The room was large, comfortable and clean and the pool area was very relaxing. I had several meals, including breakfast, and all were very nice. I would highly recommend this hotel and the staff.

- rick (8/5): Nice hotel, very chic. - Overall the property is absolutely stunning from the outside. The room we had was a double, Room 2 facing into the beautiful garden. The room was not large but equipped with all the normal western features. Being a part time citizen of Asia I’ve grown accustomed to sprayers in the toilet and this hotel was not so equipped. Additionally the rooms are showing wear and tear. Our A/C leaked all over our clothes and was not sufficient to keep the room cool. We asked for repairs but..... didn’t happen. One thing about the room I really loved was the minibar was all FREE! I’ve never seen this before! Free juice, free sodas, free snacks. Nice touch. Overall 3.5 stars

The staff were really attentive and helpful and didn’t hesitate to offer us a new room when our air con broke down. I would definitely recommend this lovely place and would certainly stay again. They also had the best croissants of our entire trip!

- Ole John (6/5): Room for improvement - Dinner in restaurant was a disappointment. I am happy to pay the high prices for good quality food but this fell short. Tough steak; lumps of ice in my sorbet. The food should have been returned to the kitchen but I was too tired to make an issue of it. Good wine. The room as before, is comfortable and pleasant. Restaurant serving staff could do with more training, the standard fell short of expectations for a holes of Ansara's standing.
- Peter (8/5): - We stayed at the Ansara on 3 separate occasions during our Laos trip - 2 x 1 night stays in a standard room, and a multiple night stay in a suite. Both room types were excellent, and relatively good value. The suite was superb. Location is good in the old quarter and close to the night market (if you are into that sort of thing). Hotel facilities are generally good. If I were being picky, the pool water can be very warm and not that refreshing, and the pool area could do with some more shade, but I don't see that as a reason not to stay there. Breakfast quality is so-so. Restaurant is very pricey and seems to serve only European fare, so there is really no reason to eat there if you are after local cuisine as there are plenty of other good options close by.

Ansara can be categorised as Small and luxury hotel. Got a special rate from expedia. Value for money. Reasonable airport transfer rates. decent breakfast. Nice pool (it was too cold when I was there).
- Deborah (6/5): Large, clean and great location. - Was disappointed when we checked in as we tried to order some food to the suite and the power was out in the kitchen (so they said but apparently it was back on at 6.30 pm) and staff had to call our room twice to understand what we wanted to order..... As it was a French restaurant I would have thought the staff would know what a croque monsieur was!! As we had stayed in other areas in Laos before getting to the capital (Vientiane) the staff at these other towns understood us really well, arriving to a big hotel like Ansara and no one being able to understand a simple room service order was really disappointing and frustrating!!

- Verified traveler (10/5): Great hotel, a minute's walk from the Night Market - Lovely hotel. Very centrally located, just a minute's walk from the night market and the Mekong. Spacious rooms with nice bahrooms (mine had a walk in shower, whilst my friend's room had a shower over a tub. Rooms have balconies which overlook pretty landscaped gardens and a small pool, and the temple next door, which was interesting also. Vientiane is very laid back and there are not so many sights, so this hotel is perfect for morning tours and afternoon relaxation. Close to some nice bars and restaurants also. The staff spoke good English and were very helpful.
- Jane (10/5): A gem of a boutique hotel - This is an attractive, small boutique hotel in a centrally-located part of the city, close to the best handicraft stores and top restaurants. The rooms and baths were nicely appointed, and the hotel had a pleasant pool area and good restaurant. When I left my computer cord in the room, the hotel called the driver of our airport shuttle and sent a man on a motorcycle with the cord to rendezvous with us. That is what I call excellent service!
- IDA (10/5): Kid friendly luxury - We had a lovely stay at The Ansara and the suite room was perfect for traveling with a toddler with an early bedtime. The staff were great for arranging everything from airport transfers to a taxi to take us to Buddha Park. We greatly enjoyed the breakfast as well and the items changed a bit each day. Easy walking distance to many sites and nice places to eat!
- Rachel (6/5): Lovely hotel, but some issues - We booked the Ansara as our splurge stay at the end of a trip in Laos, and while the hotel was lovely, I'm not sure it warranted the $150 price tag. The pool was fine but no bar service out there, and the room was comfortable but quite small. The highlight was the restaurant/bar manager, who was very personable and provided great service. However, we did have a truly awful experience as well: We returned to our hotel around 11 pm and walked to our room, accessed through the yard. Apparently they had just sprayed some sort of pesticide or fertilizer, because we were literally gassed. We started coughing violently, couldn't breathe, and ran to our room. In the room we continued to cough for some minutes, and I even threw up from coughing so hard. Not cool. The staff should give out gas masks (or just warn guests) when they're spraying deadly chemicals around the yard. So overall a nice place, but not worth the steep price tag (or death of brain cells and/or lung damage) in my opinion.

- Andrew (8/5): Lovely Spot - The breakfast was delicious, I didn't love the coffee, but it was good quality coffee Southeast Asian style, which to me always seems too finely ground so it's on the muddy side. The mosquitos meant business too. It would be nice if the burned some mosquito coils in the morning and evening outside the room doors.
- Karen (10/5): Ansara - a lovely heritage hotel in great location - We loved our stay at the Ansara. A lovely Boutique hotel situated close to the river. The hotel has beautiful grounds and a great pool to relax in. The rooms are very clean, well appointed & comfortable, but situated in a new add on portion behind the heritage building. Breakfasts which are included were amazing and are a wonderful way to start the day. Dinner was also excellent - good value - lovely meal in a great setting. Staff were professional.
