• ehunt003 (10/5): so so lovely - Best decision of our trip! Wonderful traditional Japanese breakfast, traditional tatami room, onsen, and the staff. The rooms were quiet and clean and the 8 tatami room was a great size for two people. We originally signed up for one Japanese breakfast and one western breakfast but changed two two days of Japanese breakfast and experiencing how yummy and fun it was.

We travelled with our 20 month old son so we had the 4 bed tatami style room which was perfect for us, he loved having room to move and to be able to see the outside world like watch birds from the window. Staff were so accomodating and kind to us we felt very lucky to be staying in such a friendly ryokan. I loved the onsen and wish I had the time to enjoy it more! Very relaxing and a beautiful start to a busy day of sightseeing. The coffee in the lobby was so great and we thoroughly enjoyed the snacks and refreshments each afternoon. We loved walking only 5 minutes down the street to the local playground. We enjoyed the quiet area and easily caught buses from very close by. We enjoyed the supermarkets close proximity as well as the coffee shop! We would definitely stay again and will recommend to family and friends!

Nice hot tub (technically not an onsen, but no real noticeable difference.) Price was reasonable for a Ryokan in Kyoto. Withing walking distance of Kyoto Station. #50 bus went both ways right in from of the stay, opening ride opportunities even further.

The ryokan is beautiful and truly authentic, and the room was amazing—spacious, peaceful, and furnished in traditional Japanese style, which made our stay feel very special. The staff were incredibly kind, attentive, and welcoming, always ready to help and making us feel at home from the moment we arrived. Even though we stayed only one night, the experience was memorable and gave us a true taste of Japanese hospitality. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a genuine and relaxing stay in Kyoto.
• SoCal99955 (10/5): Very nice ryokan stay in Kyoto - We had a wonderful stay at Ryokufuso for a couple of nights in Kyoto. Unfortunately, we only had a couple of nights and, because our schedule was still up in the air at time of booking, we were unable to book a meal while we were there -- by the time we arrived they were fully booked. We've heard the food is fantastic and hope to make it back again. Our room was very comfortable with the tatami mats and futon beds. The bath/shower (which is a combined wet room - the toilet is separate) was actually a bit bigger than I expected. They have a wonderful onsen, with views of Kyoto (for the men -- I don't know about the women's side). Without exception, all of the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Because of our short stay, we taxi'd more than walked, but the location seemed very convenient to everything we wanted to see during the visit. The entire facility was very clean and orderly. We will definitely stay again when in Kyoto.
• vagabondodelmondo (10/5): A mix of traditional ryokan and modern hotel - We stayed just one night so my friends could experience a ryokan. Rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable. The food was incredibly varied and creative--beautifully presented. I really enjoyed the large ofuro (hot pool). I've stayed in more traditional ryokan, this is more like a mix between traditional ryokan and modern hotel. Traditional ryokan where one is served your dinner in your room are now extremely expensive, so this was a good compromise to have the kaiseki experience at a more affordable price. There's a big temple complex nearby and a busy street with restaurants and shops a short walk away. It's not the prime location in Kyoto but there were no negatives other than the early 10 am check out. As mentioned, it's a good ryokan experience at a reasonable price.
• Z4636SKrk (8/5): Solid Modern Ryokan Experience - Solid, well-staffed Ryokan experience, located reasonably close to Gojo Station and in the center of Kyoto. Some things like the bathrooms and halls definitely have more modern elements to them, which could detract from the most “traditional” experience but make for a more comfortable stay in my opinion. The Japanese breakfast was delightful in its variety and changes daily, so I highly recommend that if you’re looking for a reasonably priced and convenient way to enjoy Kyoto cuisine. However, you should have an adventurous palate if you’re not used to traditional Japanese food.
• Feukead (10/5): Family Vibe Ryokan - The staff was very friendly and helpful! It was a good location with good public connections to the main station. With direct bus to Nijio castle in front of the accomodation. This was a first time Ryokan experience which was very nice.

One detail we especially appreciated was the option to leave our luggage before check-in, which allowed us to explore Kyoto freely and stress-free. Wearing the yukatas provided by the ryokan was another highlight — it made us feel like real Japanese locals, fully immersed in the culture. Walking through the ryokan dressed in yukata added a magical touch to the stay. The facilities themselves are beautiful and carefully designed, transporting you straight into vintage Japan. Every corner reflects tradition, calm, and authenticity, creating a peaceful atmosphere that perfectly contrasts with the busy city outside. If you’re looking for a ryokan that combines kindness, comfort, and a true sense of Japanese tradition, Ryokofuso is an absolute must in Kyoto. We would come back without hesitation.
• lhedrick13 (10/5): Best place to stay in Japan - Ryokufuso was by far the best place I stayed while in Japan. The staff are incredibly friendly and willing to speak in English. It felt like staying in a friend's home. The onsen was always very clean and stocked with anything you'd need. The rooms were very comfortable and allowed you to experience a more traditional stay than most other places in Japan, as the other places we stayed seemed to adopt more Western practices. We also had the absolute pleasure of having both dinner and breakfast while there and the chefs are very talented. Overall, the staff of Ryokufuso played a large part for why our group says Kyoto is the best city to visit. We will be back!

Silent and relaxing atmosphere in a Classic Ryokan with a very passionate staff which helped us even as we were leaving, giving US instruction on how to Better reach the station while carrying the luggage. Position is great, bus stop in front of the Ryokan and metro at 5 minutes. Right in the center of Kyoto. Nice public bathroom but there's also private shorts Only down side, there's limited space for laundry, but there are multiple laundry stations all around. Lovely stay thanks to the very nice staff.

The highlight of my stay was the attention and care provided by Yuka. She taught me how to properly wear the traditional garments provided. Two nights at this traditional ryokan transported us to a different world: traditional garments kimono-style, tatami floors and kaiseki dinners. It was a great experience. Highly recommended!

The staff were warm and spoke excellent English, they assisted us with storing our bags before and after our stay. The rooms were well appointed and very comfortable. The kaiseki meal and Japanese breakfast were delicious and well matched to the season. The onsen was clean and comfortable. The location was very conveniently close to a bus line and Kyoto station. I can’t say enough good things about the facilities and staff. A perfect Ryokan for someone that wants all the tradition and care without any stuffiness or pretension.

• 673vivianaa (10/5): Great service and decor. Close to the station - I loved my first stay in 2018 so much that I decided to stay again. The room was top-notch, with an inoki bath, and the service was terrific. We had the shabu-shabu dinner and Japanese breakfast (you have to book these in advance, so don’t just show up!) The only thing the hotel could do is ensure that all guests respect the rules for the onsen a bit more strictly. There is a booklet in the room that explains everything, and the person who accompanies you to the room shows it to you as well. However, a guest didn’t respect any of them, and it was very unpleasant. They barged in for dinner, asking to eat, despite it being by reservation, and the same person didn’t wash themselves before entering the bath in the onsen, which was infuriating. They spoiled it for everyone. Advice to tourists: stay at the hotel, as it is fantastic, with great amenities and unparalleled service. However, please be respectful and refrain from acting like a typical tourist.

Overall, I recommended it a lot.

• Stephanie (10/5): - We wanted a ryokan experience and we definitely got it. We booked for dinner and breakfast, ate like kings everyday! Staff are so warm and friendly, they also have very little staff so over the course of our 2 night stay, we saw literally the same people and it gave a very comforting feeling. They do have a communal bath, not an onsen, so it's not one with an onsen if that's what you are looking for. The room are comfortable, we did book a smaller one , enough for 2 people but did struggle to lay open 2 large suitcase in the room, resulting in one around the corridor near the sink. It is also an older establishment, everything was clean but can tell it's a bit dated. The location is not too bad, I suspect all over Kyoto this would be the case, especially if you want a Ryokan but it was a bigger distance to traverse to the nearest train station. We did rely on bus more which the nearest station then was a 5 mins walk. Overall, very happy with my stay and the hospitality we received.

Its central location made it easy to get to bus stops or subway stations which saved our feet so we could walk more at our destinations. I would highly recommend!
• Louis (10/5): A must-stay ryokan in Kyoto - We absolutely loved this Ryokan. It's located on a quiet street, not far from the JR train station. It's a great blend of traditional and modern. The room has tatami mats plus a separate alcove with table, chair, refrigerator - everything you'd expect from a modern hotel.

The floor layout was inconvenient, how from the toilet you had to walk across the whole room to then wash your hands. The room was extremely tidy and i loved the seating overlooking the window. The public bathhouse, in the hotel, was amazing and while I'm not eager to sleep on the floor again, I'm forever going to be on the lookout for sentos and onsens.

Especially loved the service during dinner time that was made special by one of the staff members. The room was spectacular, definitely one of the best rooms I’ve ever been too. The room had really nice views a big bathroom room with lovely amenities and it was really spacious. I’ve only stayed one night but I would definitely stay more. Also loved the onsen that I was able to enjoy by myself.

Their breakfast and dinner options were as good as any traditional Japanese restaurant I tried in Kyoto. The public bath had a scenic view from the 6th floor.

The bus took us straight from Kyoto Station to the front of the building, and the other bus stops that take you to the tourist hotspots were a <10 minute walk away. Despite being a small ryokan, our room was very spacious and the staff were super sweet and friendly. When we arrived one of them (I wish I remembered his name!) gave us a quick tour of our suite and how to use the amenities. They also have an onsen to enjoy even if you have tattoos or piercings, which we really appreciated. The next time I’m in Kyoto I’m for sure staying here!

The staff was very friendly and helpful, especially when I lost my luggage on the train. The top-floor room offered a stunning view of Kyoto, and the atmosphere was authentic and peaceful. They allowed us to store our bags before and after check in/check out so that we could go explore Kyoto without having to haul our stuff around. They were also very helpful to help us acquire a taxi big enough for 6 and provide local restaurant recommendations. We were on the road side and so the rooms had quite a bit of traffic noise, but other than that everything was great.
• 344blankas (10/5): Absolutely loved the authentic feel of my stay - The whole experience of staying at Ryokufuso felt very traditional and authentic. The hosts and the entire staff are absolutely lovely any very patiently explain guests how things are done and worn in a Japanese guesthouse. It is rather close to the Kyoto station which is a plus and while it’s a longer, around 30 minutes walk to the main sights, the Kyoto public transportation system is excellent. It was also great value for money, would be happy to return here.

However, apart from the tatami room with AC, it was brutally cold where the sink and shower were located (when I was travelling it was below 0°C, to be fair). Also, I was denied to make a reservation for their advertised dinner upon arriving (at 11am, and they stated same day reservations needed to be before noon, so…) which gravely disappointed me. The onsen looked nothing like the pictures, but it was still a nice experience in the hot bath. Despite these little things, I loved the room so much and the staff were very friendly so I would definitely come again!

Since I stayed here on my first day in Kyoto, I was a little confused with the bus system. The staff made sure to help me find the right place and checked to make sure I found it. I would highly recommend this to anyone who wants to that traditional feel with some modern comforts!
• ottot916 (10/5): An enjoyable ryokan - Frendliest staff and the loveliest of room, second stay and will be back. The location is nice and easily walkable from the main railway station, there's restaurants close by and a konbini isn't too far off. The onsen is nice and clean as well as all the amenities are provided, the yukatas are a nice addition.

• Heather (8/5): Good place! - Very friendly, helpful, and solicitous staff throughout the whole stay. The hotel is not really walking distance from the train station if you have any baggage. The sidewalks are asphalt and we both broke luggage wheels on the walk. The ryokan is in a quieter part of town, which can be good or bad depending on your desires. The facility itself is a little dated but clean and the staff is really so kind. The rooms were well-sized and the amenities sufficient. The tatami mats smell amazing, which is something I hadn't considered! We had the kaiseki dinner and also breakfast which were elaborate and full of interesting and new food items we hadn't had before. Again, this can be good or bad depending on your spirit of adventure. We utilized the onsen, which was clean and useful. If you are seeking a ryokan in Kyoto, I would recommend this one.

• Nikolaos (10/5): - Great traditional ryokan. If you want a gentle introduction to Japanese inns while in Kyoto city centre, you cannot go wrong with this one. We did n't manage to try the public bath, but room and service were excellent. Location is pretty good. There are a number of local "drinking holes" towards the station and a very popular ramen joint just a couple of blocks from the hotel (same street). We walked to the major Kyoto attractions although this might longer than others might willing to walk.

• Matthew (10/5): Unique Experience you have to try - Incredible staff that are so friendly and welcoming as soon as you walk in the door to the second you leave. We did meals with them that and had a great explanation of everything as well.
• Jay (8/5): - This is a pretty traditional ryokan. It’s pretty basic room and amenities. Spacious room with a nice and clean bathroom which is a must. If you’re looking for an average ryokan experience, you will get it. Definitely delivers for the price.

They were the nicest people. The facilities were great too. Food was delicious. The room was lovely. The onsen was relaxing. I'm very happy with my stay there.

• Samantha Louisa Ginn (10/5): - Very clean and comfortable stay. If want a ryokan experience, this is a good place to stay. However, do note that Kyoto station though walkable, is quite a distance if you don’t take a bus nearby. After a long day out, you will find walking a bit more is a drag. Didn’t get to experience their breakfast as they could not accommodate at arrival (fully booked). Our overall was generally very good. Try it to experience tatami style rooms.

I know some westerners might scoff at the mat style bedding in those rooms but they do warn you before you book, and I happened to find it quite charming and comfortable. Staff were so welcoming and the location is a five minute walk to a train station. Lovely hotel and our room was beautiful.

• Solomon (10/5): - Staff during the kaiseki meals were great. Explained all the dishes and how to eat them in english. Delivery of courses was timely. The 8 tatami mat room was cozy. Had a dedicated sitting area to enjoy tea by the window. Aircon and air filter worked well. The only inconvenience is that the sink is on the opposite side of the room from the bathroom. The onsen was not crowded at all on a Tuesday night. Overall, an enjoyable one night stay for a couple.

Bike rental is abt 4 blocksand they have another company they can arrange one for you. Bus to kyoto station stops in front of hotel but nearesteyro is abt 5 blocks away. This neighborhood is peaceful so you have to bus or metro to the touristy area if you want to be in the action, something to consider regarding location.

It was fun to see everyone in the dining room dressed authentically. The dinner was 8 courses of amazing food we would have never been exposed to elsewhere. The room was covered in tatami mats with mattress pads on the floor. There was a TV but we were having so much fun in the room that we never watched it. I had the onsen to myself. It was so hot that I couldn’t sit in it very long. There was tea and broth to make in the room. The experience was full on Japanese Ryoken style that we will enjoy talking about for years. It was a great value for the huge dinner and breakfast that is included plus the onsen experience. I am so glad I selected this property.

I also decided to do the dining experience and it was a delicious 5-course meal served in a lovely private room. Every part of my stay was the best I've ever experienced.
