- harry (10/5): - Great old hotel with a fantastic restaurant.
- Valeria (10/5): -
- Andrew (9/5): A most enjoyable stay and highly recommended for quality of food and service. - A lovely hotel specialising in top quality personal and friendly service. We had the best dinner of our two week tour at Elk Mountain. Room was a little small with limited space around the bed
- Mike (9/5): What a great and relaxing spot. - Great location; very quiet and peaceful. The restaurant was excellent, which was a good thing because it’s pretty far to another one! The restaurant staff was friendly and enjoyable. We liked everything.
- Amy (6/5): - Hotel was Ok clean, somewhat historic but food was nothing special, service was enthusiastic but just adequate
- Sara (10/5): Wonderful hotel to break up the long drive between Yellowstone and Denver. - Beautifully furnished historic hotel with cosy relaxed atmosphere. Excellent food in the restaurant.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Super cute great food very clean
- Don (10/5): - The ribeye dinner was incredible
- Belinda (9/5): Superb -
- Glenn (10/5): Exceptional -
- Linda (10/5): A truly beautiful Hotel with an amazing history, lovely staff. - The breakfast was okay nothing special and a bit pricey, and to be honest for the price of the room I would have expected the breakfasts to be included, especially as there are no there places to get food in the vicinity There are no coffee facilities in the room, nor are there any coffee stations in the hotel like there are in so many others. although the girl on duty di provide us with a coffee machine and some coffee and milk when asked
- Jeff (8/5): Cool historic hotel with friendly staff that is a nice change from the typical I-80 lodging. - Friendly, pleasant staff. It's a nice change from the normal hotels along I-80 in Wyoming. It is an interesting old building decorated with historical photos and artwork. The room did not have air conditioning and was not well-ventilated. It was not much of a problem for our stay but might have been uncomfortable with warmer weather.
- Joe (8/5): Would definitely make a return stay. - Tucked away off the beaten path, a gem. Excellent dinner and breakfast offerings, well prepared. A well-kept property, comfortable. Nothing much else going on in the small village.
- Michael (10/5): Wonderful owners and staff! Exceptionally quiet and relaxing. - Historic aspect and a very nice on site restaurant. Road to town from the east that gps sends you is a dirt/gravel road whereas from the west is a nice little highway.
- Laurie (10/5): Lovely historic Inn - Enjoyed the stay at this unique historic inn. Service was excellent as well as the food. Very quiet and peaceful
- Kerrie (10/5): Exceptional -
- John (8/5): Overall, an amazing experience and we would certainly recommend it to friends and family. - Dinner and breakfast were wonderful. The bathroom was delightful! We loved the grounds and the outdoor gazebo. The staff was friendly and professional. Having coffee earlier, around 6:30 instead of 7:30, would have been appreciated. The bed was slightly small.
- Lisa (8/5): Pleasent stay in historic hotel. - Beautiful Old hotel with attention to detail.
Atmosphere calm and pleasent.
Nice surroundings.
- kevin (10/5): - I like places with history. This on has over 100 years of it. It has been renovated and has a lot of the original building. Staff was very friendly.
Nice quiet place of the main freeway.
- Anonymous (7/5): Good - history
- Pete (10/5): Amazing Place to Visit - This is an amazing place to stay. I travel a lot for business and have stayed a lot of places, and none has been cleaner, more hospitable and have historic charm as The Elk Mountain Hotel. The restaurant prepares wonderful food, there is a VERY extensive bar/cocktail menu and the entire property is meticulously cared for. While enjoying a drink on the balcony we were able to watch 5 whitetail deer which grazed right in the front yard. Easy 10 out of 10.
- Do (10/5): Exceptional - we loved the personal touch and obvious attention to detail of this property. the food was also amazing
- Matt (10/5): - Wonderful piece of Americana. Great craftsmanship. Excellent food with great waitstaff. Beware-no TV. Best part to me!! And no elevator.
Beautiful place.
- Cheryl (10/5): - Wonderful property.
- rick (10/5): - Very friendly staff, room and amenities excellent. Lots of area-period history to peruse!
Food was very good too!
- Liane (10/5): - Susanne was a one-gal show. She checked us in; gave us a cocktail menu; provided our meals with courtesy and a smile—-just a wonderful asset!
B/T/W: The last question is incredibly devisive, sexist and racist (why does the question not ask about appropriateness for Anglo, Canadian, Native American, Hetero and male travelers for example?). This property is good for all types of travelers; however, given its age, physically impaired persons may have difficulty with the stairs.
- Daina (10/5): - Absolutely everything was perfect!
- Kara (10/5): - This property is amazing! It is tucked away off the beaten path and is so beautiful amongst the trees. The gal who runs the Hotel, Lauren, is the absolute best, caring for her guests with impeccable care and attention. She is the backbone to this lovely hotel that offers meals in a delicious on-site restaurant. Unfortunately, I have recently become someone who requires special foods and a specific diet to remain healthy and she accommodated very well with both meals we enjoyed with this facility. The rooms are very quaint and comfortable, maintaining the beauty of the hotel that has been there as a hotel since 1905 I think we were told. Would definitely stay here again on our way through this part of the country, we were not disappointed on any level!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - So quite and serene. Beautiful resort, great food, very friendly staff. Great night s slept after a Wonderful meal with friends. Sooooo clean and well decorated. Loved it. Perfect Father's Day get away. We’ll do it again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful property and staff was great!
- Susan (10/5): Go back to a simpler time... - Beautifully renovated historic hotel. Very quiet and close to Saratoga and Encampment for exploring. Wonderful staff and good food. No TV or microwave or fridge in room, didnt miss it!
- Carla (10/5): Beautiful historic hotel - We loved this charming historic hotel. Immaculate, friendly and great food!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Yellowstone Travelers - Great stay at this place. The rooms are a little small, but that's just a part of being an old hotel. Food was excellent. The hotel was a great surprise after the drive thru this little old town.
- Katherine (10/5): - Lovely location: very quiet and remote. And the food is fabulous! Thank you so much for a restful stop on our trip.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - We liked being secluded in nature. It was very quite and peaceful. Would have like more dining choices. but what the chef prepared for us was great!
- Teresa (10/5): Living history. - Quiet, quaint, and quality. Lovely furnished rooms.
- Patty (10/5): - The house was very nicely furnished and the bed was comfortable. Our room had its own bathroom that was very clean and up to date. The only downside is the area where the hotel is located has tons of mosquitoes. If you want to walk outside make sure you have bug spray. There is no place to eat for miles so you need to tell the owner you will be eating dinner there if you want. Breakfast is a set time so again if you want to eat get down at the time they say.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - I will never stay at this property, unfair owners.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Delightful place, quiet, charming, very detailed and well taken care of.
- Mark (10/5): One of my favorite mountains in Wyoming - Great Historic Hotel, restored to The Victorian Era. Dinner was fabulous, one of the best steak dinners I have ever had in my life!
- Joe (10/5): - Nice Hotel with Nice and Helpful Staff. Would definitely recommend this to anyone.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I was a little surprised by the artwork, but I ended up really liking it.
- William (10/5): Real hidden gem - Wonderful stay with amazingly good food.
- Denise (8/5): Quaint little hotel. - Quaint little hotel with a fabulous restaurant. There isn't much to the town other than open air and pretty views. Only disappointment was no TV and you can't bring in any beverages (wine). Loved the old pictures and history of the hotel.
- Ed (10/5): - Historic hotel that is clean, comfortable bed, good shower with plenty of hot water. No a/c but not needed, No TV.
Food is excellent
- mary (10/5): Outstanding - Great food and lovely small hotel. Near fantastic scenic byway.
- David (2/5): Money Grabbing Hotel - We accidentally booked this hotel for the wrong date. Realizing our mistake we called hotels.com and the hotel directly within 6 hours of making the reservation. Hotels.com did their best however the elk mountain management point blank refused to help, either by canceling the reservation or offering credit for a future nights stay. They instead ran the credit card and took our money only to claim later that they had to refuse business for that night due to our reservation in the 6 hours that it took us to contract them. Inspite of being given 48 hours notice the hotel management could only berate us on our mistake and point out how we were in the wrong, a fact we were very much aware of. The complete lack of customer service is saddening and dishartening that as managers there was no common decency or flexibility, they just wanted the money.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Beautiful historic Inn - We chose the Elk Mountain Inn as a midway stop between the Grand Tetons and Denver. What a lovely experience. The Inn is beautifully restored. We loved roaming the grounds and checking out the pictures showing the history of the area. The restaurant was simply fabulous. We enjoyed dinner and breakfast. Susan spent time giving us route recommendations to make the final leg of our journey more enjoyable.
- Verne (10/5): The Best of the Best!!!!!!!!!! - On a scale of 1-10 this was a 12! The hotel is immaculate. The furnishings are perfect for the eras they want to depict. The food is prepared by a Cordon Bleu chef trained in Paris. If you want a place for just two people to enjoy total peace and quiet (no TV or children, scenic, nothing to do besides walk nearby!) this is it. WE WILL BE BACK! I can't say enough positive things about this hotel, the owners and the staff. It was nothing short of incredible. I've been to a lot of places and nothing tops the Elk Mountain Hotel. It is worth every cent. This is a rare and wonderful find.
- Nick (8/5): - Very secluded. Feels like a bed and breakfast. No TV in rooms. Very historic and quaint
- Verified traveler (10/5): Wyoming oasis - We had a great stay, with a warm welcome. The atmosphere of the place is tremendous; it ozzes its distinguished history. Very good value.
- James (6/5): Historic hinterland homestead, hardly hotel - Way out in the boonies. Our access from the interstate was via a gravel road. Internet is like dial-up, and far from supporting video streaming. Bathtub handle fell off as soon as I touched it. If you are an irresponsible elk hunter, do not stay here, because there is a fee associated with every possible misdeed and you will be presented with the list of consequences upon arrival. Most like a bed and breakfast, and indeed historic, but we started to become gunshy about touching anything for fear of breaking the rules
- Addison (10/5): Great hotel - Stopped here for just the night after viewing the solar eclipse earlier in the day. We were 3 hours later than expected and they opened the kitchen back up for us. Not just for a snack but for whatever we wanted from the menu. Dinner was excellent and breakfast the next day was as well. Room was very comfortable, bathroom clean and modern. Owners and staff were exceptional. It is off the beaten path but, within 6 miles of the interstate. I highly suggest going out of the way to stay here...an excellent experience.
- Holly (10/5): What a great find in the "wilderness"! - Found this wonderful out of the way, 1905, renovated hotel in Elk Mt. WY. that included a great French chef as proprietor! Dinner was great! Trout river right next door! Will be going back!
- Lyomar (10/5): A Hidden Gem - Loved my stay at this inn. Just a wonderfully welcoming/homey atmosphere. The food was incredible! Elk Mountain WY is a little out of the way, but worth the trip.
- John (10/5): Historic and beautifully preserved Hotel - We stayed one night and were thrilled with the accommodations and setting. The dining experience was excellent as well. Interestingly, the proprietress is a Cordon Bleu trained chef and the food was terrific. We would definitely stay again.
- Jo Anne (10/5): Great "off-the beaten-path" place to stay. - I fell in love with this place and everything about it. Susan, owner/Cordon Bleu Chef, was so nice and friendly. I would go back in a heartbeat. In fact, before I left, I told her I was coming back next summer to stay. For the WHOLE summer. :)
- Deborah (10/5): A Memorable Experience! - What a beautifully appointed, elegant historic inn with the delightful inn keepers, Susan and Andrew! We ate an amazing dinner the night of our stay...big city gourmet.
When we checked in, Andrew heard that we were interested in watching our college team play in the NCAA Baseball championship games. He went and found it on the parlor television and had it on for us.
Susan knew we were heading over the Snowy Mountain Scenic Drive the following morning and she gathered maps. When we arrived for breakfast, she shared incredible options and sites for us.
The gracious attention for detail made us feel pampered.
We HIGHLY recommend staying...and eating at The Historic Elk Mountain Hotel.
- Ralph (10/5): - It was a very nice place to stay and the food is outstanding. The menus are great for anyone that enjoys fine dinging.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - we had a very nice stay, Susan runs a tight ship and is a wonderful chef
- Ronnie (8/5): The Elk Mountain Hotel - The hotel was very nice but, probably because of the very thin walls, there was no tv.
This combined with the fact that it's out in the middle of nowhere there wasn't much to do for us after our arrival.
Still, a very nice hotel, hosted by a very nice, English couple.
- Allen (10/5): Beautifully restored Victorian hotel - We discovered this hotel online after being recommended to another, where we couldn't make reservations. The property is beautifully restored & very quiet, as we were the only guest that night. The owners were charming & we enjoyed talking with them. Sue (owner) is a classically trained Cordon Bleu Chef and prepared a wonderful dinner & breakfast for us!
- Verified traveler (10/5): A good time! - Susan and Arthur are the best hosts. Our room was comfortable and full of interesting antiques. The bathroom was 21st century. The food, of course, is just delicious. The corned beef hash for breakfast was really good!
- VivaMH (10/5): Delightful and delicious! - Our overnight stay at this delightful and historic inn was very comfortable. Dinner and breakfast in the restaurant were delicious. We are so pleased we stayed here rather than heading for one of the larger towns.
