Guest Reviews
- 545randip (8/5): Nice stay at this Hotel - We had a great time staying at this Hotel for a week!
The Hotel was charming, great breakfast- polite and serviceminded staff!
Our room felt clean and new and was comfortable. We also used The garden for relax and a glass of nice wine in lovely weather.
- Lena (4/5): - Very simpel hotel with No checkin staf.
Paper at the door with info how to get in when you arrived at 7 pm. Ice cold room and very very simple. No people seen at all when arrived. Bed very poor. Good location in the city .
- Verified traveler (6/5): Einfaches, gut gelegenes Hotel - Sehr freundlicher Service, gutes Frühstück.
Mein Favorit in Epernay.
- annetteh311 (4/5): Excellent value in the centre of Epernay (dogs accepted too) - This budget hotel, is clean, in a wonderful location, with restaurants and the Avenue De Champagne very close by. Difficult to find free parking nearby (though we did eventually find some in the street behind Moet & Chandon). The bar/restaurant is very lively. It's popular with locals and the manager, a very cheerful guy, is drinking there with them most nights. Unfortunately our room didn't have curtains or a view, looking into the shaft over the bar, so ask if you can have a room with a view. Very welcoming to our dog.
- Annette (8/5): Oldish building, locals drink here (accepts dogs) - This hotel is really well-situated, among restaurants, close to the Avenue de Champagne. It is extremely popular with locals. At first, it seems a little old-fashioned, but has lots of modern features. It is extremely good value for money, as is the breakfast. I had a problem with slow wifi, but the manager sorted it immediately. Parking nearby is only free after 7pm and on Sundays.
- E (4/5): Didn't look like the pictures - The pictures of this hotel and its rooms are very misleading. We had a small room with an uncomfortable bed. It was very loud at night and not very clean. Parking is only free between 19 and 9 o clock. The only plus was that the shower was acceptable. Would not recommend staying here for this price.
- Lucas (8/5): Low cost option but you get what you pay for - For a relatively cheap hotel it was sufficient but just set your expectations. The hotel is in a convenient area but Epernay is pretty small anyway.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Center town - Staff of Hotel very nice, helped with luggage, steep steep stairs could be a problem, no elevator!
Room was clean, and tub-shower could us mat very slippery, and would not recommend for Senioy.
- Jaap (4/5): Hotel was closed - It started with the booking. I had booked a 3 persons room, foor the rate, but after a mail I had to pay € 10 extra for the extra bed????
Then by arrival the hotel had a sign that they where closed? After looking closly at the window I saw my name on a paper that said, you can enter the hotel by entering the last 4 digit of my mobilenumber......they key was in de room and if we wanted to have breakfast the next morning, we had to grab it...........So no staff...only a number in case of....but what if there was a problem......fire???
Then the bed.....it was bad, hard, the springs came through the matras.
Plus was that it was near the center, but the rest was disapointing.
and for last, be aware ther is only paid parking there ( an additionel €25)
- Stevie (8/5): Lovely spacious family room available - I'm not sure what some of the other people writing reviews are expecting from this hotel. It's a number of (cheap) bedrooms above a bar/restaurant in the center of town. And it was perfect if you just need a base to explore, let's face it, after 3 tours of Champagne houses, you don't need luxury, just a comfy bed and a pillow. The owners didn't speak much English....but were super cool and even managed to show us that we could park our car a 5-10 minute walk away for free. Didn't have breakfast, way too many amazing bakeries in the area!
- Kontoristen (4/5): Arrogance is not charming -not even in France - Good things first. The hotel was centrally located within walking distance from the railway station and the Avenue Champagne. The room (including the bathroom) was attractive looking and clean. It was on the second floor with no elevator, but a couple of youngsters were very helpful with the luggage upon arrival (though we were on our own at the departure). The breakfast was ok. But when the air con is not working and you are told to just open the window...and it is 36 degrees c outside...at bedtime...and the street is extremely noisy because of loud partying...that is serious disadvantage.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Better to avoid - Good location but that's about it. The hotel is run down, there were lots of broken things, including holes in the walls. Service is awful, we stayed 3 nights and no one changed the towels or cleaned the room throughout our stay.
- Robin (6/5): - Really nice staff who did all they could in making us comfortable allthough a big language barrier. Room smelled of cheap parfume and used beddressings.
- Nicolas (6/5): - Convenient to everything but the room I was in needed some upgrade.
- Lara (4/5): Very basic but good location. - Basic room but very central. Bed rather uncomfortable but ok for 1 night.
- eddiem116 (6/5): Disappointing - I stayed at the hotel Le Magellan in Paris and it was great. I assumed this may be the same chain and jumped at the opportunity to stay there. I admit, the location is good, walking distance to the train station and the Moet & Chandon winery. The room was clean and basic. But it is nothing like they show in the photos. My window overlooked a wall, the reception is a bar with a small messy side entrance. On the sidewalk there are tables where people were smoking and the smell carried on upstairs.
- KINGLOUISFR (6/5): Great Location and Value for Money in Epernay - Hotel Le Magellan is located in central Epernay, in the heart and center of town near banks, restaurants and everything else. You will be able to walk to the Champagne Houses from this Hotel and the Train Station, about a 15 minute short walk.
This hotel is a budget hotel, it has a great location, the rooms are clean and the bathrooms are clean.
It is very basic, it does not have any elevators, a simple TV in the room, a heater, Good for simple business stays.
I would recommend this hotel for budget travelers looking for a centrally located hotel in Epernay.
- Otto (8/5): Prijs kwaliteit - Top
- Thomas (2/5): Not as promised. - We went to the hotel and found out that the room was not as promised: a king size bed in stead of two single beds. When we were told that there was only one blanket available we left the hotel. This happened even though I both wrote and telephoned the hotel in advance to make sure tha we had two single beds available. Worst hotel experience in Champagne ever...
- Liz (8/5): great location - Central location, can easily walk everywhere you need to go. Quirky, basic but very clean rooms and bathrooms, great continental breakfast and friendly staff. Has its own restaurant/bar, serving good food. Great for the price.
- abenao18 (8/5): Few days for a conference - This hotel is small, our room was small like a typical French hotel haha the beds were very comfortable. Two small beds close together. I only found one charging port by the wardrobe opposite the room and the other free port was in the bathroom. Breakfast options was limited and you boil your own egg that was nice haha. The staff were so nice and helpful to help get taxi and give directions and city tips, always smiling and greeting you! The rooms were clean and cute. I loved my stay here!
- stephm842 (10/5): Great couple of nights in Epernay - The Magellan is in a fantastic location. Apart from being in the center of Épernay, it is the perfect base for touring the Champagne wine region. The hotel itself is a true 2 star hotel. That is not a bad thing. The room was bigger than typical French hotels of similar rankings. The bathroom/shower were spacious and comfortable. The only drawback would be if you are driving to the hotel, as parking is at a premium (as it should be is a congested town in Champagne). Plenty of local shopping/eating/drinking nearby (Tabac,Carrefour, wine tasting). There is a secure parking garage a block from the hotel for 15 euro per day....street parking is free on Sunday's! There is no elevator (we stayed on the 3rd floor) and when you check in you need to do so at the bar in the restaurant. Overall, if you are looking for a quirky, non-run of the mill place to stay, the Magellan is for you.
- koppel 40 ers (8/5): In centrum van Epernay - Basic hotel in centrum van Epernay. Heel propere kamer en badkamer. Vriendelijke ontvangst.
- Inga-Lill (6/5): Enkelt men trevligt - Hotellet fungerade utmärkt för våra behov: enkel övernattning
- 162loup (6/5): Ordinary in a place of elegance, - First up this is not a hotel. This is a hostel...must be a typo😁 Yes the owner is very nice and helpful. The air control in room 1 doesn't t work and judging from the cobwebs in the grill hasn't for sometime. The room is clean and does not smell and shower works fine! Do not get up before 8.00 am in this town, nobody else does.
The town is quaint and a must see for lovers of the fizzy stuff, plenty of tours and French country delicious food to be tried.bon voyage
- Jacob (8/5): Nice hotel - Very nice hotel - nice staff.
- Wendy (6/5): Eenvoudig hotel - Eenvoudig hotel. Wel schoon. Goede regendouche.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Not a place i would actually call a hotel, - Not a hotel. A homeless persons bed for the night is more accurate. Terrible place.
- Peter (8/5): Central Epernay, France - Stayed one night her with Christopher and his staff. Lovely people and very helpful. The rooms are smallish, but new and clean. The Hotel itself is situated in the centre of Epernay only 5 minutes walk from all the Champagne Houses and tasting venues. This is so convenient. Vehicle parking is not available at the Hotel but street parking is all around. Depending upon exactly which street you use, you may need to buy a parking ticket. The Hotel has a couple of bicycles you can hire.
Hotel staff speak good English and more than willing to assist those who are persevering with their French! We enjoyed our stay and would do so again.
- laurapercival (2/5): The worst hotel I have witnessed - This hotel is a huge disappointment, I urge people not to book here as you will be wasting your money. The photos of the rooms do not represent the standard you find on arrival. The front door was locked and all the lights in the entrance were off, it appeared to have closed down. When we finally managed to get inside our room was dark, small and had a terrible smell. As this was the final night of our trip abroad, we decided to abandon the hotel altogether and check into the nearby ibis (5* in comparison). I tried to return the room key to the manager/owner but he decided to lock himself in the bar and hide behind a computer, ignoring our calls and banging on the door. Awful customer service. Awful hotel. Never again.
- Stacey (4/5): Not a ringing endorsement - This is an odd place. It has something of a restaurant on the ground floor, but it seems mostly to be frequented with the staff's friends hanging out and drinking just outside the front door. Not terribly welcoming. We asked for sheets for the second bed in our room, but were told that would be an addition 10 euros per night. The staff was not terribly accommodating, although the first gentleman who greeted us was very nice. Everything was just so-so. Wouldn't particularly recommend.
- Whereissanne (6/5): Perfect location, basic hotel - Located in a pretty little street in the centre of Epernay and within walking distance of the champagne houses in Epernay.
The hotel itself is very basic with rooms that are a bit on the small side and a bar that doubles as hotel lobby and breakfast room but if you are not planning to spend much time in the hotel it's a good choice.
The owner is friendly, speaks some English and the price is very competitive.
- katy (8/5): Nice location. Great price. Funky hotel - Hotel is v central for Epernay being v close to the main squares. And 5 mins from Avenue du Champagne.
Staff were friendly. Rooms were boutique and decorated in a funky way. Very clean though.
Bed sheets were old and bobbly though that let it down. Plus bed sheets were brightly multi coloured. White sheets would be better as they look cleaner.
Excellent value for money.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Bof - bof.
- Charles (8/5): Good Hotel - Friendly clean and large room.
- iwishi (6/5): Basic Accomodation but great location - Its really central, ideal for the town exploring. There is no parking though the guys will tell you where to park free about 10 mins walk away. The sound really travels so can get noisy if the other guests aren't being considerate (weren't on our last night).
They have free wifi, its not brilliant but okay for looking stuff up.
The shower had to be held by hand no wall hook to hold it up.
Otherwise there isn't anything negative really, it is just a basic room and bed scenario.
Happy to answer any questions about it, Epernay and surrounding areas.
- Digidiverdeb (6/5): Noisy night! - Arrived just as the owner was shutting the doors, but he had left an access code to get in. Room was on the small side but nicely furnished with a well equipped bathroom. Great location to access Champagne Avenue on foot in minutes. The major issue for us and this could be a one off was the noise from a room or apartment above who seemed to be having a party which went on til gone 2 in the morning then seemed to settle in the room next door to us so not a restful nights sleep. Other than that it was an average hotel.
- Miri-hu (6/5): Good central location, with competitive price - Simple, but correct hotel in very good central location, with competitive price in Epernay. Nice choice if you didn't want to spend time in a room, just you want to sleep between two champagne tasting day. The owner helpful, and funny, the bar is very nice.
- The_Round_One (8/5): Great basic hotel above a bar - The rooms are above a bar (which is where you check in). You access the rooms by a corridor parallel to the bar and go up some concrete stairs. I got the impression it has been converted from a nightclub or similar. The hotel is decorated with a nautical theme. A thick rope on loops stands in for a handrail on the stairs. The rooms look recently refurbished, have laminate flooring and are clean, large, modern and comfortable. The bathroom is good with a powerful, roomy shower with instant hot water. My room had a small bar in it of the yo-ho-ho-and-a-bottle-of-rum style (not stocked, sadly). The walls are a bit thin, so you can hear other guests rattling around.
There is plenty of cheap parking on the streets nearby. The bar is located near a couple of little bar/restaurants (one closed at 8pm, the other serving the world's worst food). The area is quite busy with locals till about 8pm. After that the odd bit of noise from neighboring premises is adequately dealt with by closing the windows. There's air-con, so no problem there.
A decent little place for a stopover...it has more to offer than the rest of Epernay put together.
- tomi824 (8/5): excellent value for money - Recent renovations make this a nice, basic hotel in an excellent central position. Our double room was clean, comfortable and our dog was made welcome. The breakfast was traditional French for just a few euros. great for a short stay and very good value for money.
- Elksab (8/5): Nice and central small Hotel - A perfect small hotel in the center och Epernay. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
You have a lot of small street to park the car close to the Hotel.
The wifi works rely good.
Easy and good food int the resturang
- JoakimThulin (2/5): Disaster - The hallway is littered with trash, the room is dark, the air conditioner is not working, there are no staff to speak to. The whole place is in a state of decay. Avoid this place for now. The rating is way above actual standard and ought to be downgraded.
- 573fs (10/5): Very friendly owners - The owners could not have been more friendly. Bucket of ice for our bottle + glasses. Opened the bottle for us. Information on the city and local stores. Help with our bags.
Nice sized room. Clean. Parking nearby. Good wi-fi.
Basic but then again it was not too expensive. And it is 3 star, so what would you expect?
- TV59 (6/5): Good value.. No frills - We arrived and found that there was no one around. There was a sign that provided us with a code to access the building. We stayed in a 3 person room that was large and comfortable. The room was basic, clean and met our needs. There was a little tiny bar in the three person room. The hotel does not have a traditional lobby / reception set up. The staff are also employees of the attached cafe.
The hotel is centrally located and close to the Avenue de Champagne. Mercier is about a 10 minute walk, with many small tasting rooms on the walk there.
- Aptwo1 (10/5): Great place at the centre of Epernay - This is a lovely little hotel in the centre of Epernay. Friendly, helpful staff and a convenient location. Would highly recommend it. Epernay is a typical French town, if you really want to see Champagne you would need a car or to get on a tour.
