Tayia (10/5): - We stayed two nights in one of the motel rooms and five nights in one of the cabins. Both were cleaned excellently and were very cozy. The cabin had a kitchenette and came stocked with pots and pans, dishware, silverware, and cooking utensils. We ate breakfast and dinner at the Powder House restaurant. We had a great experience dining in for breakfast and placing pickup orders for dinner to eat back in our motel room. All of the staff were really friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend to anyone wanting scenic lodging in the Black Hills!

Mollie (6/5): - The room was much smaller than it appeared online or was indicated in the description. Not comfortable for 2 people. There was no mention that the room we reserved was up a flight of uneven stone steps. They were lovely to look at, but with arthritis and carrying luggage it was a not safe. The person in the unit next to ours said he slipped and fell on them. Thankfully he wasn't injured. The area is lovely and it was unique to be in the log cabin feel, but it didn't turn out as I had hoped. The food at the restaurant was good.

Larisa (6/5): - Room was freezing upon arrival. Heating unit is old and very loud and you hear your neighbor’s unit kick in just as yours stops, making it’s impossible to sleep. Food at the adjacent restaurant was great with lots of options for breakfast and dinner. Wait time for dinner may be 1+ hours. We were given an option of calling ahead to be put on a wait list, but I couldn’t get past busy signal for several minutes and had to go there in person to be able to order carry out.
Louis (8/5): - The restaurant was the best place about it. Food and service were excellent and prices reasonable. The rooms were a bit dated and therefore could have used more upkeep i.e. regrouting tiles, touch up of broken wood doorways, etc. The floor was FREEZING! The heater/air conditioner was in the window and did not warm the room without having to turn it up to 78*. It was super loud so we couldn't hear the TV when it clicked on every 5 minutes. All the cabins are up on a hill so unless you wanted to walk a steep incline to the restaurant for breakfast or dinner (no lunch), you had to drive. Also, we were in a duplex so we could hear much of what happened in the room next door as I could imagine they could hear our TV. No room service as with most places now. Staff was helpful and friendly.

Holstein (6/5): - Very disappointed in the quality of food. We ( Sister and I ) ordered the Elk medallions and each received 2 chunks of Elk that were so tough that we needed a sawzaw to cut through it. IT was the worst Elk dish I have ever had at a restaurant. I should have sent it back to the kitchen but didn't want to make a scene. The mash potatoes were salty. The side salad was good though.

Susan (10/5): Powder House Lodge-Our favorite! - We loved Powder House Lodge! I wish we had had more time to spend in the Mount Rushmore area because we definitely wouldn't have minded another night here! It was clean, large, bathroom is updated, and just overall-cute. The bathroom towels/washcloths were thick and there were lots of them. They have a restaurant on the property. We ate dinner there when we arrived and breakfast the next morning. We enjoyed both meals and had very friendly staff. This hotel was a great value for our money and was the favorite place we stayed on our 2 week trip!

We ordered food from the restaurant twice while we were there and it was good! It was a convenient location for our visit to Badlands & Mt. Rushmore. We also enjoyed having our own patio to sit outside and hangout.

Rowe (7/5): Comfy one night stay - Bed was comfortable, room was clean. The staff were courteous and informative. At the restaurant, the salad and bread were delicious and the server was very nice. We had elk medallions for dinner. They were tough and not tender. We expected a better cut for the price and there was an $8.00 charge to share a plate but it did include an extra salad.. The room was very small and not what we expected, but okay for one night.

Adrienne (10/5): - The location is kind of hidden, which makes it magical. The log cabin we stayed in and as we could tell from the others, we’re very well placed so that you weren’t right on top of your neighbor. Located in the woods, beautiful view, tranquil, and a lovely front deck porch Swing. We wanted to stay another night, but they were already booked so we had to move on. We would recommend it for a two nights stay. In addition, the breakfast restaurant was very nice. We arrived too late in the evening to have dinner so I have no comment on that.

Stating cabin number 45, which is a freestanding cabin on a hillside, very private porch that backs up to a beautiful forest in Boulder Stream Hill. A mule dear was betting down back there to greet us.

Linda (10/5): Motel room - My husband liked softer pillows than what was in our room, but they were just right for me. I slept like a baby. Room was not cleaned daily, but could be replenished with amenities on a daily basis (I think this was because we were a short stay). No bother for us as I was going to request the same anyway. No one stays in their room all day in this area unless they are sick. Too much to see! Very nice and economical. Restaurant atmosphere was very nice; food was above average. I would definitely stay there again.

maria (8/5): Lovely, Lovely Setting - The setting is absolutely beautiful, up on a hill, surrounded by trees and well cared for grounds. Location is excellent, set back off the highway yet immediate access to it. The cabins are situated very nicely--no one is "jammed" in with their neighbor. The restaurant on premises (just as you enter off the main road) was phenomenal. Excellent food and service; lovely setting! Our cabin had a livingroom, bedroom and loft and I believe it sleeps 8. We were 3 and it felt "smallish." The kitchenette is tiny.Hardly any counterspace. Microwave, coffeemaker and mini (very mini) fridge looked like a kid's play kitchen. There is a round table with 3 chairs only--worked for us but a larger group would have to take turns. We made this work by having only coffee, donuts and danish in our cabin. There is 1 wall AC in the living room/kitchenette area. Despite the temperature outside being cool at night, the AC could not reach the bedroom or loft. The loft was particularly warm/uncomfortable. One of us ended up using the sofabed in the living room instead of the bed in the loft. If we closed our bedroom door, it was quite warm so we slept with that door open as well even though hardly any cool air reached the room. Bathroom was clean and towels were plentiful The wall knob for the heater there didn't work. We reported it the same day we arrived. No one came by...at least not during our stay.
