Guest Reviews
- Lily (9/5): I enjoy every bit of my stay,, I love the comfort, except the room preparation, is taking longer - I really enjoy my stay in the comfort room, the breakfast was fantastic, and most of all, the staff are really friendly and helpful to me Yes just one of the thing, I don't really like is to wait for my room to be ready, I just been waiting a Little longer
- Gertie (10/5): -
- May (10/5): -
- Sonia (5/5): - Free breakfast $15 service transport..fees forward and return from Horn Island airport...
That I had a choice to wait to 30mins for the Quantas flights to come in from Cairns if there was any passengers.
- Harriet (10/5): My stay was comfortable and relaxing. - Everything. Nothing much.
- Wal (10/5): -
- Alfred (10/5): -
- Alex (8/5): -
- Janice (8/5): Very nice. Liked a little bungalow with deck. - I like a simple bowl of cereal and yogurt for breakfast so what was in the fridge worked for me. A dish towel in the kitchen for drying dishes.
- GABERIELA (10/5): - This was my 3rd stay in here and I loved it! The staff were incredible – so friendly and helpful. The food is always delicious. Only downside: the location is a bit far from the airport, so you’ll need to pay for a shuttle.
Still, a great experience overall!
- shawn (6/5): - breakfast provided, airport shuttle service ac didn't seem to get real cold
- JENNIFER (10/5): Excellent, caring and friendly manager, staff and chef. - Quiet villa next to a delightful and clean pool. Walking distance to supermarket, jetty and museum.
- Angelina (10/5): Excellent stay, nice accommodation - Great room, tea and coffee provided, pool, friendly staff, great food at the restaurant/pub Nothing

- Mesella (8/5): Overall everything was great. - The pool was beautiful and the food was great. The bed was not comfortable enough.
- Dean (10/5): -
- Brigette (10/5): Fabulous. - Courtesy collection from airport made it so much easier. Excellent food. Outstanding accommodation. Very professional, kind and caring staff.
- Meresiana (10/5): The staff were great helpful even after hours we had a bit mishap in the room. They were very helpful. The evening meals - It was immaculate clean.
- Samantha (10/5): -
- Bruce (6/5): -
- Fiona (10/5): - Any island in norther Australia is going to be expensive as all equipment and consumables come by barge.
This accommodation was still very good value for money.
We had the warer view room with the wrap around balcony. It felt very private, yet close to the pool.
The extensive continental breakfast was provided in the room and topped up daily. Yum.
There is an air-conditioner as well as a fan.
There was a really long desk in the room that could be used for work, eating or suitcases.
A new extra large tv for entertainment.
We really liked the restaurant meals - very large and filling with variety.
- nancia (10/5): - The staff here were lovely. Esso Ladies.
- Louisa (10/5): - Close to everything and staff are excellent NA
- Ian & Jacqui (5/5): sewage smell - unit smelt like sewage.
- Hew (7/5): Unexpected - Considering the location, (remote) they have done a remarkably good job. The units are comfortable and quiet and there is a very nice pool. The dining area is well appointed and the continental breakfast adequate. Remember everything has to come from Cairns on a barge. I would readily go back there again, in fact this is the only viable accomodation on Horne Island with a good range of facilities and a free bus to and from the airport when you need it. The exterior on first arrival is not appealing, plain and understated but it is like the Tardis, once through the small door from the car park it opens up to a well kept bar with a nice beer garden and outdoor area. Don't be put off by your first impression in the car park.

- margo (10/5): - Quiet property. Sparkling pool. Only 10 minute ferry ride to Thursday Island.
- Jane (6/5): Clean and comfortable and fine for a short stay. - The Wongai hotel is well located a short walk from the Horn Island Ferry wharf, the only cafe and the Ibis supermarket. It is also the only place on Horn Island to have a dining room. There is nowhere else to get a meal on the island, of if there is we didn't find it. The rooms vary from tired dongers, modest motel style rooms and modern cabins. We had two dongers and a motel style room all of which were comfortable for our short two-night stay and very clean. While we didn't use the pool but it looked inviting, and the area was pleasant to sit in the shade and while away the hot afternoon. The room rate included a continental breakfast, which consisted of cereal and toast or muffin. No fresh fruit or yoghurt, no sliced cheese or cold meats. There was a $20 charge for an upgrade to a hot breakfast which offered scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, hash brown and a Mexican mince type option. There was no cook to order, it was all served in a bain marie to help yourself. Our room rate was $255 per room per night which seemed quite expensive for the style of accommodation we were staying in but on par or even at the lower end of the scale of room rates in general for the Torres Strait Islands at this time of year.
- Carmel (9/5): We stayed in the deluxe studio which was private and had lovely was private and had lovely views of the water and was ne - Excellent location and beautiful, well established and maintained gardens. The wraparound deck and outdoor setting allowed us to soak up the natural scenery. Starting to show its age, especially bathroom facilities
- Edwin (9/5): Quiet lovely and beautiful hospitality - The view and the way the room looked beautiful entry to the room and a lovely bar and restaurant food The prices of the beer.
- Hilary (8/5): A comfortable hotel in a convenient location. I would stay there again. - Very comfortable room and pleasant outdoor areas - if my stay had been longer I would certainly have used the pool! I appreciated the hotel transfer options and the in-house restaurant. The large TV in the restaurant seemed to be on 24 hours a day, always with the volume turned up high. I found it disruptive when trying to enjoy meals with colleagues.
- Judy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Cliff (7/5): Two-night stay on way to Cape York - Room was comfortable. Shuttle service available from airport and ferry available at a small cost. Meal quality could have been better
- Cliff (7/5): Two-night stopover on way back from Cape York. - Comfortable room. Shuttle service available to and from airport Quality of food could have been better
- Diane Elizabeth (8/5): - Everyone was friendly and took pride in their job and the presentation of the hotel.
- Lesleigh (10/5): Lovely, welcoming, comfortable place to stay. - Staff, location Price
- Matthew (10/5): - Very clean relaxing
- Benny M (10/5): - There was not a flawed with the stay I really enjoyed it I would recommend it to anybody traveling to and from the Torres strait this is the place to stay hands down 👍💯
- Nigel (4/5): Disappointing -
- Ngaire (7/5): Good -
- Mcgrath (5/5): Passable - Room smelt musty. Room. Was hot on arrival. Inbuilt air con was loud.overnight when sleeping.
Overpriced. It's more like backpackers standard.
Bed wasn't soft either. Old silk bed cover. Shampoo was empty. On wall.
- Miriam (10/5): Really enjoy the stay - Excellent with the cleaner well done Everything looking Good
- Gabriela (10/5): - The staff at this hotel were amazing! From check-in to check-out, everyone was so friendly, attentive, and went above and beyond to make sure I had a great stay. The customer service truly made the experience special. I’ll definitely be returning! Thank you Kylie and Tamara (and Carla)
- Moa (10/5): Exceptional -

- Baira (10/5): Exceptional -
- Peter (10/5): - Property excellent 👌, well look after. Staff 👍👍👍
- Judith (8/5): I will be back next year for a longer stay. - Free continental breakfast and coffee in the restaurant.
Hot cooked breakfast for $20. This included a range of plentiful foods and coffee.
All the meals were excellent and quite reasonably priced for the quality. The chef/s are to be congratulated, I have never eaten better seafood meals. A very happy relaxed atmosphere.
Short walk to the ferry. When we first turned the air con on in our room, it smelled a bit musty. The room was spotless with no sign of mould, the smell came from the air con, which was also pretty noisy. After a few hours of use the smell dissipated and was no longer a problem.
- Celso (10/5): Awesome staff - Great staff and comfortable stay.
- Callan (7/5): Good -
- Neil (8/5): Okay for a short stay. - Pool was a good temperature and the food was good value. The service in the bar was sometimes a challenge getting orders correct. Bar staff used the excuse “Island Prices” when they stuffed up billing or orders. I saw them do this twice.
- Ben (10/5): Relaxing and peaceful - what I needed after a 6 week sea voyage - The helpful courteous staff and the excellent restaurant and menu. The pool wad great as wad the privacy of the cabin. Continental breakfast was a little basic and light on. Fruit compote and muffin was not provided for second day. Would have liked some juice and yoghurt. Also would have liked the option to upgrade to a hot breakfast.
- Jane (7/5): Good -
- Wayne (7/5): Good -
- Sri (8/5): Very good - Close to airport
- Jenny (10/5): - Loved the swimming pool, good eating and cold beer.
- Alison (10/5): - The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. It is close to everything.
- James (7/5): Comfortable, pleasant, lovely staff, good value for money on an isolated island. - Adequate - more fresh fruit would have been appreciated.
Great steak dinner in restaurant. The ceiling fan really only had two settings slow and ridiculously fast.
The ironing board wouldn’t stay up.
- James (10/5): - Great
- David (8/5): Very good -
- Maryann (10/5): Exceptional - Friendly staff
- Andrew (8/5): Meals very good ; enjoyed the pool - Location to the ferry to Thursday Island Single bed but it was ok
- Karina (8/5): Very good - the pool is wonderful a bit out dated but clean
- Frank (9/5): Superb -
- Kathrin (8/5): Very good -
- Benjamin (8/5): Very good -
- Benjamin (10/5): Exceptional - Every thing was exactly what I liked and wanted however the cost is still quit high for what it is but that not really the fault of the place or people. I understand it’s expensive to staff and shipping costs in remote locations, so it understandable.
- Geoff (9/5): Lovely spot, good value convenient for airport would recommend - We stayed in a king room 101 located in the block of 4 or 5 rooms. The room was clean spacious and well equipped. Bed was comfortable. The resort was very quiet as we were well back from the public areas.. Loved how well maintained and attractive the gardens were. The pool was such a treat after spending time in a part of the world where swimming in the ocean is not an option.
Continental brekky left in fridge was fine, dinner in the beer garden was excellent ,staff all very friendly and $15 transfer per person to the airport very convenient. Definitely walkable from the ferry as there is a cement footpath all the way if you have wheelie bags. Sunset and sunrise from the jetty recommended as is getting a coffee from the cafe at the supermarket( open before 7am at least on a weekday) Room had very strong smell of room freshener on arrival …..bit much
- Nomoa (9/5): Superb - Loved everything friendly staff comfortable beds love the pool Nothing really I had the best experience
- Mark (8/5): Very good -
- Bonner (10/5): Perfect single bedroom - The single Donga 105 love the colour red nd black. And verandah. Nothing
- Christopher (10/5): - Room was clean and staff were friendly and helpful. Good transportation options, although if coming in from Tuesday Island by ferry it would be easy to walk to the hotel assuming that you didn’t have a lot of bags. Pub and restaurant onsite for lunch and dinner, food was excellent.
- Elizabeth (9/5): Superb -
- valerie (8/5): - The hotel is adequate but I thought very expensive for what it was compared to other remote locations. The room I had was a superior king suite so I was expecting more. The room was very dated and the old air conditioner very noisy. For a self rated 4 star property I would have expected at least a hairdryer as they did have a pool but noway to dry long thick hair. The most annoying thing was the room was very hot and only one fixed key which you needed to turn the a/c on. When I went for a meal and removed the key and came back and the room was stifling hot again. The hotel adjacent had nice pub food.
- Robyn (8/5): Fantastic - It was clean, good location and staff were excellent
- John (10/5): - Friendly service and good value.
- Christopher (10/5): - all good, basic but comfy
- David (8/5): Very good -
