Guest Reviews
- Melyssa (8/5): - Hotel was clean inside. Outside needs cleaned up..
- Rosemary (8/5): - Very clean, owner very sweet, very helpful very small place, got the impression most of the rooms were rented to live ins. Not much breakfast. Cute small town. Very close to a train
- david (10/5): - We’ve never been at a place with so many people out in the parking lot, eating, riding bikes, smoking…… didn’t seem unsafe or dangerous, just a little unusual.
- Neil (2/5): - Vagrants living there.
- Patricia (6/5): - i thought would be in the lavendar house not a room. need darkening curtains. area seemed seedy.
- Opal (10/5): - Nice quiet place friendly staff
- Derek (10/5): - Great staff
- Dana (10/5): - Nice and cozy rooms, homey feel. Very quiet the whole night. It felt pretty secure despite the door being a little hard to open/close. It would be nice if they had blackout curtains to help keep some light out at night / extra privacy. The bed, blankets and pillows were very soft and comfortable. The shower was super strong and had great temperature too. Cold breakfast offered but they also had oatmeal and a toaster for bagels and muffins. Staff was very friendly and felt authentic. Very central location very walkable neighborhood. I would stay here again!
- Judy (10/5): - Cleanliness
- Deborah L (4/5): - They didn’t have my room ready because part of the staff didn’t show up. They said my room would be ready in half an hour and it was more like an hour. That was at 6 o’clock at night. The floors were dirty, and the bathroom was pretty dirty. The bathroom was old and decrepit. The flooring was dirty because I had cat hair sticking to the bottom of my shoes. The beds were clean and they were comfortable. I would not stay there again.
- antonia (10/5): Stay was clean and comfortable. Excellent staff - We enjoyed our stay!! Our 3 rooms were clean and comfortable! Wendy was especially kind and helpful!!
- Eva (10/5): - The people were extremely polite and helpful.
- Natalie (10/5): Great little Motel. Friendly, helpful Staff - The Staff were super friendly and helpful, especially Brenda and Kathy.
We liked the outdoor seating area.
The room had everything we needed. Our only observation was that some blackout curtains would be nice as the room stayed quite light even at night.
We loved this Motel though, convenient for restaurants, bars. Easy walk into the Main Street.
- Shelley (10/5): - Clean, staff helpful, felt safe walking in the evening. Wendy was helpful and prompt on returning calls.
- Larry (8/5): - Nice place to stay right in town so walkable to the main street.
- Donna (10/5): - NICE PLACE AND PEOPLE
- Brandon (10/5): - Love it
- Verified traveler (8/5): Satisfied - The room was satisfactory, not special, but all that is needed. The Inn people were very nice. My room was clean, the property was quiet.
- Denise (10/5): - Not a basic chain but a friendly privately owned place. A clean refreshingly friendly place. Glad I stayed there.
- Barbara (2/5): poor room - toilet seat was broke sink was very loose ready to fall
- DelmaLee (8/5): - Quaint older place with a down home feel. A little dated but clean. Staff friendly and pleasant. No breakfast available as advertised though. My bed was softer and springier than i prefer but clean.
- Deborah (6/5): Local Inn Close to Shops and Restaurants - Our room was not ready when we arrived and the hotel lobby was not available to sit down and relax. We walked around the corner to the local coffee shop. Hotel staff was friendly and the room was clean.
- Shaun (10/5): - The ladies at check in and in support were awesome, super nice.
The room was clean, the shower hot, the bed comfy.
What more does anyone need for the price.
- Bryan (10/5): - Everyone at the property was fantastic and I would highly recommended for a weekend stay.
- Chett (6/5): - Fantastic staff who provide personal service!
- Jess (8/5): - Quaint. Easy.
- Judy (8/5): Friendly staff, Clean, Comfy and Convenient - The staff here is always friendly and accommodating. I love this little inn. My room is clean and comfy and the place is a convenient walk to the downtown coffee shop, restaurants and WVWesleyan College.
- Deborah (10/5): Charming Inn -
Charming Inn in the downtown area of Buckhannon. We met the owner and she gave us several options for nearby dining. The rooms are individually decorated and full of character. Breakfast included with our stay was delicious with biscuits and gravy and other options. We wished it was warm enough to enjoy the seasonally themed patio area. We hope to book again in the future.
- Greg (10/5): - Very kind and hospitable people. Breakfast was great.
- Loren (10/5): would do it again - A very pleasant experience,Thank you
- Gary (10/5): - Great experience, friendly staff, older rooms, but very clean and tidy would definitely stay again if in the area
- Tom (10/5): - This inn is historic , and we loved the lavender color of the original inn. It was clean, quiet, and pleasant. It was somewhat dated, but a good value and the staff were super friendly. The included continental breakfast was also good. We will stay there again if in the area.
- Kenneth (10/5): Enjoyable - What a quiet place. It was neat and clean with kind and friendly people. Adorable place to stay and if we ever have to come back again we’ll be back .
- Brian (8/5): - Staff was very friendly, my room was clean, its an older building but charming and friendly, easy access to dining and shopping
- Amber (2/5): Frustrated? - There was no one at the front desk to check in and the lobby was locked... leaving my children and myself without a place to stay for the night.
- Kelley (10/5): Great property! - My room was super clean and the decor was pretty. The staff was friendly and the area had nearby restaurants within walking distance.
- Marc (10/5): - This motel was so charming! Absolutely spotlessly clean, comfortable bed, very nice sheets and bedding, delicious breakfast. My favorite motel I’ve stayed at in a long time.
- Judy (8/5): Lovely, clean and convenient. - This place is adorable, convenient and the staff are friendly and extremely helpful. We loved how easy it was to walk to the coffee shop, antique shops and more. Plus the breakfast was included and the biscuits were HUGE! We have already rebooked. Thank you for a great visit!
- Sofia (10/5): - Great place, quiet, close to Main street and the college.
- julia (10/5): - Friendly helpful staff who went out if their way. Quiet and clean. Easy parking
- Louis (10/5): - Staff were super friendly and incredibly helpful. Cannot say enough good things about them! Will definitely stay at the Baxa again.
- Laura (8/5): - Just back from a weekend in Buckhannon with a nice stay at The Baxa. We were in town for a memorial service and the hotel where most folks were staying was full - but so glad we discovered this charming purple place as it was quiet, comfortable, and retro in a good way! Lovely breakfast nook with warm biscuits and gravy available among other offerings. Super sweet and helpful proprietors and staff too - they have and continue to work hard sprucing up the historic main building plus cute row of traditional motel rooms behind it. Thanks for your hospitality!
- Jonathan (4/5): - Staff and continental breakfast were both great. Quaint older place. Hallway to room smelled of smoke. Broken glass on bathroom floor. Room door jammed and was next to impossible to lock.
- laurawL3762EY (8/5): Nice Stay - thank you! - Just back from a weekend in Buckhannon with a nice stay at The Baxa. - Mark Allyn (2/5): - Room had bed bugs, checked out immediately and went somewhere else.
- Ashley (10/5): - Very pleased with our stay! The room was great and clean! The staff were all very friendly. Breakfast was delicious and I would definitely stay here any time I’m in the area!
- Carolyn (2/5): - This property was not what I expected at all. It was a very small unit in a row of outside units off a parking lot in a very small town in a very isolated area. It was not safe for my daughter and I to stay there as the dead bolt did not even work. Also being on the ground floor with two windows was also unsettling. It seemed clean but just old and unsafe. Once I paid and got the room I literally just left the key on the bed, locked and shut the door and left. I lost $96 but I couldn’t wait to get out of them. I would have gone back to the main building but it was closed and the man had left the property. It reminded me of Bates Motel…not good.
- william (6/5): - Over Priced, no breakfast, not even coffee. Very friendly and kind woman checked us in, but it was down hill from there. The coffee shop on Main Street had lousy coffee, don’t go there. 48 years since I graduated, and this was my first time back in town. What a bummer
- Linda (8/5): - Very friendly, nice folks
- cpnegrad (10/5): liked everything about the place - it was very clean, very friendly hosts, 1 block from the Main Street of town. It is not a chain; if you like predicability and uniformity, then go to a chain. I don't know why trip advisor demands 200 words. I have said it all.
- Sara (10/5): Loved it! - Loved this little motel! Very clean, staff were super friendly, & location was perfect!! Will definitely be back again. ****
- Randal (4/5): - Made reservation, arrived with
- john (8/5): Great hotel - We really enjoyed the hotel and would certainly stay again. Very clean and quiet. Almost like a bed and breakfast. Right in downtown. Walkable.
- michael (10/5): - Super cozy and friendly staff. Room was clean and nice. Hotel was within walking distance of restaurants and bars. Would definitely recommend.
- Jessica (10/5): Will stay again! - Comfy beds, hot water, & very clean rooms. They even have little goldfish crackers and bottled waters in the room, that they do not charge for. Nice little place to stay.
- Kenneth (6/5): - Office was locked upon arrival. Had to call and was told I had no reservation (after confirming online.). No hot water, warm only after minutes of running. Room was clean. Television service poor.
- HometownGal (10/5): - We felt welcomed. Our stay was warm and inviting!
- AmandaJ (10/5): - Fantastic service, friendly, prompt and courtous. Very clean room, 10/10 would recommend.
- ED (8/5): - I liked this hotel no extra thrills. It was clean and walking distance from the old downtown. There is some nice restaurants and bars. I are twice at Maggie's and liked the atmosphere.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Property attendant was very pleasant and welcoming.
- Aaron (10/5): - I loved our stay. Quaint and very hospitable. I would gladly stay again. My only recommendation is small coffee pots in the rooms. Other than that, it was a lovely stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The owner was so welcoming and inviting and went out of her way to make sure we were taken care of, the heater in the 1st room didnt work so she quickly moved us to another room and kept checking on us!
- S1510XVkathyc (8/5): Quirky little motel with great owners! - We stayed for 2 nights and really enjoyed our stay. The owners are on site and have many fun stories to tell. They are in the process of remodeling the motel. The room was small but comfortable. Reminded us of days gone by when our family gathered at our grandmothers motel for visits. The lobby area has been remodeled and brightened up with white and beautiful wall coverings. They are only 1 block from the main street of town where are the little shops and restaurants are located. Don't miss out on their 4 days of parades for the Strawberry festival. Sorry we couldn't stay for that. We enjoyed this little town being central to other small towns that we wanted to visit. The owners have been in the area for many years and are very knowledgeable about the area. This is not the Hilton, and you will not find the charm of a small town Motel/Hotel at the Hilton. We loved it. Ben and Kathy, New Orleans, LA
- EpcotPhil (4/5): Good town for a motorcycle stopover. Hotel? Not so great. - Buckhannon has a couple good restaurants in walking distance. But the Baxa has seen better days. It’s an old house with a motel unit in the rear.
Good: a covered canopy doubled as motorcycle parking for the seven bikes we had.
Bad: pricey for a place with some un-AC’s rooms, loose sinks, slow hot water, peeling paint, and some questionable fellow guests!
We look for cheap places and this one certainly *is*. But a little lower on the comfort scale than we prefer.
- Y6152WLbrucel (8/5): Clean rooms, friendly staff, excellent value. - My room towards the back of the property did not get wifi reception, but everything else was fine.
My review must be 200 characters? That's moronic. My review must be 200 characters? That's moronic. My review must be 200 characters? That's moronic.
- Y9917DPdavidb (6/5): Baxa Needs To Improve - I stayed at the Baxa Motel (as has been my practice annually for many years) for the 2018 West Virginia United Methodist Annual Conference. While the accommodations are quite satisfactory, the amenities leave a lot to be desired. The remote controls for the rooms are (for the most part) not functional. The desk clerk had to go searching through a box of remotes to find ones that worked for the TVs in several guests' rooms. The reason I knew this was because I continually had to sit in the motel lobby to get a signal for my smartphone - which is my second complaint, that the signal in the motel rooms are abysmal.
I also didn't appreciate them jacking up the room rates for the week of the Conference. (If anything, they should have reduced the rates for the attendees who have continually used their accommodations over the years.)
I think I may have to look elsewhere for accommodations next year. I rate the Baxa 3 out of 5 stars overall.
- clns0426 (10/5): Clean rooms - Great place to stay. Rooms are all on the ground floor.
Walk to main st. restaurants antique stores. Town has an old city charm. Home to Wesleyan college. Stay here when you visit the students. There are other places to stay but I like the small town feel!
- Chipster937 (8/5): Stay In The 50's - Had a nice stay at the Baxa Inn owned by Samuel L. Baxa who checked us in upon our arrival. The room was comfortable with very nice amenities: Microwave, Black & Decker refrigerator with separate freezer, Coffee Maker, HD flat screen TV with "Clean Remote", King-size bed, hair dryer, A/C around the corner from the bed so it didn't blow directly on you, luggage & clothes rack in addition to chest of drawers & nightstand, WiFi, extra towels & soaps, mints and a storm door with a screen. The place is immaculate and quiet! Sam is very engaging and eager to fix any problem. The bathroom is very 50's with the tile and bathroom fixtures. There's also a medicine cabinet above the sink! The bathroom door does need re-plumbing because it doesn't close completely & the shower needs a very firm handle turn to shut off the water. Be careful! No waiting on hot water. I did request a fitted sheet for the King bed which aren't currently available. Reasonable rates with senior discounts available. Located around the corner from Main Street with plenty of food & drink options within walking distance.
- joanp2025 (10/5): Cozy - I have stayed at the Baxa Inn many times over the past 20 years and have found the quality to remain the same each time we were there. The owner put a lot of effort in keeping the Inn updated to high standards and current styles without losing the comfort and coziness. When we visit Buckhannon we look forward to staying at the Baxa Inn.
- 935keithr (10/5): Good Value - A nice place to stay right in the middle of town. Room had a refrigerator with a top freezer. Also had a microwave. A/C worked very well. Did not hear any noise all night from any of the other rooms. The shower was hot and had plenty of water pressure.
- ToreyH8 (10/5): fantastic!!!! - We were a little worried about this place before we got here but the baxa inn is awesome. Simple, but super clean and a great value for your money (the cheapest in town from what I could find). Would definitely stay here again any time.
All the staff were friendly, helpful, and just generally seemed to be great people.
- andyb0b77 (2/5): Disgusting Dive - This place is so shady and disgusting. Dirty sheets, bugs and smells like animal pee. I can not believe this place is even allowed to be open. I made the mistake of renting for a weekend and will never come back. I felt like I needed a shower just walking in the place. The little guy at the service counter was snippy and rude...I just recommend a better place than this.
- kena540 (10/5): Great hotel experience - The BAXA is a great affordable place to stay. The staff is great and make you feel how important you are to stay there. The rooms are very clean. I recomend this hotel to anyone travelling to or through Buckhannon, WV. I know I will stay there again.
- glenr20152016 (10/5): very Quaint - very well kept Sam was a terrific host very quant place
will return, close to downtown a lot to offer good price and atmosphere was terrific also, a little dated but clean as a pin restaurants near a lot to choice from
- 935keithr (10/5): Outstanding Hotel - We arrived at the Baxa Inn about 5:30 a.m. and rang the bell which woke up the owner to wait on us. He was very nice and completely professional even though we had just woke him up. When we got to the room we were amazed and thrilled with how nice everything was and how clean the room was. We only stayed one night but we were comfortable enough to have stayed the week. If I ever need to stay in Buckhannon again I will definitely pick the Baxa Inn to stay at. They treated us just like family and I can't remember when I enjoyed a hotel stay so much. Keith R.
- k8_rn (8/5): Weekend away with family, good hotel. - Been here numerous times due to family attending WVWC nearby and it's always been nice. It's not a chain hotel, but we've never had a problem. Cheap and clean. There's no pool or restaurant or anything here, but there's numerous places to walk to without having to drive. The staff was very friendly and helped us when out when we were having some technology problems with the room. Would recommend this to travelers that are looking to stay at a local place.
- 745grannys (8/5): Changes seem to be happening at this motel, not all good - We needed a room for one night. I'd stayed at the Baxa before and liked it very much--it's very clean, the rooms have everything you need for a comfortable stay, and the owner even sent me a handwritten thank you note for staying there! Unique for sure. This time, I sensed a change in the air. First, when I called the lady told me I had the wrong number, then apologized and asked if I could call back. Odd, but maybe she was really busy. Then when I asked for a reservation, she offered me a room but didn't ask for my name! I gave it to her anyway but that whole call made me uneasy. When we arrived there were 6-10 male workers in the parking lot who were staying at the motel. They were just hanging out, talking, a little noisy. The lady at the desk told me the owner had passed away a year before, and I wondered if he'd have allowed the group in the parking lot. Our room was fine, clean and comfortable. In the morning when I went to check out the woman clerk was sitting on the patio outside the office with a man who was drinking beer--at 8:00 in the morning. I came away worried that the quality of this favorite place to stay was slipping away. Our stay was fine although prices have gone up recently. Given the kind of people hanging around there, I'm just not sure I'd want to stay again.
- OnTheRoadAgain45 (6/5): Baxa Hotel Review - I have stayed at this hotel many times over the past 20 years. However, I recently discovered that "guaranteed" room means absolutely nothing to them. We made a reservation for the weekend of May 8 and 9, 2015 back iin February, 2015. We got a call two days before we were to check in that they had to "cancel" our reservation because they were going to let someone else stay there! We made many attempts to find another hotel to stay - hotels/motels were booked solid for 30 miles around - "graduation weekend" was what we were told. I discovered two things: "guaranteed" means absolutely nothing, and customer loyalty means nothing. My suggestion - be very careful in booking with them. Their rates are good - and it's a clean place to stay- but, don't be surprised to find yourself with a canceled room upon arrival, and at best, two days before you arrive! If staying with them is a MUST - then, make sure that you have a backup somewhere else - because, quite frankly, you may very well need it.
Another thing that has bothered us for some time, but we put up with it - they offer "free" wifi - and it may be free...but, we have never successfully connected, and technology is my field.
- Undercard333 (8/5): Agreeable management - The staff was so easy to talk to and actually listened to what I had to say. They seemed to genuinely care about me as a person, not just a customer or guest. Also I got well informed information about the local restaurants and shops. Most if which are in walking distance.
- kathrynm702 (8/5): Very surprised - I was pleasantly surprised with this motel. I usually stay as far away from motels as I prefer hotels. This was the only availability so I had no choice. The room was clean, the bed was comfy and it was quiet. I was expecting a rowdy crowd and noise all night. There was none of that. I slept better last night than I have since my vacation started 3 weeks ago. The tv worked, it had a microwave and fridge and the bathroom had everything I needed. The staff was extremely friendly and I will definitely stay there again, if I am in the area. The only thing I missed was breakfast that you typically see in hotels. But that alone was not a big deal. I love this motel.
