Guest Reviews
- Simon (10/5): Absolutely fantastic, highly recommended - The property is absolutely beautiful, the owners Pierre and his wife were fantastic, they are very friendly and gave directions to a fantastic restaurant. The room was huge and very well decorated.
I would stay here again and recommend it to anyone. Thank you for accommodating us 😊 Perhaps the driveway needs lighting so if you walk up at night it’s better lit, but this is really nothing.
- 1234zane (9/5): - It was fabulous
- Tricia (7/5): The place could be fabulous but needs a huge renovation. - Breakfast was fine. Confusion over check-in, weren’t able to access common area on the night of arrival, the place was under renovation and looked rather shabby and unkept.
- Baptiste (9/5): -

- Gareth (10/5): - We had a very good time here with Pierre and his wife. They were extremely friendly and the chateau was lovely. This is a rustic accommodation, very old, and therefore it has everything that could be associated with it. Nothing really, the mosquitoes and flies were a problem but we had similar throughout France.
- ANNE (8/5): -
- Claire (8/5): Met our expectations, very reasonably priced, and good value for a characterful stay! - Manoir de Rouessé is full of beautiful character. While it isn’t ultra-modern, it has everything you need. The room was a great size, with a super comfortable bed and clean, soft linen. The location was ideal for us and very reasonably priced. Pierre, Nathalie, and Claire are incredibly friendly, made us feel very welcome, and were always helpful. Their on-site shop offers a lovely range of beauty, health, and lifestyle products, along with great wines, local produce, and snacks. The continental breakfast was more than sufficient, featuring organic and locally sourced produce – ideal. Being an older property, there is ongoing upkeep, which we appreciated and which didn’t affect our stay in any way.
- Elizabeth (9/5): excellent very friendly hosts -
- PIERRICK (10/5): -
- Miroslav (9/5): -
- Robert (10/5): Made to feel at home -
- Giles (10/5): - Just a wonderful location, fabulous hosts and great food and drink
- Bradshaw (9/5): - Great charactor inside and out.Freindly people, good food, location. My wife didn't like the stairs.
- Koverova (10/5): - The place is beautiful, very comfortable and the host is super friendly. Everything was OK
- Schiester (10/5): -
Rien
- Rainer (8/5): Gern wieder! - Überaus freundlicher Empfang durch die Eigentümer.
Sehr authentisches Ambiente (Manoir 15./16. Jh.).
- Julia (8/5): -
- Martin (7/5): Good -
- Baiba (9/5): Excellent stay! The host with a sparkling sence of humour! -
- Jennifer (2/5): - We selected reserved a room which we were not allocated but a significantly worse room, dirty and with plaster falling from the ceiling from a prior leak, poor WiFi, appalling shower room, and no amenities. ( All had to be prearranged) So no drinking water on a day when it was 34 degrees. Owner said he decided to change it. The room had a plug badly fitted to wall with extension bar for the TV and box. Health and safety issues
- Lynne (3/5): Not as advertised - disappointing - Unfortunately it wasn’t what we expected. The roof of the Manoir was being replaced which we were not made aware of until we arrived. We were offered another room not in the main house but it wasn’t up to scratch so we had to ask for another room in the Manoir itself. The alternative room we were offered had thick brambles blocking the entry steps and those steps were also broken and wobbly. Although the owner offered to cut the brambles back the steps were precarious and loose etc. There was a steep staircase inside the room leading to bathroom which we weren’t keen on navigating either so we asked for another room.
The Manoir room we were offered was in the attic space and was awkward to manoeuvre around. You had to climb steps to get in then steps to go down and then steps to get into the bathroom and duck your head to avoid the beams! The bathroom was not great either. The toilet seat was loose and wobbly, one of the sinks had no taps, the light in the bathroom was hanging down and the shower had leaked.
The owner Pierre and his wife were very friendly and kind but that’s the only positive thing we can say. It’s a shame that we didn’t know all these works were being done as we wouldn’t have booked it. When it’s all finished it will probably be lovely but we were very disappointed.
- Carole (10/5): Exceptional - It is still a work in progress but different from main steam hotels. If you are looking for somewhere unusual this is the place. Food was lovely. Best to have your own transport as a little bit out of town.
- Merilyn (1/5): Appalling - It looked very authentic. The owners were especially rude and unwelcoming. On arrival we were told that we had made two separate bookings which we had definitely not done. He made us wait for at least 20 minutes after we’d had a very long drive to get there while he sorted out the issue which he said was our
problem.
The breakfast offered was absolutely appalling. The stale bread and stale cereal was inedible but we were still charged for the breakfast.
We could not recommend this property to anyone. If we could give it less than 1 star we would.
- Noel (3/5): Would not recommend Manoir to other travellers - Breakfast was so poor we weren’t charged Everything
- Paul (10/5): Character and charm - The manor is oozing so much character and charm. I can't wait to visit again. Slight payment confusion, easily sorted out.
- Samuel (10/5): - Super accueil
- Gilles (6/5): - Shower drain takes hours to get empty and a drop of water falls from shower head every 5 seconds
Toilet tank takes hours to fill
mattress of bed was deformed (to hold)
roof leaks i was told they will fix next year
The bedroom door does not lock
Hard to find the entrance even with GPS
It is a very quite area, owners where very nice
- Valentiu (8/5): An experience in an old castle.if you are not afraid of a little dust I recommend - Very nice building, very nice garden, location excellent the furniture could be updated but maybe they intended to replicate old life conditions
Excellent host Windows hard to open
- Marco (10/5): - Un séjour extraordinaire! A recommander!
Des hosts superbe….
- Marianne (6/5): Pleasant - Correct
- Susannah (9/5): I recommend staying here - it is somewhat unique. - We really liked this place, full of ambience and a glimpse into old France. Room was spacious and bed very comfortable We were able to have dinner there in the evening also which was a real bonus after a long day on the motorbike. I highly recommend it! Nothing, we liked it all very much.
- Gwen (8/5): An enjoyable introduction to Laval. - The property is in a quiet neighbourhood. There is a wonderfully stocked shop on the premises, with good quality wines and eco- food. Our quiet room was above the shop with the entrance at the back of the building. It is 20-30 minute walk from centre Laval. Few restaurants in the immediate vicinity, but you can arrange to have dinner in the manoir (except for Saturday evenings, when it is closed.)
The owners are friendly and helpful, our room clean. There was a small kitchen area in our room, with hob, micro wave etc., but no crockery, pans or cutlery or tea towels.
- Edward (8/5): Good fun good food nice people but needs work - Fantastic old building, great staff
Very comfortable bed Roof leaked, no privacy on the bathroom but otherwise good
- William (5/5): Nice location, interesting property which needs some work - Location Very tired, rooms need a lot of TLC. Very difficult to give a comprehensive review as the owners had suffered a bereavement a week or so before our arrival which affected the visit, would have helped to have been advised earlier so we could make meal arrangements etc
- Stuart (8/5): Very good -
- David (8/5): Very good - Great old world charm, good location, parking available on site, restaurants nearby. Room needed attention to dusting here and there, and breakfast was limited in choices but suffient.
- Giles (10/5): Pierre and Natalie were the perfect hosts, the food the best we’ve tasted in France and their shop provided us with fabu - What a beautiful and fascinating 15th century Manor House, full of interesting artefacts and a stone spiral staircase to our room.
- Robert (9/5): Superb -
- Samantha (6/5): Pleasant - The property is lovely and close to restaurants Property is in need of maintenance and beds leaning due to floors but the property is from 1500s so to be expected
- Michelle (9/5): Perfection - There is a lot charm in this beautiful property great location. Pierre, Natalie and Claire were friendly hosts and provided lovely meals for us.
- Yannick (4/5): - Salle de bains quasiment insalubre
- Soren (8/5): Very good -
- Julien (10/5): Surprenant!!
- Anthony (7/5): Good -
- Rupert (10/5): Exceptional -
- Toni (7/5): Basic amenities. Interesting building. - Simple breakfast, but nice. The beds are saggy and the room needed comfortable chairs. We sat on the bed to read. But the price was fair , when you pay a hostel type of fare that is the standard I think.
- Saskia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mark (7/5): picturesque atmospheric - location and ambience nothing
- Richard (10/5): Fabulous character property. - Charming. Full of character. Some general maintenance required, ie door lock, bathroom was functional but tired.
- Chris (8/5): Very good - It's character and peaceful location, and it's genial host
- Sally (7/5): Nice setting, 25 minute walk into town. - Fabulous historical building with a ramshackle charm A little rough around the edges, could have been a little clearer.
I was also bitten by mosquitoes in the night. Probably from the moat!!!
- Douglas (9/5): Superb -
- Ronald (8/5): Lovely one night stay in a great old manor house that needs lots if work. - Beautiful room in old manor house in need of some TLC. Chambre was very large & airey & very clean with separate toilet & ensuite bathroom . Host also has a very well stocked epicurie in site Hostess cooked us a wonderful 4 course meal catering to our vegetarian needs. Lovely friendly resident dog ! lots of parking on the property. Anazing circular stone staircase leading up to the rooms ( original). Very peaceful. It was away from restaurants . on the edge of town but “ in the country”Mosquitoes because we left the windoes wide open !
- Claire (8/5): Fabulous, a little quirky, but we liked that. - Beautiful location, excellent hosts, clean and comfortable. A little scruffy
- Katherine (5/5): Disappointing based on the description of facilities on booking.com. We anticipated being able to spend a day at the pro - Very friendly staff
Character property In need of refurbishment. Apparently was bought 15 years ago but it appeared that no work had been breakfast but there is no kettle in the rooms.
- Anne-lyse (8/5): a child’s dream to spend a night in the tower of an old castle - the location, the manoir itself, the beautiful surroundings we like everyting
- Liz (7/5): interesting project, good shop, unkempt grounds and entrance. -
- Alan (10/5): A beautiful stay in a fantastic room. Lovely and warm. Plenty of hot water. Snow White sheets on the bed and so clean. - A beautiful setting and amazing property visually. There was nothing we didn’t like about it.
A recommander absolument.
- Julian (8/5): Very good -
- Mark (8/5): I loved this hotel. - its age architectural features nothing
- Glyn (8/5): Very good -
- Mandy (9/5): Superb - location nothing
- Carmel (9/5): It was terrific and a great way to finish off our holiday. - I loved the ambiance and the old worlldly feel of the place Nothing
- John (10/5): Exceptional - A perfect breakfast, with a good choice of things to eat, attractively set out. The room was superb, the position of the chambre-d'hôte an unexpected oasis of beauty in an inner suburb of Laval, the historic house a delight to see, inside and out. Nothing
- Richard (8/5): Very good -
- Christopher (10/5): Amazing castle in a beautiful setting. - This place is absolutely magical. Best place to stay in Laval!
- Christopher (3/5): Disappointed - The sheets were clean. The room had not been cleaned for some time. There was woodworm dust falling onto the pillow every few hours, we had to move the bed. On turning down the bedcover there was a lizard in the bed which had come through the gap between the floor and the skirting board
The shower was obsolete and an electric socket was hanging off the wall. There were substantial cobwebs on all light fittings and in corners of the room, Towels and toilet paper had to be requested. The bathroom was up narrow stairs with low ceiling. Breakfast was basic and served in a room used as the owners office
We were in a room in an out building, maybe rooms in the main house were better as I see there are good reviews but sadly this was not our experience.
- Lorraine (3/5): Very disappointed as had high expectation based on the website - Unfortunately the property did not meet the expectation of the website review and we left feeling very disappointed and over charged.
The property could be fabulous but it felt uncared for and lacked investment.
A nice well stocked shop in the grounds quite reasonably priced. On arrival the two planters at the entrance had been left to die - its not too difficult to keep planters in good order and they give a good first impression. The room was a good size but not a twin bedded room as expected as the two single beds were folding z beds not suitable to charge adults full rate for. The shower lacked water pressure and had no fixing to hold it in position. The dinner consisted of dishes made up from off the shelf supermarket food served cold, nothing freshly prepared, and the wine was cheap and un-drinkable. The cost for dinner and wine was restaurant pricing despite the poor quality. The breakfast was the worst I have experience in many years of holidays in France. The selection was so sparse and poor quality that it cost me 9 Euro for one burnt croissant, a glass or juice and a cup of coffee.
- Roselyn (9/5): Awesome stay - Both the dinner and the breakfast were very nice and served in the dining room with other guests. Great ambiance. There is also an organic store on the premises that has a great inventory of a variety of products. The bathroom in our room needs to be updated
