Allison (4/5): Disappointing - Good location. The room was dated and uninspired. We were supposed to have a queen size bed, but was only a full size. The comforter cover was stained. The curtains didn’t fully cover the windows which faced the street. My messages to the hotel were unanswered.

The rooms were incredibly comfortable, beautifully decorated, and spotlessly clean. Every space in the hotel feels cozy yet refined, with little touches that show how much care goes into creating a great guest experience. It’s the perfect blend of historic Georgetown charm and modern comfort. What truly made our stay stand out was the hospitality—especially John. He was incredibly attentive, friendly, and genuinely welcoming. John went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed and took the time to make us feel right at home. It’s rare to find that level of personal care, and it made our stay even more memorable. The location is also fantastic—quiet and peaceful while still being an easy walk to Georgetown’s shops, restaurants, and historic spots. It’s the perfect home base for exploring Washington, DC. Nestled in a beautiful neighborhood of Georgetown, the Poppy provides a homey vibe with spacious and clean rooms with full access to a common kitchen area. You are within walking distance of some great shops and restaurants. We would come back to visit DC area just for experience of staying at the Poppy Georgetown again!

Friendly staff, free European style breakfast each morning was a bonus. Get a coffee and sit in the sunny garden! Would return in the future!! Walking distance to so many DC gems.
gmig261 (10/5): Great stay - We traveled to the Georgetown area to visit family. Looked for a place that was close to their home and found The Poppy in Georgetown. Before booking we spoke with the staff about the locations accommodations for guest with mobility issues. we were trying to avoid too many stair's. They suggested room 5 as it is located on the same level as the entrance with the only steps were at the main entrance. Upon arrival we made our way to our room and it was perfect. It was as we had been advised and reminded us of a bedroom in a home instead of just another hotel room. The room was very large had an electric fireplace, large screen tv, a desk and a mini fridge which is a good thing when traveling with insulin. It had an oversize bathroom that with an oversized shower that I believe would accommodate a wheelchair. The entrance to the shower appeared to be a roll in type. They offered a continental breakfast each morning with a very nice selection of pastries, breads, meat and cheese, fresh fruit, large selection of cereal, milk, coffee, and juices. One word of caution is that Room 5 shares a common wall with the parlor area at breakfast time you can hear some of the goings on in the parlor. The surrounding area has a sandwich shop deli, across the street is a market, near by there are numerous good dining place less than a mile away. I never felt unsafe when I walked about the area. The staff was very nice. We have already decided that upon our return to the DC area we are going to try to rebook here first. The last two words of the name of this location Guest House really says it all. We really felt as though we were guests in someone’s home.
Margaret (8/5): A nice efficient place to stay. - Nice sized room, comfortable bed, nice breakfast and refreshments included. Great restaurant next door. The room was a little down at the heels. The bed fabric was tired and spotted, the desk chair was damaged. The bathroom door was a sliding door that was difficult to move and afforded little privacy.

Andrew (9/5): A modern, welcoming home away from home. - Clean and well appointed; nice bath facilities; bed was good; coffee and drink bar came in handy, especially all the different milks. Common area decor was very appealing, even in the courtyards. We appreciated the friendly host, John and good communication from Nico. One window in the bathroom let in a lot of light.

Q1111AXpaulab (10/5): Highly recommend the Poppy! - Our three night stay at the Poppy was fantastic! The room was huge and spotless (we had the King suite on the garden level). My twelve year old son said that the pullout couch was really comfortable and our bed was too. The attention to detail-from the ‘borrow’ closet that came in handy for a steamer to the little snacks and open kitchen for drinks all hours-all very thoughtful. Nico and the rest of the staff that we encountered were lovely and helpful. The location was perfect for us-a short walk to all of shopping and restaurants in Georgetown, but in a quiet residential area. Also a fast uber to the National Mall which was great too. We can’t wait to return!

John (8/5): A lovely property with friendly welcoming hosts. - The guesthouse is in a quiet location in a pretty residential part of Georgetown. The whole of Georgetown is within easy walking distance. The hosts were really welcoming and helpful. The room was excellent with everything that you would expect. The garden areas looked really nice but November wasn't the time for sitting outside! The breakfast was a little better than the standard hotel buffet breakfast but a hot choice (other than DIY boiled eggs) would have been nice. We mostly used the Metro for getting round DC and the closest well connected station at Foggy Bottom was a 20 minute walk away.
Tschurin (10/5): A memorable stay - We at the Poppy this past weekend. The accommodations were suitable and the staff and proprietors were agreeable and helpful. Even though it is a small hotel, it has a serviceable lobby/common area where we enjoyed talking with my brother and his wife over drinks and had breakfast the next morning. As for location, the Poppy is in very walkable proximity to Embassy Row, aka Massachusetts Avenue, and to Dumbarton Oaks, one of Washington’s hidden gems. We would enjoy staying there in the future.

Johanna (6/5): Wir würden das Poppy Georgetown nicht mehr buchen. - Die Lage des Hotels war ruhig, die Ausstattung bzgl. Badezimmer und Betten gut. Der Garten war nett zum Sitzen, allerdings hat ihn niemand genutzt, da ja kein Service für Getränke vorhanden ist. Die Anbindung an Busse war gut, die Metro 20 Gehminuten entfernt. Das Regierungsviertel und die Mall sowie das Kennedy Center in einer halben Stunde erreichbar. Das Frühstück war durchschnittlich, der Kaffee aber miserabel. Der Service beim Frühstück war nicht ausreichend. Überhaupt war nie irgend eine Ansprechperson vor Ort, nur bei unserer Ankunft. Unser Zimmer war sehr dunkel und nur über 2 Treppen erreichbar. Kein Schrank, nur 5 Kleiderbügel, kein Safe. Das Preis- Leistungsverhältnis war aus unserer Sicht schlecht.
Tim (9/5): Excellent hosts, property, location. I wouldn't hesitate to return. - generous space, open guest kitchen with many options for breakfast. An excellent restaurant, Aspero, right next door. A market directly across the street. Utterly charming neighborhood. my only negative: Room 5 is close to the kitchen, where the espresso machine is right up against the Room 5 wall. The buzzing of that machine goes right through the wall like an alarm. It would be nice, too, if the windows could open.

Cuso1960 (10/5): Perfect place to stay while in DC - What a perfect place to spend some days in Washington DC. Our room (32) was a perfect place to be when not wandering around the city. The place offers a perfect place to make your breakfast or have a drink. The room was comfortable and the air conditioning worked well but was silent which helped to sleep well. Nico, the host that admired us and gave us tips, was very friendly and available. Too bad it rained on the afternoons when we were there. There is a patio that looks very inviting but the rain did not invite for going out there. I can imagine how nice it could have been to sit there after a tour into the city and have a cold beer or a glass wine. Recommend the place if you are a couple wanting to visit DC. The neighborhood is beautiful.

477ralphk (10/5): A real find..true hospitality as fitting for a traditional location - Courteous and friendly emails before arrival gave us an indication of what to expect. The Poppy House is delightful and surrounded by the wonderful local quirky houses. Complimentary drinks and snacks were a great unexpected touch. Breakfasts were plentiful with a good assortment of fruits, cakes etc. Our room had the benefit of a private garden with a firepit which we made good use of. Georgetown is a friendly old-fashioned area and demands you should walk around and enjoy it. The room itself was larger than anticipated with a spacious bathroom and spotlessly clean.

A very short walk to main Georgetown area. Great restaurants and bars and shopping. There is a grocery store across the street and a liquor store. We will definitely return.
carolineR4037GG (10/5): Very nice stay in Georgetown, a historic neighborhood and commercial district in Northwest Washington, D.C. ! - If you look for a place with a family atmosphere, you are at the right place : we really enjoyed it. The beds are very comfortable. You feel really safe in Georgetown and the metro Dupont Circle is not far to discover all the places to see.
Arielle (9/5): Lovely little guest house in Georgetown - Loved the one bedroom suite room, it was spacious and comfortable. Very cute backyard that was quiet and nice if you wanted to relax. The staff was very nice. Very nice location with lots of little places to eat nearby. Appreciate the little kitchen in the front with nice snacks, but the bagels and bread in the morning were a bit dry.
Michelle (10/5): - This was our first boutique hotel and we absolutely loved it. So cute. Can’t wait to try more places like this in the future. Just adorable and the workers were super nice and helpful too. Room was so pretty. Loved so many things. If I had to criticize anything at all, and these are minor complaints, it would be that they don’t have a basic coffee maker or a keurig. Just a very fancy cappuccino maker. I’m a basic girl and look forward to my basic coffee at home lol. The other thing we didn’t love, and this is my fault for not noticing when booking, there were no basic restaurants or pubs close by to grab a meal or drink at in a pinch. There’s a French restaurant nearby but again, too fancy for us basic folks lol. The last complaint would be that I partly booked this hotel due to the adorable patios and sitting areas outside. We were not able to use them at all because there was so many mosquitoes that my husband got eaten alive within five minutes. They kindly offer bug spray but he doesn’t want to smell like bug spray all day so we just stayed indoors. They told us that the day we were leaving they had a mosquito spraying company to come out and treat for it so that’s good at least. Again in general, we love the hotel and look forward to staying two more places like this. Highly recommend in general. Thank you for everything.

All the amenities were great and we liked the cosy vibes during breakfast time, which was excellent! The neighborhood and general area was dreamy – stunning like a painting and definitely the most beautiful we saw in Washington! The staff was amazing, answering all of our questions from the very beginning and helping us with everything throughout our stay. Sending our warmest greetings from Greece!!!:) Although the neighborhood is the most beautiful in all of Washington, it was a bit of a walk — but that wasn’t a problem and didn’t stop us from having a wonderful time!

The accommodation is comfortable but my bedroom need ed to be freshened up (the paper covering the wall was torn in many places). rebaloo (8/5): Off Beaten Path - The Poppy is very well located away from M Street and all the traffic, with easy access to Rock Creek and all the shops. Good breakfast. Our only complaint was in room 10 there is a broad wooden bench at the foot of the bed. Call us clumsy but in the middle of the night we both fell fully on the floor having tripped over the bench. Disappointingly, the hotel never wrote back to smooth that detail over. Be careful!

The only downside was that we had booked for two adults and two kids, but the sofa bed for the children wasn’t prepared when we arrived. It was a bit tricky to get in touch with the staff since no one was on-site in the evening, but in the end we did get help.

The first week when we were there, we had a room that stepped out into the secret garden where the kids were able to cook s’mores . The following weekend we returned to a lovely room that was well kept overlooking the garden ; overall, this was a very charming experience in a very prime location, thank you.
