Guest Reviews
- Steven (10/5): - It’s been many years since we stayed at the Brewers - although all was good the property is in need of an update - lots of peeling and damaged paint
- Susan (6/5): - The stay was fine. room pleasant and clean also easy to park. I thought the bathroom needed upgrading to meet the same standard as the bedroom.
- GAGANBIR (10/5): - Very nice service and overall vibe.
- Jackie (10/5): - Lovely hotel with amazing staff. The breakfast was delicious. The room was comfortable and clean. Paring to the rear of the hotel which was a bonus..
- Wendy (8/5): Lovely - The room was lovely although a little dated. The bed was quite hard so didn't sleep very well. Thought there would have been some personal touches, i.e biscuits, facial tissues, water. Food was really nice, staff were very attentive and service was good.
- Michael (10/5): two brewers - good food friendly service comfortable room been many times and definitely will be going again.
- Robert (10/5): - Very nice area, room was nice and spacious, food was lovely.
- Tiffany (10/5): - Loved every minute of my stay! Everyone was so polite. My room was great and the Inn is absolutely stunning. Loved it all! Food and drinks were good.
- Beverley (10/5): - The rooms were clean, comfortable and had everything we needed for our stay.
The onsite pub was lovely, quiet, great food options. All the staff were fantastic very friendly. I would definitely stay again.
Due to the nature of the building the water can be hit and miss and take a while to get right. No real issue at all though.
- Andrew (10/5): - Nice and clean great staff very helpful and professional
- Geoffrey (4/5): - Very dated rooms and management not very friendly I arrived at around 830 went to the bar and asked about food at 905 to be told the kitchen closed at 9 so my dinner was a packet of crisps
- Suzanne (8/5): Good for short stay - Hotel room was a good size and comfortable. It had everything you would need for a short stay. It did specify there was a playground as an amenity, but we asked and there wasn't, only a field across the road. Food was good and staff were friendly and helpful.
- Richard (8/5): - very friendly staff. Restaurant was very tasty and th staff was amazing
- Chris (10/5): Great pub in lovely setting - Lovely setting and really friendly staff. Room was remarkably big for a pub.
Evening meal, especially the steak pie was fantastic.
- Emily (10/5): - Perfect English Inn for my family. Tasty dinner and breakfast options, including vegetarian choices.
- Samuel (8/5): The staff make it - Great location and very lovely and helpful staff. The rooms were standard, but bathrooms very tired and in need of refresh (albeit basically functional).
- Rosie (8/5): - Great atmosphere and fabulous helpful staff
- christopher (10/5): Lovely birthday stay. - We had a lovely stay for my 40th Birthday at Two Brewers before our day at Warner Bros. Studio Tour. Although the furniture and decor was a tad dated it only added to the charm for us.
We had a family room and the sofa bed was set-up and ready for when we arrived. We enjoyed a couple of drinks and a lovely meal in the pub. The room was set away from the pub and meant that we all had a comfortable and peaceful sleep.
We had the continental breakfast which was more than enough to set us up for the day and only cost £6.99 per person including drinks.
The staff were all friendly and helpful.
- Tracy (10/5): - Very nice and beautiful place to stay. We loved it.
- Paul (8/5): Nice place close to London by train - Great place to stay, rooms a little dated,
Nice food and drink
- Thomas (10/5): - A comfortable hotel / pub and restaurant that is conveniently close to Watford and London. Room quality was very good and spacious. Both dinner and breakfast were great. The local area is very pleasent and quiet. Ample parking is available.
- Becky (6/5): Average stay - Staff were not over welcoming. Room was far too warm at night unable to control heat. Lack of tea and coffee in room. Cleaner came in at 8:15 despite check out being 11am. WiFi poor. Springs felt in mattresses overall hotel needs refurbishment which was why the hotel was so reasonably priced.
- Ashley (10/5): Great family friendly hotel - We booked this hotel as we were looking for somewhere quiet but also close to London and near by attractions. We found our experience here delightful the hotel room was cleaned to a very high standard and the staff were very friendly, even going out there way to move our room to a ground floor one due to my daughter being disabled. We ate hear for tea and breakfast both days and found the menu plentiful and food of high standard yet reasonably priced. Highly recommend and we will definitely book again.
- Pete (10/5): - Very nice country pub and hotel.
- Rod (10/5): - Excellent,
- Madeleine (8/5): - Rooms are in desperate need of refurbishment - mattresses and bathrooms are way past their sell-by date.
- Pauline (10/5): Highly recommend - We arrived at 10.30am and our room was ready.
Evening meal very good and excellent service.
Again breakfast was excellent value
All in all a great little find
- Shelley (8/5): - Lovely place to stay, staff super friendly. Really handy for Warner Studios Harry Potter world.
- Jeremy (8/5): Good modern, spacious room - Nice spacious room and bar area. Very friendly staff.
If I were to have grumble, shower was weak and difficult to get to warm from very hot ☝️
- steven (8/5): - only problem was noise of fan going all night and gurgling
from pluming .did report to reception nothing done.
- Neil (8/5): - Excellent value.
- STEPHEN (10/5): - We have stayed here a number of times and always had a great time. The area is so nice.
On this occasion we arrived back in the evening of the third night of four to find they had a power cut!
Until we had power restored we were all entertained by Sarah (the manager) Kate and other staff members.
A special thanks to Coral and Melissa for serving us breakfast with a friendly smile !
It was fabulous to talk to you both.
Cooked breakfast was excellent.
We will definitely stay again soon.
- Hilary (8/5): - Lovely setting facing the village common. Parts of the bedroom a little tired now and an update would help but the staff were very pleasant and helpful particularly when there was a power cut through no fault of theirs.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Will stay again - Clean and tidy if a little dated, welcoming staff with good food and drink, close to Harry Potter (5.5 miles)
- Jordan (10/5): Perfect little getaway - I cannot fault the hotel or service given.. we went to do a couple of things and the young waiter was helpful in advising where would be best to travel from to get into London. We ate all our main meals here and the food was superb each time. This Hotel is situated in a quaint little village where it is nice and quiet. Exactly my kind of place.
- Charlotte (8/5): Lovely place to stay - Great place to stay, the food was great. Only downside is that the rooms we were in was very dated but still comfortable.
- Neill (8/5): - Nice hotel with good staff in a great location. Food was tasty and reasonably priced. The rooms are a bit tired with peeling paint etc. They could also have done with a deeper clean but overall it was still a pleasant stay.
- Diana (6/5): Good value - Good value. Nice restaurant. Rooms need an update. Corridors have shredded carpets.
- Gillian (10/5): Super family stopover - It was perfect for a family stopover before our Warner Brothers Studio Tour. Friendly, comfortable, and staff getting into excitement mode for my grandson.
Breakfast was delicious, free coffee and juice a nice touch.
As others have said, some of the trims in the rooms, especially in the bathroom, are a little tired. But all was scrupulously clean and detracted not at all from our comfort and enjoyment.
We’re looking forward to another little break here - actively looking for other family activities in the area! Thanks to all the staff.
- Stephen (10/5): The Two Brewers - Fabulous evening meals , staff excellent, Room of a good size but in need of redecoration.
Good car park to the rear with cctv,
We didn’t have breakfast because we thought the cut off point was too early at 9 am but brunch was available after that.
Depending on your preference.
We pointed a couple of maintenance issues and the staff were eager to rectify them.
A very nice area to stay in and will have no hesitation in returning in the future.
- Nicola (6/5): Pretty average - Very dates rooms that need a redecoration but they are cheap. Nursing home vibe as soon as you leave the pub with worn carpets, dated lights and walls that need painting. Service in pub is slow and food was below average for the price. Breakfast you only get half a piece of toast for £10.50 not sure why they can’t afford to give you one whole bit! Pretty average but you get what you pay for. It was great location for us visiting Harry Potter studios only a 12 minute drive so perfect for that.
- Amy (10/5): - Place was lovely in a ain't little village, room was clean and tidy, staff were very polite, would definitely book again.
- Julie (4/5): - The Two Brewers was a cheap option for an overnight stay. On the positive side our room was clean and comfortable. However the whole place is very dated and in urgent need of a refurb. Staff were pleasant but service was slow. Food was average.
We opted for breakfast next morning which was pretty poor... coffee mediocre and croissants inedible. No buffet as such just a packet of museli brought to the table and choice of apple or banana. The greek yogurt however was nice. Toast was ok but cold by the time we got to it. For £6.99 it was not good enough.
Would rather stay in Premier Inn next time
- Verified traveler (10/5): Harry Potter Studio tour stayover - Room and building a little tired looking (décor and furniture) but comfortable and clean and had a great night sleep. Great value for money and great location for a trip to Warner Bros Studios
- Michael (8/5): Decent pub fare - Excellent breakfast
Good room ,clean & tidy
Shower was lacking any power at all
- Jean (10/5): - Great location with excellent and helpful staff.
- Jane (6/5): Adequate but nothing special - Hotel room was perfectly adequate but could do with a refresh of the decor soon. Service at reception was poor - had to wait ages for someone to serve us despite ringing the bell several times. We went to the bar in the end to find someone, and even that took ages. Breakfast was tasty, but the kitchen didn't seem to know what was on the gluten free menu and took my GF menu back so they could see. Room was quiet. Bath very slippy so use a bath mat or ask for one if there isn't one!
- Sandra (2/5): - They posted that they won't be open for good Friday, wasted my time, as I couldn't risk traveling there, so my journey was abandoned. I certainly hope that they have refunded my money. Please let me know. Thanks
- Verified traveler (8/5): Fantastic location, can be improved - Lovely stay in a fantastic location, with a great pub attached. The room does need a little attention, as there was some wallpaper peeling in places. The radiator in the room was stuck permanently on highest setting, and the shower was luke warm at best. Overall it was a great stay though.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Food very good great breakfast. Rooms are tired with the wallpaper peeling off, there was also mould in the bathroom. Staff very helpful and friendly.
- DAVID (10/5): - Enjoyable
- beverley (10/5): best hotel - brilliant hotel a lovely find staff are great very friendly best say in fabulas hotel
- Todd M (2/5): - The room smelt of mold. We had 2 rooms (1 separate for our son and 1 for my husband and I) and the second night I stayed with family as the smell of the room was making me sick. In our room the wallpaper was peeling off the walls. The shower was a joke. A trickle at best so we had to have a bath.
- Stephen (10/5): Super stay, great location. We will be back ! - This property is ideal to stay in whilst visiting family. Located in a lovely quiet setting within easy reach of Croxley / Watford by car. Parking is free and plentiful. The staff are fabulous and make you feel so welcome and nothing is too much trouble, the breakfasts are amazing and the bar with its open fires are charming and you can get an evening meal too. We have stayed 3 times in 2023 and will be staying again throughout 2024. Rooms are a little tired but are clean, spacious, warm and are so peaceful. What more can you ask for
- Michael (8/5): Executive room - Staff were friendly and helpful as always. Have stayed
In this room on several occasions and being of a
certain age had always found the bed very comfortable .
This time not so much, feel it could do with replacing?
Otherwise food and atmosphere was spot on.
- Alexander (10/5): - Lovely
- Rachel (8/5): - We had a friendly greeting on arrival and the staff were very helpful. The food was very good and the restaurant was cosy and festive. The rooms were comfortable, although one of them rooms was a bit chilly. It was a lovely stay and we would certainly stay again.
- Martin (8/5): - Traditional building with good features such as beams and open fires.
Hotel area in need of re-decoration and looking tatty.
Room clean and comfortable but needed some decorative attention - below television evidence of radiator removal that needed proper decorating.
In spite of this would still stay again.
- Bruce (6/5): Great pub but the hotel needs a major update - The pub, pub food, staff and location were brilliant. The hotel condition is like something out of my grandmas house though. The beds are lovely and comfortable and warm but the carpets are tired, the masticing in the bathroom is by a blind person and the decor is very tired
- monica (10/5): Definitely recommend - Really enjoyed our stay, we had a nice room, the food was excellent. There was a good atmosphere in the bar and restaurant and the staff were friendly. The hotel was in a nice setting overlooking a common and we had a pleasant walk around the village. There was a car park too.
- PAUL (2/5): - Very disappointed. The hotel room we stayed in is in need of complete updating. Lots of small details which if fixed would make a big difference to the room. For example .The bathroom is very dated and there is black mold marks on the tiling grout and the sealant around the bath and at floor level. The grab rail on the bath needs replacing as a lot of the aluminium has flaked off leaving almost half of it black. The electric towel rail didn't work even though it was switched on. It was loose and broken at one end. The bathroom was freezing as a result of this The wallpaper in the room had been stuck back together in many parts and looked shabby. The carpet by one bedside table looked like it had been eaten by moths and was threadbare in parts. The mattress on the bed was very uncomfortable and dipped in the middle.I also found long black hairs on the pillow and duvet. The lamp shade on one wall light hadn't been attached properly - we had to try and adjust it but there was a part missing. In contrast the bar and restaurant area were lovely as were all the staff who we met - all were very helpful and friendly. I really enjoyed our meal and the ambiance of the bar and the real fire. This was really cozy but the hotel side really lets this lovely place down
- Paul (8/5): - Great village pub atmosphere food, staff were excellent. Accommodation was dated but good. Our bathroom in family room needs a refurb but wqs clean.
- Aaron (8/5): Comfortable Hotel - Nice, tidy hotel. Bathroom could do with a freshen up, but other than that a very pleasant stay. The service from the staff in the restaurant during breakfast was great. very friendly and pleasant to talk to.
- Steve (10/5): - What a pleasant change from the "high end" big name hotels. A centuries old inn, with charm , character and a location to die for. The staff were exceptional and possibly the best English breakfast we have ever experienced. The serving team at breakfast were outstanding and starting our days interacting with them just provided the perfect start for the day.
- Alexander (8/5): - I stayed for two nights whilst working locally. Very convenient, friendly and comfortable. The Wi-Fi was not great but that is the only negative.
- Alison (6/5): - Staff and service excellent and very helpful and cheerful
Rooms were a good size. We had a wonderful king bed room adjoining our children’s twin bed room which worked well. Very comfortable beds.
Bathroom is in need of a full refurbishment. Some carpets and paintwork in stairway to rooms were tatty.
We arrived at 8:20 pm and we were not able to get bar food which was a surprise and inconvenient. Staff helped us find an alternative but it did mean we had to go out again just as we had arrived. This needs to change.
- Jenny (8/5): - Lovely old pub in a cute village. Great food but accommodation a bit tired. Big comfy bed.
- PETER (4/5): - It took 35 minutes to order breakfast and coffee came after 40 minutes
- Philip (6/5): - Good bar and restaurant. Rooms tired and in need of renovation (eg. holes in the carpet!)
- Tracey (10/5): - Lovely and clean, fantastic big bed, really good food and very helpful staff.
- D (10/5): Cracking place to stay - Lovely pub/hotel in a peaceful countryside area. Great staff and the food was delicious. Will return one day.
- Michael (8/5): - The pub faces the large open space which is excellent for a short walk or exefcising the dogs
- Verified traveler (6/5): One night stay - Hotel is in a lovely location, perfect for a visit to Warner Bros studio Tour.
Food in Resturant was good and reasonably priced, staff were friendly and helpful.
Our room was spacious, clean and the bed was comfy. The rooms are dated and the bathroom in particular was really shabby and dated, mould between tiles and very rusty shower/ bath grab rails. The hotel is definately in need of a refurb. Its a real shame as this place could be a real gem.
- Ian (6/5): Away for work - Staying away for work. When I arrived around 3pm road in which premises is located was very busy due to school pick-up. Check in was okay and room was comfortable. My room (105) had a dripping tap, but it did not affect my stay. Food in pub on evening was great (I had the beef pie). I had asked for decaf in my room when I booked and there was plenty in my room
- Lisa (8/5): Amazing and wonderful stay and friend staff - I’ve stayed at the two brewers a few times now twice with my partner and Hadza 3 day stay with my daughter and all the staff are really friendly and coral at breakfast is so so lovely and can’t do enough for you and the rooms are always clean.
- Michael (10/5): Two Brewers - Second time staying room was very comfortable and delicious breakfast
- David (6/5): - Having stayed here many times over the last 20 years, the rooms & hotel areas are now in need of a serious refurb.
Bar & restaurant still ok - breakfast excellent.
Great location, reasonable price, but distinctly “tired”.
- Gabrielle (8/5): - Nice place to stay with a cute pub in the front.
- Amanda (10/5): - Lovely room nice and warm very clean . Helpful receptionist on arrival . We invited friends for breakfast so there were 9 of us only 2 people had rooms booked and the waitress kept pushing us to check out even though it was only 10.40 . She wasn’t very attentive and had to wait ages before she appeared for more coffees . The full English breakfast was superb . So apart from this woman being a bit pushy to get rid of us the whole stay was really lovely . The bar the night before had a great vibe and was busy but still great service
- STEPHEN (10/5): - Comfortable, spacious room with plenty of storage space. Easy parking. Friendly, welcoming staff. We also enjoyed an excellent evening meal. I would chose to stay here again.
- GARETH (10/5): Harry Potter stay - Lovely, quaint village pub/hotel with friendly staff and great food. Good, free parking on site and within easy access of Harry Potter world. We also went to a place called Paradise Park which is a bit further away but well worth a visit.
- Adam (10/5): - Ideal little stop over. Quiet and comfortable
- Michael (10/5): Two Brewers hotel - Regular visitors to the restaurant, first overnight stay well impressed already booked our next one.
- Suzanne (2/5): - 'Dog Friendly' was the mantra on the website, so we booked, and when we got there it was anything but. Need to make this much clearer. Our wellbehaved mutt had to sleep in the car, was not allowed to sleep on the floor during breakfast. We felt like second-class citizens. Will not be back. Chicken in the evening meal gave the 3 of us who had it food poisoning all through first night. Just awful.
- Graham (10/5): - Quiet village location
- Verified traveler (10/5): Fantastic stay - Lovely location, great hotel. The service and food was wonderful. Would certainly go back.
- Peter (10/5): - Staff were friendly and food and beverages very good!
- Jill (8/5): Jill and Pat - Comfortable and easy to find. Friendly with good food for dinner.
Slightly run down but feels almost ‘homely’!
- Paul (10/5): - Excellent pub and hotel in lovely location. The friendly staff serve great food. The stay was bliss. The value for money will be hard to better.
- Christopher (6/5): - Nice hotel/pub in a lovely location overlooking the village green. Comfortable bed, but next to car park so early leavers could be heard. Bathroom clean, but a bit tatty in some corners and a couple of fittings had been removed from the wall above the bath, leaving sharp projections. However, staff were responsive when this was reported. Breakfast was OK, but we would have liked more choices for starters, e.g. fruit salad, and we would have preferred to self-serve. The choice of cooked options was good, but we weren't offered toast with marmalade/jam, croissants, etc. All staff we encountered were friendly and welcoming.
- Matthew (10/5): Great stay, lovely food, quiet - A real gem, staff were all lovely: genuine, lovely to talk to. The food was fantastic - twice I ordered too much as so much on the menu looked good! Would hugely recommend the Korean chicken strips. Bar and restaurant area were quiet and a genuinely nice, modern rustic place to be. Never have I noticed so many other people go out of their way to speak to the staff before they leave to say how nice everything was. The hotel rooms are behind the pub, clean, well equipped, quiet and comfy. Opposite is the common with nice walks etc. Looking forward to staying again in the future!
- Gabrielle (6/5): Clean but poorly maintained - We loved being in Chipperfield, so calm air so sweet and the woods just outside. However, the hotel is only just acceptable.
- Harry (10/5): - Absolutely fabulous place to stay.Really enjoyed our stay .Friendly staff, nice clean and comfy room.Lovely meals and good ale, situated in a very quiet picturesque area, highly recommended.
- Andrew (8/5): - Nice old pub with hotel attached. Very friendly and efficient staff. However the room was in need of refurbishment with wallpaper peeling from the walls and a bit dated. Also very poor refreshments in the room. All we had was 2 sachets of coffee and some UHT milk. The quality of the restaurant in the pub was excellent however, so a bit of a mixed bag.
- Carolyn (2/5): Extremely disappointed - Room well below basic standards. Mould in bathroom, toilet seat dirty, wall paper peeling, mould in corner of wardrobe.
Camp bed in what was said to be a twin room. Ground floor room where the window was open and we were unable to close or lock it. Paint chipped and very shabby entrance and door handle plate to room dirty.
- David (10/5): - Comfortable and friendly
- Keith (6/5): The hotel is Shabby - The hotel is in a stunning location having friendly helpful staff however the hotel is shabby and in need of redecoration. The food was acceptable but not of a standard that I would like to recommend anyone to eat there
- Natalie (10/5): - Lovely room, fair price, bathroom could do with update but overall really good service didn’t get there until late
- Darren Paul (8/5): - No issues with the stay.
Property needs some work - there was a leaking roof in the stairway but this was being worked on. Didn't affect our stay.
- julian (10/5): two brewers - excellent
