Guest Reviews
- Pushpa (1/5): - Only the mocation... This hotel considers guest only for white-skin, others treated as no guets, no matter you're coming from abroad and paying same amounts - very embarrasing. I don't understand, how do they survive in tourist industry. I have travelled many countries in almost in all continenets. Never had this type of experience. Never recommend this hotel to anyone.
Even booikn.com should consider that they refused my booking at first with unpleasant answer. So I had to keep on urging, made this booikng more than 4 months ago. They definitely need to learn how to treat their valued customers. Anyway, I would say good luck for their futur business...
- Colleen (7/5): - Rooms were spotless, lovely hot shower, access to bike rental. Lovely clean pool for cooling down after a day visiting the ancient city Some mosquitos around reception area and restaurant but the owner had citronella to manage them.
- Nawaratne (6/5): - It was a good english breakfast. I highly recommend providing an electric kettle in the room, as it would make the stay much more comfortable and convenient for guests to make coffee.
- Gopal (7/5): - Friendly service
- Prabath (6/5): -
- LUCIANO NICOLA (3/5): Non ripronoterei - La posizione Struttura da restaurare, e poi nel 2026 non è possibile non avere il Wi-Fi in camera
- luca (9/5): Convenient accommodation close to the entrance of the museum and the archeological site - The location very close to the entrance to the archeological site is perfect, the garden of the hotel is nice, the pool very nice, the breakfast is rich and the manager is very kind (he provided me with a bicycle as I arrived so I could visit by myself) Nothing
- Rizvy (8/5): -
- Thibaud (7/5): -
- TATYANA (10/5): -
- Tomáš (7/5): - Možnost využití bazénu i po check-outu, možnost půjčení kol, skvělá lokalita Velice pomalý internet, pokoj mohl být uklizenější, personál nic moc
- FRANCKY (8/5): - La grande piscine
Tres bien placé Pas wifi ds la chambre
- Alex (9/5): Great location and hotel - Staff were brilliant and attentive, room comfy and pool very welcomed.
- Jayasinghe (9/5): Superb - The staff at the hotel was excellent. Breakfast was fabulous.
- Anatoly (9/5): Amazing experience, wonderful country - Great space, location, swimming pool and staff Lots of mosquitos in the area
- Thadchanamoorthy (1/5): Bad -
- Timo (9/5): great hotel with beautiful pool - great rooms and lovely service, wonderful pool in the green backyard, decent food casual breakfast (not fresh)
- Göran (8/5): Very good - Walking distance to the Lion Rock.
- Wayne (4/5): Close the ancient city - It is a great location to the Ancient City and the pool was refreshing. The rooms need work and felt a bit musty and needed to be aired.
- Nigel (6/5): Ok as crash pad. Avoid if want a " holiday resort". Location excellent for UNESCO. - Large rooms. Aircon worked ( but only when they turned the power on). This place is not a holiday resort!. Pool was really an unfiltered pond with mosquito larvae living in it. No tea coffee in room unless requested. Electricity turned off in day to save money. When no tour groups in, restaurant doesn't function. Only soap in the bathroom. Toilet tissue had to be requested. No safe in room. No fridge. They were spending their time on the wrong things. Making the front look tidy isn't the priority. Making the pool work, with umbrellas and cushions on loungers would make their customers much happier.
- Rox (1/5): Achchuvaly not by photo - No any one Poor staff
- Paul (4/5): Uncomfortable from the start as they tried to make us pay cash. - Sandwich We didn’t like that they gave us 2 of the 5 rooms far away and in what appeared to be the drivers quarters. The rooms were standard be we were not offered a discount. I didn’t get the room I booked on the ground floor. I did not like how they insisted we paid in cash- I refused but it made it very awkward for us. One of the workers sat with us and watched us eat, also uncomfortable.
- Robin (9/5): Superb - The location was great for visiting the ancient city and for being by the lake. The rooms were spacious, comfortable and clean around a nice garden area with a pool to relax by after seeing the sights and cycling around. The staff were very welcoming and attentive.
- Janaka (9/5): Polonnaruwa ancient city tour - Spacious , comfortable room. Friendly and very helpfull staff Did not have tea making items in the room
- Rosanna (10/5): Exceptional - Staff very friendly and and available
- Petr (10/5): Exceptional - Very comfortable room, all clear, tasty breakfast, very good location, nice pool Nothing
- Peter (7/5): Good value for money hotel. - Staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good. The hotel is very close to main attraction and shopping area. Good cafe, Hungry Muppets, a short walk from hotel.
- DickyKnees63 (6/5): Basic but comfortable. Good breakfast. - An older place with some wear and tear showing. We were part of a group tour. Just the one night here and our room was comfy enough with good aircon. Friendly staff. Nice simple breakfast. Quite a few mozzies to contend with. But fair value for money.
- Carolyn (5/5): Maybe not the best choice - Definitely needed to upgrade to the deluxe room, the standard room was depressing. Deluxe room was tired looking and just ok.
- Nancy (5/5): Likely caters to group tours not couples traveling with a genius discount from b. Com - Close to the ruins and museum we rented bikes for 1 k rupees each one gear a bit difficult. It was a lot of biking glad we did not walk. The bats at night. We had a beer around the pool in the afternoon The place was empty we were the only guests there and the manager gave us the worst room possible, there were hundreds of tiny ants all over the bed sheets. He did move us to another room, but not to the new side with a pool view. He wanted an extra 25 us $ to move there. He moved us to maybe the 2 nd worst room. We did swim as it is a large nice pool but murky water. Other pools in Sri Lanka are clear and clean, perfect water. The breakfast was ok.
- Leila (5/5): Passable -
- Nilakshi (7/5): Good for a family stay ... but pool was not so clean. - room was excellent. very clean & it was a quite place. Food
- Nishan (10/5): Exceptional - What a pool and clean big rooms enjoyed every moment at the place.
- Chiran (10/5): Exceptional - We had great service from them. Really valuable for money. All the required facilities were available. Room was very clean. They treat us very well.We feel like they are like our family members. They arranged all our requirements very quickly (bike for visit ancient city and arranged safari jeep to travel minneriya national park ). Location is very close to ancient city and parakrama samudraya . Walkable distance. They kept our luggage very safely until we visit ancient
City. Very safe place . We can highly recommend them 🙂 thank you for your great hospitality ❤️ Nothing
- Sri (4/5): Disappointing -
- Thomas (10/5): Exceptional - We were very satisfied! Everything was organized to our satisfaction. Clean rooms and good food was absolutely available! Also the transfer to Arunga Bay with 5 hours was organized and carried out. I am "fully" enthusiastic about the hotel!
- Apoorva (9/5): Superb - Excellent location, very close to the ancient city. It was very safe too, as I was traveling solo. The staff was very kind and friendly. Rooms are very clean.
- vicnot (6/5): Clean and tidy budget hotel, good pool. - This hotel was part of our Intrepid tour package. It was nothing special but clean with a nice pool, adequate drinks options and breakfast. Wifi was okay.
I looked the price up independently and it is very inexpensive. No luxury but no complaints.
- Anuschka (9/5): Ideal location - very close to the entry gate of Polonnaruwa. - Great location for visiting Polonnaruwa. Really helpful staff and lovely to have a pool to cool down in after our tour of the ancient city. Nothing.
- Alessandro (10/5): Beautiful room and swimming pool near The archaelogical site of Polonnaruwa - La stanza pulita e la piscina ( clean room and beautiful swimming pool) Nulla
- Sarah (8/5): Very good - Great location - only a short distance away from the ancient city.
The pool and garden were a nice place to relax after a busy and hot morning of sightseeing. WiFi was only accessible in public spaces, so were unable to use the internet in our room.
The breakfast (which was an additional 5 USD per person) was disappointing, particularly when we had enjoyed many wonderful breakfasts in other hotels/guest houses at no extra cost during our stay in Sri Lanka.
Staff were reluctant to provide a laundry service (though this is listed in their facilities) and then explained that it was only available on a per item service, rather than by weight, as offered by most other similar accommodation.
- Aruna (8/5): A good location - The Location and room size are good.
The staff is also very friendly. There was no wifi in our rooms .
- 449ashantij (8/5): Clean & Comfortable! Great Location! - Great place for a stop over if you are visiting Polonnaruwa. The rooms are clean and the staff is nice. This isn't a fancy hotel BUT I loved the fact the rooms are very comfortable and super clean for a stay. They don't serve food but if you ask they will make sure to arrange. The location is also very convenient to visit the iconic Polonnaruwa Ancient city. There's tons of restaurants near by as well. This is a great place stay.
- Ariya (1/5): Not recommend unless anyone has no other option to stay in Polonnaruwa, Sri Lanka - Bathroom was clean.
had hot water.
soap were there Dirty bed cover sheets and pillow covers. They haven't change the Bed sheets and pillow covers. Some tiny bugs were there on the beds. No Kettle/ tea Amenities. No bed Linen. Room and bath room doors are horrible. even the flow is not clean
- Gary (7/5): Great position for everything. - We liked the proximity to the small town area, the lake and sightseeing. The pool was very relaxing and we took a long swim after a busy day sightseeing. Easy walk to town with small eateries, restaurants and bakeries nearby.
We had dinner in the hotel restaurant and the rice and curry was superb as was the traditional Sri Lankan breakfast the following morning. The staff were all lovely and helpful. Air conditioning had no remote control so what it was set on was it.
Hotel is in need of some TLC….everything is functional but run down.
- Praba (8/5): Very good -
- John (9/5): Superb - It was very convenient to have the bikes right from the hotel. The pool was refreshing. Very convenient for the bus and visiting the site. Though the room was big, it could be better kept, e.g. curtain washed, AC panel replace. The AC iteself worked well enough.
- Kamalatheepan (8/5): Very good -
- Kathrin (8/5): Very good - Very nice and caring hosts. We lent some bikes for the Polonnaruwa visit. The hotel is very close to the Museum entrance and the lake. It was very clean and tidy.
- Wickum (8/5): Very good - Staff was helpful.. they arranged all our needs..
Good place to stay..
Recommended.. Old building rooms not good enough..
Need to do some repairs
- Tharindra (10/5): Exceptional -
- goyourownway (8/5): Clean renovated rooms - 7.94070°, 80.99947° Siyanco Holiday Resort is centrally located, with access to the new town to the south and major cultural sites to the north. Despite the 2019 bombings and the COVID lockdown, this hotel has invested in the future of tourism. It offers rooms with renovated bathrooms and, above all, clean rooms: an example to all hotels in Sri Lanka that cleaning is not expensive and a good sign of hospitality. Not a good sign of hospitality was the owner’s offer to buy the hotel. That sends the wrong signal.
In March 2024, our room 401 (2F) was in the building surrounding the swimming pool. Rooms with a lower number were in the building next to the restaurant. Our room had good air-conditioning and television. The ceiling fan was out of order. Laundry service was available and we enjoyed the pool in the afternoon sun. The restaurant served a limited but good quality buffet breakfast. Wi-Fi reception in the room was intermittent.
Siyanco Holiday Resort offers renovated and clean rooms. Recommended.
- Wickramasinghe (9/5): Superb - Location
- Anthony (7/5): Good -
- Jayne (7/5): It was okay but not too cheap for what it offers - The Hotel is situated right next to the Entrance of the ancient city and you can walk there to buy your ticket. It is also really close to the lake. We had a lot of insects in our room when we arrived. The view from the room was terrible.
- Sjoerd (6/5): Pleasant - Big room. Nice pool Did not like the food in the restaurant.
The place felt a little deserted. Maybe because it was off season. I guess there are better options in this city.
- Anthony (8/5): We had a pleasant stay. - The pool was very big, so great for our older children.
It’s super close to the entrance if the ruins and the lake for sunset.
The Sri Lankan breakfast was delicious.
The 2 Managers are very pleasant.
They hired bikes for us. I didn’t love the air con which was a bit noisy.
Use the internet in the restaurant as it is better.
- Dhananjani (8/5): Very good -
- Anthony (5/5): Check all the reviews prior to booking - The fish and chips in the restaurant was a nice change and not over priced When we arrived it was not good the standard room was terrible and to upgrade we needed to negotiate heavily and could of got cheaper on this site
No fridge in room only soap in bathroom had to pay 3% surcharge
Would not return
- Dhananjani (8/5): Very good -
- Patricia (8/5): Okay for 1 night. Close to Lake which was lovely an especially for the sunset. - Large, clean room Pool really hot; tv didn’t work; no internet in room
- Ian (6/5): Ver tired hotel - Gardens looked nice & well kept. Good sized bedroom & bathroom. No hot water for showers in the morning (probably used up by coach party), bathroom door didn't shut, TV not working (apparently some external damage), no WiFi in our room, no toiletries. Breakfast not very good, again after coach party had eaten early. Altogether very tired & really not value for money.
- Romeo (9/5): Superb -
- Claire (9/5): Good stay, lovely pool - Lovely clean pool with some shade. Big room with very comfortable beds. Best shower (pressure and temperature) that we've had in 6 weeks in Sri Lanka.
Staff will bring beer to the pool or the room. They arranged hire cycles for 1000 rupees per day, perfect for exploring the local ruins which are nearby. They also arranged a reasonably priced and well driven taxi to Trincomalee. A kettle was provided on request. The area around the pool has been left to nature! The sunbeds need to have cushions for comfort.
As is common here, the restaurant at the hotel was not functioning, other than breakfast but we found 2 decent restaurants nearby. There's not much else in Polonnaruwa.
- Kamil (9/5): Really good stay, I recommend this hotel for whom stop in Pollonaruwa. - Standard room was ok, but if Deluxe room would be available we would change on it. Good breakfast and swimming pool with beautiful garden, that was good choice.
- Sally (8/5): Nice people, great pool, a good base for travelling and doing Safari's in Uduwalawe. - Lovely Staff, ready to please, The place was lovely and clean, including the pool. Menu was limited - but the food was well cooked, perhaps it could be made a little more varied. The sockets in the rooms which are almost all round pins need updating, and the furnishings could have been a little more interesting. It felt quite basic. But the price was modest so that is understandable perhaps.
- Julian (8/5): Very clean and comfortable stay - Very comfortable large bed, large clean room, great pool . They hired bikes for us (LKR1000 per bike per day). Great location for visiting the ruins- 1 minutes from the ticket office . Would be good to have mats for the pool loungers to be more comfortable
- Nelli (10/5): Great quality for money. Highly recommended - The place looks great, the room is nothing luxurious but it is clea. the water preassure and hot water is extremely good. We had no chance to try the pool but it looked super nice and inviting. We really liked the small seating area with the colourful lights around at entering. Breakfast was good. The location is unbelievebly good. This place is well worth the money! No card payment available, but we knew about this so not an issue for us.
- Rumiana (6/5): Pleasant -
- Charlesworth (6/5): Functional - Location , simple accommodation Room faced road - should be warned !
- Jairo (10/5): Exceptional - The place has an excellent location and magnificent garden, one can relax peacefully around the nature... Quiet, tranquil and safe... Breakfast was Sri Lankan style and quite fulfilling... I would totally return to this place... There were not so many mosquitos however do not forget that being around a lovely garden, this may be a bother... Not for me
- B. (8/5): Welcoming and friendly stay - Spacious and clean room. Nice hot shower. The thing i liked most were the owners and staff. The waiter was very good and payed much attention to us as guests. The owners were very welcoming and friendly. They offered us a free ride with the car around the lake which was very nice. Mosquitoes
- Brielle (8/5): Convenient location - The room was air-conditioned and extremely spacious. The hot water in the bathroom worked well. The setting was pleasant and location was so convenient to explore the ancient city (5 minute walk). Filtered water was available for us to refill our water bottles. We were able to rent bicycles (for 1000LKR each). The hosts also gave us blankets upon request. The pool needed cleaning. We also had a terrible experience with our laundry: upon arrival we were told it would cost 350LKR for a large load of washing and 150-200LKR for a smaller wash. We thought that was amazing value and must have been cheaper than average due to the fact that it was all done on site and they would not use a dryer. After the wash was complete, they tried to charge us 9800 because they claimed it cost 350 per item, not per load of washing! This was NOT explained when we agreed to do the wash. They eventually came to an agreement for us to pay 4000LKR, which is still much higher than local laundromat prices, but at that point we had no choice. If you don’t do any laundry, I imagine your stay would be much more pleasant than ours.
- Gemma (7/5): Decent stay if your on a budget. - Great location to explore the old city ruins, we rented bikes from the hotel and cycled round, less than 10 minutes to the entrance. Polonnaruwa itself is not very touristy, we went to Priyamali Gardens for dinner which was an amazing experience and a short tuk tuk ride away.
Family run hotel, staff were all very welcoming and friendly, they noticed our wifi wasn’t working so put a router in our room, which was great!
Polonnaruwa itself is not touristy at all but actually the roads and infrastructure are much more advanced than other areas. The people of the town are really nice and bus stop is right outside the hotel. We caught a bus directly to Kandy! The rooms and bathroom were very tired and could do with some renovation, but for £12 a night what can you expect?
The pool was a bit murky and not that inviting but the gardens were beautiful and well kept.
- Nicholas (7/5): Great base for the Ancient City - The location of the hotel is amazing for the ancient city, on the same road and a five minute walk from the museum and ticket office. The pool is lovely, and it is an easy walk onto Polonnaruwa town where we had some of the best Rice and curry of our time in Sri Lanka. We upgraded to a deluxe room which was bright and airy with good AC and beside the pool. Do not book a standard room. They are dark and feel almost under ground if you open the curtains with vegetation in front of the window. Go for the deluxe! The owners are really helpful, but they are not computerised so we had to find out names in an exercise book that they write the bookings in. Breakfast was good on the day they had a big tour group staying, but the next morning it was disappointing with very little on offer. They include a bar in the facilities list, but they only have Lion Lager, so not good if you don't drink beer. No niceties in the room, just a bar of soap... Last thing to mention, they only take cash. Not a problem as there is an ATM 5 minutes away, but it would be helpful if they had told us in advance!
- Mervyn (3/5): Poor -
- Gurullagoda (7/5): Good -
- Nicole (8/5): Very good - Efficient AC, good shower No view from the room
- Gayashan (8/5): Very good - Spacious, calm rooms. Closer proximity to town and the sites. Better if we had a kettle
- Edit (10/5): Exceptional - Clean, spacious room, bathroom and terrace. Friendly, welcoming staff, nice and big swimming pool. It was a really nice stay.
- Wathsala (10/5): Exceptional - Clean and Comfortable room. Aunty always willing to help. She arranged a tuk tuk for us to visit all the places in Polonnaruwa ancient city for a fair price and provided dinner when we requested.
- Tanja (9/5): Superb - great owners, pool, location
- Jennifer (10/5): Totally enjoyable. Ranathanga goes out of her way to make you feel comfortable, she is very helpful at organising transp - The hotel is situated very close to the lake and to the ticket office and museum for the Ancient city. Everything good
- Digivision (10/5): Exceptional - The rooms were large, airy and clean. The staff were ready to help with anything we needed. You can spend the whole day just by watching the PARAKRAMA SAMUREDYA Lake.
- Peter (10/5): Exceptional - Staff are fantastic and treated me like royalty - doing everything to make my stay happy and relaxing. They even organized transport and day trip to Sigirya for me. - babykong (6/5): Perfectly adequate for one night. - Pretty basic hotel, but it was clean and comfortable.
Didn’t use the swimming pool, but my friends who did, said it was lovely and warm.
Breakfast was adequate.
Convenience stores and restaurants are within walking distance.
I was in the new block, but there was no wifi once you were inside your room.
- Explorer562496 (10/5): Our stay in the Siyanco Holiday Resort - We stood for 3 nights in that hotel, the central location nearby the museum, ruins and the lake is very comfortable. The rooms are big and clean, you have a nice pool to swim and relax after a Hit sightseeing day. The friendly owner helped us for every issues, we had, and also the restaurant is recommendable.
Thank‘s a lot!
