Guest Reviews
- Jean (10/5): - Amazing relaxing onsen, nearby forest bathing, amazing views, good breakfast
- Suzanne (10/5): Saw deer feeding outside lounge area - large area for viewing outside with seeds out for birds - near nice nature walk p - Location wildlife onsen good Nothing
- Professor Lois (8/5): It was a great location but too expensive for what you got - Location room and onsen The cost was too high really and having to order dinner before we got there.
- Chan (10/5): Great - Great
- Sally (10/5): Amazing stay and food, definitely recommended! - Amazind dinner a la carte, but the strong point is the breakfast, is buffet with a lot of choices. The room was clean and the private onsen a very gem! Thanks for the staff, they were all extremely friendly even if they didn't speak english The room was very clean but bare in mind there is no shower in the room, just toilet and sink.
- Mary (10/5): Wonderful Forest Gem - Staying at Moritsubetsu was one of our highlights during our five week holiday in Japan. This quaint, traditional little inn was within walking distance to the beautiful forest bathing areas nearby and within driving distance to Akan Mashu. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the common areas were warm and welcoming. The rooms were clean, and the beds comfortable. The meals were outstanding. We felt so spoiled staying in this little gem in the forest. We stayed two nights, and wished we could have stayed longer. Everything was wonderful!
- Bjoern (10/5): -
- Eric (10/5): - It was a complete forest retreat that was beautiful in autumn. They have a few trails you can walk from the entrance and they’re all easy. You can even see deers and raccoons from the main hall in the evening
The staff were also very quick and helpful with translations. Wished there was a shower nearer to our room, but that might be unavoidable given the traditional layout of onsen hotels.
- Laurent (9/5): -
- Fiona (9/5): Peaceful location - The location is beautiful, tucked away with nature all around it. The restaurant staff were amazing and cooked me a special vegetarian meal every night. I loved it but you need a car and to be prepared to drive to see sights.
- Yoram (10/5): - We had a wonderful 3-nights stay at Lamp No Yado Moritsubetsu. We were two couples and took two Japanese-style rooms, both of which were spacious, spotless, and very comfortable. The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating, making us feel very welcome from the start. The setting is beautiful—peaceful, quiet, and surrounded by lush greenery.
The hotel also has a beautifully designed and well-kept onsen, perfect for relaxing after a day outdoors. We enjoyed the large community room with relaxing massage chairs and games. Breakfast was delicious, with many different dishes.
The location couldn’t be better for hiking and sightseeing in the nearby parks. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking to enjoy nature, warm hospitality, and a truly relaxing experience.
- Remko (9/5): Tranquility - Amazing place with a very nice restaurant with a view in to the “forest garden” with wildlife that comes to visit. Very nice onsen outside.
- endo (8/5): -
- Benedetta (9/5): - It is the only building along the road so you are able to see wild animals from the large windows. In the onsen there is also an outside bathtube very relaxing with the sound of the forest around. We added the dinner as it was amazing. Nothing
- Tsuneo (8/5): -
- Svenja (9/5): - Sehr leckeres Abendessen, schöne Onsen, ruhige Umgebung, große Zimmer Die Tiere werden angefüttert
- Didier (10/5): great location and very comfortable room -
- Nancy (10/5): Cute cute cute place in the forest! - I loved almost everything about this place - how it’s tucked away in nature, it’s quiet, there’s onsens, spacious rooms, friendly, polite and helpful staff, cute stuffed animals for sale… It was just a little too far from the nearest restaurant. I didn’t have a dinner included with my stay but in hindsight, I should’ve just gotten the dinner package instead of doing a la carte in the hotel’s restaurant. The food was good but the menu was a bit limited…
Rien, merci !
- Pornkanok (10/5): One of the best natural getaway onsen resort in Hokkaido. - The onsen came with different tubs of different water temperature with a private outdoor section. The restaurant offers splendid fine cuisine that you order about a week before arrival. The staff was professional, friendly and extremely heartwarming. We came with our car so this was not our problem, but it's hard to get here if without one.
- Li (10/5): Exceptional - Situated in a forest. It has a peaceful and relax feel. The onsen are very good. The food served are amazing. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. You can see many wild lives here. Everything is good.
- Bettina (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was perfect! The hotel is located in the middle of the forest with walking paths around it. Great onsen with inside and outdoor pools. Food was amazing
- Kevin (8/5): - Beautiful location. Helpful staff. Rooms were spacious and comfortable. Meals were delicious and convenient.
- Sio (8/5): Very good -
- Constanze (10/5): Einfach Abschalten!
- Céline (10/5): A peaceful place in the middle of the forest, close to Akan National Park - The entrance to the hotel gave us the impression of arriving in an enchanted house in the middle of the forest, it was beautiful!
Moreover, we chose a Japanese style room and we slept like babies.
The women's onsen was also perfect: several hot baths, a cold one to give us energy, a sauna and a magnificent outdoor bath which again gave us the feeling of bathing in the middle of the forest.
Breakfast was amazing too. Lots of choice, everything was neat and delicious. We loved the atmosphere and the view on the garden.
And last but not least, the staff was really helpful and lovely from start to finish! :)
- yi (10/5): - good
- Ting (10/5): An excellent resort for a retreat without too many tourists - Nestled in the heart of the forest, this hotel offers a serene escape with luxurious comfort, and a perfect blend of nature and relaxation. A long and not easy drive to the hotel
- Camille (9/5): Superb -
- Greyhound (9/5): A Forest Gem - We stayed 2 nights in a large, comfortable Japanese style room with pretty forest views. Amazing dining room, which felt as if we were dining amoung the trees. Beautiful, quiet indoor & outdoor onsen.
Best of all, great communication beforehand from the hotel re food (they're off the beaten track!) They produced an AMAZING vegetarian meal for us, which felt really special
The service was excellent. Lovely buffet breakfasts.
Really great value for money - highly recommended! The hotel is in a beautiful, secluded location which suited us but is about 45mins from Akando and Mashuko.
- Leo (7/5): Not a must to try - Landscape and food Location and cleanliness
- Noya (10/5): Exceptional -
- Roman (9/5): Superb -
- Nathan (9/5): Superb - Beautiful hotel, great onsen but no private shower in room. Dinner was great, although a little confusing for an inexperienced non-japanese person, but the staff were really helpful.
Lovely shared area where you can watch wildlife. Walks in the woods near the hotel were really nice
- Chan (9/5): Onsen hotel in a nature reserve - Have a nice walking trail near hotel. Very near to nature, animals and woods. Awesome experience Nil
- Verified traveler (4/5):
- Helen (10/5): Great hotel close to Lake Kussharo - Great location to explore Akan Mashu NP. Good size rooms. Great onsen. Delicious dinners. Friendly staff. Having a continental breakfast option.
- Isabelle (10/5): - A very nice ryokan in a remote place perfect to unwind, nice onsen, very good and service. Rooms are big and comfortable
- Thibaud (10/5): Exceptional -
- Verified traveler (2/5): -
- Phillip (10/5): Like Staying in a Forest - Beautiful location, very quiet, big, comfortable rooms, great onsen, superb food.
- douglas (8/5): Quiet and nice room. - Everything is good except the directions. Need to change the direction. Breakfast is very simple. Dinner is excellent.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice hotel in forest - Very nice to see animals.
A bit far because a short cut to lake kushiro is blocked. Not sure when will the road open again.
Highly recommended if u like to see animals and sea clouds. In my trip the weather was cloudy and i wasnt able to see sea clouds up at the mountain which is just 15mins drive.
U can enjoy nice onsen here and have a short walk in the forest. We enjoy walking so much in the morning as its quiet and healing.
Food is not very surpisingly good. But its okay! We had shabu shabu at night and japanese style buffet in morning.
We would like to come again next time. Maybe in another season hoping to see animals and sea clouds next time.
- Louise (8/5): Great food and nice baths! - We picked this hotel as we wanted to visit Akan National Park but didn't fancy the resort towns of Akanko Onsen and the other town (sorry, can't recall the name). This hotel appealed because of its relative isolation and if you have a car then you can drive to Akanko Onsen (about 1 hr) or wherever you want to be to go hiking etc. It wasn't quite as romantic and isolated as we'd imagined though - the front looks more like a Premier Inn (the photos are taken from the back which I have to admit does have a very lovely view of the woods). We also somehow imagined it was a small cosy place down a little track in the woods when in reality it's medium sized hotel at the end of medium sized road (but still in the woods). That said, it really grew on us after our initial disappointment as we pulled up outside. Staff were friendly, Japanese style room was very clean (although the little heaters do smell of petrol), it had a nice little communal area that you can chill out in, and the male and female onsen are great! Both include outdoor pools. And if you want to be together then you can book the private bath for an hour (which costs 2000 yen). The thing we really liked though was the food - really wonderful, Japanese food. We had breakfast and dinner included in our rate and looked. It rate seemed very expensive when I booked it but after experiencing the meals we thought it was well worth it, if you like traditional Japanese food (we do!). A cross between a hotel and a ryokan.
- Poh Guan (10/5): Great hotel in tranquil surroundings. - Nice, quiet and clean hotel with peaceful surroundings. Polite staff and great dinner.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Beutiful - Excellent ryokon. Baths were the best we have been too. A but hard to find, ourphone gps took us over 40 miles in wrong direction. Mapquest got us to the location. The stay was excellent, all you could ask for. Did not want to take yakatta off.
