would stay again!! - We were late arriving and they held our reservation no problem. Clean, friendly, hot showers. Helped us with info on restaurants, taxis, and even a hotel in Cusco. Packed a sack breakfast for us when we had to catch an early train. I recommend them and would definitely book here again! Thanks for a great visit!!
- Mike (10/5): Lovely little B&B with great view of the Inca site - Perfect place. Small, friendly, and clean. The breakfast was fantastic! Definitely would stay again.
