• Lorna (8/5): - I have to use a mobility and all the automatic door openers which keep them open so you could get through weren't working. The lift was very small and my medium sized scooter would only just fit in, if I removed the basket to get the doors to close.

• Wendy (10/5): A Great Stay! - A great hotel at a reasonable price. We were there on a Saturday and there was entertainment in the evening too. We had tickets to a concert, but it all seemed to be going well when we got back. Staff were great. Parking on-site for £6 per day. Room was lovely and beds comfy. Woyld recommend

• Nicola (8/5): Fine for what we needed it for - Pleasant hotel, seems to be aimed at groups and coach tours but it was fine for a one night stay. Good spacious room. Bathroom ok - shower was a bit lack lustre and could have done with a lot more pressure but again, it was fine for a one night stay. We parked on the Esplanade for free and walked to the hotel (about 10 minutes) but there is a car park at the back of the hotel too if you don't mind paying. Overall a good stay for a good price. We paid extra for breakfast which was pretty good but if we stayed again, we would probably eat at the Rowntree Lodge cafe next door.

• Andrew (4/5): Disappointing end to a wonderful break - This was one of the poorest hotels that we have stayed at in quite some time. Firstly, we were staying on the 3rd floor and so we waited for the lift, which could only hold 4 people and which travelled really slow. When we got into the room it was very dated, with dirty and greasy marks on the walls and not what you would expect from a Caledonian Hotel. The TV in the room was the smallest that I've seen in any hotel ever (in fact my laptop screen was bigger). It was a warm night and there was a broken fan, which I tried to fix but couldn't. The bed consisted of a tired sprung mattress on top of a 1 inch thick chipboard board. It was very uncomfortable and sloped away from the centre towards the edges. There was no soap in the soap dispenser above the sink. The signs / stickers above the sink had been put on skewed. The sealant around the shower had obviously not been done by a tradesman and the shower taps were also fitted on a skew. Breakfast was a minor disaster with guests constantly asking staff where plates were kept (including myself). The plates were extremely hot. The quality of the food was generally poor; hash browns were bland, sausages were tasteless, bacon was fatty and scrambled egg was watery. Worst of all were the sachets of brown sauce, which tasted more like a sugary tomato ketchup? On the sachets was a picture of onions and apples?

• Niall (10/5): - Better than expected. Having dogs we have been used to more run down hotels. Keep it up, as the dog loving fraternity tend to be the people classed as grey, with the most ability to spend.

• Jessica (4/5): - Staff on the desk were friendly and provided a good service. We asked to borrow and iron and ironing board and this was brought to our room within minutes. Unfortunately, the mattress was really uncomfortable/creaky. And despite trying to change the settings on the radiator overnight, we were not able to turn it off, meaning we had to have the window open (but it was still very hot in the room). We also unfortunately had the neighbours from hell - they arrived back at 11.45 waking us up with their loud argument. They then proceeded to loudly make it up to eachother, then started arguing again after that. We could hear absolutely everything through the walls which are thin and definitely not sound proof. Worst night's sleep. Wouldnt go back. Sorry.
• Mark (8/5): Great Scarborough hotel - Nice stay here. Parked up early to have a walk around town. Nice easy check-in at 3pm by the lovely lady receptionist. Rooms nice. Clean and spacious for two. Beds comfortable rooms quiet. Only critical feedback - no late bar. We came back after being at the open air theatre expecting we could get a night cap. Was only around 11pm and not possible owing the bar cashing up. Could not even charge in the room. Failing this we also tried to buy some snacks on the reception. Also couldn’t do this as everything was cashed up. Seemed a shame, we were not the only people walking in. Also breakfast times are 8am - 9.15am (on a Saturday) Seemed a little narrow of a window to be honest and this created quite some crowing around the buffet and food running out. Whilst we have no problem getting in we saw at least two couples get turned away for breakfast at 9.20am. Nice hotel and will come back. I just felt a bit more flexibility on these two aspects would be much more customer centric and turn a 4 star review to 5.
• Miss H (10/5): All fine for a 12 hour stop in Scarborough! - Fit for purpose a single room for a one night stop for a concert. Arrived late left early. Only 12 hours in scarborough ! Love the town great Madness concert at the open air theatre. Bus home from the OAT dropped right outside the hotel. Brilliant

• Linda (10/5): - The property was tastily decorated throughout, good location to beach and amenities. £2 carpark fee for outside parking for 2 days. The Only drawback our bedroom window was overlooked by another property so we had to close the curtains in the day and unfortunately shut the sunshine out but this can be easily sorted with a blind or net curtaining

• Colin (4/5): - Very disappointed. Most expensive hotel we used in our trip, and by far the worst. Lovely reception area and public area, but the ‘superior’ room was like something out of the 1920’s; dark, dreary and in badly need of updating. The furniture was probably taken from a charity auction….Cold water only in the shower. Breakfast 8am to 9.15, so didn’t think that to go at &.50 was unreasonable but it was made clear that we were an inconvenience to the staff as we were among the last guests to eat….think the bus trip residents had left early for their trip. All in all a huge disappointment and glad to leave. Shame really as the hotel has great potential, just needs some good leadership and some investment!
• Anita (10/5): Another Great Stay! - Another guaranteed lovely stay at the New Southlands. We had a quiet, comfortable room and, although dated, is spotlessly clean, well maintained and with new bedding and towels. The staff are so friendly and genuinely want you to have a lovely stay with them, I would always recommend it if you are visiting Scarborough. It's up on the South Cliff, but a short walk to the centre and you can go via the main road which is all flat and accessible. If you are more mobile, it's a short walk to the beautiful gardens, which lead down to the Spa Theatre and the seafront. Plenty of free parking within 5 minutes walk, but the hotel do have a first come first served car park, at an additional cost, if you want your car nearby.
• Darren (10/5): Perfect for a weekend away in Scarborough. - Good value for money, well located, and £10 for a nice breakfast is not bad at all.
• Ken (8/5): Night away - Value for money hotel, room very clean with good mattress. Only issue was i could not open the bedroom window but the en suite window was fine. Staff were helpful. There is free on street parking after 5pm with a 3 hour disc limit after 9am. About 15 minutes walk to Scarborough centre.
• Guy (10/5): Decent - Nice hotel. Quality of accommodation in Scarborough is a bit hit and miss so this was a nice surprise. Good service, clean, well maintained.

The fish dish was tasteless.What fish was it ? The vegetable curry was mostly cauliflower. I asked for a glass of water which never arrived . Chatting with other guests later we learnt the breakfasts were lacking basic items. So we were glad we had only booked the room.

The hotel is in good condition, and we were very pleased with our room - Room 101. The breakfast was good value at £10 per person. We will stay at The New Southlands again.

The rooms are a little dated, but spotlessly clean and well maintained. We don’t spend much time there, so all mod cons not essential for us. Excellent value for money and a place we return to again and again.

The hotel boasts an excellent location, conveniently close to the funicular for Scarborough Spa, making it easy to explore the area. The room was perfectly clean, which is always a priority for me when choosing accommodation. However, there were noticeable signs of wear and tear throughout the hotel, which could use some attention to maintain its overall appeal. One of the highlights of my stay was the breakfast provided. It was hearty and satisfying, setting a good tone for the day ahead. Additionally, having on-site parking was convenient, although it operates on a first-come, first-served basis, which might pose a challenge during peak times. Despite the minor drawbacks, I would consider staying again in the future due to its unbeatable location and the overall positive experience during our stay

• Tara (4/5): Not as expected. - Photos on here are very misleading! The room we had was not as photographed on the standard double option. Room wasn’t properly cleaned as would have been expected but was satisfactory. Duvet only just fit the bed. Half the mattress was soft the other half hard and was also at a slant which we didn’t realised till we got into bed. Had to wedge the window open with a piece of wood if wanted to have it open. Wasn’t told the restaurant wasn’t open when we arrived so we expected to have a full menu to choose from. Was then told it was bar snacks. I asked if the pizzas are freshly made which they said they were but then declined to put vegan cheese on a meat feast pizza saying it was due to health and safety!? I’m not vegan I just don’t eat cheese as a personal choice. Then got told there was no vegan cheese left when ordering the plant lovers pizza. Food was below standard when it came. Ordered a chicken and prawn platter but there was more salad than chicken. Even the salad was awful. Hindsight - we should have gone elsewhere to eat. Breakfast - dirty glasses, cold plates, croissants burnt, coffee machine broke and overheard a member of staff saying they knew and were waiting for someone to come service it. Cooked breakfast was ok though. Staff were friending enough. Couldn’t fault the guy on the bar in the evening. It was a last min getaway for our anniversary and although had a nice time overall the hotel was a let down and I was disappointed.
• Janette (10/5): - A lovely friendly greeting and check in / out. My room was really comfortable and clean and I think newly decorated with new curtains. I’ve stayed here a few times now and always feel safe. Excellent hotel.

• Chris (6/5): OK but needs some TLC - An old building which was grand but is now tired. Our room was clean and tidy but in need of a make-over. My best description is creaking and bland. The public areas of the hotel still show signs of grandure. We had breakfast on one day which was excellent and reasonably priced. It was help yourself with a good selection of fresh hot and cold food. During our stay all the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. In conclusion, a pleasant stay for the price paid.

• Ash (10/5): - We loved our stay at the hotel, the place is clean the staff are friendly and professional. The room was great, plenty of space for 2 adults and 2 dogs, very dog friendly. Drink bowls in 2 places for them to have a drink. Breakfast was great, cold and hot options, very tasty. We had 2 very small pieces of feedback, there were no coasters/beer mats in the bar area to put glasses on. The room we stayed didn't have a bright light near a mirror for me putting on make up. Important as I had a job interview. But very small things. We would definitely stay there again, and we will.

Staff were very friendly and approachable especially Tracey and Ruth. Was 10 min walk to blue bridge (Grand Hotel) out of hotel right at traffic lights, left at bottom follow to bridge

• Laura (10/5): Anniversary celebration - Lovely hotel, very clean. Staff very friendly. The room we had was very spacious. Bed wasn’t that comfy (but I like my home comforts). Plenty of different drink options left in the room including a bottle of water.

• Joanne Alice (10/5): LGBT friendly and so relaxing I extended my stay - Very disabled and lgbt friendly hotel and staff. Set in a building in a quiet part of Scarborough away from the noise and bustle of the main town. Building is Edwardian with Art Deco features. Staff were very friendly and respectful of my non binary and disabled status . Given a massive push room that was easy to use with my arthritis and bathroom was disabled friendly
