Guest Reviews
- Catherine (9/5): Lovely spot and very convenient - Lovely, spacious room. Super clean. Bedding felt divine. The shared kitchen space was a treat. Would have been good to have another little table along a wall. Not essential at all, just a thought. I didn't like facing the driveway entrance as we needed to keep the curtains closed and couldn't enjoy the verandah. I didn't quite realise this until we arrived
- Surya (10/5): -
- Jessica (8/5): A real villa - Nice room, convenient location, lovely hostess.
- Elizabeth (10/5): -
- Charlie (9/5): -
- Mark (10/5): - Well presented property
- Matt (8/5): -
- Graeme (8/5): Comfortable , great location would definitely look at staying again - great location, easy to find, lots of parking, perfect for our nights stay. The security lights came on quite frequently through the night , I think maybe cats setting them off?
Otherwise we were very happy with everything .
- Michelle (10/5): -
- Lee-Anne (10/5): - The decor and setting was a beautiful surprise. I don't know what I expected but this exceeded it for me. The bed was one of the most comfortable I have ever slept in and the added touch of warming the room prior to our return at night was hugely appreciated.
Will definitely return when next in Cambridge and I have no hesitation in recommending anyone to stay here.
- Jennifer (10/5): - We were only there for the night.
Great place to stay after arriving back from Overseas before travelling down to the Bay
Would fully recommend the Villa Shakespeare lovely spot and surroundings spotless accommadation and super comfy mattress and pillows. Great kitchen facilities for breakfast and meals. Would definitely stay again
- Chris (8/5): It suited our needs. - Warm, clean comfortable room. The kitchen facilities were fine. The re-stocking of breakfast was sparse. No contact with staff whatsoever. Very impersonal.
- Michele (9/5): -
- Denise (9/5): -
- Nicola (9/5): Thank you for making this available at quite short notice. - This was a repeat visit having stayed 3 months prior.
We enjoy the peacefulness of this property as well as the locality and convenience to the town centre as well as the Karapiro Event Centre on this occasion. We were able to communicate easily with the owner who lives off site. Nil

- Joliz (9/5): - The room was lovely the seperated shared little garden kitchen was stocked with cereal milk, coffee. Very private. We walked across the beautiful bridge into Cambridge. Very nice stay, did not even see the host. But she kept InTouch via the app and accommodated for our late entry early departure. The GPS took us around into the street behind, I have reported this to google tho so hopefully will be rectified.
- Gary (10/5): Fabulous and our host April was very accommodating - The space the cleanliness and the facilities were awesome Nothing it suited everything we were looking for
- Ella (10/5): A lovely peaceful room in a quaint villa. Great facilities. We’d stay here again. - Lovely room with peaceful outlook into the garden.
- Patricia (10/5): I happened upon this accommodation by accident and loved staying here. - It is a lovely peaceful place to stay and tastefully decorated and landscaped. Ideal for people who are travelling long distances and need a good resting point. Everything was great
- Mike (9/5): A lovely comfortable place to stay if you are in Cambridge. - It was something a little different. The bed was very comfortable and the shower pressure excellent. We loved the little kitchen hut that was so well set out with breakfast foods. A real added bonus. Nothing.
- Kirsten (10/5): Fantastic, Serene Villa - April is such a friendly host.
Breakfast provided.
Fresh towels daily
Quiet surroundings
Beautifully manicured garden/lawn area
Gorgeous villa The bed was a little hard.
- Annette (10/5): Absolutely Beautiful - The photos online did the room no justice the room I stayed in was absolutely beautiful. Nothing like the photos, it was very comfortable and clean, having a separate kitchen that was available all the time was very handy. It’s so close Lake Karapiro also to supermarkets and eateries. April was so lovely and accommodating even when I was running late for our checkin time. Thank you Villa Shakespeare highly recommended and would definitely stay again. Nil

The room was pleasant and had coffee and tea facilities (including milk in the fridge). A beautiful courtyard area with a fountain. There's a great kitchen area to microwave or get other coffees. Explored the nearby town of Cambridge the next day and had a lovely time Nothing

- Amanda (10/5): - Easy check in comfortable stay
- Mary (9/5): Lovely B&B house and host. Accommodation was comfortable and location was good. - Very nice accommodation just a short distance from "downtown" Cambridge. We used it as our base (as we traveled from Auckland to Rotorua) for going to the Waitomo glowworms caves (an easy 1 hour drive) and to Hobbiton (only about 20-30 minutes away). The room we had was big with a king bed and en-suite bathroom, with two chairs, coffee, tea, and cups, and water glasses. The nearby shared kitchen had a full-size refrigerator/freezer (so we could freeze the ice we used for our travel cooler) and breakfast items were provided including yogurt, oatmeal, bread, coffee, tea. It's located just off a main road and parking was easy. There was a lovely sitting area with a fountain. They even cleaned our room each night! We were planning to do laundry but the host had an emergency and couldn't be on site, so laundry wasn't available at the time we were there.
- Jean (10/5): We have been before several times and will come again - All good. Great that it is available at one’s convenience. Toaster wasn’t working properly but this was reported to April
- Lorraine (8/5): - Beautiful No fly screens.
- Greg (7/5): Beautiful house but poorly equipped - Nice old house. Convenient parking for a quick one-night stay but unsuitable for a holiday. Bring your own everything - even tissues. There's a shared kitchen but I couldn't find any dishes or cutlery. No desk.
- Lena (10/5): -
- Doug (8/5): Good location,very relaxing stay... -
- Jean-Francois (9/5): Bonne étape - Propre, calme et confortable. Pas de clim mais pas besoin.
- Christine (10/5): -
- Lynn (7/5): Venue/grounds peaceful - excellent location for us and why we were in cambridge overnight for - No Breakfast Involved ! Milk out of date - not enough teabags and other to enjoy a cuppa late at night and in the morning
- Graeme (9/5): -
- Jeremy (8/5): - Very pokey bathroom

- Te Wai (10/5): Peacful and relaxing - Tucked in behind the Waikato River, away from the hustle and bustle of Cambridge township, I was pleasantly surprised by Villa Shakespeare. Small and dosages of retreat, retreat, retreat. A wonderful space and creative space for writers and fine artists to relax and allow the imagination to bloom. A secret, a magical place for the weary. We were unable to stay longer😳
- Nicola (9/5): Would recommend to anyone staying in Cambridge if you want to be away from the hustle and bustle of the urban area. - The cottage was private, quiet and comfortable
Conveniently located to the wedding reception at Mystery Creek Nothing to dislike
- Freeman (8/5): - Have stayed at this property before and enjoy its location to Karapiro and easy access in and out Nothing its great value for money spent
- Bridget (10/5): Grand old villa with five independent bedroom options and configurations. - We booked three lovely, well appointed rooms in historic old Villa. On a busy road, but up a long drive, so quiet. Plenty of breakfast options. Clean and comfortable with nice touches. April was very friendly and approachable. Might pay to check some expiry dates on fridge contents, but plenty of breakfast options, so no real issue.
- Greg (9/5): -
- Birinder Pal (10/5): -
- Simon (8/5): -
- Sue (10/5): - The room was great. Facilities great.
Host was awesome.
- Mārie (10/5): Gorgeous stay. - It was a gorgeous stay. My son and I lov3d how clean and tidy everything was. It was peaceful and just gorgeous for us. We felt like we were at a retreat. We didn't get to spend all our time there as we were in Camvridge for waka ama but it was so good to come back to a clean and peaceful safe place to stay.
- raewyn (10/5): Absolutely loved it and will be repeating - Host was totally fabulous.. went out of her way to accomodate us.. loved the setting and attention to detail in the rooms The period furniture in our wonderful mid summer room was brilliant but maybe a comfortable chair somewhere as well
- Debbie (8/5): - A quiet location close to everything we needed. Everything was fine.
- Delwyn (9/5): Thanks ever so much. - The location, quietness, warm welcome, comfort. Do you have a purpose - built disabled room? With my husbands increasing health needs, I found the bathroom difficult to work in.
- Hale (10/5): Lovely spot to stay for short stays nice and clean and comfortable - Easy to find clean and comfortable Nothing was great place to stay overnight
- Jeannetta (9/5): Great place to stay. Will return - Excellent selection of continental breakfast
- Szilvia (9/5): Good location - It was a peaceful part of the town, but supermarket so close. The shared kitchen was ok too.
- Glenise (9/5): Break away - Beautiful quiet peaceful place to stay. Lovely little breakfast room with seats and a table outside to enjoy the garden. Very clean, comfortable and our host was helpful and pleasant. Definitely keen to stay again.
- Comber (9/5): Cambridge is a town we always enjoy. Our Christmas dinner at Clements Hotel was world class. - Nice central location. Room and facilities to a very high standard. You have a lovely room for breakfast with very good facilities. Unfortunately on the first morning there was no milk, also the margarine was nearly finished as was the jams - the only disappointment of the stay.
- Anya (10/5): -
- khartik (10/5): -
- Tao (8/5): - house, yards the wash room is a bit too small
- Robyn (9/5): A very nice lace to stay, quiet, clean, great value for money. Highly recommend. - Helpful staff, April gave clear instructions and followed up quickly on any question I had. Great location. Lovely setting. Bed was very firm.
- Graham (9/5): Perfect spot for a short stay in Cambridge - Very quiet and very conveniently located to the town centre. Bed was very comfortable and the bathroom facilities were clean and everything you needed - good shower pressure. There was even a wee cabin on the property that could be used to prepare light meals and breakfast. Nothing
- Anya (8/5): -
- Gloria (9/5): We enjoyed our stay the cottage was quaint and comfortable - We didn’t have breakfast
- SARAH (9/5): Clean, comfortable and handy to town. - Great spot, walking distance to town. Spacious rooms and good areas to sit outside.
- Kathy Nickels (9/5): Lovely room in Cambridge - The Villa Shakespeare is a lovely property. The room was a good size and very comfortable. We especially appreciated the room being left open for us as our plane arrived very late in Auckland. The owners were very easy to contact and we appreciated their assistance in making our check in much easier late at night. Though we literally were only passing through, Cambridge is a lovely little town. Great breakfast at Absolute Coffee House. The bathroom set up didn't really work for us. There was really nowhere to put our toiletries and the water glass holder on either side of the sink just got in the way. That small space could have been better utilized with a shelf or something to put a few things on for a one night stay. It was dark when we arrived so it was a little difficult to find the property. Our GPS was trying to take us to the street behind. In the daylight I imagine it would have been much easier to see the sign.
- Rina Gouws (10/5): Short stay in Cambridge - Beautiful room, clean and exactly what we hoped for.
- TechniPharm (8/5): great stay easy access and lovely setting - great location handy to town ( walk)
- Louis (6/5): - Scenic setting 1. Bed, 2. lack of info on arrival. Was not aware of kitchen. 3 Small cramped in.
- Lucy (9/5): Timeless elegance and quiet stay - Lovely old villa that has been well maintained; charm enhanced by garden with lavender, roses and colourful flowers. Beautiful outdoor seating There was no microwave in the room to heat food but we later found out there is a kitchen outside with amenities for guests to use.
- Anne Caton (7/5): - Very quiet. Attractive house and garden. Everything provided Lack of anywhere to put things in the bathroom - sponge bag, toothpaste and other supplies.
- Justin (10/5): -
- C Thompson (8/5): A great location with comfy beds near facilities - This property was at the right place for what we were doing in the three days we were there. It was sunny and we enjoyed the outdoor setting and kitchen cottage with the breakfast things that were kindly provided. The host was helpful and kind.
- Janine (10/5): - Elegant room, beautiful setting
- Phillipa (10/5): April is always lovely to deal with. Great location, nice and quiet. Very clean. - Location, cleanliness and comfortable Nothing
