- Reibel Yann (10/5): - Warm welcome. We felt like being at home. Perfect ! -
- Noel (10/5): - Sachiko-san is an absolute sweetheart and I wish I had more time to chat with her. She treats you like an old friend and carefully walks you through the check in process. She stayed up for my late check in and greeted me with a smile.
The establishment is very cute and cozy, and the rooms are well-kept and clean. If you want a humble yet comfy place to sleep after a day in the city, I cannot recommend this place enough. I'm not sure how you'd do with a large family, but solo travellers and couples would have a great stay.
Only about a 5 minute walk from Shiinamachi Station but far enough from the hustle and bustle of its neighbors that makes it a quiet, chill experience. Easy access to Ikebukuro and the Marunouchi and Yamanote lines. Also next to a 7-11 so Yamato Transport is very easy! No complaints!
- Gary (9/5): Lovely stay at the start and end of our trip. - Lovely small guesthouse/hostel. Excellent location, only a few minutes walk to a Shiinamachi Station metro station, which is one stop from Ikebukuro Station, which then has transport across the city. We started and ended our trip in Tokyo and the owner was incredibly friendly when we first arrived, and even more so when we came back.

- Chris (10/5): Convenient place to stay in Tokyo! - The owners were extremely and helpful. The place has a great feel to it and is well equipped.
Great placement just one station away from Ikebukuro which is great to move around Tokyo and outside. Easy access to stores (711, family mart) and nice restaurants. The sound isolation didn't seems the best but it didn't feel very bothersome.

- Jen (10/5): - The house was beautiful and everyone there was so friendly!
- Agrippine (10/5): - Sachiko-san welcomed us with great kindness and warmth. Sheena & Ippei reflects that kindness and you immediately feel comfortable and at home! The traditional room we stayed in was beautiful, well-maintained, and very clean; we slept very well throughout our 5-night stay. We were fortunate to have a wonderful time here, full of joy and nice meetings and we hope that if life allows us to return to Tokyo, we will stay at Sheena & Ippei again.
Thank you so much Sachiko-san!
- Jessica (9/5): Cosy, calm, and close to the action - Great place with lots of charm, in a quiet neighbourhood but still within easy reach of Shinjuku and Shibuya. The room was warm and cosy while still being a decent size, and the common area had a relaxed, homey feel. Staff were lovely, and the free morning coffee was a really nice touch

- Lucie (10/5): Hosts were easy to communicate with, the rooms were clean, beautiful and traditional, we really enjoyed our stay - thank -

- Sive (10/5): - The hosts were amazing, this made our Tokyo stay feel so welcoming and special. The accommodation was so lovely and felt very traditional but with all the style and modern luxuries. The stairs to the room are a bit steep if you have trouble with that but we were fine. No issues
- naoya (10/5): - Great owner, great neighbor, great people.
Rien
- Davis (10/5): Exceptional - Sheena and Ippei is a gem. Warm hospitality, convenient location with a laundromat next door and a few minutes to the subway, we would highly recommend. Beds are comfortable and the experience is a slice of Japan that's really sweet.
- Emma (10/5): Great place, great hosts, great quiet location but easy to access everything - We had a fabulous stay - lovely place, great room, great coffee. The staff were so welcoming and even helped us transport our luggage from Tokyo to Osaka. We wish we could have stayed longer !! Easy walking distance to the train and good food nearby.
- Guy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Riccardo (10/5): Real japanese guesthouse - Out of the crowded area of Tokyo but still well connected with main neighbourhoods to
We had the tatami superior room and it was spacious and clean.
The owner is very nice and is always helping you with advice .
Highly recommended!
- Lorna (6/5): Pleasant -
- Natasha (10/5): Exceptional - We absolutely loved our stay at Sheena To Ippei — such a cool and well connected neighbourhood. The staff were so friendly and the whole facility so beautiful and well equipped. The perfect stay in Tokyo!
- Sara (9/5): Awesome guesthouse ! - Super friendly staff and lovely room. Comfortable futons and the little homely touches were very nice. We had a great stay.
We loved the neighbourhood although it is a little way out and quiet.
Lovely neighbourhood space downstairs. The walls were a bit thin but this didn't bother us overnight.
- Michelle (5/5): Fairly comfortable stay in a remote town - The owner and the girl who helps in the morning were very nice. The owner helped with luggage, getting up a very steep and narrow staircase. The pictures drew us to this small hostel-like hotel. It didn’t made expectations. Although the owner was very nice and accommodating, we didn’t like the location, as it’s purely residential, and there is nothing to do within walking distance. It also has a very narrow and steep staircase to get to the room we had. Not a problem in terms of fitness, but it looked dangerous from the top of it if anyone wasn’t paying attention.
- Erin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Chunghwan (9/5): t feels like I went to a country house when I was young - the comforts of a country house It's winter, so there's a draft
- Jones (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dylan (10/5): Exceptional - Really nice welcome and recommendations by owners. Loved the restaurants and sento in the area. The beds and rooms are super cozy and I slept well.
- Helen (8/5): Great for budget travelers looking for an authentic experience - Authentic & in a nice neighborhood off ghetto beaten track It’s lovely but I need something more comfortable with its own bathroom these days
- Guy (10/5): Exceptional - Sachiko, her husband and her team are lovely! The place really feels like a home, which is why we've come back so many times and hope to come back again. Sheenamachi has loads of nice little restaurants, and is a bit off the beaten track so you get a taste of the real Tokyo.
- Kinga (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tim (10/5): Exceptional - This was my favourite place to stay during my time in Japan. The owners are super friendly, the room was very comfy and the neighbourhood was amazing to explore as it is more of a residential and not a very touristy area. I loved every bit of my stay and found it to be very relaxing. It's great to rest here after exploring Tokyo for the entire day.
- Chia (10/5): Excellent Ryokan - The host was great. She is calm and gentle and answers every question I had with some English and some google translate. We were able to even have conversations. The room was comfy. If you are looking for an experience of a smaller ryokan, this is the place. Close to subway station. Shinjuku and Shibuya are easy to get to. Coin laundry next door, which we used and was convenient. 7/11 next door which we used to send our luggage ahead to the next location and that was convenient too! The reception lobby area is set up like a cute retro cafe. Super cute. No
- Scott (10/5): Traditional accommodation with everything you need for an enjoyable stay. The highlight was our host Sachiko who was alw -
- Daan (10/5): Thank you for our wonderful stay. Sayonara! - Warm and welcoming people who did their best to make us feel at home from the start. A lovely Japanese atmosphere in a great neighborhood away from busy Tokyo. Would recommend for those who are looking for a quite, authentic stay in Tokyo!
- François (9/5): Superb - Sachiko-san and all the staff were very welcoming and nice. We enjoyed the common room downstairs, our morning coffee and the beds were comfortable. The location was good, with lots of shops and restaurants around.
Thank you for this wonderful stay at the end of our trip ! The room was small, bit that was expected in Tokyo. We enjoyed everything else.
- Dylan (10/5): Fantastic People in a Sweet Spot - Wonderful kind caring owners. Great to meet the makers and bakers in the coffeeshop downstairs. The tatami room was really a treat. A rare and precious chance to experience older cultural modes within modern but residential Tokyo (Toshima). I could hear the soft cafe music from my room but that must be because I had a wonderful street facing room... With a window overlooking the street!
It was a fantastic stay and everyone there is so kind. What a treat to be in such an environment.
There's a great shrine and temple with a coffeeshop just nearby. The station is a 4 minute walk. Ikebukuro is the next stop so you're super well connected!
- Amit (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tai (10/5): Enjoyable stay - Sachiko was great. We had a brief chat each morning over a cuppa almost like friends - plans, how was yesterday, etc. She was also gave me helpful advice when I asked. We communicated through google translate well 🙌🙌🙌 I really appreciated her and felt in the end I settled in quite well after my 5 night stay. The location of the place was close to shiinamachi station which required an extra transfer from ikebukuro. Taking the subway- figuring out the stations, multiple transfers- can be tiring but I really liked the suburb. It made me feel grounded being able to see where everyday people lived ( I was able to do pullups at a local park, get onigiri and candied sweet potatos from a rice shop, have really good Chinese food close by, etc) If I'd stayed longer, I'd be keen to try the massage place across from this accommodation also. The aforementioned Ikebukuro is a big transit hub and if you're after any souvenirs you could get pretty much anything there. Nothing bad - see my 10/10 rating
Trivial: Maybe I'm a bit of a messy sleeper but my down blanket/doona cover kept getting undone 😅
Note: bring your own PJs
- Luigi (10/5): Exceptional - Comfortable, extremely clean rooms and shared bathrooms, with an excellent location (very close to a train station and many great, local shops and restaurants - not many tourists). Staff is excellent (Sachiko is so friendly and helpful!), and the common areas are great as well.
- Lasse (9/5): Superb - Very friendly, helpful and lovely staff.
- Tomas (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing host, very convenient location (near a subway station and relatively quick to get to central Tokyo), very nice neighbourhood - quiet, loads of amenities, close to ATM, 7-11 and restaurants. We really enjoyed our stay here and chatting with Sachiko-san every morning (she always made us coffee (it's free), gave us lots of recommendations of things to do) and made us feel super welcome. The lounge area was very cozy and always smelled like freshly baked cookies! We will definitely stay here in our next trip to Tokyo!
- Julie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Erika (8/5): Very friendly and helpful host, quite location in a non-touristy suburb, clean and comfortable room. - The host was incredibly helpful. She recommended a lovely cafe next to a temple and let us keep our bags at the ryokan until later in the day. It was quite expensive when compared to the flashpackers we stayed in earlier in Tokyo, and didn't include breakfast. The shared kitchen was tiny and it would have been difficult to prepare food, so good if you just need a room.
- Armin (9/5): Superb -
- Mikhail (8/5): Very good -
- Jarrad (10/5): Unique traditional Japanese styled accomodation. The lady that was working during my stay was very friendly - sorry I ca - Loved the traditional Japanese styled rooms. Really comfortable beds. Nothing
- Mauro (8/5): Very good -
- Guy (10/5): Exceptional - This is my third time coming back here - every time, the lovely staff, easy access to a train station and cosy rooms make me want to come back again. Hopefully it won't be too long before I am back again!
- Jennifer (10/5): Wonderful gem of a place, with a lovely owner that I hope to see again on my next visit! - The owner of Sheena to Ippei is the loveliest and most helpful person -- I felt so warmly welcomed upon arriving and throughout my stay! Additionally, the facilities are cozy, comfortable, and very clean.
In terms of location, it is only a short walk from the nearest metro station (Shiinamachi), but note that only the Ikebukuro Line stops there, meaning that transfers will often be necessary. It was no problem for me, as I enjoyed walking around the area (there are lots of little local gems!) but just something to keep in mind if planning on exploring many parts of Tokyo.
- Jacopo (8/5): We felt immersed in a quiet Japanese neighborhood in Tokyo, at a typical accommodation. - A perfect spot to enjoy a quiet neibourghood. We found delicious restaurant and cafe nearby. Not a bad feedback, but one should consider steep stairs to access the room, and then going back and forth from the room (1 floor) to the shared toilet/shower/sink (ground floor).
- Nicolas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Fabrizio (10/5): Lovely - The location was just lovely, very quiet and at the same time bustling with life. The beds were really comfortable and the room and shared spaces were very clean. I would definitely love to come back! Stairs are a bit too steep so you need to be careful.
- Jing (10/5): Exceptional - The staff at sheena to ippei are really warm and lovely! Checked in late due to some issues but Sachiko-san was so kind and understanding, and we even got a room upgrade ^^ Room was cozy and clean, and it is a short walk from the train station. It was a very comfortable stay, highly recommend! ♡
- Hsuan (9/5): Superb - Coffee is good!
Kind staff
Comfortable room Nothing
- Juan (8/5): Quite stay in Tokyo. - The location was good. It was a complete different experience from central Tokyo. It gave me the impression that I was living longer in Tokyo because it felt quite and residential. The staff was really kind and sweet giving me some recommendations of things to do around.
- Christophe (10/5): thank you again for your warm welcome in your stunning place. I’ll not hesitate next time I’m going to Tokyo. - Perfect place to stay some days in Tokyo. The area is wonderful. And the owner is extremely kind and thoughtful. Nothing to say for this price range.
- Anonymous (10/5): I stayed for 4 nights and I love the cleanliness and amenities provided by the property. The room smelled of lovely frag - clean, smelled fresh, trash taken out daily, amenities provided, friendly staffs The wall is a little thin so the noise from outside sometimes leaks in. This isn’t any problem for some.
- Jing (10/5): Peaceful yet convenient place to stay in Tokyo - Clean, comfortable and cosy. Reasonably close to the city centre, with lots of konbinis and food options nearby. Sachiko-san and Rei-san were very friendly and helpful. I made a 2nd booking in a separate room due to last minute plan changes, and Rei-san allowed me to continue staying in the original room I booked at no extra cost 😁 Nothing really, I love this place!
- Dillan (10/5): Sachiko was super kind and friendly and made our stay in this beautiful old BnB all the more special! - Beautiful traditional style BnB/Minshuku with super kind host, comfortable beds and in a beautiful old town in Tokyo with lots of traditional businesses around. Soundproofing isn’t something you can expect from this kind of building, and you will be able to hear snoring/talking/walking around throughout the night. But this was warned about before, so I was not alarmed or bothered by this.
- Elbert (10/5): Cute ryokan nestled in a quiet / historic neighborhood. Highly recommended. - The hosts are extremely friendly and easy to communicate with. The room we stayed in was comfortable and clean!
+ free coffee in the mornings :) The food in the area is also delicious. Love the community-driven atmosphere as well.
- Guy (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely Japanese room, really kind staff, patient with my lack of Japanese! Interesting location to go and explore.
- Kris (9/5): Superb - The friendliness of the staff The stairs were a bit small but not a big deal
- Verified traveler (10/5): -
- Oran (10/5): - It felt like a home away from home. Located in a charming small town area minutes from bustling Ikebukuro by train, you can get a glimpse of daily life in residential Tokyo.
I stayed in the bunk bed room on the upper floor. It was a comfy bed and it never got uncomfortable, though I wasn't sure whether the light in the room is supposed to be left on or not. Being that this was an old house/former restaurant, you can hear some voices from downstairs but it didn't bother me.
The staff are really nice and friendly. Shota-san made sure it was a pleasant experience from before arrival though after check out. They offer you coffee each morning in the cafe/lounge space and will strike up a good conversation. I could hang out in the lounge day or night and write in my journal, chat with other guests, or eat something I bought in the many shops nearby. Water, a refrigerator and kettle are available.
Since it was New Year's Eve they hosted a party so you can experience how Japanese celebrate new years at home. Although I had another engagement, on the day after they offered the same traditional Japanese new year meal which I saw them prepare the day before.
Overall, it was a memorable stay and I would come back again.
- Michelle (10/5): - Started our trip to Japan at Sheena and Ippei in Tokyo and it was the best start to our holiday. Our host Shoto couldn't have been more accommodating and friendly. Friendly atmosphere in the common area and it really does feel like they've extended their home to you. Shoto also makes an excellent coffee to start your morning right!
It's located in Shiinamachi which is on a local line off ikebukuro and was easy to get to.
Would recommend this to anyone who likes a traditional Japanese room, quiet but friendly hostel and nice to be just outside of blingy central Shinjuku
- kin (10/5): Very nice experience in Toyko, feel like a local - Super nice neighborhood, there are lot of nice local restaurants nearby with decent price and very good traffic connection. Their traditional Japanese room is just adorable and the feeling is totally different from another standard hotel.
It will be much nicer if the hostel got a few more shower rooms :-)
- Ryan (10/5): - Awesome staff and super clean place to stay! Highly recommend!
- Christine (10/5): I highly recommend - Cute and clean place.
Very nice, helpful and friendly staff!
Good location in a nice neighborhood.
I won’t hesitate to book at Sheena and Ippei again and I highly recommend it.
- Verified traveler (10/5): -
- Pei-tung (10/5): A very nice and warm place! - Very nice place to enjoy Japanese trip!
The owner who can speak very fluent English is very friendly and kindness.
I have a very good time there!
- Verified traveler (10/5):
- Bea (10/5): Cozy place, lovely neighbourhood - A comfortable and lovely experience, staff was friendly and helpful, many nice and small restaurants nearby, a great area for one to experience real daily life in Tokyo. Will definitely stay here again in the future.

- narrrow is room and only little stay parson so Maybe you can use it alone if you are lucky
- Verified traveler (10/5):

- Wai Ki (10/5): - The staff are nice and helpful. The location is good too! All facilities are new and clean.
Very good expeience to live in.
