Guest Reviews
- Shannon (8/5): - The beds !! Water pressure was great too
- Dominick (10/5): - Friendly and respectful
- Dominick (10/5): -
- Nick (10/5): - We were given two separate rooms because our original room was freshly painted and the smell was still noticeable. Very nice place would definitely stay here again, no breakfast or ice , but the gas stations open late and have snacks and ice.
- Wayne (10/5): - Excellent
- Peter (8/5): - Property easy to find and access. Welcome and processing went smooth. Room clean, bed comfortable
- Christine (8/5): - I had booked wrong check-in date but didn’t realize until we got there, they were very accommodating and there was no extra charge. Would recommend,Comfortable bed.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Not mucy sleep. - Room was quite fine but there was no one at check in. Rang the bell 3 times then phoned. When person came, they couldn't speak english so had to do check in through a phone. Didn't give us wifi info. Noisy with trains across the street.
- REGINA (10/5): - I liked the quiet and staff. Had problem with door which was corrected quickly.
- Kelsie (8/5): Sundown Motel - A convenient, clean establishment. Perfect for a one or two nights stay and a surprisingly good alternative to the big chains.
- Dolsie (6/5): - What we didn’t like was the air conditioner in#12 was so extremely noisy it kept us awake sounded like a coffee grinder and most of the tv channels were off the air. Need more pillows on the bed these were so small got a bad neck cramp
- Tara (4/5): - Wifi was good, bed was very hard and the pillows were very small and only provided 2. Woke up to a dark room and got out of bed where I was poked in the side of my face by a nail. There was something that was dangling off the roof by the morning leaving a nail exposed. Was clearly a problem in the past as there was tons of glue on it and one single tack. I immagine that’s what was holding it up until it fell. Very scary and dangerous. I did report it and the front desk girl was understanding but still sa safety concern- and I was still poked by a nail in my face.
- karen (10/5): - This motel was very clean. I would stay here again. There is no restaurant on the property.
- Rhianna (8/5): - It is a nice motel, wish they had tea and coffee available. Cable wasn't working during my stay but I understand that's not always in their control.
- Amer (6/5): - Strong carpet smell I dont like . I like parking.
- Amy (8/5): - Just what we needed. Had to call to confirm details. It is old, but they are upgrading.
- normand (6/5): - Needed some upgrades
- Joan (8/5): - The staff were friendly, room was clean, comfortable and price was fab!
There was a delay in letting us into our room but they were apologetic.
- George (6/5): Pleasant - Great price and location, staff was friendly and accommodating. Rooms are definitely dated and well worn, but for the price it's good value.
- Armand (8/5): - When we say the picture on Expedia, we assumed the unit included a kitchen, but it was only a kitchen room available for all guests (a little deceiving).
However we found the management very accommodating, providing all we asked for (dishes, bowls, cutlery, paper plates).
Room was clean.
Housekeeping service was very very friendly and helpful. Thank you.
- George (6/5): - Very good price. Clean but older. plug by microwave didn't work.
- Dorothy (6/5): - We couldn’t get into the office on arrival. It’s an old motel that needs serious upgrades. We didn’t have coffee in our room although there was a coffeemaker. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom had been renovated.
- Mark (4/5): - There was smoke detectors with dead batteries that were beeping all night not awful for the price but there’s room for improvement
- Evangeline (8/5): It Was awesome! - It was awesome! The barrel parking
- Barbara (8/5): - All good
- Scott (10/5): - Good value
- Patricia (2/5): - Put in a low class room and not the one I reserved.
I had to get battery out of smoke detector and they did not replace.
Pilot light out in furnace - very cold the first night. They offered a small space heater and then never got the furnace working,
Missing lightbulbs
I think they should not be on Expedia as they are not keeping up the property!!
Cleaning of room was minimal…..
Plug ins not up to code and the ones there didn’t work,
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Always friendly and considerate.A wonderful place,excellent value!
- Александр (7/5): Good -
- Cartwrightgoes (6/5): good for an overnight stop - Friendly staff. budget friendly
train across the road but slept well, i have stayed here a few times now stopping in at the spa for a float overnight while driving across Canada
decent hot water and good shower pressure. Small fridge, microwave and tv.
- Eileen (2/5): Very poor - False advertising by Booking..said only 3 rooms available..we were only room booked! Staff cannot speak English..very very hard to understand.wanted me to pay again..good thing I had my confirmation! Daughter had arranged for flowers wine to be delivered to room .. they say no...but girl who took them to motel said the woman checked and said yes we were booked..they say no one brought anything to be delivered to room. Totally not impressed especially their language barrier. Room was so so clean..they don't vacuum under furniture..just a grungy feel with the rugs. Will never book there again and did not appreciate being told only 3 rooms left...just to get one to book a room! Never again!
- Skywalker (10/5): Staff were great and friendly - Very clean and comfortable
- abps1961 (2/5): Difficult - Bedding only changed once a week.room probablycleanedeven less...noise from trains across street all night..Flys on walls..stairs outside are in bad shape..lots of noise in room..was forced to stay a week because they are one of the few that are dog friendly.
- Alvin (8/5): - Good people
- Collin (5/5): Passable -
- Hafiz (8/5): Very good -
- Kim (7/5): Good -
- Zafarullah (10/5): - Good Staff. Easy parking. Room service everyday.
- Zafarullah (10/5): - Stayed for work and quite and relaxing place.
- James (7/5): The Sunset Motel offers good value for the price and the room met all our needs. We would come back again. - We liked the convenience of the location in proximity to Manitou Hot Springs; the bed was comfortable; the room was comfortable; and the room rates were affordable. There was some minor uncleaned grime on the bathroom floor. And there was some cobwebs on the ceiling, housefly dung on the smoke alarm and some unsightly dead insects inside the glass lens of the main ceiling mount light fixture.
- Brian (2/5): - Awkward check in as no one on-site. Rooms need cleaning and updating. Stayed 2 nights but moved for the next 2 nights.
- Dwayne (3/5): Very poor, office locked when checking in, had to phone for staff to come. - No breakfast. There was no TV connection.
There was no hot water to shower in the morning.
- Ray (4/5): - Room was clean but very old.
Needs a lot of updating
No safety features like smoke detectors and carbon monoxide sensors
- Gerard (8/5): It met all my needs being very clean and with a well equipped kitchen. - The room was roomy with all facilities as promised. I didn't realize how far the motel was from downtown Moose Jaw.
- James (5/5): Clean rooms in right place for our stay in Watrous, Sask -
- Leonard (6/5): Pleasant - No breakfast, across road from railway tracks - however got used to them by 3rd day
- Torrance (2/5): Very poor -
- Gordana (1/5): Disappointed and leaving tired. - Nothing. Supervizor rude not accommodating at all. Owner not responsive. Room is hot and with loud air conditioning trains pass by whole night, impossible to rest. The most uncomfortable bed and pillows. Towels are brown and old.
- Lorna (4/5): Over all it was comfortable. - very disappointed with all the weeds growing on property and close to to buildings. It doesn't take much to pull or round up weeks when they are first visible.
- Yvette (10/5): - This place was clean but the shower did not work. There is a train line right beside it but the last train I heard was before 9:30 p.m. and I heard a huge truck go by before that as well. It seems quiet after that and I got a really great night sleep and was not awakened by any other noises. I didn't actually really mind my stay here but the price was a little too much for it.
- Craig (6/5): ok - no breakfast satisfied
- Elaine (6/5): - Nice for a short stay. The beds were incredible!
- Borman (10/5): Exceptional - it was very clean, easy check in and check out
- Karolina (10/5): Exceptional -
- Melissa (7/5): Good -
- Kelly (8/5): - Nice quiet hotel. Late check in was great. Friendly staff
- Lacey (10/5): - Simple, clean, no frills motel that is exactly what you need if you’re looking for a cheap place to stay in town. Friendly staff and nice, cool rooms in the summer.
- Rodney (5/5): Passable -
- Kate181793 (2/5): Avoid the Sundown Motel like the Plague!!!!! - I booked (and paid in advance) for a 4 night stay at the Sundown Motel because my first choice (the Super 8) was fully booked. There are only 2 options in Watrous and the area is a popular tourist destination. When I arrived at 5:00 PM there were no cars in the parking lot. The office was open but the phone instructions were useless (no one answered) and the other phone number taped on the office window was no help either. I finally decided to go to the Super 8, hoping that maybe someone had cancelled. Luckily for me the 2 facilities are linked in some way and the extremely helpful Super 8 manager was able to make me a key for my room at the Sundown Motel. He also accompanied me there to make sure the key worked, which it did. Shortly thereafter a family with 3 kids arrived, who also thought that their reservation would be honoured. Somehow they managed to find someone who could help them. Issues that arose over the following 4 days included no coffee (I had to buy a jar of instant coffee) and when the coffee did appear, one morning there were no cups. The bed was never made, except by me and the towels were never changed. The desk "chair" was not adjustable and I had to pile two pillows on it to work on my computer.
- Patricia (10/5): - Hosts were very friendly and accommodating. The check in and out process was fast and easy. Lots of parking. Room was clean and had a nice shower. Bed was comfortable. Pet friendly was a big plus. Watrous is a lovely town to walk in the evenings and a very short drive from the many attractions at Manitou Beach. Recommend!
- Naomi (9/5): Great location, comfortable motel - Everything was clean, room was as advertised. Bathrooms were nicely upgraded.
- Lynn (4/5): Interesting expereience - Hard to reach reception
Tried to give us room with one bed when I had booked a double
Coffee maker didn't work
Saw no other customers, yet no vacancy
Fortunately we insisted on two key cards, since when we returned at night one did not work
- Elaine (9/5): Clean and comfortable - Extremely clean, comfortable bed and pillows, but the wifi left much to be desired, hardly any Chanel’s and most Indian speaking. Tv channels
- Brooke (7/5): Good -
- Wolfgang (10/5): - Convenient , coffee maker didn't work.
- Sandra (8/5): - Staff was outstanding!!
- Claudette (8/5): - It's an older motel with small rooms. We were there on a very hot day. The air conditioner kept the room nice and cool. The beds are comfortable. If you are looking to just get a good nights sleep it is quiet and comfortable.
- Grace (7/5): Good - The bed was not comfortable. Pillows and the bed were too soft.
- Émilie (9/5): Stay in Watrous - Conveniently located, walking distance to to the Via Rail train station, a great bakery and some stores. Room was clean and everything was in working order. Had to keep my window open, as the air circulation in the room wasn't that great.
- Ray (4/5): - Beds clean and comfortable. Bathroom clean.
Carpet old and tattered. Floor uneven, sloped, soft spots. Needs major update. Bathroom window falling out. Way overpriced for condition.
- Anonymous (6/5): Pleasant -
- Clifton (10/5): Exceptional -
- Janzen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Robert (8/5): - Room was clean & tidy, property was easy to find. Check in/out process was quick and efficient - I would be happy to recommend the Sundown to my friends/family
- Donna (5/5): Passable - Hotel is going downhill. Not maintained Beds
Tv didn't work
Coffee provided does not work with pot provided
Not as clean as it used to be
- MALOURDES (10/5): - HAPPY TO STAY
- Chris (8/5): - It was a convenient stop for us coming from Manitoba and close to the Manitou spa.
- Jason (2/5): - Nobody was at reception or answering calls. Had to go somewhere else
- Lorne (3/5): Poor - Water barely dripped out of the bathroom faucet.
Lots of stains on the bedding.
- Chiperi (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alex (2/5): It’s not for everyone! -
- Citrusmidnight67 (4/5): Felt like a trucker motel. A place to stay overnight and then move on. - No breakfast included. Clean towels, garbage was removed and beds were excellent. Would like to purchase those mattresses for home. More gravel on the driveway. Very muddy in front of the door and where we parked the car. Poor lighting, poor electrical some of the receptacles need to be replaced they don’t hold the plug it falls out. Had to run water a long time before getting hot water. Door needed to be sealed wind blowing in. Shoe tray inside beside the door would be nice to keep the mud at bay.
- Lester (7/5): Good -
- Joelle (10/5): We will be back , our bed was soooo comfy and very clean room , however no plastic spoon or stir sti - Love that it's pet friendly and ground level to take dogs out Parking is awful not much room with all the snow banks in front of hotel
- Janice (9/5): Superb -
- Lauretta (8/5): - Lots of trains passing by but didn’t bother me
- Alison (7/5): Good - Location. Reasonably priced.Clean and comfortable. Older motel which has been nicely renovated - no ventilation. Room stuffy at night
- Deon (8/5): - Just love the property. Staff was friendly and parking was very convenient. Cost of stay is excellent. The only down was the housekeeping in the room. Between 1 and 10, housekeeping is around a 4. However, I will surely stay here again.
- Serhii (8/5): Very good -
- Sam (5/5): Passable -
- Olga (6/5): Pleasant -

- Marcia (9/5): very nice room and super comfy bed. the kitty cat at the front desk was awesome. -
- OsoyoosFan (8/5): Very Nice place to stay - Friendly staff. Our room was very , very clean. Great beds. We enjoyed our overnight stay. Even the sound of the trains running by was a nice nostalgic sound and by no means kept us awake. They also allow pets. We would definitely stay there again if we are in the area.
Room had good heating system, plenty of hot water and good shower pressure. Small fridge, microwave and tv. Everything you would need.
- Annette (8/5): Good sleep in a comfortable room - Loved the country feel of the location Better steps up to the rooms
- Denis (10/5): This is an excellent place to stay if you are visiting Watrous and Manitou Lake area. - Everything was perfect. The room was clean. The bed was very comfortable. Close to Manitou Beach and restaurants and very quiet. Also very pet friendly.
- Daryl (8/5): - The sun deck
- Viola (7/5): Simple comfortable stay. - I liked the simple clean room and bathroom. The room was noisy with traffic and trains going by, although I did like the trains! The bed was comfortable and the staff were really helpful. The traffic was noisy.
- Meabry (1/5): Bad -
