This wonderful hotel is in a historic building that has been sympathetically restored into a luxury hotel whilst still retaining its historical importance every major sight is on your doorstep, fully walkable, once leaving the hotel you can be standing on the historic walls within moments We have been lucky enough for stay in all the categories of the rooms previously but this time we stayed in a suite which was just so amazing Professional & welcoming team, thank you to Kaysei & all the team in front office for another memorable stay Breakfast was lovely, great selection of cereals, pastries, juices etc & a freshly cooked breakfast also .. yum ! If you don’t manage to be lucky enough secure a room at the Bishop’s Gate for your stay then do at least have dinner in the restaurant or drinks in the bar when visiting this town For comfort, service & location this is the best hotel in town without a doubt

A perfect experience in every regard - the warm welcome, convenient valet parking by Patrick, excellent dinner served by a friendly team of efficient staff and rounded off with a high quality breakfast before departure. Robyn on reception was so friendly, helpful and professional before and at check in, and at checkout. Room 501 was beautiful and had a little balcony where we enjoyed morning coffee in the sun. Room service was prompt, food quality excellent and overall great value with a lovely upgrade thrown in! A new favourite !

The room was excellent - full marks for cleanliness and presentation. Staff were top notch - welcoming and definitely well trained, helpful without being any way overbearing. It was a real delight to enjoy. Food in the restaurant was superb and the breakfasts definitely set us up each day. This hotel absolutely merits its entry in The Blue Book. Very friendly helpful staff, beautiful rooms so well maintained and delicious food. This time we brought my brother & sister in law as they were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. They had a beautiful larger room with a congratulations card & cake. Dinner was so good and breakfast tasty. It's our go to hotel when visiting this area. Thank you for making it special.

It was clean and tidy and the hotel is in a suburb location with only a short walking distance to the local bars and restaurants. - path725 (10/5): The best of the best! - We found this boutique hotel on Booking.com. It was one of their higher ratings and there is now no doubt as to why! The location was perfect. Right inside of The Bishops Gate, 100 meters from the center of the walled city. As soon as you walked in, you could tell the establishment was exquisitely ( not a word I use often or lightly) appointed! We were greeted by Stephanie who was AMAZING! She is the queen of hospitality! This establishment was a 5/5, but any place she woke at would automatically be a 5/5. Just an amazing lady! The rooms were plush, cozy and well outfitted for amenities. They had plenty of dogs paintings in the reception area, grand staircase and restaurant. It was so clever. There was a nice workout room if you are so inclined. The restaurant was exceptional. A great selection of staters, mains and sides. The bruschetta and potato leek soup were great starters. I had the rack of lamb, my wife the filet. Both outstanding. One of the best services that the staff provided was valet parking for £18. In an old city like this one, that’s practically giving the service away. We gave them the car when we checked in, and they held our car and bags the next day for a few hours after we checked out so we could do some sightseeing. Who else does that? Only the folks at the Bishops Gate! I can’t wait to go back.

The thing that sets this hotel apart from many others is the wonderful staff - Stephanie and Kayci on reception were fabulous and nothing was too much trouble. They looked after us so well as did Michael in the restaurant/bar. All the staff were helpful and polite and super keen to ensure you had the best stay and we did. Second time we’ve stayed there and we will be back. Thanks all xx Possibly a bit more storage space in the room but not a deal breaker👍👍

From the minute we arrived the staff were so welcoming and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We had a delicious meal in the restaurant last night and breakfast this morning was fantastic. Couldn’t fault it in any way and will def be booking another stay asap!

We had coffee and scone on arrival which was delicious. Ladies at check-in were very friendly and helpful as the room was not handed back when we arrived. When room was available the check-in staff organised our luggage in the room As the bathroom was wheelchair accessible- it didn’t suit our requirements, and no space and poor light for applying makeup. No full length mirror in the room that we could see.

The bathroom was a good size but had a shower over the bath the rubber along the glass door obviously has aged so when showering the glass kept falling in on me and hitting my elbow or head. To be honest I have stayed in the merchant for around the same amount of money and it was a different level of luxury..

Everything was first class from the get go, reception, valet parking and the unexpected upgrade to a junior suite! The accommodation was fantastic, a great size, still cosy and air conditioned. We had a three course dinner and the food was excellent as was the service in the restaurant and the bar. I can't really find any fault with our stay and will most definitely be going back.

In the bathroom the shelf for products was to close to sink and there was no space for my own products. Air conditioning was loud and it was difficult to get to the window side of the bed if one person was using the dresser.

A little on the expensive side, but everywhere is nowadays!! Very warm, our room was too warm and the bathroom was like a sauna. In fairness, it was a very chilly few days and the hotel is an old building so I think they were trying to make sure guests weren’t cold.

- Nik6795 (10/5): Outstanding - I have written about this hotel a few times. A firm favourite of mine and standards are consistently high. Once again our annual Christmas Day Out as a couple landed us in this hotel for lunch and drinks. And once again the choice and quality of food, wines and cocktails was exceptional. If you have not been and like great food and drinks in lovely surroundings then this hotel is a must. They had my favourite dessert on the menu - Baked Alaska - you don’t get it in too many places. It was exceptional as was all the food ordered. A relaxing afternoon, excellent staff. I can’t wait to return.

- PatrickMcShane (10/5): The best weekend of the year. - We spent 12th & 13th Dec in the Penthouse Suite. The welcome was warm as usual and the suite was fantastic. New TV's have been put in since we last stayed and the room fridge update. The suite was spotlessly clean and comfortable and lovely touches with wine and spirits available. We had lunch in the champagne bar with friends and it was delicious. Our only regret of the weekend was leaving Bishops Gate to dine elsewhere on the Friday evening, we should have stayed. We came to the bar for a drink and the entertainment was fantastic. Breakfast both mornings was delicious and we had dinner in the bar on the Saturday night, again delicious! For Sunday lunch we had family dine in the private dining room, service was second to none and food without fault. We had a fantastic weekend. JP and team continue to provide the best hospitality, friendly atmosphere, delicious food and comfortable rooms that Derry has to offer. Can't wait until we come back again. Paddy and Kevin

- Traveler692439 (10/5): An Excellent Stay at Bishop’s Gate - My wife and I stayed on vacation - and we would go back today if we could. There’s a reason Rick Steve’s guidebook lists Bishop’s Gate as Derry’s best hotel. Our suite was spacious, warm on chilly days, comfortable, and relaxing. The bar & restaurant were impeccable, serving good food along with good service. Stephanie manned the front desk every evening we were there. She called cabs, arranged for a historical tour, and made fantastic recommendations on request - she was simply the best! The entire staff provided superior service during the length of our stay. This is a great building, but the culture of service is what we’ll remember. Wow. You get the feeling that going the “extra mile” isn’t extra for these folks - they are well trained, enjoyable to talk to, and sincerely want to help. Our thanks to Stephanie and the entire Bishop’s Gate staff. They set a high bar and made us want to stay longer.

My room was amazing. I had a comfortable king sized bed, smart tv, tea and coffee facilities. Everything you could want was there. The bathroom was spotless with a fantastic rainfall shower. I had room service because I had been walking for two days and could not have moved another step after I got to the hotel. The hake and pasta was fantastic but the lemon meringue cheesecake was superb. Two of my favourite food groups. At breakfast I went for the Eggs Benedict and the poached eggs were cooked perfectly. The server was very friendly as well. Honestly if you're coming to Derry, I would recommend this hotel. I was very impressed.

The breakfast in the morning was excellent and we even ate in the hotel restuarant for dinner which we normally never do but it was absolutely delicious. All the staff were really warm and friendly. Just an overall great stay.

The team was so accommodating from the moment we arrived until we left helping us with lots of local advice. We had the delicious a la cart breakfast in the hotel served with a smile. We were with in walking distance of good restaurants, bars, coffee shops and the famous city walls. I would highly recommend if you are staying in Derry.

- 650did (10/5): Superb Stay in a fantastic location - I am writing this review a bit later than planned, but we had another wonderful stay at the superb hotel over the jazz festival Comfortable clean rooms, fantastic central location with a great motivated team Check in is professional, friendly & welcoming Great restaurant with local produce & Breakfast is perfect We used the valet parking & Kaysi noticed that we had a slow puncture, she was absolutely fantastic at helping us to sort this, she went the extra mile when we tried to inflate it ourselves & when this failed she recommended a local garage that was open on the bank holiday which was able to get us sorted ( at a very reasonable price ) Thank you !
