Guest Reviews
- Christina (10/5): Clean, comfortable, and convenient location to Mohegan Sun. - Easy to find and right off the highway. The room was exceptionally clean and the motel was right across from a Dunkin..perfect! I was pleased with everything.
- Gary (8/5): -
- frank (3/5): -
- Erin (6/5): -
- Pauline (7/5): - Good location Walls were a little thin.
- Kimberley (8/5): - Convenience, clean
- Katherine (8/5): Nice quiet clean room with nice managers - It was a great place to stop while traveling through New England. Right off the highway and very quiet.
The hotel had all night service which we so appreciated as we got there at past one in the morning.
- Joel (10/5): - The owner was especially friendly and helpful. The room was clean and attractive, just like the photo. Wish there were additional pillows and a coffee maker, but we did not view other larger rooms, so it may have just been this one. It was very satisfying to support a small business.
- Angel W (9/5): -
- Amelia (2/5): - The check in time on Expedia said midnight. We were there at 1150pm. No one was there to check us in. I called the number, it was an answering machine. I would like a refund please
- Hugh (10/5): The owner and his wife were very welcoming and the next day came by to make sure all was good during the stay and he too - Convenient, easy parking NA
- Shelley (6/5): - It was an average experience. The owners were nice. The bathrooms were clean; the room seemed clean at first glance. But my toddler dropped something behind the bed as he usually does even at home, I had to move it slightly and it was very dirty underneath the bed. I almost wanted to ask for a broom and sweet it myself. Other than that it was an okay experience. I liked that it was quiet and a close distance to entertainment like Foxwoods.
- Bonnie (10/5): - The owner was very friendly and she was very professional. The room was very clean and nice.
- Jennifer (8/5): Good location, great price - Great cost effective place to stay close to Mohegan Sun! Uber was inexpensive to and from the concert. Room was spacious and had a fridge. Bed was comfy enough. Our only issue was the little window unit ac never got it quite cold enough for our preference, but it did cool it down enough to sleep.
- Viviane (5/5): Pratique pour une nuit. - La réception, le prix La Clim trop bruyante, l’odeur dans les chambres
- pete (4/5): - Almost ran out of toilet paper. Aircon suspect. Expensive för what your getting. Tiny bags shampoo & soap bars - not enough towells för 3. Had to call for the password for the internet. Television wouldn't work initially owner had to come figure it out.
- Troy (8/5): Decent for one night - It’s the overflow from the casino motel. It’s about 12 min drive to Mohegan Sun.
- Kathy (8/5): It was clean and it looked like they were working on updates. - The property was convenient to the New London Ferry. The front desk was kind and helpful with information. The rooms were clean but in general the place needs some updates. I would say that everything was fine.
- Kayla (8/5): Simple but clean - The owner was super friendly. The room was good size, but very basic. I think it was a little pricey for what we got, but overall it was a nice place and I would go back !
- Benjamin (8/5): - It does what it says on the label.
- Robert (10/5): Recommended - Stayed here for two nights while spending a weekend at the casino. It’s close to Mohegan Sun, only about 12 minutes away and saved me a lot of money. 24 hour mini mart next door too. The husband and wife (owners?) were really kind and friendly. It was quiet, the room was clean, fridge and microwave. It was a great deal and I would definitely stay here again next time I go to the casino overnight rather than pay full weekend rate at the casino which is like $500-600 a night.
- Lisa (4/5): - seems to be cop rats residing here, so if privacy is important to you go elsewhere.
- Milena (6/5): Overpriced with no functioning ac - This is an old motel. The room was clean.
It was very hot because the air-conditioning unit was on but was not removing any moisture from the air. As a result, the room was like a sauna.
The windows cannot be opened.
The bathroom is extremely small with no shelving for toiletries and no shelving in the shower for shampoo etc.
This motel is overpriced.
- Mathew (2/5): - The shower was too gross to use, there was hair all over the mattress, and the tv was not working and the staff could not fix it and told me “I don’t know what to tell you”. We put the room key in the drop box and left at 11:00 pm and didn’t even bother staying the night in the motel.
- Karen (9/5): Superb -
- Brenda (8/5): Very good -
- Rudolf (10/5): - Great
- Frances (8/5): - No problem very clean would of liked a coffee maker.. tissue dispenser was empty
- Derek (6/5): - For the price compared to other lodging in the area this this a great value. The staff was very helpful, nice and welcoming. And it’s location is very convenient to Mohegan Sun Casino (15 min drive).
Having said that, the motel has its shortcomings.
To start, the room was dirty. We dropped a hand towel on the floor and when we picked it up it was filthy. The shower still had hair in it from the last people who stayed there. And the bedding was so uncomfortable that my wife and I went to Target and bought a new blanket and set of sheets. Additionally, the rooms were not sound proof.. We will leave that one at that.
I would not recommend this lodge as a family stay, but if you are going to Mohegan for the night/weekend it is comfortable enough. I would recommend bringing your own blankets and pillows for comfort.
- James (7/5): Good -
- Jacquelyn (7/5): Good -
- Sydney (8/5): - Was a place to sleep
- Glen (9/5): Superb -
- George (5/5): Passable - The room was clean and the bed was actually comfortable. There was no hot water and the cable was not working.
- Teresa (10/5): - Nice and clan
- Katharine (8/5): Friendly , clean and fresh. - Room recently remodeled, nicely done. The tv was hard to see so small and bed I think was full not queen.
- Robert (10/5): - Property well kept and recently renovated
- Elena (10/5): Exceptional -
- Wheeler (2/5): Very poor -
- Cesar (10/5): Exceptional -
- Craig (9/5): Superb - The owner was very accommodating. He took the time to ensure that I was satisfied with the room and that my needs were met.
- Carmen (3/5): Poor -
- James (7/5): Well worth the price paid. They’ve clearly been making strides to update the property and it shows. -
- Joshua (5/5): It'll do if Mohegan is booked or too expensive, but don't expect a lot. - Convenient to Mohegan Sun, was able to check in late. Room was very clean. Attendant was nice. Uncomfortable bed. TV stuck one one channel and could only turn on/off or change volume. No coffee machine. Room was not turned down overnight, so no extra shampoo / towels.
- 21pent (2/5): EXTREMLY bad Motel. DONT GO THERE VERY BAD PEOPLE "OWNER HOTEL". WORST PLACE - I REALLY HUMBLE REQUEST YOU PLEASE DO NOT GO THERE, VERY BAD PEOPLE VERY VERY VERY VERY EXTREMLY BAD MOTEL AND OWNER. Bugs were everywhere in the room everywhere,
, please do not waste your money. WORST WORST WORST WORST area. Uncomfortable mattress, OWNER keep eyes on your room, so no privacy, be care full they might steal your things or will never return if you forget. Very bad people
- John (8/5): - price and convenient location to Mohegan Sun
- perry (6/5): - Very adequate economy facility. All the basic needs met. Will stay there again.
- Diane (10/5): - When we checked in the man was very helpful, told us where to find what we were looking for. Answered all of our questions, made us feel very welcome!
- Mike (8/5): - A solid budget motel. The room was clean and the shower was hot with good pressure which is all I was looking for. I would stay there again.
- Barry (4/5): GO ELSEWHERE ... never again! - Old-fashioned room. No coffeemaker, coffee, tea or even paper cups for microwave. Double beds were single beds strapped together. Beds were hard and over-used. Pillows were flat foam, Dollar Store quality (which may be slightly better). Had to use blankets as pillow substitute. Sink faucet kept spinning around. Amenities such as soap & conditioner were cheap and single packets (had to share). Clerk did not give us internet access code, not located in room, had to walk back to get code. In-room phone did not allow to call front desk. My i-phone kept dropping signal and loosing internet access. Not an attractive site, it is an old-fashioned 50's motel. Not worth the price-tag of $175. Budget motel - for the owner! At $175 a night, owner should provide a few more dollars of item and comfort. Would not stay here again. My advice, GO ELSEWHERE!
- Gabrielle (4/5): Small and overpriced - It was semi- close to Mystic where we would be spending the weekend and the pet fee was low- $20/night. The owner said it is due to the "good washing of the sheets" they do afterwards. No housekeeping during stay. Unclear if we were supposed to dump our own garbage.
3 adults & 1 med. dog. The room was small and dark -no overhead light- only at table and night table, very bright in bathroom. Room alternated between too hot (Mom says bathroom was always cold) and cold (AC/Fan buttons were difficult). Only 2 chairs at table. Disappointed there was no sleep timer on the small TV which was desperately needed as the shower was dripping. The phone did not give directions on how to use (call 9? area code first?) to call the office and when did reach the number, it went to answering machine. I think they called us back but we did not pick it up in time. Parking was right outside the room, although since we were in 2 cars, my Dad had to park a few spots down. Also there was a very steep front step in front of the room which my Dad, who uses a cane, struggled with. Unfortunately, it was too cold to use the outdoor seating, swings, gazebo, and pool (not opened yet). People smoked outside as there was multiple ashtrays but no smoking inside room. There were no extra pillows available and mine smelled like smoke. When moving the undersheet, I saw a small blood stain on it. So overall disappointing and no one slept well.
- David (10/5): - Much has been done to improve this property and is obvious. Owner was accommodating.
- David (10/5): - Clean. Staff was friendly and helpful. Classic “old school” motel vibe. Convenient to casinos nearby.
- Tracey (10/5): - Loved that the owner was friendly and worked with us during an ice storm. 1-10 Stars , he gets a 12.💛💛 Thank You so very much.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Way too expensive for what you get - Does not provide some standard amenities such as coffeemaker or coffee in the lobby and kleenex in the room. Floor was dirty. But owner was nice.
Also, the traffic pattern makes it difficult to get on the highway during certain hours.
The reviews I read were misleading. I would not stay here again.
- OLBIGDOG (2/5): Don't waste your money. - This motel has not been updated except a new tile floor. No place to hang clothes tv was about 16x12 more like a monitor. No coffee old beds and chairs. Not a nice place to stay.
Some say excellent... They must have been drunk dont waste your money.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Clean and functional. It would have been nice if the AC had cooled down the room before we got there, but otherwise fine.
- Ellen G (8/5): Great local motel - This motel was recommended by locals. I can see why; it was perfectly fine and less expensive than the national chains nearby. It was easy to find, and was located close to the places I was planning to go.
The owner could not have been more gracious. He took the time to tell me all I needed to know about the room and the motel. My room was clean, the bathroom was clean and there was plenty of room to spread out. There was a small fridge and microwave in the room. I didn't use the microwave, but the fridge was clean and cold.
My only complaint would be that there were only 2 outlets in the room, one completely occupied with the air conditioner and bedside lamp. I ended up borrowing an extension cord so I could charge my phone, because the other plug was on the other side of the room.
The room and motel were perfect for my needs, a place to sleep/shower while I spent the rest of the time with family.
Next time I visit with family I will stay there again.
- George (6/5): It is Satisfactory - It is an older Motel, so there is a lot that can be updated. That being said, it was clean and neat, the beds were adequate. There is a lot of HOT water that I like. Overall it was a nice 2 day stay for the price.
- T723BYbarbarab (6/5): Comments on Oakdell Motel - While this is an older property, the outside of the motel is well maintained, and the rooms are in the process of being upgraded. The motel is nearby good restaurants and other accommodations. The owner, Vipul is very accommodating and easy to work with.
- charles (8/5): Comfortable - Comfortable affordable room for a night in CT
- Verified traveler (10/5): - All ok
- MotelHell1986 (2/5): Motel Hell w a twisted religious cult twist - Worst stay ever. Absolutely AWFUL Run down over priced rooms. Filthy bathroom and worst uncomfortable mattress. Check in lady, Gail, freaked me out w her born again religious nonsense. Go a few miles down the road and stay at a decent motel w intelligent, kind staff. Totally MOTEL HELL
- Jeff (4/5): - A/C temperature control did not work. It was either on or off. The television was tiny, about 13 inch. WiFi was not working in my room.
- Mary (2/5): - Room had such an awful smell !!! And a few questionable people around the place not a good feeling at all will never come here again.
- Rroberts815 (10/5): Amazing stay - The location is convenient, the accommodations are great, and Gail and her family are super sweet people. We get the same room every time and it feels like a room out of Anne of green gables. Love it.
- Markanthonycarter (2/5): TERRIBLE! - My lady & I spent the night there recently & would strongly recommend AGAINST staying here again. The beds were old & squeaky. The sink was falling off the wall. We saw other people there who looked like they were homeless but they were calm. My lady thinks this place rents out rooms to homeless people. It was a terrible experience!
- Verified traveler (6/5): Okay place - The place is old but clean. The matresses need to be replaced since they sag and it was diffficult to sleep well on the beds. The check in person was nice and they do have coffee, juice and donuts in the am. Wifi did not always work.
- Brad (6/5): - For the price for staying the night it’s great. But it’s an antique kinda vibe going on so everything is pretty old and needs serious update. Since everything is old it doesn’t seem clean so all depends on point of view of each person. Had a good sleep and pool is good to enjoy your time there as well as casino not far from motel. If you want modern technology and not antique go somewhere else. If you need a place just to sleep and pass a little bit of time then recommend this place. Staff is so friendly and area is nice. Like I said just needs update to modernize place. Does have WiFi though.
- James (6/5): Price equals quality, no complaints here - It’s a motel and you get what you pay for. Price is right for a quick stay and the woman who runs it was very friendly. It what I expected so no complaints and 15 minutes for Mohegan Sun
- John (8/5): Nice value - Not a lot of frills but comfortable and clean.
- Vince (6/5): Great location, quiet stay - Very nice people run the place. Convenient to Mohegan Sun. It's an okay place, everything is older but not horrible. Good for a place to sleep a night. Nice and quiet
- 715luip (10/5): Amazing place! - This motel is amazing really nice and cozy place best motel I've stayed so far. I would defenetly recommend this . If you are looking for a place with fair price and peaceful great staff then this is the place.
- joy (8/5): - It was a nice clean motel, it was a mom & pop type motel, room was clean and neat. Didn't have to pay a fortune just to sleep. The owner was very pleasant & accommodating to our needs. She even had juice, coffee & donuts out for guests for breakfast. I would stay again.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Overnight stay on way to out of state wedding. - I wouldn’t stay there again, old and bad smell, and the window A.C. Unit in room was soooo loud it sounded like a train, we asked to switch rooms and the next room was only slightly better, it seemed more like section 8 housing to me.
- L (4/5): - Staff welcoming. Room beyond dated. Dusty, musty and moldy.
- toxicologyforever (2/5): Nasty Place! - This place is nasty. We were charged over $100 for a room that doesn't even deserve $25/night. Where to begin... as I entered this room, I could smell the old, nasty carpet. The window AC did not work properly and left the room feeling hot and humid. The mattresses are so worn out that you can feel the springs and one of the mattresses was so old it made a loud squeaky sound whenever you sit down. The bathroom is just gross!!! The shower looked filthy, which made me not want to take a shower because I was afraid to contract athlete's foot or whatever else. Unless you are used to spending your nights in dives like these and have very low standards, look elsewhere to stay!!
- Verified traveler (2/5): - We did not stay, and will be disputing the charges on our credit card if the hotel does not refund us our money. We waited at the front desk for about 20 mins, and no one was there to check us in. We walked the grounds looking for someone who worked there, and even went behind the front desk to look for keys, or some sort of info that would tell us where to go. Nothing. We had no choice but to leave.
- JM (8/5): - Pleasant and friendly staff who are the owners. Older motel but clean.
- Noreen (2/5): - The owner was pleasant. The room was DISGUSTING!!! There was mold all over the bathroom. The beds smelled like urine. The fridge - don't open it!!! We didn't stay 10 mins - I was afraid to put my bags down. We were refunded our money quickly and she was very understanding. Couldn't get out of there fast enough.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - .close to the beach, and the lady who ran it so sweet
- Brian (10/5): - I'm here for the Barrett-Jackson auction at Mohegan Sun. This motel is close and affordable. The owner is very nice and the rooms arent fancy but are clean and comfortable. This is my second stay here and i will be back.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Pleasant stay and staff. Quiet location, but very convenient!
- msloan7111 (10/5): Nice Motel - My husband and I travel for a living. This motel was conveniently located right down the street from our place of work. Gail and her employees, Charlan and Andre, were very friendly and accommodating. Very nice people!! If you want a cozy and homey place to stay, Oakdell Motel is for you. Even though it's located on a busy street, we did not hear any cars. The grounds are beautiful!! If our business takes us back to Waterford, we will definitely stay here again. Thanks Gail and everyone for your hospitality! Hopefully we will see again!
- Gary (8/5): Casino fun convenient! - Nice staff, old style motel, simple and comfortable. Its not a fancy style place but was great for one night of fun at Mohegan sun!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Wi-Fi is amazing and secured, best I have ever had at any hotel/motel. Outdoor pool was 8 feet deep and very nice. Grounds are well kept and very nice. Motel is in a great location and close to many things, shopping, casinos and entertainment. Beds are not the greatest, but I slept.
- EnigmaPDX (6/5): It is a MOTEL! - It was conveniently located, clean and pool was very usable. Was actually a little impressed and expected worse. Office was unmanned at arrival and took a few minutes to track someone down to check in, Went smooth after this. Spent a few hours in pool area in the afternoon and it was very nice. Grounds are very well kept and surroundings are nice. On a major thoroughfare so you can expect traffic noise if you open your window in the room, was not bad with windows closed.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Good value - Decent budget motel. Couldn't open windows as cranks were missing so had to use a/c which I otherwise wouldn't have. Beds ok. Bathroom in need of updating! Proprietor very nice.
- KimH157 (2/5): WARNING!!!!! DO NOT STAY HERE!!! - We stayed here once before and while the room was ok there's religious paraphernalia EVERYWHERE including all over the front desk office when we checked in. I felt like I was checking into some sort of cult motel and this made me very uncomfortable. The rooms were also marginal and run down. That said we decided to give this place on more try since the location is decent and the woman, albeit spooky nice was likely a nice person. I believe in giving someone the benefit of the doubt however, this time I was VERY WRONG. Booked a hotel to stay near the casino so that we could head up to Rhode Island THE NEXT DAY. Well the hotel had a problem with my credit card and they called me about it. Fine, the guy who called me said it was no problem when I told him we'd just swap out the card when we got there. Well we got there and it turns out the woman who ran the hotel decided to cancel our reservation and that the guy was incorrect in what he told us. She had a distinct gleam in her eye when she said sorry we canceled your reservation and now we're all booked up. I wanted to slap that smile right off her face. Nice, no hotel and it's 1 in the morning. Call around for an hour and nothing else available so we had to drive over an hour back home at 2am. Thanks lady for screwing up our Sunday. Never stay and at the Oakdell Motel in Groton, ever because your reservation is as good as doo doo. There's too many other comparably priced motels around to ever give this place another look. I am writing a warming to all travelers who are contemplating staying here This lady and her hotel can go to hell.
- Brian (8/5): It was convenient and affordable. - We stayed there because it was close to Mohegan Sun and the Barrett-Jackson auction. The beds were clean and comfortable, shower clean, that's all I needed.
- 364anthonya (6/5): Atlantic Cite Expressway June 11, 2017 - If you plan on heading into Atlantic City Casino area via Exit 38 off of the Garden State Parkway don't do it on the day they plan the Bike-A-Thon !! Find another way in. I don't know who planned it but they sure didn't think it out very well !!! The traffic was stopped dead before the Expressway toll and it took an hour for a 5 minute drive to Atlantic St. They closed off Exits 1-2-3- on the Expressway AND the right lane. On a Sunday in June so the bikers could ride on the Expressway. The traffic was horrible as it was 90 degrees and people were blowing their horns the whole time. Always check the traffic and plan alternate routes , as summer nears the traffic
gets very bad. Their are other ways to the beach and casino's. Use them whenever possible.
- hornet31 (10/5): Rest and Relax - A very complete motel. Very quiet, nice TV and Refrig. On a main road but still very quiet and peaceful. Coffee shops and Food Courts on same road. The cost is Low and worth the stay.Found main room and bathroom very clean. This was not my first time here and will not be the last.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Oakdell Motel - Awesome
- Verified traveler (2/5): Ouch. - Had to put a cover over the peephole looking in?!?! Bed creaked horribly from the smallest movement. Door was a luan door! It was so thin, we put the chair up against it, but felt no comfort. Could hear all the "neighbors" through the walls. Left at 1:20am and drove 2 hours home due to the flies and fear of being broken in on. Don't stay here. Only saving grace is that the wonderful older woman running the desk was awesome. Full remodel needed.
- liziocca (2/5): Smells musty, dusty, lumpy - The owner and people are very friendly but that's it. The pool was green and the room was musty smelling, dusty and in need of a good scrubbing. The bathroom was clean but the shower left a lot to be desired. How this EVER got a four star rating is beyond me.
- 329debd (6/5): Basic but clean - This is a basic roadside motel. Easy access right off the highway.
The positives: The room we had was clean and had plenty of room, including a sizable closet. There was a small fridge and microwave and there was a pool, picnic tables and grills for convenience. The staff was friendly and helpful. The wifi worked great and was easy to access. It was very quiet, which was good for sleeping.
The negatives: Basically, the rooms could use some sprucing up. Our room had a musty smell and was in serious need of updating. The windows had screens but we couldn't open them to air out the room. The beds creaked and groaned when you got in and out of them but were fairly comfortable. There were plenty of pillows but they were flat and a bit hard. Décor was quite outdated.
Of note: The continental breakfast consists of donuts, coffee and juice - so don't rely on filling up there in the morning. The grounds are not as spacious as the pictures make them seem. The drink vending machine did not work.
- pdones (10/5): Gem - I needed a place to stay last minute and found this gem through yelp. They were so kind and helpful, even at 4am. The room was super clean and cozy! The place has a very nice atmosphere with many places to enjoy the outdoors. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a place to stay in the area.
- shawnh356 (8/5): Nice traditional Motel . friendly Owner, clean ! - I could not find a room close to Squam/Westerly. I usually stay at the Aquastar inn. The aqua has decided that their prices should be as much as a top beach side notch Inn, which it is not. So rather than pay 200 bucks for a saturday night, I found the Oakdell.I used to pay less than a 100 at the aqua BTW. The Oakdell is a 25-30 min from Westerly beaches, but it is also closer to ocean beach, and Rocky neck.It is worth the drive to stay at the oakdell. The Owner gave me a great deal on the second night. The pool is not picture perfect(Some tiles need to be replaced which she says will be done for next season, and she seems honest) but the water is clean and crystal clear. the Crystal Mall is less than a mile away as well as I-95. I Will definitely stay again.each room has a Fridge a microwave.
- kimcat10310 (6/5): Friendly and Welcoming - My family stayed two days at the Oakdell Motel during the Barrett Auction at Mohegan Sun. Gail and her staff were very friendly, family-oriented and welcoming. Additionally, the rooms were clean and comfortable and the gazebo was nice. The location was convenient to Mystic Seaport and the two Ct casinos.
Kim in SI, NY
- lcvalencia (8/5): nice mom and pop place - A real country motel. Nothing fancy but a great value run by the nicest lady, Gail. She did everything to provide a good customer experience. The rooms are a little out dated but you won't find a cleaner room or linens anywhere. The property is charming with a pool, gazebo, flower gardens, bbq grills and anything else you need to have a nice place to relax outside. Good coffee in the morning, with oj and donuts. Just enough to get you started for the day. Can't mention enough the owner Gail who has the best customer service skills I've ever seen and I teach customer service. Thanks for a great stay Gail and we'll be back for sure. Sorry we could only stay one night.. Lisa
