Guest Reviews
- Concepcion (8/5): -
- Stephen (7/5): - Conveniently located. Clean and beds were comfortable.
- Jay,Naurice (8/5): Ok - I liked that we had a table, 2 chairs, stand for our food , plates, and utensils. An additional area for our personal products. The TV was situated so both beds could see. Overall Ok Water pressure for the toilet, but it flushed and microwave, the plate was to big it wouldn't turn.
- Marietta (7/5): -
- Tikhomirov (1/5): The room was very uncomfortable, dark, and had dirty floors. There wasn’t enough light, and it hadn’t been renovated. Ev - Nothing Everything
- Gonzalo (7/5): -
- Brett (7/5): -
- Joseph (2/5): It sucked. - Nothing, really. It would have kept the rain off me had it been raining. Heat was always on and even though the nightly lows were in the 30s I had to keep a window open all night. It was fairly miserable. Beyond that, the room interior was more like something I'd find in a small town in New Mexico for $45/night, not something in Chicago for over $100/night.
- Powell (9/5): - Everything No heating
- Abdulrahman (1/5): Nightmare - Nothing Room smell like dead rat, blood spot on pillows, bathroom handle broken, a lot of e exposed else wires, fan of bathroom not working with huge amount of clogged dirt, door not secure anyone can literally get in to your room. Room as general like abonded place and someone came in and open it . It was nightmare not even 0 star.

- Julia (8/5): We enjoyed our stay it wasn’t noisy and it was relaxing. - Very convenient location and it was ground level and had everything I needed for a three day stay! It had a fridge and microwave and very convenient closet and a closed off full bathroom! The beds made creaking noises when you move around and I do that a lot in my sleep. The blankets were very thin as well. The ceiling light was very bright as well so we used the lamp with it.
- Lesly (10/5): Enjoyed my stay! - Safe and comfy! Enjoyed the waffles a fun experience to make :)
- Nathali (10/5): -
- Stephanie (4/5): Do not recommend. - The person in the lobby was friendly, helpful and welcoming. The room was a disaster. The bedding was either dirty or stained. Everything in the room was old, outdated, broken furniture. The pictures they use to advertise the room have to be from when this establishment first opened doors. Every single wall in the room I stayed had cracks. The sealing had pieces that were about to fall off. The bathroom was filled with bugs, the toilet was crooked, and we realized that if pushed back to place water would start running out from underneath. The bathroom door wouldn’t close, so there goes privacy. The beds are full size beds so it doesn’t accommodate 4 grown adults comfortably. The room had an unpleasant odor to it. I got what I paid for, last minute booking.
- Tianyi (8/5): -
- Deborah (8/5): - The room felt like home, very relaxing.
- jennifer (6/5): - They need to get new furniture and more lights. It was so hot in the room I couldn't lower the heat
- Kisha (8/5): -
- Stephen (5/5): Satisfactory stay in a convenient location - Convenient location, pleasant staff. Shower water pressure very low.
- Tania (10/5): -
- Michael (6/5): Nice small motel but very basic and could benefit from a few small changes. - Nice Room. It has a fridge and a microwave. Comfortable bed and decent shower. Nice location, quiet at night. You can walk to many restaurants and stores and even the train into the city. No water - not even in the lobby. When I complained, the worker got me 2 small plastic bottles of water. Breakfast was late and consisted of packaged cakes and a waffle machine that wasn't ready on both mornings I was there. They have a vending machine for a few snacks. No stopper for the bathtub.
- Paria (7/5): Overall good to stay. - Location is really nice. Small washroom
Washroom door doesn’t close
- hilber (10/5): -
- Catherine (7/5): - The staff were attentive and friendly. The rooms were not fancy, but they had all the necessary amenities and they were very clean. The A/C unit was VERY noisy, and placed so high up I could not reach the controls to change settings. Also, the fridge and microwave could not both be plugged in at the same time because the two plugs didn't both fit completely.
- tlo (8/5): -
- Portia (6/5): - The room was ok the man owner had gentle sweet spirit, the woman was ok but very rude when I ask her about why don’t they have the dnd door hangers. They would go in our room after we left. I was leaving little traps to be able to tell if they can in. They failed every time. I confronted the lady she said we change towels and take out trash . I told her she didn’t because trash was still in my room. I bought my own whit rags and they took them thinking they were there’s.if they had not come in my room without my permission this would have neva happened. I was there for a church event and my God sister shared a room with me. When she came in the room the one time she looked at the beds and saw my sister bed was messed up and not mine and just looked at us. No ma’am we just shared a room for church. I fixed my bed back up myself because I like a neat part of the room . I only gave a 4 star because of the men. Will not be going back to the establishment and I told her. I was not nasty just told her to lower her voice and I will not be back. Have a nice day. Went back to my room and began packing up. O there breakfast was only boiled egg stale cereal and a blueberry cream cheese danish. No real food as indicated on web site. False info.
- Lil (3/5): good for a one night stay. nothing to entice you to stay for anything more then sleep and leave. - location. free parking. friendly staff. fridge and microwave in room. breakfast: waffle iron didnt work. coffee weak. poor selection.
room: maintenance needed. rusting grates for heaters. lumpy pillows. painting needed in bathroom, towels need replacement..thin and old.
- Esten (8/5): Pleasurable stay for one night and budget friendly, worth it for a night stay in Chicago. - Very comfortable location, safe area. Cute looking inn. I basically liked everything, but the shower was a little wonky. Water was hot, not as hot as I usually like it, but hot enough.
- Lorenzo (10/5): I'm not picky or sensitive, clean and affordable is all I need. -
- Jeff (7/5): Great place for someone on the go. - Customer service was outstanding. Very friendly people. Willing to help you out. A safe place for the price. The room was dated. But functional, needed more lighting.
- David (2/5): Avoid at all costs if you're sensitive to stink - One of the worst nights I’ve ever spent in a motel. The rooms are dark and depressing and the stink is off the charts. On a scale of 1-10 I’d put it at a 10 for chemical odor. When I asked about this at the front desk they said all the rooms are the same and it’s due to chemical products used by the cleaning staff. Whatever they’re using has a particularly noxious odor that feels like it’s stabbing at your lungs, making it difficult to breathe. I woke up multiple times during the night just to open the front door and take some deep breaths of fresh air. It’s terrible in this day and age that hotel owners don’t realize how many people are chemically sensitive, may have breathing/respiratory issues, or just want to breathe fresh clean air instead of chemical stink. If you’re odor-sensitive in any way you’ll have a very rough time at this motel. I strongly advise finding another place.
- Michael (8/5): - Good location near where I had to be. Lots of dining options.
- Marcella (6/5): - Shopping
- Burton D (2/5): - I’m not sure why there’s a lot of good reviews here, maybe we just got a bad room. I wasn’t expecting much from a cheap one star hotel but we were sickened as soon as we entered our room. Very tacky craftsmanship of the room, the WiFi didn’t work, the toilet rocked about an inch, space heater and walls looked like they’ve been textured and painted 100 times, there was no smoke detector, the bed was paper thin, no second security lock on the door so anyone with a key could walk in on you at any time. Our bath towels were about the size of hand towels. I really appreciated the man working the counter, he was very polite and helpful and did refund us for the rest of our trip. We only stayed one night of our 4 day stay. I would definitely look elsewhere but try at your own risk.
- Neil (10/5): -
- Nicole (8/5): - Free parking, Safe, Quiet (never heard a neighbor). Bed was comfortable but very squeaky. Staff in the morning saw me come in to return my key and they seemed to hide from me. She'd peak at me then leave again. This might have been before receptionist started (it was 6:45 am) but whoever the worker was could have said good morning or instructed me where to leave my key. I did not see the 'drop box' until after.
- Okyeremah (8/5): - Staff was very cordial and professional. Beds were very firm and hard on the back, but was still able to sleep. Light fixtures in the bathroom were loose so the lights went off and on periodically. Good water pressure. This is on the South Side of Chicago, so be wary of your surroundings.
- Jerry (8/5): - It was good, except I had to park far away, someone took my parking spot, other than that and no breakfast available. But that was my fault for waiting till 10am
- Robert (4/5): -
- Patience (6/5): - Room smelled mildewy and musty. How water was non existent
- Segura Guedez (10/5): -
- Carol (6/5): - When it said breakfast should be Continental. They offered coffee and pancakes. You make the pancakes yourself. It's ideal for a place to sleep. First time I've ever paid for my room bewchecking ielving.
- Gael (10/5): - It was the perfect location for many of our plans. The owner/staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable and nicely decorated - quaint. I liked the added touch of the lights on around the property. Very much enjoyed our stay here. Highly recommended.
- Susan (6/5): - The room smelled so strongly of fragrance, we had to air it out and locate the source which was the air conditioner filter and clean that. Have to wonder what they are covering up. Bedding also had too much fragrance. Even though we reserved the room for 3 adults and confirmed on check in that we had 3 adults, we only got towels for 2 people both days. No extra toilet paper in the room and no tissues.
- Marcos (10/5): - Everything you need, for a reasonable rate in a safe area.
- Aaliyah (8/5): - Stayed here for Lollapalooza and honestly if you’re on a tight budget and won’t be inside the motel 24/7 just needing a place to rest/bathe then I’ll say this motel is just what you need!
I like how transportation was really close to the orange line and there were some stores that open 24/7 like Walgreens.
They gave me new towels and face towels every day which I appreciate!
My only suggestion/con is that they should do some major renovation as it was really worn down from the walls and floor inside!
- Holmes (10/5): -
- Vanessa (8/5): - I’d stay again
- Jenn (8/5): Very nice stay - The hotel was fine. The staff were extremely professional. (Even when they had to help us at midnight with a new key). My only issue with Gateway was the water pressure. Everything else was spot on
- delgado (10/5): -
- John (4/5): - The Place got us through the night but we kinda wished we had slept elseware
- Gina (8/5): Very good - Great location, and it was very clean
- David (10/5): Great Stay, Area and Cost - Was a great stay in a great area for great cost compared to everything around. everything was clean and roomy. had a great stay and staff was very nice.
- lisa (10/5): Hotel - Loved everything about this place close alot of food places and shopping staff was friendly very helpful
- Kathleen (8/5): - On a very busy street. Traffic noise
- Jessica (4/5): - I booked a room late at night after my flight was cancelled and I was leaving early the next morning on a flight out of a different airport. I really just wanted to get three hours or so of decent sleep on a real bed versus a chair at the airport, and I don't think I got any sleep at all. There were all kinds of noises and sounds that kept me from drifting off plus an ambulance that rolled through right as I was turning out the lights. Waste of money and time.
- Ieshia (9/5): Will stay again! - Clean and quiet
- Sean (10/5): - Very nice staff and clean rooms! Also felt very safe staying here.
- Aspen (8/5): Great place to stay while we were in the city - Good atmosphere no loud noise great beds for some good sleep and if you smoke they have little side tables with chairs and ashtrays outside your doors The furniture is very old antiques so be aware of this and the water pressure was not great also the room had a smell when we first got there.
- Jessica (10/5): - A really cute motel that was perfect for one night. Good location and clean room. I would stay here again
- Alphonso (10/5): - It was a good place to stay last minute.
- Bryan (10/5): - Good price and good receptionist.clean rooms and well furnished
- Brandon (9/5): Superb -
- Harrison (10/5): - Great stay for cheap!
- Perez (9/5): For the few nights I stayed, I had no problem. The host was great with communication and helpful. - The room was clean and comfortable, parking was easy, the lighting was good too. The water pressure in the shower was really low, however the sink and everything else was great.
- Donnie Marie (8/5): - I liked the fact that the property and room was clean. The manager and his wife were available at all times. I will stay there again.
- Tamara (10/5): Exceptional -
- Paulina (10/5): Great stay!! - The stay was great! But we did see insects crawling in the wall…and the service was very friendly.
- Hannah (9/5): Superb -
- LUIS (10/5): - The best
- Verified traveler (8/5): Decent stay - It was a decent stay at an affordable price off a busy area.
- jean (10/5): grandparent visit - Older, nice little inn. friendly, helpful staff. perfect location for what i was doing.
- Gina (10/5): - Clean room, friendly staff, good coffee, great location! Can't recommend them highly enough!
- Siste (4/5): The folks who checked us in were very kind and helpful. - Good location for our trip. Police altercation occurred in the room next to us.
- Henry (8/5): - Great place to sray
- Thomas (7/5): Good -
- Langford (7/5): Good -
- Larry (6/5): - This is a very hard property to rate because there was very little "in the middle." Some things like the courtesy and kindness of the staff, the overall cleanliness of our room and the high quality pillows deserve clear 5+ ratings. The rest - walls that had crumbling plaster, a noisy air conditioner, no ice machine, and a waffle maker that didn't work which made the complimentary breakfast deserved ratings of 1-. But, keeping in mind that you get what you pay for, we got a clean room with a comfortable bed and awesome pillows at a very good price.
- Amy (10/5): - Loved parking right outside my room! And the window opened for fresh air. There were 2 chairs and a little table outside the room which was really nice. Very safe. Coffee and packaged pastries at the front desk in the morning. Id definitely stay here again if i came back
- Channing (10/5): - We had a pleasant stay for one night before flying out of Midway
- Verified traveler (8/5): Cozy and comfortable for 1 night - Conveniently located on a major suburban street; close to shopping, local eateries and train station; cozy and quaint decor added to comfortable atmosphere in a spacious room; great seating with chairs, a chaise; refrigerator and microwave; would have preferred brighter overhead light; curtains did not block out all outdoor light; breakfast was sparse with only coffee and waffle maker; internet connection was good on laptop computer but spotty on mobile devices
- Shawn (6/5): - The staff was great and rooms were ok, but reasonable price
- Rab (8/5): - Owner was friendly and quick to respond to requests. But exterior of property needs renovation - looks old and worn.
- Kevin (8/5): - great and friendly staff.
- Kelly (10/5): Exceptional -
- Elwyn (10/5): - The property does not look well on the outside. The stairs are in need of repair. However, the room is great. I would stay there again.
- Christine (10/5): - My stay was great the only thing I would recommend is new towels. The towels are very dingy and old and worn out. Otherwise everything was good
- Joseph (9/5): Superb -
- Alyssa (4/5): - The property is pretty run down and very noisy. They also claimed that we couldn’t have a service dog in the room. Had to get management involved to resolve it despite showing paperwork proving it’s a service dog, not a pet.
- Troy (8/5): - Cost was appropriate for what was received. Downsides were that the breakfast was a bit subpar, offering only do it yourself waffles and gas station danishes on the first day. However the money saved on the efficiency of everything else at the hotel more than paid for the breakfast that we get elsewhere.
- Mark (5/5): Passable -
- Taha (5/5): Bad - Its clean and the location is good I made the booking for double beds, but the staff provided me with only one queen bed, since we are two friends I ended up sleeping at a different hotel while my friend stayed at gateway in. Overall I had to spend twice for getting another room. The other hotel I had was awful that was why I made the booking at gateway inn in the first place, but that ended up to be a mistake as I had to keep two rooms and pay a very high price for a room that has one bed. The practice of misleading me by the ad at booking.com and the hotel resulted in me paying alot while not solving my main issue
- Evedna (10/5): - The room was very clean & well cared for. The staff was friendly & helpful. It's just a small motel & on a busy street, so can't possibly be quiet. This is a nice, clean, affordable place to stay. I definitely recommend it.
- Lynnete (6/5): - Other residents were outside talking on speakerphone and had their televisions on until 2 am. Didn't seem there were quite hours and we really needed the sleep before our flight at 5 am out of Midway.
- Robert (10/5): - The couple that manage this establishment are wonderful, kind and accomadating.
- Graupner (6/5): Pleasant -
- Mary (10/5): a definite home away from home, I will always want to stay here while visiting . - The staff is very friendly, The rooms were kept and clean. A mostly smoke free property. Smoking outdoors only. Great parking on premises. A small refrigerator and microwave Located between a residential and commercial area, You can walk in a residential neighborhood and enjoy the well kept gardens and lawns of the locals. I felt safe. You can also walk to many restaurants and Cafe's . I enjoyed walking to Cork and Bean (Coffee and Breakfast and apparently wine, not on my agenda) Also in Walking Distance of Flapjacks (modern and spacious for breakfast). The Oaklawn Post Office is nearby and open late. You may want to drive there with larger items to mail. But also in walking distance. The property is easy to find in the dark, lit by green decorative lights trimming the office and along the buildings. Need more hangers in the closet..: )
- Meaghan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Josh (6/5): I'm just saying - It was a convenient location for the event we had to attend. The AC was broken and we didn't get anything taken off of our bill for the inconvenience, also the water in the shower was Luke warm at best.
