Guest Reviews
- felipehY4880ZG (10/5): Great place to disconnect - We had a wonderful stay at Puerta Azul. From the moment we arrived, the staff and property owner were warm, attentive and eager to make our visit comfortable.
We stayed at a beach view casita which was perfect for us. The size was great with a comfortable king size bed.
We had breakfast and dinner at the property. The food is made to order and very tasty.
My day always ended having a drink at the newly built deck which maybe it extra special with awesome sunset views.
We also arranged a boat trip via the hotel to Cayos Cocinos which is a must. Stunning place.
Overall, we had a great stay and would recommend this family run hotel to disconnect in Roatan.
- Cruiser14096 (10/5): Magical Memories - My husband and I (along with another very dear couple) just returned from the most wonderful stay at Puerta Azul, and I had to share what a fantastic experience it was. I truly value comfort, cleanliness, good service, and peaceful surroundings more than flashy extras — and this place exceeded every expectation.
From the moment we arrived, the staff treated us like treasured guests rather than just tourists. Every single person we encountered was warm, attentive, and genuinely kind. The service was impeccable without ever feeling stiff or overdone. Someone was always there when you needed something, yet the atmosphere remained calm and private.
The hotel itself was spotless and our sea view suite was beautifully maintained every day, the linens smelled fresh, and all of the common areas were immaculate. You could tell Talia, Antonio, and their stellar team take enormous pride in the property.
What I loved most was how relaxing everything felt. Roatán is already beautiful, of course, but this hotel created such a peaceful atmosphere and it was so easy to unwind without any real effort! Mornings with coffee overlooking the water, gentle island breezes, quiet evenings under the stars — it was exactly the kind of restorative getaway everyone needs and we were privileged to have.
And the food — my goodness. Absolutely out of this world fabulous. Fresh seafood, tropical fruits, perfectly prepared local dishes, and desserts I’m still dreaming about. We found ourselves looking forward to every meal as an event in itself. Don't even get me started on Rum o'clock!!
If you are looking for a large, noisy resort with crowds and nonstop activity, this may not be your place. But if you want charm, tranquility, exceptional hospitality, and incredible food in a beautiful island setting, I cannot recommend this boutique hotel highly enough. We left feeling rested, cared for, and already talking about when we can return.
- Monique (10/5): Beautiful, relaxing spot with a wonderful onsite restaurant and great service - Beautiful, quiet little spot on Roatan; great staff, great facilities. We especially loved the dock with comfy recliners and hammocks. The breeze helps with the heat and humidity. Great snorkelling out on the reef as well! That you couldn't swim right off the beach because the water looked sludgy.
- Fabian (10/5): Hidden diamond - I enjoyed the exclusivity- for me luxury means exclusivity. Quite a calm. It’s a hidden diamond. Everything was perfect.
- stephanietS4227KT (10/5): Fantastic, peaceful family getaway - Loved everything about Puerta Azul. The property is meticulously maintained, in a peaceful setting and in close proximity to a beautiful stretch of reef. My kids (9 & 12) loved staying here, especially the hours spent swimming off the dock. We stayed 2 weeks and it was hard to leave. Looking forward to our next visit!

- daveB8902XZ (10/5): A truly wonderful place to stay - An amazing place to be! I loved the cabins where we're could sit on the porch and see the wonderful species of Honduran plants. And frequently geckos crawling around. The cabins were immaculate. Someone showed up every morning to clean. Mostly when we were at the really good included breakfast. If you needed something you could just ask for it. We enjoyed all the meals we ate there. The chefs and the wait staff were great.
You could go on a boat for a snorkeling trip. We did that twice--the boat didn't just drop you off but you had a guide to point out things on the reefs you to you.
Most days we simply walked to the end of pier (through the blue door) and snorkeled from there. The reefs right there were wonderful: really great healthy coral and lots of different kinds of fish. Quiet, relaxing and adventurous.
The concierge was also great: in many places we stayed previously all they wanted to do was sell you something. She was both knowledgeable and helpful.
Because of the atmosphere of the staff, many of the other guests were friendly too.
We'll be back
- Francisco (10/5): Great place to stay in Roatán - Relaxing place, super friendly people, good food.
The beach area is super cool with its own reef, it was our favorite place to spend time.
The owners and staff are great. Nothing
You need to rent a car or vehicle to go out for dinner or lunch.
- allisonq257 (10/5): Tropical, authentic mix of adventure and chilling! - Another incredible week at Puerta Azul! My kids and I had the perfect combination of relaxation and adventure on our trip. The property is so gorgeous and laid back. My kids (ages 7-11) could enjoy time on the dock and in the water independently since the venue is safe and the water is shallow enough not to worry. The food was incredible. We had amazing chips and guac, the best island rice and steak. Breakfast is included which is a great perk especially with kids. The cabanas feel so tropical but also so clean and comfortable with a/c and a fan. We paddle boarded and swam on site and took a boat ride snorkeling which was a highlight. 10/10 recommend for an awesome and special family trip!
- Yves (10/5): I'd go back for sure, but next time for a longer stay at Puerta Azul! - The site is beautiful! Love the long dock and it's blue door! Lazing in the hammocks on the dock was great. Our room was a gorgeous and spacious private cottage, with one bedroom for our adult kids and the other for the parents.
- Q2321BYbethk (10/5): Puerta Azul = Portal to Magic - I arrived at Puerta Azul in shoulder-season (late Jan - mid-March, between rainy- and not-) and stayed for a total of 7 blissful weeks! (only interrupted by a gorgeous mountain rainforest adventure on the mainland). .
Whether tucking in for the excitement of a tropical storm over the Caribbean, or luxuriating in a gorgeous sunny day on the beach, with a few puffy clouds and a refreshing breeze, the blue door was a doorway to magic. Every day, when I passed through that door, just around sunrise, that was my mantra: "Let the magic begin." And it always did!
I felt so lucky to experience *both of the types of lodging that Puerta Azul offers: one of their 5 beachfront cabins, and one of their 4 garden (jungle!) casitas (which are equipped with a kitchen!)
Each had its own unique charm - but the unifying feature of everything about Puerta Azul is the thoughtfulness with which *everything* has been designed and executed - for natural beauty, for privacy, for comfort (the softest sheets in the history of the universe, for one small example...), for culinary delight (the whole red snapper was my favorite, though they offer options across the board, from vegan/vegetarian to steak), for help with transportation and recommendations around the island, for the wonderful ! 4-hr reef explorations in the resort's own (very comfortable) touring launch.
The staff are so warm and personable - it's clear that everyone, from the owners, Talia and Antonio, through the amazing manager Sasha, the brilliant kitchen and wait-staff, the hardworking groundskeepers/gardeners - even the night watchman - *everyone* really cares about their guests.
Puerta Azul's magic is in its quiet beauty. The sunrises and sunsets from the end of their dock over the Caribbean. Peaceful, incredible snorkeling, right off the dock, free from the hordes flooding the more well-known hubs of West End and West Bay. Whether I wanted to sunbathe, or read in the shade, there was always a hammock, a beach lounge, a sling-back chair available - all the comforts, none of the crowds. (Also, awesome margaritas!)
And yet it was super-easy to get everywhere I wanted, whether I was in the mood to mix it up a little, or just had some errands to do - someone was always at reception to help with recommendations, reservations, and transport.
If you ever get the chance to visit - do NOT hesitate! (it's actually even *better* than the website's gorgeous photos and videos suggest. Serious.)
- Jennifer (10/5): We felt like we were part of the family and our stay ended too soon - The staff were lovely and took such good care of us! We love the restaurant—the food while simple was super fresh and delicious—no need to go elsewhere for dinner. Snorkeling excursions were good and the local reef is fun—being able to go off the dock was nice.
- CodysLove2Travel (10/5): Beautiful, peaceful place that feels like home away from home. - Located in Sandy Bay which is 10 minutes to West End (in town) and 20 from West Bay (beautiful beaches next to larger resorts) with very few reasons to leave. Perfect if you want a quiet peaceful place to stay. This place feels like a home away from home. The staff is incredibly kind and welcoming and the long term stay visitors are just as friendly. I never thought I’d say this, but their Dock was Awesome! They provide assistance with fair priced cab services, and boat or snorkeling tours. The rooms have all the modern amenities you could want while still keeping a cozy feel. Wish we had more time here.
- Q2418VPnancym (10/5): Definitely 5 stars! * * * * * - We are so happy we found Puerta Azul!
From the moment we were picked up at the airport to the day we were dropped off, everything was seamless. The staff at Puerta Azul truly went above and beyond—more attentive and welcoming than many five-star hotels we’ve stayed in.
The snorkeling right off their dock was fantastic, and the boat tours took us to some incredible spots. If you love being in the water, this place is a dream.
The food was also outstanding—fresh, delicious, and beautifully prepared every day.
If you’re looking for a relaxed tropical escape with amazing snorkeling, wonderful food, and a staff that treats you like family, Puerta Azul is a gem. We can’t wait to come back!
- Dapyter (10/5): Puerta azul restaurant in sandy bay - 5min walk for the puerta azul restaurant in sandy bay. Food was delicious, the staff is very welcoming no taxi needed
- Underwatertraveler (10/5): Peace and tranquility in Roatan - We loved every minute of our President's Day Weekend getaway at Puerta Azul. The setting and staff were amazing. Everyone was friendly, helpful and accommodating. The food was delicious. We will be back without a doubt.
- Navigator18138204920 (10/5): Paradise - We had the most wonderful stay at Puerta Azul Boutique Hotel in Roatan. Besides the property being absolutely stunning, everyone who worked there was so welcoming. From the owners, to the kitchen staff, every single person made you feel like you were at home. The food was amazing, I miss the breakfasts. Hanging out on the dock, reading a good book, then jumping into the water for some snorkeling. It was paradise.
- tropicala498 (10/5): ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - Our stay at Puerta Azul was absolutely unforgettable! From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warm hospitality and genuine smiles from the staff — they went above and beyond to make our trip special. The rooms were beautifully designed, spotless, and incredibly comfortable, with breathtaking ocean views that made waking up each morning a joy.
- sjwarden (10/5): Wonderful vacation - After lengthy research, my wife and I visited Puerta Azul in Roatan in early January '26 because it isn't in the congested and busier "touristy" areas, and reviews were very positive. They weren't wrong. Although Puerta Azul is tucked in between adjacent properties, the lush, diverse and beautiful foliage serve as effective insulators. The staff, especially Sasha, Noel, Julie, Rose, Jackie, Tanisha and Yami were especially kind, and we quickly became friends. It seems to me that there is a genuine and kind nature to the people we met during our week-long trip. The owners Antonio and Talia were very welcoming, accommodating, informative and kind. The food at Puerta Azul, whether fish, chicken, steak, or vegetables(!) was without exception, excellent. Strategically placed fans in the dining area kept any wayward bugs away, and I only had to use repellent a couple times during our stay. Snorkeling off the end of their pier was very enjoyable with a large, healthy coral reef within swimming distance. A multitude of colorful reef fish were abundant. We went on the 4 hour North Shore snorkeling trip. I felt this was a bit pricey but the reef areas we swam on were beautiful, and the rum punch and snacks on the way back was a nice touch. We also went on the half day island tour, which was enlightening and pleasant, and one of the few times I chose to wear sandals. I think my mind incorrectly filled in the blanks when I thought the rum and chocolate factories meant the production facilities. Instead we visited a rum store and a chocolate store, where we could purchase products they make, not what I consider a factory, but still ok. The Mayan Eden jungle tour was worthwhile. Confession, I don't really like to see animals in cages, but I didn't come away from this visit feeling sorry for the diverse assortment of tropical animals there. They appeared healthy and well cared for. We also visited West End Village, which to me was more appealing than West Bay. There we saw plenty of restaurants, offering both local foods (the baleadas are very good) and other South American fare, as well as decent souvenir shops. Puerta Azul is a solid "10".
- agnieszkatX1527QV (10/5): Outstanding service, delicious food, picturesque garden and a caring owner - We stayed at Boutique Hotel Puerta Azul in November and would definitely recommend this place. We received outstanding service throughout our stay. The hotel was clean, well maintained, and set in a picturesque garden right by the beach, with a long pier leading to the coral reef.
The hotel is located in a calm area, away from the lively, crowded, and noisy tourist spots. We personally didn’t spend much time on the hotel’s beach, as we were busy diving during the day, but we did enjoy using the SUP and kayak, which are free to rent from the hotel.
The food was delicious, and we will truly miss everyone from the staff. The owner is a fantastic person who genuinely cares about his guests. We had some nice conversations with him.
It’s a great place for those who want to stay away from the crowds and truly relax, or for those who rent a car and occasionally go to the center for more options, then return to unwind in the evening and enjoy the peaceful mornings. You really feel close to nature here.
There is also a local bus service nearby, although we didn’t try it, and a small shop within a short walking distance. The hotel guests are not here by coincidence - they choose this place deliberately, which also makes it a wonderful place to meet interesting people.
- Antoni (10/5): Outstanding service, picturesque garden, delicious food, and a caring owner. - Everything.

- Miroslaw (8/5): - This is a small resort with very nice, modern and clean bungalows. Rooms are spacious, cleaning staff always on time. Food (especially fish and lobsters) and restaurant staff are amazing. There is very easy access to the water from new jetty. Good for snorkeling even when the reef is about 150 meters away (the area next to jetty is grass only with very few rock/small corals formations). You can see some of tropical fish, lobsters, squids without to be forced to swim to the riff edge. You can get kayaks and SUP for free. Great sunset. Unfortunately there is lot of noise from the neighbors especially left side (facing the sea). Mowing the grass with petrol grass mower takes hours. There is also use of saw and grinder. I know that this is not hotel’s fault but it disturbed us the great time we spent there.
- Tim (10/5): - We loved our stay at Puerta Azul.
The service was beyond excepcional, the staff was always cheerful, helpful and friendly.
The location is spectacular with a house reef and lagoon for fantastic snorkeling. It was always quite and pleasant. The dock going out into the lagoon is the perfect place to read a book and enjoy sunsets.
The tropical gardens are lush and colorful.
The restaurant had great seafood. Everything was always fresh and prepared from scratch.
The hotel is close enough to West End to be convenient, far enough to escape the busy side of Roatan.
Diving with Sandy Bay divers was perfect.
The owner made us feel like we are at home.
We hope to be back soon.
- hochstaj (10/5): Puerta Azul —> Amazing! - Puerta Azul is fabulous! We had a terrific stay over the Christmas holiday. We traveled as a family with our 15, 18 and 20 year old daughters who all like a combination of adventure and relaxation. Puerta Azul was the perfect setting for our family.
Talia, the owner, was fantastic. She totally got our family vibe right away and booked great activities (snorkel tour, swimming with dolphins, ATV, Mangrove tours, beach day in West Bay, etc.) and also several fantastic dinner reservations (La Cevicheria, Stowaway, Luna Muna and of course the delicious restaurant at Puerta Azul). We loved the tranquility of Puerta Azul (beautiful, quiet, rejuvenating) as a home base as we explored the entire Island over our 6 day stay.
We did spend one entire day at the beach in West Bay and initially thought that maybe we should have stayed there a couple nights. But all five of us quickly determined that the over-crowded beaches and the constant commotion made us feel much better about our decision to spend our entire stay at Puerta Azul.
Before departure from the States, we were worried about two things: rain and mosquitoes. While it did rain on and off for a couple days, we had mostly sunshine for the majority of our trip. Maybe we got lucky or maybe the rainy season is not so bad. Even when it rained, we continued on with our activities and it never slowed us down. We were smart about using the bug spray. The girls got a few bites wearing bikinis, etc. but my wife and I came home with just one or two bites each. Compared to other Central American vacations (Belize, Costa Rica, etc), Roatan seemed much better with the bites (or again, maybe we got lucky).
Ultimately, we loved Roatan and we loved Puerta Azul. The high rating (4.9 at this writing) is absolutely spot on. Can’t thank the staff enough for making our stay wonderful. A special shout out to Sasha - thanks for helping organize our last few days and sending a taxi to the airport at the last minute with a pair of missing AirPods, Kitchen staff - your food is amazing, we will miss our morning breakfast, and Noel - your smoothies and mixed cocktails were spectacular, especially the Coconut Margarita you created for me on our last evening!
We hope to celebrate the holidays with all of you again!
- CatR727 (10/5): Quiet, gorgeous, relaxing - amazing! - Wonderful stay in December 2025. Rooms were spacious, clean, and well organized. Bathroom shower was beautiful and had excellent water pressure. The location is stunning - gorgeous private beach with access to all kinds of fun activities like paddle boarding, snorkeling, and floaties. We would stay here again in a heartbeat. The staff was so kind and accommodating - we felt so well taken care of. Thank you for a wonderful stay!
- Michael (10/5): Amazing property with great food! -
- L3432YCroym (10/5): Puerta Azul is a wonderful choice - Puerta Azul is a wonderful property in a beautiful location with exceptional customer service. You're near the West End for dinners and fun but the property is the true gem. The casitas are charming and well-provided for, and the onsite kitchen and bar serves delicious food and quality drinks. You've got your own beach and dock to swim from, and kayaks onsite. 10/10 experience.
- M1978NPnancyl (10/5): Amazing holiday stay. - We had a wonderful week at Puerta Azul Boutique hotel. The food was amazing and prepared by some awesome women. Our room was cleaned on a daily basis and there is a boat available for snorkeling, fishing, and sunset tours. I would definitely return to Roatan and stay at this site.
- Happiness06155032563 (10/5): The most amazing place to stay - What an unbelievably dreamy experience it is to stay at Puerto Azul. Having a home in Utila we used to occasionally have to overnight in Roatan, which we tried to avoid like the plague. Since we discovered Purta Azul we try and plan on it.
- DaveP705 (10/5): Top notch experience in Roatan - Booked a 2 tank dive charter (Blue Reef Explorers) and beach experience through Puerto Azul in Honduras during a recent cruise. One of the best experiences with a charter operator and resort. The facilities were wonderful and the staff were even better. Our crew (Junior, Edison and Eva) were the best. We also appreciated the transportation provided - Leo was a great driver and tour guide in his own right. Only downside is that we didn't get to spend more time but at least we have something to look forward to when we come back.
- Marcel (10/5): Wir kommen wieder - Tägliches Frühstück war super.
Sehr familiärs Umfeld.
Personal war sehr hilfsbereit.
Schnorcheln in unmittelbarer Nähe. Schönes koralllen Riff. Der Kaffe könnte besser sein.
- lorinb171 (10/5): Private, close to everything, safe and awesome! - Great place to stay. The staff is incredibly kind and attentive. It was a very relaxing and private experience. I would definitely go back. You basically have the beach to yourself and go see some amazing snorkeling and diving right off your dock.
- moniquemP1780IF (10/5): Total Zen - This was my first visit to Sandy Bay, I've been to Roatan several times, usually staying in west Bay. I was looking for a more relaxed vibe and thats exactly what I received. The rooms are so modern and clean with an amazing ocean front view.
I would like to see more treatment to repell mosquitoes and sand flies for my next visit. The bug spray i packed, wasn't enough to keep the bugs away.
- Michelle (10/5): Had a Fabulous Stay and felt welcomed like family!!! - This property is beautifully maintained with wonderful staff, delicious food, and lovely rooms. The location is great with a rental car. Makes it super easy to go between West End and West Bay. I am happy to return over and over!! Absolutely nothing.
- CarolSLC (10/5): Serene Garden Retreat - Our beachfront cabana was perfect. I spent much of my time in the hammock on the porch. The beach was very nice - lots of chairs and hammocks. We snorkeled off the end of the dock. The reef is a short swim away - you can go left (to Spooky Channel) or right. The dock also has hammocks. There is a common eating area set in a beautiful garden setting with scattered tables. Breakfast is complimentary and changes each day. Lunch and dinner are offered at a reasonable price and very worth it - the chef is amazing. You don’t notice other properties when you’re at the resort. They’ve done a fabulous job with the landscaping to make you feel like you’re within a botanical garden. The service is wonderful - they learn your preferences very quickly. Overall it was a fantastic getaway and highly recommended.
- scottn949 (10/5): Perfect beachfront place - The rooms are immaculately kept modern, amazing staff, everything I wanted is here. It started with letting Danielle at the front office book my excursions. I did the Half Day to West End, which includes Rum factory and also Chocolate factory. A later trip was Full Day to Camp Bay, one of the best beaches I've seen, same trip was Seafood soup in Punta Gorda, and the mangrove boat ride. Back at Puerta Azul, there's more snorkeling from their beach. Now for Rosa in the kitchen, she is an amazing chef, just let her cook you something and enjoy on their outdoor jungle patio.
- Diogo Costa (10/5): Puerta Azul hotel altamente recomendável para quem quer passar uns dias tranquilos e confortáveis. - Tudo a exceder largamente as expectativas.
- Erica Emanuella (10/5): - Beautiful hotel. Very nice staff. Me and my kids loved it.
- marc aureli (8/5): -
- Lauren (10/5): - This property was STUNNING. It’s like if White Lotus met Couples’ Retreat- just top tier luxury and a staff that takes care of every want and need.
- Britni Anne (10/5): - We had the most wonderful, comfortable stay at Puerta Azul. We fully intend to go back next year!
- Megan (10/5): - Staying at Puerta Azul was truly like stepping into a private oasis. From the moment we arrived, the experience was nothing short of magical. The staff were absolutely amazing—warm, attentive, and always ready to help. They made booking excursions effortless, giving us the chance to explore the island without any stress.
The private villas were immaculately clean and beautifully designed, offering the perfect blend of comfort and tranquility. It felt like our own secluded retreat nestled in paradise.
The food? Phenomenal. Every meal was fresh, flavorful, and artfully prepared—it genuinely felt like dining in a high-end, beachside sanctuary.
The entire island was stunning, and the people were just as beautiful—kind, welcoming, and full of heart. I can’t say enough good things about this place. We’re already dreaming about our return. Puerta Azul is the kind of destination you never forget. Highly recommend!
Thank you ALL for your hospitality
- Quaron (10/5): - I loved this property i will be back it was so clean and beautiful scenery ! Just make sure you have bug spray the mosquitos will a have good feast lol but the staff is so welcoming and they will help you with anything that you need.
- Krystal (10/5): - Everything about this hotel was amazing. From the welcome drink to the food. Everyone was super nice and friendly.
- sararE7793ZL (10/5): Dreaming vacation - We recently spent 7 days at Puerta Azul, and it was truly a memorable experience.
The staff is amazing, always friendly and available. The food was absolutely delicious. We especially loved the location, nestled in lush greenery right by the ocean, and the private dock that provided easy access for incredible snorkeling near the reef.
Watching the sunset from the hammock on the dock palapas was an absolute dream.
Thank you, Puerta Azul, and your wonderful staff, for making our vacation such a fantastic experience.
- Andrew (8/5): - Lovely big rooms with nicely designed breakfast and bar area. Besides the relaxing atmosphere and attentive staff, a key highlight is easy access to the reef for snorkelling. Overall, highly recommended for a peaceful escape. Thing that could be improved? Perhaps, more variety with breakfast and improved coffee.
- Jose (10/5): - Highly recommend this property, I came to relax, unwind and seek adventure and found it all here.
- allisonq257 (10/5): Gorgeous and chill with a local vibe - Just returned from another incredible visit to Puerta Azul - this time solo. The weather was absolutely perfect and the property was as vibrant in color and as gorgeous as I recalled. I had the fish and rice dinner which was INCREDIBLE and I always love the local-inspired breakfast (which is included). The property feels really private and chill but there’s also a community feel among the staff and other guests so it’s easy to engage if you’re up for it. Everything just feels so laid back with an uplifting vibe. I just love this spot and can’t wait to return.
- Andrea (10/5): - This was the perfect bed and breakfast. We stayed in cabin 2, beach front and loved everything about it. It was always clean, every worker was extremely friendly and helpful. the food was fantastic (we are such picky eaters and they always accommodated our requests).
10/10 recommend staying here!
- rleggs (10/5): Wonderful stay at Puerta Azul! - We had a wonderful stay at Puerta Azul. Family of 4,. It was a last minute booking and were so glad there was availability for 2 rooms. We had the garden casitas. Talia/ Antonio are great hosts/ owners. They catered to all our needs from airport transfers, arranging tours, etc. We did the all inclusive so we are primarily here. The four was delicious..fish dishes were amazing ( if I had one minor quibble- it would've been great to have a variety of menu options on each day for each neal6 ; but I understand the difficulty in doing that with limited staff) nonetheless, food was delicious.
Toons are so quaint, cozy, had ac/fans, showers were great. This is a gen if you don't want to stay in a crowded hotel and fighting for beach space. And the " Blue Door" was just too cute and creative. Thx Talia/ Antonio!
- Joshua (10/5): - The staff at this property are all great! They all go above and beyond to make your stay comfortable. Food is amazing!!
A+
- Morgan Noelle (10/5): - As soon as we drove onto Puerta Azul, I knew we were in paradise. Talia and Antonio pay such close attention to detail, this a truly amazing experience. From the cozy garden villas tucked into a tropical garden oasis, to the delicious daily breakfast of fresh fruit and local quizine. The clear turquoise and emerald waters are where we spent most of our time. The Palupa was a great retreat for our whole family. This B&B is right on the Mesoamerican barrier reef so access to it was easy. This place is absolutely incredible. I will be back!
- Jeremy (10/5): - Such an amazing experience here. The staff was on point.
Our accommodations were more than satisfactory!
We will definitely stay at Puerta Azul when we come back.
A little bit of solitude, but close enough to everything we wanted to experience!!
Thank you!!
- JRroatantours (10/5): Exceptional Hospitality, Cuisine, and Ocean Views - From the very beginning of our stay, the resort and restaurant greeted us with genuine warmth and attentive service. The staff went above and beyond to accommodate our needs, making sure we felt comfortable at every moment. Every meal was extraordinary—a true showcase of the chef’s talent and artistry. What made the visit truly unforgettable was the spectacular view: the vast, serene ocean stretching endlessly before us, creating a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. This remarkable spot brings together gourmet dining and a stunning seaside setting, and I would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking for a truly special escape.
- Claus (10/5): - Really really nice.
- Jill (10/5): - We had a wonderful girls trip! Loved the staff and the owners were extremely friendly and helpful.
We will be back!
- Rashelle (8/5): - Overall everything was very good. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The property was also very clean
- Climber794233 (10/5): An hidden gem!! - Puerta Azul is truly a hidden gem! This peaceful property offers the perfect quiet escape, yet it's conveniently located just a 10 minute drive to West End and 20 minutes to West Bay. The property itself is stunning, and the staff makes the experience even more special. Everyone is warm, welcoming, and always ready to accommodate your needs.
A heartfelt thank you to Antonio, Sasha, Julie, Jackie, and the entire team for their outstanding service. Both breakfast and dinner were consistently delicious and thoughtfully prepared.
Thank you for making our Anniversary so memorable, we would absolutely return!
- Vanessa (8/5): - Boom here - you’ll enjoy your stay!
We stayed eight nights at Puerta Azul. Overall we had a lovely time. Some of the things we appreciated: the grounds were clean and tropical (with access to fresh organic mangoes!), it is right off the sandy beach (there’s a lot of turtle grass but we still saw starfish, lionfish, a nurse shark, box fish, etc.), it has a lovely photo op with the blue door (do it foe the gram!), there is a a neighborhood cat who came around and eased our being away from our fur babies (we named her Azulita), breakfast was served daily and was delicious, the neighbors are lovely (in fact, a flyfishing guide my husband charted with, lives literally next-door and had us over for dinner days after my husband finished his excursion), they have free kayaks you can take out for the day (my husband and I took one out to snorkel the reef and kayak all the way down to Anthony’s key - try it! it was such a good day!), and it’s not a far drive from West End or West Bay Beach.
Things we were not expecting: there’s no door on the toilet (bring air freshener), the flyfishing was a little over advertised (maybe it was the weather??), the reef was a little farther than advertised as well (the kayaks help and/or worth it to get a guide to take you around to snorkel spots).
Overall we would absolutely 100% stay here again - we just learned some things to pass along/for next time (but none were deal breakers).
- Stacia R (10/5): - Puerta Azul is truly a hidden gem!
- Tessa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nicole (10/5): - I stayed at 3 different hotels while in Roatan, and this was the best. Beautiful, clean, peaceful place with nice staff. There was also a sweet kitty that hung out with me on my porch every day I was there. The only drawback about this place is it is not walkable to anything so I kind of felt stuck there. If you are ok with taking taxis everywhere or you have your own transportation, I recommend this place.
- jylynneb (10/5): Best Boutique Hotel - If you’re looking for an amazing boutique hotel this is the place! Went with a group of girlfriends and this was the best place and location. Very secluded beautiful hotel in Roatan. Rooms were clean, food was delicious, and all the staff were super friendly and helpful with booking activities. The water is so warm and you can snorkel right off the dock. Easy to get around the island to go out as well they helped with that also. I will be back!
- Steven (10/5): - The service and food was wonderful. The staff was so helpful and the owners had great suggestions for restaurants while the restaurant was closed on Sunday. They set us up with a local dive shop that picked us up every morning at the property. The snorkeling was amazing and right off the dock. We had such a wonderful vacation here and would return again.
- 302kevinl (10/5): Quiet, peaceful and a great place to recharge and refresh. - Owners Talia and Antonio have created a relaxing oasis for its visitors. Granted having no TV, pool or hot tub was a complete shock to my system, but we are leaving feeling great and grateful that we stayed here.
Every morning they offer a different breakfast with fresh ingredients along with some great coffee. Lunch and dinners are cooked fresh by Rose, who I would say is probably one of the best chefs on the island. It is cooked to order, so it takes a little time and you have to place your dinner order before six. The churrasco steak, shrimp tacos and curry and fried red snapper were outstanding.
We stayed in oceanfront room #1 just steps from the beach. It was great having a whole building to ourselves. The room was great, though we did struggle with the shower only seeming to have two temperatures, cold and molten lava.
Danielle and Sasha at the front desk were super helpful, taking our meal orders and recommending restaurants, places and drivers when we wanted to go offsite.
Now you can hail a cab for about $5 each way or allow cousins Lionardo, Wilson and Fernando take you around. It costs between $20-$30 round trip, but they were always on time and usually early.
You can rent snorkel gear for $10 and go right off of the pier. I would recommend going in a kayak first to pinpoint where to snorkel. We also did their 4-hour snorkeling tour which was awesome.
Definitely a great place to recharge from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
- KEVIN (10/5): Peaceful and quite - Talia and Antonio have created a great place to escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Now they don’t have a pool, hot tub or TV’s, which was an initial shock to my system, but we left feeling refreshed and renewed.
We were in oceanfront room #1, which was steps from the water. It was nice being that close and having our own building.
Every morning they serve a complimentary breakfast that changes from day to day, but was always very good.
Their Chef Rose was probably as good as any chef on the island. She makes everything on the spot and for dinner you have to place your order before 6. The shrimp tacos, fried and curry red snapper and churrasco steak were out of this world! Never had a juicier steak in my life. Everything is super fresh.
Danielle and Sasha at the front desk were excellent at getting our meal orders, recommending places offsite and setting up drivers.
Now you can hail a taxi that only costs about $5 or have D&S set up the pick up service for $20-$30. The guys they use are cousins Lionardo, Wilson & Fernando. These 3 were always on time or early.
You can rent snorkel gear for $10 a week and go right off of the pier. They also offer paddle boarding and kayaking at no charge.
We did do the 4 hour snorkeling tour they offer and that was excellent! To top it all off, the neighbors have a calico kitten that is always around and super sweet.
All in all, it’s a great place to unplug, unwind and refresh for a week.
- Margaret (10/5): - Absolutely amazing! The staff and owners were all amazing. They were able to help us book anything from a ride into town to a full day excursion. The food was some of the best we had on the island. We were able to snorkel, right of the dock and see some amazing things. Especially the Spooky Channel. Ihighly recommend the massage! We will definitely be back!!! Thank you for an amazing trip!
- PayRaffa (10/5): Incredible Stay – Everything Was Taken Care Of - Puerta Azul made our girls’ trip to Roatán absolutely effortless. We were a group of six, and Talia, Antonio, and their team planned every detail of our four-day stay with care and precision. From the moment we arrived, we didn’t have to think about a thing — everything was handled.
They created a full itinerary for us, including a private boat day with snorkeling (we swam with nurse sharks!), a separate scuba diving trip, rooftop sunset happy hours, massages and a sound bath on-site, and all of our dinner reservations. Transportation was organized throughout the trip, and even when one of us needed to visit a doctor, Talia personally drove us to the clinic and picked us up.
The hotel itself is peaceful and beautifully maintained, with a private dock and quiet beach — far enough from the busy areas to relax, but still just a 10-minute drive to West Bay or West End. Breakfast was included each morning and always hit the spot. The housekeeping and kitchen staff were welcoming and professional.
What really stood out is how connected and respected Talia is on the island. Everywhere we went, people knew her — and it made everything run smoothly.
If you're looking for a place that’s well-run, well-located, and truly stress-free, I can't recommend Puerta Azul enough. We left completely relaxed and already talking about when we’ll be back.
- Bethany (10/5): - Incredible place...second time staying here...will go again and again!
- terbotmm (10/5): Puerta Azul- no need to go anywhere else in Roatan - This was our second stay at Puerta Azul and we are so glad we returned-it’s like coming home. Talia and Antonio have transformed this lush beautiful beachfront in Sandy Bay into a peaceful haven where you feel like family and where every blue door is open to bliss. You can choose an individual bungalow or casita. The rooms are cozy, impeccably decorated, absolutely spotless (cleaned every day), have super comfy beds, good internet and feel brand new. Fluffy towels, quiet AC and top-of-the-line amenities are all provided. We’ve stayed at both the ocean view king room (four years ago) and most recently in one of the cute casitas which are equipped for cooking your own meals. There’s happy hour 4-6 on-site with your favorite foo-foo island cocktails and beer. We took our drinks to the end of the dock to catch the amazing sunsets. A delicious breakfast is included and lunch and dinner specialties are home cooked to order - huge portions and brought to your table under a lovely canopy of trees. The food is absolutely fantastic and much better than the touristy (and noisy) spots in West End / West Bay. Everything you need to have an amazing time in the water is all there. The best snorkeling on a protected reef is right off the dock, and ocean floaties, kayaks and paddle boards are provided free. You can easily walk both sides of the beach. They will setup any trips you wish to take, but we didn’t do any as everything was right there for our day- kayak, snorkel, walk, snorkel, rum, rinse, repeat. The staff are just amazing. WhetheIMG_1635.jpegr you are a couple or family, we highly recommend Puerta Azul for experiencing the beauty and serenity of Roatan that will not break the bank. The motto in the company that I had worked for was “it’s all about the people” and that is what makes Puerta Azul so wonderful. Thank you Talia, Antonio, Daniel and Sasha and all the staff for making our five days at Puerta Azul so special.
- Steve (10/5): - We really enjoyed our stay at Puerta Azul. The cottages are nestled into to tropical foliage which felt nicely secluded. The cottages are quaint and very clean. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We were connected with a driver who took us to various places on the island. When we were not out and about we relaxed on the beach or floated off the dock. Highly recommend staying here.
- Jodey (10/5): - It was quiet, safe, and the food was excellent.
- Resort55281923614 (10/5): Best Holiday Ever - We just finished our favourite holiday at Puerta Azul. The hotel is such a quiet and relaxing location. It was such a luxury to be able to snorkel straight from the dock. We have snorkeled multiple locations in the Great Barrier Reef and were amazed each time we went out how healthy the Mesoamerican Reef is, and right there off the dock! The food was delicious. We saw no reason to go anywhere else to eat. Staff were so friendly and professional. We even cancelled tours to spend more time relaxing and snorkeling at Puerta Azul.
Take advantage of the snorkel packages offered right there. Addison is an excellent captain and guide, and they are well worth it. I also want to add that next door to the hotel, on the left on the beach, is a local Honduran artist who lives in the house set back in the trees. I highly recommend visiting Shanna for her beautiful art. She even customized a piece for us to take home.
Overall, 6/5 stars.
- diana (10/5): - Had a wonderful 1 week stay in Casa Mono AKA #6. It is very quiet and chill. If you want crowds and chaos, stay in the west end/west bay.
- Yudania Salas (8/5): - The room is very near the beach, they change our towels, and bed sheets every day . Good air condition. Very quiet area except during nights, there are dogs barking at night that waked up several times.
- DakotaTraveler1 (10/5): A perfect relaxing vacation - We stayed at Puerta Azul for a week in March 2025 and it was amazing! The location is ideal if you are looking for a tranquil spot without a crowded beach. We were able to snorkel to incredible reefs by swimming a short distance from the end of the dock! In addition, we were able to book snorkel excursions from the front desk to visit other reefs around the island and those excursions started right from the dock. We stayed in a cabana that was literally 20 feet from the beach, making everything so accessible. The accommodations are first class. Everything was nicely decorated and kept clean. Our bed was very comfortable and the AC in the room kept temperatures perfect for sleeping. We had a small deck with chairs and a hammock for lounging, but we found even better hammocks at the end of the 400 foot dock, where we could lounge while listening to the ocean and enjoying a comfortable breeze. We ate most of our meals at the restaurant at Puerta Azul and the food was simple yet very delicious. We enjoyed local seafood as well as amazing Italian dishes! When we wanted to explore other parts of the island it was easy to schedule a car to take us places or we simply walked to the main road and caught a collectivo for only a couple dollars. While Puerta Azul is located in quiet Sandy Bay, it only takes about 15 minutes by car to get to the more crowded areas of West End and West Bay. If you want to enjoy the beauty of Roatan's famous reef without the noise and crowds of other parts of the island, I highly recommend booking a stay at Puerta Azul.
- Julie Calle (10/5): - Puerta Azul is a unique small and quiet hotel. The staff is amazing and very helpful. The food is delicious and it is prepared fresh every day. Our room was number 4 very close to the beach and was very clean and beautiful. The owners and all their staff specially Julie are very nice and courteous. My husband and I had an incredible stay in this charming hotel and we will hope to come back next year.
- Amy (9/5): A fantastic boutique hotel for a quick jaunt to Roatán! - The free breakfast was wonderful! The ladies in the kitchen accommodated all needs, and it was such a great bonus to the stay.
- Q2004UIallisonb (10/5): Awesome family-friendly experience ! - I’m a repeat guest but I brought my kids for the first time (they’re 10, 8 and 6).. they LOVED IT! The property and activities are really family-friendly. My kids were able to roam around independently and both the water on the property and the water where we snorkeled were really shallow so I never had to worry. My kids loved the food, boat ride, snorkeling, swimming and roaming the property freely. Also the kitchen can make amazing chocolate chip pancakes and Shirley temples :-) I will definitely be bringing my kids back and would recommend as a family destination. Breakfast is included which is such a win with kids. We stayed in a garden villa that had a kitchenette - which is really helpful if traveling as a family. Highly recommend !!!
- Ann (10/5): - It’s a hidden gem! We’ll be back!
- Shely (9/5): Superb - Great stuff and service. Very good food !! Rooms were cleaned and comfortable A bit far from everything- not the best location. No lobby.
- Vida (10/5): - Lovely quiet property, friendly staff and good food.
- madqui (10/5): Exceptional boutique hotel experience! - Puerta Azul is exceptional in every way! It is beautifully designed and spotless. Talia, Daniella, Sasha, and all the staff provide amazing service and advice on excursions. The food is excellent! The beach is lovely and quiet, and the snorkelling from it was great! We also enjoyed the kayaks and a snorkelling excursion. We have great memories from Puerta Azul and would definitely return!
- Krissi (10/5): Exceptional - This was our second stay at Puerta Azul. We've stayed in both the beachfront and garden cabins, and have been pleased with both locations. We love snorkeling off the dock and all the way out to Spooky Channel. Julie's perfect margaritas and Rose's delicious homemade meals (try her curry snapper fillet) keep us coming back. Nada.
- Elizabeth (10/5): - Puerta Azul is a quaint boutique style hotel with private little cabins. They have a nice restaurant and provide breakfast every morning. Everyone who works there is super nice and friendly. Location is quiet and away from the crowds of the West End. If you want to go anywhere, they provide transportation. The best part was snorkeling right off the dock. The reef was full of coral and fish. They also had free paddle boards and kayaks and you can rent snorkel equipment for $10 for the whole week. I will be back!
- wesh429 (10/5): Highly recommend Puerta Azul - I had a great time staying at Puerta Azul. The facilities were really nice, all the staff were wonderful, the food great, and the location was exactly what I was hoping for. I most appreciated being able to snorkel at the reef not far from the dock as well as spooky channel which was a 6 minute paddle in one of the kayaks provided by Puerta Azul. I would definitely stay there again.
- Jean (10/5): - Skip
- Nina (10/5): - Beautiful property with lots of amenities.
- SHELLEY (10/5): - Great stay! Very private and relaxing but close to everything you need. The restaurant and bar on sight was an added bonus. Highly recommend. The rooms are quiet and you will sleep well. Do not hesitate.
- Roman Anton (10/5): - Es hatte leider viele Mücken (keine Moskitonetze) und viele Sandfliegen (leider keine Info vom Hotel) und die Klimaanlage ist sehr laut.
- Charlotte Eileen Oonagh (8/5): - The food was excellent. Every dinner we had on-site was truly delicious and tasted like home cooking (which was a big attraction for us). The property is lovely, and the immediate beach is great. Unfortunately our stay was hindered by an incredible amount of rain which definitely impacted the experience. The room was tasteful and extremely clean if a tiny bit sparse - no tv, no chairs, just beds, and not enough towel hooks. The air conditioner didn't really work so everything was constantly damp because of the rain/humidity and zero air flow. It might not be like that all the time. Our porch looked directly at another building, which also wouldn't have been an issue if we didn't need the shelter in order to sit outside. If the weather had been perfect, we wouldn't have had to spend so much time in our room and probably wouldn't have minded any of these things. I'm sure the property is entirely delightful during a sunnier week. The only other thing to note is that it's not a super walkable area. If you want to go for slightly bigger walks, I would opt to stay in/around West End.
- Ryan (10/5): - Beautiful property, friendly staff, good fiod
- David (10/5): - Very relaxing. No need to leave the property, everything you need is right there.
- Marisol (10/5): Door to Heaven - Amazing room with its own little kitchenette and entrance. The view from the little beach is amazing. It’s about 12 minutes from West Bay where the beach is located.
- ellendA2387ES (10/5): Paradise - Puerta Azul is an oasis. It really does feel like you're in your own little world. The rooms are stunning, as is the beach. The staff are warm and thoughtful. I had an ear infection during my stay and Danielle (I thiiiink this was her name, I apologize if wrong!) went as far as getting ear drops delivered from a local pharmacy. The food at the restaurant is the best I had my whole trip. I wish I could eat there for every meal.
I was able to see amazing wildlife right off the dock and happily joined a boat outing on the facility's boat. Nap, swim, eat, nap, snorkel, repeat.
My only notes; the location is not close to town - PA is happy to organize taxis so it is definitely easy to get places, but good to know in terms of planning. The restaurant isn't open on Sunday evenings, be sure to plan ahead with somewhere else to go. None of these are dealbreakers, certainly! Finally, definitely pack bug spray.
I highly recommend Puerta Azul for a relaxing, secluded vacation.
- X3993FFjessicat (10/5): A Magical Paradise - Perfect for Relaxation - I had the most incredible stay at Puerta Azul! The hotel is absolutely beautiful, with stunning rooms facing the ocean and breathtaking views. The vibe is peaceful and relaxing, making it the perfect place to unwind and recharge.
Talia and Antonio, the lovely owners, make you feel right at home with their warm and welcoming energy. The staff is incredibly friendly and attentive, ensuring that every detail of your stay is perfect.
This place truly feels magical — an oasis where you can disconnect, enjoy nature, and create unforgettable memories. I can’t wait to come back!
