Dale (2/5): Take my advice, book elsewhere. - This place is run down and disgusting. It is the worst place I have ever stayed and I paid too much. I had a function at Fort Scratchley and this was the closest. It looks good in the photos and you could book city views or ocean views. Don't do it, there are far better places in Newcastle to stay. This is embarassing for Newcastle.

The room carpet needed vacuuming, previous occupants had eaten noodles! There was a shard of glass in the bed that cut a foot! Won’t be staying here again!

Sent an email, no reply until 6pm, I found a phone number and I was on hold for ages but was finally sent the codes at 3pm. Room smelt like an ashtray. Beds and pillows were comfy and clean. Most surfaces eg the table, tv stand, bathroom sink and tub were dirty. Walls are very thin and you can hear people talking in the next room. I wore earplugs and I could still hear the tv next door (after 11pm). Location is good, not too far from public transport. If you want a quiet clean room, don’t stay here.

I would go again. Access via codes was very easy for us who are older!

Bed was horrible, could literally feel every coil spring in the mattress, bathroom looked like it had been pulled out of tiny seventies caravan with trim coming apart. Carpets stained. Crockery and cutlery missing. For the price of the room it should have been $70 - $80 lower per night to match the quality. Staff on the phone were friendly.

Verified traveler (4/5): Never Again - the room did not look anything like the picture on the web. kitchen contents consisted of two mugs, one beer-glass and one water glass! walls had large areas of decay and random patches of plaster; the artwork (picture) on the wall was torn; the overhead light did not work and the airconditioner was rusted. the bed was actually two single beds pushed together but they did not have the same height so there was a ridge in the middle. the ads for the hotel listed a bar and restaurant which do not exist (on phoning the number for help we were told they had been closed for TWO YEARS!) Similarly the advertised breakfast did not exist! Parking was exorbitantly priced. The promised sms pre-arrival did not give all three of the correct access codes -- we had to ring for help. help staff try hard but as English is not their first language they have difficulty there was no information of any kind in the room at all , no local facilities, no emergency details, NOTHING! This is the second time we have stayed in Newcastle where the hotel is obviously being taken over and managed by an offshore company and the information available to guests is inadequate if not misleading. In future we will stick to reputable hotel brands

The worst things included the Wifi not working, the elevator not working (dragged my suitcase up 3 flights of stairs), the lack of hot water in the shower, and the fire alarm going off at 3.30am (for no good reason). I doubt if I would stay again.

Verified traveler (2/5): DINGY! - This was the dingiest place we have stayed at in years! Stains in the floor, furniture, walls, tub, sink…everywhere! The place is threadbare and a complete rip-off for what we paid. Bed was hard as a rock. Somebody definitely smoked in our room before we occupied it…cigarette butts on the balcony. Don’t waste your money staying here…we left at 5AM just to get away from the place.

Michael Godfrey (2/5): - Possibly the worst hotel I have stayed in. EVERYTHING in the hotel is in need of replacement. There is no way they should be charging $165 per night for such poorly maintained accommodation. I will give credit that the linen was clean but..........really!

Rob (2/5): - The condition of the property is dreadful. The reception area is boarded up, the air in the hallways is stifling and the temperature hot, the carpets and bathrooms need a thorough vacuum, the furnishings are minimal, damaged and in need of replacement, the shower curtain dirty, the code for the front door wouldn’t work and the code for our unit didn’t work when we arrived. There is no reception. We felt thoroughly disappointed but had prepaid and so had committed to the stay. The room photos online look great but were not the reality. The view was good and linen clean and the virtual receptionists were as helpful as they could be.

Rob (4/5): - While the position of the accommodation was great the facilities were quite poor. The rooms were aged and quite small. The air conditioner remote needed us to purchase batteries to use and the fact you couldn't have the temperature less than 23 degrees made it difficult for sleeping in humidity. No hair dryer and the ironing board was broken. We frequent Newcastle regularly with 2-3 trips a year and this was the worst accomodation we have had in the 5 years of visiting.

Attention to detail for housekeeping was appalling the bed & chairs were with out The room smelt like stale cigarettes & alcohol The only good thing about the proeryu was the location located at Nobby's Beach & close to City & Cooks hill for cafes & restaurants But charging the rate I paid wasn't value for money & im annoyed that it was a hostel! .

As soon as you entered the building you could tell it was unclean and run down. The room smelt, the carpet looked dirty, the chairs were stained. It was very dusty and unclean, we had to wipe things down. Furniture very battered, marks everywhere on furniture and walls. Bathroom very old, the balcony, covered in cigarette ash and butts. Person above us with no balcony was smoking out the window, so everything fell in the balcony, also covered in birds mess. Air con did not work, I really am unsure what else I could say about this place, but would not stay here again, thankfully it was for only one night, but that was too long

This place is a health hazzard and one of the worse places have ever stayed. Stay well clear of this place. The bed were atrocious, one look like had poo stains. Queen been springs sticking out. Bathroom, mould. Hasnt been updated since 1920's. Place probaly good for dog hotel not fit for humans.

Next door made noises till after midnight. The aircon outlet rattled loudly. The bathroom was dirty and much too small. The door kept jamming. There were 8 carparks for which they charged $25 a night. The overall cost of $225 is rapacious.?The advertising/ photos are virtually fraudulent. I could go on but really feel like exploring action.

Room was basic but tidy and had everything we needed in a hotel. However, booking was a major gripe. Online questionnaire just did not work and required multiple, long phone calls to resolve. Would look at other options next time for that reason alone.

The room absolutely stank of cigarette smoke - so much s it was hard to breath. Even with the patio door open for an hour the place still reeked. Neither bedside light worked as both had smashed bulbs. There was glass (from bulb) over the floor on one side.

Helen (2/5): - Alloggio use to be a great place to stay not anymore. Someone on level 1 had a toaster and burnt the toast. the fire alarm went off and everyone had to evacuate the building. We were all in PJs standing outside . I spoke to the reception desk and they couldn't get through to anyone and exit was at 10am. I actually paid for two extra hours. Then no one could get back into the building becasue all the codes were terminated. So again I called to find out how to get back in eventually received a code that said I could use my code after 2pm. When again I spoke to the reception couldn't answer my call so hungup on me. I had no toaster in my room why did level 1 have one. And yes I would like a partially refund of my stay. Really bad .
David (8/5): - Nice location but parking is expensive and inconvenient (2P everywhere from 09:00 until 21:00). The bathroom (and the room itself) could really use a renovation or at least a little maintenance. It's quite noisy too, we could hear noise from adjacent rooms. It was nice enough though, we enjoyed our stay.

I think the carpets and furniture have not been properly cleaned in a VERY long time. Bathroom the worst ever. Toilet squished in corner, SO uncomfortable and the whole thing moves! Like it is going to fall off the cement block it is fixed to! Unbelievable. The property is old and needs a facelift but at least keep the basic things decent and clean! Will not book that property again!

Trevar (6/5): Expensive and tired - We spent three nights here enjoying Newcastle. The location is great, right between the CBD and some of the city’s best attractions. The surf is audible on the balcony, although all there is to see is the neighbours’ backyards 🤣 The hotel feels a little tired, with old tiles painted over and old furniture looking the worse for wear. It is reasonably clean, though, and the ancient fridge, though wobbly, kept the milk wonderfully cold ❄️ The hotel seems to have decided to keep their reception unstaffed in the wake of the pandemic, and also not to do daily servicing, which is a tad disappointing. The access process works fine, but there is no one to answer the phone if you encounter a problem, so if you’re not very tech savvy you might find it particularly difficult. It seems particularly stingy to have no reception and no cleaning while price stays high. The hotel claims to care about the environment and asks guests to keep their showers short to this end. It is interesting that their care for the environment doesn’t lead to even the simplest of actions on their part: there is no recycling bin, no organics bin, there are paper signs everywhere, flourescent lights are still in use and there aren’t even solar panels on the roof! That ‘commitment’ to the environment seems particularly superficial. The only real problem we encountered was that there was only one set of batteries to be shared between the TV and aircon remotes, which was very annoying.

Sarah (4/5): - The hotel is in a good location to be by the beach, however be aware that no parking is provided and Newcastle have a ridiculous 2hr parking rule which you can’t extend. It’s through an app so you can’t even just move your car down the road. My room was dirty. There were mens whiskers on the bathroom sink, which was visibly dirty. There was the remnants of old soap on the shower soap holder and the bathroom smelt of urine. The hotel is noisy. You can hear the rooms next door and when people are in the hall it is as though they are in your room.

The room was clean and the furniture and carpet squares were quite newish but very old fashioned and dowdy in style making the room appear old and outdated. Wifi was poor. Parking outside is metered, thus my reason for wanting to book parking. As there is no reception desk, I received an email to check in. Expedia quoted $20.00 per day for parking. The property wanted to charge me $44.00 a day. When I finally was able to contact them, they honoured the $20.00. The location was great but there are other properties in the same area. I would be reluctant to stay at this property again.

Taryn (2/5): Worst place I have stayed in - This was the worst place I have ever stayed in. I was asked to swap rooms because they said something needed to be fixed in my first room. Then no hot water in my second room. Then I had 3 different lots of cleaners come into my room in the morning why I was naked in bed sleeping, because they weren’t told I was there. I asked for a refund for the hot water and was told I could only get a 50% refund, and I have not received this yet. Check in was frustrating as there is no reception, and when I would call the number it would ring out. Also, I was put on hold for 15 minutes multiple times while they were trying to sort out my room swap and hot water. Even after ‘fixing’ the hot water, the water pressure was really bad. Terrible customer service, poor treatment, lack of organisation and poor rooms.
Nathan (2/5): - My room stunk like marijuana when I arrived, I thought it was just residual so I ignored it, then I realised the neighbours must have been smoking in the bathroom and sending the smoke thru the system.. I had the worst nights sleep as the neighbours decided that they would knock on the walls from 4am just to ensure that nobody can get a good nights sleep, great view from the room if you can operate on zero sleep and do not have to return a negative drug test

Verified traveler (8/5): - It was an excellent location and good value for money. The bathroom was a not so clean and needed upgrading. Parking was good although we did pay extra for this.
Verified traveler (2/5): - This property had 0 staff at all, the room was filthy, the bathroom had a shower curtain with mould all over it. The carpet had hair, dirt and fluff around every unvacummed edge and corner. Would never stay here again. Way over priced for such a property.

While the room was clean and fresh sheets etc the bathroom was in a very unappealing condition and the room had an outlook to a brick wall facing terrace where rusting chairs lurked. Piled outside our room was a growing pile of someone’s old towels. Would never stay there again or recommend it.

Verified traveler (4/5): - There was hair in the bathroom in several spots from previous visitors. Small, old bathroom. Who has shower curtains in a motel these days?The hallway absolutely smelt of smoke. Did not see one employee.
Verified traveler (2/5): Worst experience ever - I arrived at 2pm 19th April as I'd confirmed when booking an upgraded room with carpark space. Despite Allogio's promise, no SMS or email had been sent to me by 2pm (my arrival time) providing the Entry code. No room number info whatsoever. Even the carpark (I'd paid $22 for) would not allow me in. So I stood outside Alloggio on the street, my car illegally parked, with all my bags, trying to get in for over an hour. I rang the number Alloggio provided on my booking email and spoke with a person clearly speaking to me from another country. Totally unhelpful. Seeing how upset I was the Caretaker inside came out and tried to help. I showed him my emails from Alloggio and Hotels.com. He very kindly rang a staff member in Australia (!!) and "Alisha" immediately sent me an Entrance code. It got me in, but the internal code she sent did not allow me into my room, so she had to send a second. I finally entered my "upgraded" (extra $20) room, which smelt like it had been cleaned with the same mop and sponge that had cleaned various toilets. It was now 4pm, 2 hours after I'd arrived, and I was so upset by this crappy experience I decided to cancel my booking altogether. Alisha assured me I'd get all my money back. $135. But even after writing to both Hotels.com and to Alloggio to complain, 3 days later I've heard nothing back. It was the worst "welcome" I've ever had, and the last time I book Alloggio or through Hotels.com.

The walls were filthy,toilet was disgusting,shower curtain was mouldy,not enough towels for all guests & very small. At least the beds were clean & we got a small ocean view. It's truly in desperate need of some renovations.
