- 65janac (6/5): Beautiful setting - On our trip during 14 days through Southern France we book this trip as one off - to splurge and get spoiled for 5* hotel. However, we were quite dissapointed. This hotel was not better or perhaps even worst then some of the 3* properties we stayed and pay much less money.
The room was very mediocre and nothing really special that would differentiate from the other less costly hotels we stayed.
The only beautiful thing about this place was the outside the restaurant seating especialy at night when beautiful lit

- Carmen (10/5): - The rooms were nice had a small issue with the first one but was taken care of immediately not even 10 minutes after the complaint, which was really nice to see how it attempted. other than that this is one of the most beautiful place after that, the staff is wonderful The peacefulness though is far from everywhere, but God knows how much I needed it just to be at peace and they spa sauna everything they provide. It’s just extra extraordinary. Had a great time will recommend especially for solo traveler who has tried to be on their own, but still feel safe to do so
- Jo (7/5): Nice stay, especially if you have a dog. - Swimming pool great, wellness/spa area good (but you have to book to be able to use it), great for dogs. Limited food service, including available of snacks / ice cream in the afternoon. You could hear guests in the corridor or late at night talking through the windows.

- Benoit (9/5): -

Összességében egy csodás provence-i élmény, ahová szívesen visszatérnénk.

- Verified traveler (10/5): - Upscale countryside retreat. Very pleasant experience!
- Adrianna (10/5): - Beautiful place, the area around the hotel and hotels itself were so unique. Bit pricey but you do get great experience. Quality of food was also outstanding.
- Stevenson (5/5): Shame about the smell - The staff were helpful and the outside area for eating and relaxing was lovely. Lots of seating and shade and the pool was also very nice. We enjoyed the petanque court too. Our room was a junior suite. The bathroom was large and spacious but smelt very damp and unpleasant and had no window. The shower was over the bath and the shower head hooked up at the end of the bath, which was surrounded by large tiles. This meant the water did not go far into the bath so you had to lean towards the water flow, which was dangerous as the bath was slippery. A decent shower would have been great and I am sure the bath was not sealed properly which meant the water leaked behind it and caused the damp. I did not expect this poor standard at this price.
- Essexrosabel (10/5): Fabulous start to our holiday - Beautiful French country house hotel just 30 minutes drive from Marseille airport. From the moment you arrive you are in a comfortable luxurious environment. Lovely and peaceful with beautiful large terrace for dining and relaxing under the tall shady plane trees. As you would expect all the the food was delicious- breakfast, lunch and dinner. Bed was very comfortable and room and bathroom were spacious. Great swimming pool. Outstanding service from the restaurant and bistro staff.
- Michael (9/5): Superb - Breakfast was expensive but excellent
Service a bit erratic No Showers
- Pascale (10/5): - Srjour paradisiaque.
L’endroit enchanteur. Le restaurant très bon. Bref, un plaisir.
- Renaud (9/5): Superb -
- Jocelyn (10/5): - Honestly, one of the best days of my life I have two small children, and they made us feel absolutely at home
- Maurice (10/5): Very beautiful property! -
- McKinley (10/5): - This is a beautiful property and the chef is amazing! When traveling to Europe, I like to feel like I’m staying in Europe, and La Magdeleine has so much character and charm! We would definitely stay here again.
- Prue (8/5): Fell short of our expectations. - The grounds are absolutely stunning and very tranquil. Rooms are large and comfortable. Hand held shower only and hair dyer barely worked. Restaurant expensive and average for the price.
- Donald (10/5): Exceptional -
- EmmaEats2021 (2/5): NOT FIVE STAR - FAR FROM IT - Sadly this is a property that is not meeting 5 star standards, both in terms of infrastructure and service. The team tried to ‘school me’ on what to expect in a 5-star establishment when I challenged them, sadly they picked the wrong person to try to educate: I stay in average 100+ nights/year in 5 star hotels for work and also work in this industry, so I have an above average understanding of standards. And sadly, in their case, they are well below 5 star standards. Our main challenge during our stay was the air conditioning. We couldn’t get the temperature in our room below 28C/82F due to the weak and old air con unit. They tried to convince me that it wasn’t possible for aircons to cool a room below 10 degree celcius than the outside temperature (hmmm obviously not the case, a modern, functioning AC system can get the temp down to 18C/65F even if it’s 40C/100F+ outside). They wouldn’t admit that it was their 20+ year old AC system that couldn’t do the job. Then they gaslit me in making it seem like it was my fault: “you’re probably from America, you’re used to sleeping in rooms that are too cold. It’s not common in France, what we have here is normal’. Hmmm again, no (AMERICAN GUESTS BEWARE!). Regardless of what temperature I’m used to sleeping in, you cannot expect me (or anyone, especially not my 5-month old baby) to sleep comfortably in a room at 28C/82F. When I explained that we had a sleepless night because our baby (who normally sleeps through the night) was up all night, uncomfortable, there was no apology, no compassion, no offer to make amends, just defensiveness. Not a smile, no hospitality, nothing. I made the mistake of flagging that the mini fridge in the room didn’t work either, which also got a defensive response (it’s not supposed to be as cold as a regular fridge, it’s not going to keep food cold etc). Ok cool, again, not the point: the fridge was on the maximum setting and everything was room temp in there, even just bottled water.
As opposed to admitting their shortcomings, the staff are defensive and argumentative (as you can probably see from their responses to the other negative reviews. I’m sure they’ll find something to accuse me of instead of admitting the issues and/or responding hospitably).
Real disappointment - this was supposed to be a treat for our family as my husband just finished participating in the Paris Olympics but sadly it was a very frustrating 3 days instead. Hard pass next time. Real shame as it’s a lovely setting and property.
- Renee (7/5): Lovely French hotel - Very French. Lovely gardens. Excellent breakfast Bathrooms somewhat dated. Not even a hook for the shower head.
Limited options on food outside of the fancy restaurant.
Entrance and exit to hotel dangerous. Needs a mirror to see oncoming traffic.
- C9386FJrobertv (2/5): Restaurant does not live up to Michelin-star quality - We have been staying at the hotel for four nights. Overall a nice experience, but the rooms are too outdated and do not meet the criteria for a 5-star hotel. Breakfast was great at 30 euros per person.
The main reason we are disappoined with our stay, is the quality of the 1 Michelin- star restaurant. A week before our dinner, I asked the restaurant to take into consideration that my wife is pregnant. One day before the dinner, I mentioned this again at the hotel reception and we were reassured that this would not be a problem as there would be plenty of options for pregnant women.
To our surprise, the restaurant had no idea how to handle this situation the day of our dinner. For the first dish, my wife received the same course as I did, but without the main ingredient: the fish. All that was left was cucumber in a bit of sauce (see photo of my wife’s couse compared to mine). For the second course, she received almost the exact same dish that was served to her as the main course. The only difference being that for the second dish, the veil (cooked: well done) was replaced by mushrooms.
All in all we consider this unacceptable for a restaurant with a price range of ~ 200 euros a person. We cannot image that a Michelin chef was attending the kitchen the night we dined here. Especially with Michelin star restaurants, you would expect the chef to see it as a challenge to prepare something suitable, but creativity was absolutely lacking here.
- Karen (9/5): Superb -
- Thomas (9/5): Superb -
- Aurelie (5/5): Passable -
- Joan (5/5): Ok for a short stay, service isn’t good. Good very expensive and property needs care. - The garden and pool are OK The building is tired and needs attention. The service was variable. The food is very very expensive and not wonderful! There was no attention to detail. I would not return.
- Nadezhda (10/5): Exceptional -
- Theresa (9/5): Superb -
- Arthur (9/5): Superb -
- Valeria (10/5): Very special place. Relax and sofisticated - Wonderful place
- Stephen (8/5): Very good -
- DIDIER (10/5): - Lieu de rêve !!
- Edward (8/5): Very much enjoyed the facilities here but booked restaurants in the village for reasonable prices. - The breakfast selection was very good .The outside of the premises are beautiful and the area around the pool is particularly attractive & peaceful. Bedroom was large with impressive facilities - toiletries, wardrobe size, number of hangers etc.
Staff are particularly pleasant and helpful. The dining options were limited and extremely expensive .Despite an extensive wine list there were approx 3 bottles below a three figure price & the cheapest of those was around 80 euros. G&T is 20euros.
We had planned to dine there 1 night out of our 4 night stay but found the menu not sufficiently to our liking to justify an outlay of around 400 euros for two .
As we experienced in other hotels, it would be more enjoyable if guests were advised not to use phones around the pool area as this spoils a very peaceful experience for other guests.
- Jennifer (10/5): - Loved this beautiful property and pool and had the most wonderful meal at the restaurant! The town is very cute and easily walkable. We hope to visit again.
- Hanaa (8/5): Very good -

- Laura (8/5): Very good -
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional -
- Pomp (10/5): - Amazing bastide converted to a shabby chic hotel. Dinner at the restaurant (1 Michelin star) was an amazing experience. If only it is easy to make another reservation without a hotel stay.
- Henriikka (10/5): Perfect place for beautiful winter holidays in sunny Provence, highly recommending this hotel! - Absolutely beautiful property! The garden, common areas and rooms were all very well maintained and it was easy to feel completely relaxed during our stay. We stayed for a week with family (4 adults) and this was a perfect location to get to know all the interesting places in Provence by car: Cassis and Calanques, St. Remy de Provence, Atelier des Lumieres in Les Baux-de-Provence, Aix en Provence, Marseille, Avignon.. Also we had a wonderful 2,5h hike really close to the hotel in the mountains. Weather was sunny all the time and not many tourists around, so I can highly recommend travelling to Provence this time of the year! And on top of this, the culinary experiences were of course wonderful starting from breakfast, to the hotels bistro and the fine-dining experience in the restaurant. Also good restaurants in the village where you can walk. Thank you for everything, we will remember this trip for a long time! -
- Dirk (9/5): Very beautiful and picturesque setting! - Beautiful location! Stunning hotel and amenities! Staff very welcoming and friendly! Rooms were beautiful too! Really an exceptional location! Quant little town Gemenos!
- Ian (8/5): Very good -
- Victoria (9/5): Superb -
- Tina (10/5): - Beautiful building and rooms. Stunning pool and grounds.
Air con is not very effective but were given a fan too, which was fine.
- bourderye (10/5): A delightful property - Stayed a week with the family in this delightful property. A wonderful week from an attentive staff, a beautiful house and garden with charm, amazing breakfast and diner/lunch venue, great decoration yet not ostentatious, full of history, great location to explore the region. A great discovery - certainty à top 10 in our international (long) list of venues
- Pierre (10/5): Amazing charme, full of history and delight. - We had an amazing stay at La Magdeleine. Its charming ambiance was truly fantastic, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The comfort level was perfect, from the plush beds to the cozy seating areas. What we liked most is the property’s rich history. It struck a perfect balance, offering a glimpse into the past without overwhelming guests with ostentation. Great staff, attentive all the time. An amazing setting for diner and superbe breakfast. A great discovery - certainly a top 10 in our list of worldwide hotels (and the list is long !) Nothing !!
- Guardianreviewer (10/5): Wonderful classy property with service to match - Attentive staff, food options especially the good to have Michelin star restaurant, room was clean and classy, the view from the room overlooking the gardens, the pool, organisation of various evening time activities like a movie in the garden..we were with a kid and felt extremely welcomed and well taken care off… Nothing but perhaps the bath tub and no standing shower options but I guess this forced me to enjoy the bath as I must on a holiday!
- Martin (9/5): Wow !!! What a hidden gem - Hotel was a hidden gem
Breakfast was lovely and plentiful
Dinner was amazing although limited menu
- T2509DFdebbiej (8/5): Another lovely stay - We have visited this hotel numerous times - a fabulous setting, dining under the trees is wonderful but expensive and the set menu at the bistro is rather limited. Unfortunately over the years certain areas of the hotel have not been upgraded to keep pace with the improved rating of the hotel and the tariff. In particular the bathrooms. I would expect a bath/shower that works properly for these prices and hopefully this will be addressed this coming year before I visit again next year.
- Gwen (10/5): A very relaxing and comfprtable stay in a beautiful setting - The house is beautiful: I hadn't expected it to be as old as the eighteenth century, and the grounds are stunning. Away from the house itself, the staff were friendly and always happy to help with any queries. The breakfast was really good on all counts: however I think the dinner menu could be a bit more varied , and allow more choice away from the Nouvelle Cuisine.
- Tobias (5/5): Poor service in a hotel with a lot of charm - The facility is very nice, there were ice cubes and refrigerators at the pool bar which we used (just ourselves). Bed was very comfortable. Quality of breakfast. Every morning a small dessert and fruit salad is served. Unfortunately, we spent our honeymoon in this hotel. In advance, it may be necessary to mention: We are very friendly guests and usually have very nice vacations as we are very friendly, open-minded people who get along well with everyone. The hotel is visually very beautiful and I mean also listed, it has an incredible amount of charm. Which has advantages and disadvantages. We think in France the service is generally rather poor. But in this hotel it is virtually non-existent. We don't know if it was because we are German or english-speaking, but every day we had the impression that we were not noticed, but all the other French guests were. We were rarely asked in the morning if we wanted eggs. The waitress simply did not listen to us when we ordered something. So she brought wrong things every day (wrong Coffee, wrong eggs etc.) At check in, NO word was spoken to us after an 8 hour journey. We were silently given a key and then had to carry our luggage to the third floor without an elevator. It was just the whole staff standing around and gossiping. When they are not chatting they are busy pretending to be working on something. This was extremely noticeable to us. The employees had a kind of meeting place in the courtyard of the hotel and there often loudly gossiped and laughed until 02:00 at night. However, since the windows in the building are very old, you can hear every word. The breakfast is rather average for a 4 star hotel. Very sweet and rather little hearty. Quality is ok for france. Unfortunately little choice.
To our misfortune, the WiFi/WLAN of the hotel is down for 3 days and so we could not even watch Netflix or surf the Internet while it was raining. There was no reason or information on demand what is done that it runs again. It was simply the statement: No, the Wi-Fi does not work. Sorry. That was it. The employees in the hotel are so unprofessional that I have never experienced.
- Veronique (10/5): - Dîner délicieux et raffiné. Quant aux chambres un peu vieillot
