Guest Reviews
- Richards (10/5): Perfect - Peaceful and beautiful. Close to the river.coolest cabin! My kids had so much fun pretending in this beautiful cabin. The staff is amazing. The food is amazing. It was just right.
- Richards (10/5): Perfect - It was so peaceful and so beautiful. Juanita was an amazing cook! We enjoyed every minute. Mike is the kindest gentlest host. We had wonderful chats with him and it was so fun to get to know these beautiful local people as well as their beautiful country. It was so close to amazing ruins and natural adventures. We enjoyed every minute.
- Kate (7/5): - The setting was nice by the river. It was very kind of them to provide free drinking water, as it would be quite difficult to buy given its out of town location. Hammocks by the river were very nice. The breakfast was quite expensive for what it was and a little awkward to arrange to eat so early to be able to leave for the tours. Additional house keeping would be useful when staying more than 2 nights.
- Harvey (8/5): Staff was wonderful, quite night, would take friends back forsure - Very very quite We were there when it was raining, room was a little cool, but all good
- Amber (8/5): -
- Caroline (6/5): This place could be wonderful if it was a little better maintained. - I liked the traditional cottages which were cool and I loved this place for its quietness. I liked the proximity of the river although I didn't swim in it because the water level was too low for access. Every morning no matter how early, good hot coffee was always available. I was very happy to enjoy this modest place in a natural environment. The first days, I didn't have breakfast because I had to leave too early. On the last day, I was promised to get some breakfast, but there was nothing. I had some laundry done but it was plenty of soap when it returned. In the bathroom, furniture was broken or not present. Every evening, loud music could be heard from the neighbourhood.
- Paweł (10/5): the best place for staying close to San Ignacio. Mike is making that place unBELIZEable - great location, you feel like you're in the jungle. there is a great river where you can swim and also a jumping platform with a rope. If you want to go to San Ignacio you can catch a taxi right on the street. If I want to ever back to this region, it would be only to Cohune Palms River Cabanas. The owner Mike is very helpful and the conversation is like with a good friend. nothing.
- Julie (8/5): Authentic and welcoming jungle escape. - The staff were super helpful and friendly. We loved having breakfast outside and swimming in the river. The neighbors music was too loud.
- Kevin (8/5): Staff was very nice - Riverside, lots to do in Bulletree No AC was a lot like camping, mosquitoes
- Pierre (10/5): Mike and staff were excellent hosts. Our family of 4 enjoyed our stay in the Agouti Cabana. - Loved the authentic cabanas and relaxing in the common areas. Very peaceful. Meals were all great and we liked being able to get a cold beer or other drinks at the bar.
- Andrea (8/5): Quaint, peaceful, and private. - We LOVED the rope swing into the river! We loved seeing the monkeys in the trees. Mike (the owner) was awesome! He accommodated our last minute booking and early departure the next day with no issues or complaints. We enjoyed our conversations with him at the bar. The shower is cold water.
- Oksana (8/5): Very good - Location was good, quite remote, in the beautiful settings, far from hassle of the town. Easy to get to town if you have a car. Staff very pleasant, addressed our concerns promptly, offered extra service, as laundry, arranging trips, etc. Coffee freshly brewed every morning was great. Cabanas need some upgrades. Nowhere to put the belongings. It would be nice to add a few hooks or open shelves. There were drawers but had a musty smell, we didn’t want to put our clothes in.
- Nina (8/5): Beautiful spot - A lovely spot directly on the river in a beautiful garden. I worried about mosquitoes but there were almost none, even eating breakfast and dinner on the riverside deck, spotting wildlife and relaxing.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable beds. Good meals. You do have to taxi in and out of town (20 Bz) but you can arrange pick ups if doing tours.
Bathroom was fine but would benefit from a refresh.
- Beata (10/5): Exceptional -
- Roger (9/5): Good value low key clean accomodation in a great location for san ignacio - Great location near San Ignacio- cheap taxi ride into town. The cabinas are clean and 'rustic'. We weren't able to use the river as it had rained too much, but I'd think it would be great for kids to jump and swim in during teh dry season. Mike and the staff were lovely and were able to offer great local advice. Has a family-feel to the ownership. Loved it here
- Scott (10/5): Exceptional - The location was beautiful and peaceful. The deck overlooking the river was serene and the rope swing into the river was fun! Mike was so helpful in helping us secure tours and transportation for discounted prices.
- Christine (9/5): We loved our stay at cohune. - Food was delicious and cooked to order, the staff accommodated a vegan diet and astutely picked up on likes and dislikes through our stay. The locations on the river was relaxing and much cooler than in town. We woke to the howler monkeys each morning and saw lots of birds and reptiles during our stay. The staff was incredibly accommodating and there for your every need from planning a day trip to pointing out monkeys traveling through the river so we could see them up close. Cabanas are small, so with three people and luggage it was a tight fit next time I would book the larger cabana that has a small space upstairs. Also there is no seating in the room which I expect is by design as it gets you outside on one of the two very lovely decks overlooking the river but if there was room in the cabana a chair would have been nice for in the evenings or early morning reading. Other cabanas have larger decks than the toucan did and may include a chair and a hammock the toucan deck on the front included a bench to seat two. Bathrooms are tight/small and pretty basic and we lacked any warm water for showering during our stay but we were fine with this as we had the river out our door.
- Maudylin (10/5): The place is sooooo beautiful, peaceful and relaxing. It is clean!! It is perfcet if you want a jungle experience withou - Beautiful and peaceful NOTHING!
- Jana (10/5): Awesome! Amazing! - Amazing place right by the river where you can swim. A hidden gem! You can have breakfast & dinner at their cosy restaurant where they serve meal. Family friendly! They have wild birds & monkeys and other rain forest critters that you can observe with the kids! We loved it and we will be back. Some simple stores and a bakery are 7min walk from the place. Awesome location for all the local tours! The staff there were like family! Cozy place! A must stay! My 6yrs old and a 10 year old loved it!
- Chantel (8/5): Very good -
- Amber (9/5): An amazing resort off the beaten path, felt immersed in the jungle but quick drive to the city! - The location was amazing, such a beautiful spot! The food was very good, and the hammocks were amazing for lazy afternoons! The food at the restaurant was a bit more pricy then eating in town.
- Paula (10/5): Our Stay in A Beautiful Jungle Oasis - The property is beautifully situated right on the river - which you can swim in! There is jungle all around and feels like you are in an oasis! Every morning I would have my coffee overlooking the river - I saw river otters and one day a large river turtle just came floating by! We had breakfast there - which was very good! The staff was amazing - helped us book an ATM Cave tour last minute (which was a once in a lifetime experience) and assisted with our travels to Guatemala. We wondered if the no AC in the room would be an issue, but it absolutely wasn't! Between the cool down at night and the fans in the room we slept great!
- Kari (9/5): This felt like home. Mike and staff went above and beyond to set up tours, give advice, answer questions. Our stay here - Friendliest staff ever! Nothing
- Jennifer (7/5): Low value for money but the staff couldn’t have been better - Big shoutout to Mario for being the welcoming party, entertainments and events secretary, receptionist/treasurer, and all round good company (and cards player). And for ensuring we got the best guide for the ATM Caves tour (Emil, at Bird Trekking Tours). Also to Kevin the chef for being extremely adaptable and accommodating regarding the menu.
Loved the huts and lived that I didn’t feel the need for AC. The interior design of the huts left a lot to be desired (strange steps for no reason that caught me out every time) and there are no facilities to speak of. Nowhere to read, as there are no lights near the bed. In fact you need a torch to get from light controls to the bed. The river looks to be the wrong colour for swimming in, sadly, because that would have been ideal recreation. The location is great if you want a jungle feel and don’t mind hungry bugs or being reliant on taxis to and from San Ignacio. Christiano is your man for taxis.
- Andreas (10/5): There is something magical about the experience of this place. - This is a very special place. Mike the owner says it has a special energy. For us it was a place of peace and harmony with nature. The sunrise over the river, go for a swim, in the morning mist with the sounds of the jungle - unbelievable! In the afternoon the howler monkeys roam the treetops over the small complex. Everything is laid out very sustainably and the fabulous cook spoiled us with local food and a breakfast of our choice. We'll be back - Mike, big hug! The whole staff always have a smile on their faces.
