- Daniela (7/5): Good -
- Mary (10/5): Really great experience with wonderful hosts - Very beautiful and clean property and located centrally in Quito’s historic district
- Roohi (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ronnie (9/5): Superb - Great location with everything within relative walking distance. Room was spacious. Owner was great and very welcoming and helpful.
- Luke (10/5): A beautiful place to stay - Brilliantly friendly and accommodating host! The location is central for all parts of the city. Facilities modern and functional while being in an authentically charming building. Very happy to have found this place!
- robert (8/5): Great location if you don't mind the hike - Cesar was warm and very inviting and a pleasure to get to chat with. Blue door is very close to voto nacional and other great sites, but it does sit very high on a hill which makes exploring on foot a little tougher. Nights in quito get quite cold and it can be especially rough walking to a seperate shared bathroom, although the water pressure was great with plenty of hot water.
- Beatriz (10/5): Exceptional -
- Celeste (10/5): Great stay and great people - Blue Door is a lovely place. I was comfortable and had what I needed for my stay. Cesar was an excellent host and checked in on me to see if I needed anything. He was very helpful and is super nice. I didn't get to meet his wife until the ride to the airport but she is very sweet and we had a wonderful conversation during the ride.
- Fire0fdrag0n (10/5): Nice affordable place to stay near historic central. - Warm blanket and comfortable bed. Affordable price. Good location. Walkable to center. Can park on street. Nothing with this price. No complain.
- Domenico (8/5): Nice colonial house in a centric place and very kind hosts. - The house, the location and the hosts, really really kind and attentive. No hot water in the shower.
- Tobias (10/5): César has a nice place and is a good guy in case u need help. Thanks for all -
- Shane (10/5): Exceptional - Fantastic place right in the heart of Quito
- Daniel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Troy (10/5): Could not have asked for more. Dont hesitate to stay here. - Everything about my stay exceeded my expectations. The value for what you get cannot be beat. Caesar and his wife are so incredibly nice and accommodating. They truly go out of their way to make your stay the best that they can. The breakfast was fantastic, the check in was seamless. They even offer after hours pickup for a reasonable cost and takes all the worry out of what transportation to take from the airport. If my travels ever take me to Quito again, I will definitely be going back to see them again. Thank you for all you did for me, I am glad to know I have a friend in Ecuador. Blessings to you both. Cannot think of anything that I did not like. They truly have everything covered
- Tulane (8/5): quiet and comfortable stay - the hosts went out of their way to help and be accommodating :) breakfast is advertised but I didn’t get any
the hygiene of other guests - not their fault!
- Daryl (9/5): Very friendly staff! - cool building and comfortable bed. Staff was very friendly and helpful! I would stay again. no heat so a bit cold. Enough blankets to stay warm. I also wish they had drinking water available.
- Luis (10/5): - The staff, the family that owns the property, were excellent. There is just no other place to stay, unless you want to get ripped off at a boutique chain hotel. Affordable and convenient to everything, especially the Quito landmarks!
- George (8/5): Very good -
- Kieran (9/5): Superb - Fantastic owners who were very friendly and very helpful during my stay.
Very comfortable bed. Spacious room. Peaceful setting Local streets are very quiet at night so one should take taxis from/to the hotel
- Fred (9/5): Beautiful murals and colorful interior decorations. -
- Ascha (10/5): Amazing hosts, cute guesthouse in a very good location! - Lovely, super helpful hosts, picked us up personally from the airport and were happy to help with any recommendations.
Spacious rooms.
Located at the top of the hill, easy to walk down to the city center (up maybe recommended to take a taxi)
- Bridget (10/5): Exceptional - I look forward to staying here again someday. From the moment of my arrival, the owners Cesar and Hermania made me feel very welcome and safe. They helped me make the best of the one day I had in Quito as well with great suggestions. I am grateful for my stay at Blue Door. Thank you
- John (8/5): Blue Door - I'll be back..👍 - The friendliness and warmth of the hosts - they could be more friendly and helpful. Blue Door is an arty, warm place, nice ambience... Despite visitor numbers being down there's a nice calming, friendly vibe here. Calming, pleasant music playing all day in the sunny and plant lined inner courtyard.
Well appointed, spacious kitchen.. 👍
Internet / WiFi is good when you're neat the router - around 10Mbps in most areas, sometimes as high as 60Mbps near the main router. Blue Door has many atractive thick brick walls - great for classic ambience, but if you're sitting on the other side of one, the wifi signal strength can be weak. But a good signal is always easy to find The showers can be a little frustrating, cycling hot and cold and needing constant adjustment for that satisfying constant temperature. There's tons of hot water, - gas califonts provide endless hot water, but can be tricky when not perfectly set up.
Tip: If you're wanting stunning views and luxury book/request the top floor apartment.
- Marjo (10/5): Excellent - The room was really comfortable, clean and quiet and we even got a heater. Also hot water in the shower. The location is near historic center and Basilica. The family who runs the hotel is super nice and helpful. We highly recommend this place!
- Verified traveler (10/5): A very interesting visit... - It could have been a bad start, but the family who runs BDH made it right and did so quickly. The room we reserved was taken, so we were somewhat disappointed. However the owner responded immediately and gave us a different room. Pluses: we did get a room. We got it immediately within minutes on a national holiday and at 9am (a very early check-in). We made it to our 10 am walking tour (also pre booked). Later we sat in the open courtyard where guests shared wine, tea, banana bread, eggplant lasagna, and good conversation. One guest was a BBC reporter. Guests were from Canada, South Africa, USA, Russia so indeed a very eclectic mix. Just up the street from the basilica which is visible from all of Quito. Very quiet. Felt very safe. We recommend BDH.
- Nancy (10/5): - Very accomadating hosts, owners. Made me feel very at home and safe. Picked me up from airport for standard fee. Very helpful in anything I needed, genuine and warm people that really care and enjoy helping! They were right there ready to serve! I will always go there on the future!!
- Linda (10/5): Nice and helpful staff! - Very nice and welcoming owners! Nice breakfast, but not included. The area is safe with short walking distance to the historic area.
- Aida (10/5): A home away from home - The inside recoration was great, loved the remodeled modern bathrooms, and was very close to main attractions. The owner was friendly, kind, knowledgeable and with a good spirit. He cares to know you as a person not as a tourist. The neighborhood was safe and people were very helpful. Very affordable.
- Consuelo (8/5): - Todo muy bien. Muy amables
- Verified traveler (8/5): Family friendly hotel near the historical centre - A very friendly hotel. The staff were approachable and the area was very close to the historical centre.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Clean and very friendly owners! - We had a great day! We were there 3 nights. The shower was leaking and was fixed right away the next day. We went for a day tour with them and it was awesome! We would definitely stay here again!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Big room and the owner and family are supper nice and friendly. A home vibe.
Wifi ottimo. Prezzo indegno.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Long walk up but central and nice - Long uphill walk from centro historico but centrally located between there and mariscal. Very comfortable by hostal standards. Very friendly staff. beautiful building and courtyard. Convenient and well equipped shared kitchen. Some rooms with private baths. Others share 2 baths in courtyard. Breakfast for $3 available at affiliated hostal across the street also very friendly and personal.
- Gabriel (8/5): Friendly owner and quiet neighborhood - Owner was very friendly and was willing to help out when he was around. He sometimes was hard to find as he would have to run between different hostels they run or run the tours they provide to guests. Each day we were there the bathrooms ran out of toilet paper and we couldn't find anyone to replace it and would have to wait for the family to return in the evening to refill.
Room was large and spacious with 3 beds in our accommodation (double/twin bunk and a single twin) and a desk/chair which was nice to have in the room. Our door didn't lock, but the hotel was safe and the owners offered us a locker just outside our room to lock our valuables. The shared bathroom was clean, however the hot water was a little annoying - it runs on an electric shower head heater, but if you turned the water up for pressure the heater couldn't keep up with the amount of water so it was either cold or a low pressure shower with warm water. The owner did mention they are currently renovating and building out new bathrooms (there will be more than 1 shared now) and a new larger kitchen.
Neighborhood was safe and quiet, but not too much nearby. There were a few restaurants a couple blocks away and bodegas on several of the corners. Downtown sites were 15 walking down hill or a $2-3 USD taxi ride.
