Guest Reviews
- Robert (6/5): -
- Paul (6/5): Love this hotel. Lots of legacy conversions(!), but great location and value. -
- Melanie (8/5): - Great view, good location, friendly staff, elevator available, kettle, coffee etc., heating worked! Shower didn't have much pressure.
- BigChrisR (8/5): -
- William (5/5): - Old building has character Needs a lot of work done to it
- Sam (10/5): Great rooms, great prices, great location, lovely staff!! - We have stopped here a few times now and it still surprises me at how good the rooms are for the money. The rooms are much bigger than most hotels we have stayed in, the facilities in the rooms are brilliant. Can't fault the place at all! Definitely worth staying if you're in the area.
- Jana (9/5): - Absoutely amazing. Half of the hotel was closed, probably because it was midseason. The rooms were very nice and the stuff extremely friendly.
There's also free parking nearby.
- Trudi (5/5): Ok for the price. Great location with beautiful walks and fantastic local shops. Avoid the breakfast that you have to pa - Great location and spotlessly clean.
Price ok.
Reception staff were lovely, kind and welcoming.
Bed comfortable. Tired inside but very clean.
Garden really sad and needs sorting out so that guests can access and use it. It could be a real asset.
Breakfast was not to be recommended.
Sat down was asked what I wanted- I didn’t know what there was- no menu and nobody had told me what was available.
Eggs could only be fried or boiled. Poached or scrambled not permitted. Tomatoes were tinned not fresh. No mushrooms. As a vegetarian it was very disappointing.
Continental offering wasn’t very good either.
We didn’t eat breakfast there on day 2 after the day 1 experience. We went to a local cafe where for the same price we had an absolutely outstanding breakfast!
- Nicola (9/5): Fabulous accomodation - Friendly, helpful receptionist. Amazing building, great room. Very clean and comfortable. Great place to stay if on the coastal walk.
- Madden (7/5): Pleasant base for exploring the local area. - Lovely position. Elegant lounge. Large room. I’ve been to the Valley of the Rocks several times over the years. The first few times there was a working restaurant & entertainment. Sad to say, this is no longer the case, but I so wish it was.🙃

- Alison (7/5): Value for money - Clean, comfortable, and excellent value. The receptionist was outstanding and made a real effort to get to know us — even our dog. Helpful recommendations and friendly service throughout. Car park is compact but more than adequate. The dog fee felt a bit unjustified. Other hotels at the same price point usually include simple extras like a bowl or a towel, but nothing was provided here. It left the pet charge feeling more like an add‑on than a service.
- Karen (7/5): - Clean room A bit of mould on the shower seal.
- Louise (9/5): Enjoyable & excellent friendly staff - Good location Parking, lack of
- Colin (10/5): Just what I was looking for - The location is excellent, and it excellent value it was a bit cold on the first night
- Mark (1/5): -
- Adrian (10/5): -
- Enrico (8/5): -
- Claire (8/5): -
- Jane (7/5): Very friendly front of desk. Basic but good value for money. Don’t expect any airs of graces but does the job. Clean bed - Great location, lovely old historic building but obviously seen better days. You can imagine it was very grand back in the day! Rather dated, corridors like a maze!
basic accommodation but ok for the money - cheap place to stay and plenty of places to eat a few meters away.
- Steve (10/5): -
- Luc (8/5): -
- Sarah (8/5): - Location Nothing
- florian (10/5): -
- Harry (7/5): -
- JimboGTR (9/5): Good budget option - Location was great and the staff were very helpful, coffee making facilities in the room and a decent sized bathroom Decoration was aged but can't knock it for the money
- Steve (4/5): Very sad state of repair - Great location
Fabulous old building in need of maintenance and some love , Peeling wall paper, spring poking through the mattress,
- Kay (7/5): Ok accommodation, with a good location close to the SW Coast Path. - Great location. The member of staff we saw was helpful and welcoming. The hotel has seen better days, with marked carpets and limited toiletries.
- Robert (10/5): Perfect to see all of Lynton & Lynmouth - Outstanding view and location
Very quaint interior and architecture
- Olaf (8/5): - Breakfast would be a nice option
- Jason (7/5): Well located hotel at a good price - Great location, close to restaurants, shops and Cliff Railway.
- SteveW5376 (8/5): A no nonsense place to stay - An older property but very clean & large rooms. Rachel the receptionist & I believe manger was very helpful, cheerful & made the stay a great experience.
- Sarah (8/5): Hotel full of history right in the centre of charming Lynton - Location. Views. Value for money. Staff. History.
- David (3/5): Would definitely not stay here again - Can't think of anything yet. There are no meals whatsoever at this hotel. No hot water. Electric sockets not working. If you wanted something to eat at the hotel, they would sell you a Pot Noodle. The room was very cold at night. They charge you £6.00 a night to park in their car park. Hotel entrance has broken tiles on steps, which are a big trip hazard.
- Stephen (8/5): -
- patrice (9/5): -
- Joanna (9/5): - Lovely old hotel, lots of character and right next to several nice pubs, cafes, shops etc. Slightly tired, but I quite like that as a vibe.
- Colin (7/5): - They only do breakfast at weekends, which for a large hotel is disappointing Second blanket
- Bodo (2/5): - Gar nichts ein riesen Haus ohne charme die Einrichtung eher Sperrmüll Zu viel
- Mark (8/5): Fabulous .. we enjoyed the location and the views - Amazing location .. wonderful sea views A little dated .. but very beautiful
- Naomi (8/5): Excellent location, our room was clean and comfortable with a fab view - Location , view , quietness Instructions to heat the bathroom would be useful
- robertson (8/5): - Very friendly and helpful staff, clean and comfortable room, magnificent location and very competitive price! Parking is limited and paid
- Sherryl (10/5): - Very friendly and helpful staff. Elevator to the room. Spacious bedroom with very comfy bed. Beautiful old building in walking distance to everything. On site parking. Ensuite could have been bigger but was efficient and clean.
- Rafal (5/5): -
- JayneCraigAmyFistle (8/5): JOG 2 LE on vintage tractors Team - We are doing charity fundraising driving tractors from JOHN O GROATS TO lands end. Every morning I book forward accomodation and with 8 people 2 dogs, 5 vehicles same day, you can't be too choosey. The reviews were mixed and I honestly thought it would not be great.
But wow! take it from someone who's hotelled the length of the UK this week, this hotel is value for money.
- Andrew-roe (6/5): Ok for the price, nothing special - Staff very friendly Dodgy plug sockets in room, old fashioned. Sash window rattled all night in the wind and kept me awake.
- Helen (8/5): - Great location and lovely building. Comfy bed and nice room
- Rachel (10/5): - Lovely clean hotel ,
Very helpful staff
Great location
Great shower Nothing
- CRAIG (8/5): 8 guests and dogs doing lands end 2 john o groats on tractors 🚜 - This Victorian hotel is a fabulous place to stay. You do need to appreciate that she’s an older building, so you can’t compare it to something newly built. The rooms were comfortable and had everything you needed, and the staff were just lovely. The shower was little cool
- Keith (8/5): Very comfortable stay and all the staff were very helpful and friendly. - Fantastic location, lovely old building and spacious room.

- Alastair (8/5): Ideal for a short stay - Excellent location, no breakfast available but good breakfast had across the road. Nice room with sea view. N/A
- Manu (7/5): Absolute great location in the village and to explore the area. A bit old building wTired furniture - Great staff and location The mattress was uncomfortable. The rooms are so closed to one another that you can hear absolute everything
- Tom (10/5): Perfectly located, with beautifully views and in short walk to pubs and restaurants nearby. - I have stayed at the property several times, the hotel is conveniently located, the team there especially Rachel are always friendly and amenable. Rooms are always clean and spacious and it’s always a lovely stay. Like so many hotel, I do wish that the checkout time was at midday rather than 10am to give more a relaxing time to enjoy the room, the views and the hotel in general.
- Cok (8/5): - Very friendly. Pubs and bars nearby
- Jon (8/5): Amazing and really good value for money - The room was excellent with amazing views and basic but comfortable. Shame there was no bar or breakfast available
