• Frederick (6/5): - I have stayed in this Hotel a number of times and never had any complaints. But on this stay the evening dinner was on a four day rota and the main course was not very good. Breakfast time the replenishment of empty dishes was slow. Overall the Hotel has gone down since last year.

• Jim (6/5): - The property is an old hotel with a history of being a Victorian spa. Parts of the hotel are run down, however the room was spacious and clean. Beautiful scenery. We arrived a little early so our room was not ready - this was fine. The receptionist was rather officious and not particularly welcoming. We were asked to complete a hard copy form for our check-in details which was fine but we were not given a key to our room, so we could sit in the reception area (spacious and comfortable) in readiness to go to our room when ready. The receptionist never called us when the room was in fact ready. We were fortunate to ask a the desk to enquire about our room just as a large coach load of guests arrived. Had we not done so we would have had to wait until the coach load were checked in! The hotel was great but the check-in was not efficient or welcoming.

• Lindsey (2/5): Terrible - We booked this hotel for our anniversary stop on our 2 week long trip across Scotland. We got there and there was 4 tour buses of people, which is nobodys fault. We finally get to our room and it was NOT what was pictured. Mold on the shower head, bathroom light, all around the shower. Stained carpet, dated furniture. The smallest tv I've ever seen. Uncomfortable bed. You could see the hallway light all around the door so there was zero sound proofing. I'm not sure if the tour groups got the rooms like the ones pictured, but I was so disappointed.
• gavin (4/5): - The room should have been serviced on the 2nd day of our stay but was missed. When brought to their attention, only a small part of what should have been done was done. The hotel was servicing many coach loads of people with too few staff.
• Raymond (2/5): Not what was expected - The photos dont correspond to the conditions of the hotel. Everything was quite old and decrepit. The floors in the hallways were skew, the room has a unpleasant smell , and the ceiling had quite severe water damage. The sheets also were stained. Though the breakfast was quite pleasant and staff were kind. Overall, mediocre at best.

• Verified traveler (4/5): Subpar experience, requires modernising. - The building itself and the surrounding area is stunning, however the room I booked looked nothing like it did in the pictures. The room was disproportionally large, it created a feeling of coldness and the lighting in the bedroom and bathroom gave the room a very clinical feel. The bathroom itself was extremely dated, and again felt very clinical. The service from the staff was subpar with the exception of a younger man who was working on reception at night, he was extremely friendly. This is a hotel with strict rules, the bar shuts early, the pool table is unavailable later in the evening and the door is locked at 1am. The management of this hotel should consider modernising both the rooms and overall guest experience, if not, the prices should be lowered. This is a two star experience in the opinion of someone who regularly books hotels.

• Margaret (8/5): - Oh dear catalogue of catastrophes. Room not finished. Food was appalling undercooked or overcooked only 3 choices for dinner. No red meat. Breakfast bacon was half cooked. Coffee lukewarm. Need to work harder to attract the right clientele.
• Anselm (6/5): - Personnel lacked commitment. Breakfast fast was borderline, empty trays were not filled up when there was plenty of breakfast-time to go. We booked a premium room which was a good size and newly refurbished. Mattress was new and firm as required. Bed size could have been a little larger. Nice bed cover. Adequate free parking facilities. Lift more than dated.

• Deborah (8/5): Lovely hotel - This was a lovely out of the way hotel with a large room and bathroom. Our stay was very comfortable. We did not have breakfast in the morning so can not comment on the food
• Dan (6/5): No hot water but nice enough hotel. - Nice old hotel, bright and airy. Room was ok, nice and large and comfy bed. Only stayed for 1 night during a road trip. There was no hot water in the morning from any tap so both unable to shower and the tv wouldnt work without being connected to the internet which it refused to do. The excuse of a power cut overnight meant there was no hot water and that all the internet connections has disconnected. No refund or discount offered, just a lame apology which i dont feel was good enough considering we had been driving for 10 hours and a hot shower would have been appreciated.
• Verified traveler (6/5): - Pros: super sweet staff. Very welcoming and friendly. Location was very pretty. Close to a lot of things. Cons: water stopped working morning we left. Beds were pretty rough—lots of springs and you could feel them. Walls were thin—could hear the neighbors watching movies and talking.

While I realize they’re working on building a new car park, parking for guests was a concern. Air conditioning would be nice. It was really warm in our room

Given same menu as coach party which was mediocre. Breakfast was cold. Bed clean and comfortable but not even a chair to sit on. Will not re-visit.

Windows unfortunately only partly opened - not ideal during our summer visit. Limited restaurant menu but other restaurants within walking distance. Bathroom a bit musty but the room was clean. Car parking very limited, priority seems to be coach tours. Overall good, would stay again, but not the best value for money at the price we paid.

• Vijeth (6/5): Stay was good for a one night sunny weekend. - The stay was for one night, check-in was smooth. We had booked family room 1 double bed and 1 single bed. But we got 3 single beds. The little was not happy sleeping alone and kept falling of the bed as there were no barriers. Spring beds are very uncomfortable. The room was spacious and old mansion kind. Single glazing windows.

• Robyn (6/5): Room could have been better but over all okay - Over all the stay was fine on entering the hotel it is lovely but once we got to the first floor and then to our room it went down hill from there. Its a bit outdated and the room is in need of a massive over haul to freshing it up, as the paintwork was all marked on all walls and the shower head was mouldy. Plus side the bed was comfortably and room was clean apart from the marked walls and mouldy shower head The room was very hot but the receptionist was happy to supply us with a fan which did help. Was rudely woken in the morning with the fire alarm going off ( no emergency) at 8am so we got up and just left to head home.

• John (8/5): - I’ve had multiple stays here and it’s clean, welcoming and quiet, with good parking and comfortable rooms. Dining available onsite or nearby. Tour buses call in the summer but visitors are mainly elderly and calm. There’s sometimes hoochter-teuchtar or country and western music on in the foyer in the evening but if that’s not your thing, you can retreat to the quiet of your room or have a peaceful stroll in the village. Reasonably priced.
• Jayne (4/5): - With a very grand facade, this is a beautiful building in a lovely location. Handy for an overnighter on our way to catch the ferry to Ullapool the next morning. The staff were also great. However, our room was awful. We had a laugh about it as it was only for a night, but it was pretty grim. The walls were absolutely filthy, the window frame black with mould, the bathroom, while actually looking quite new and having all the mod cons, appeared neglected with the tiles in the shower showing signs of mould and the showerhead needing a good clean. The hairdryer was a real relic! As I say, fine for a night but don't expect anything more than you would find in a hostel. Also, to mention - the walls are paper thin. Could hear the people talking in the next room until about 4 in the morning. Could do with some serious investment and upgrading (even a lick of paint!) and it would be AMAZING! (Breakfast was good.)
• Joseph (10/5): - Such a beautiful and unique hotel with a lot of charm and history. Staff are very friendly and helpful. The town of Strathpeffer is beautiful, quaint and peaceful. I am so glad I stayed here rather than in a bigger city like Inverness. Some of the interiors are a bit outdated, so if you are looking for something super modern and high tech, this may not be for you.
• Todd (6/5): - Staff were amazing and made the stay a plus, especially the food and beverage manager. Room was clean, but a few draw backs were the tv which was the size of a computer screen and the one tiny window about 1 foot in width that only opened 3 inches was a negative. Was a little warm and dark because of this. If you get this type of room consider asking for an upgrade. Breakfast was a bargain and definately worth it. Had a concern that for some reason, the wifi in this hotel wouldn't allow us to us LGBTQ apps which made us feel they were blocked which made us wonder if the community and or owner are extremely conservative which made us feel uncomfortable. Apps worked in every other part of town and all over Scotland except the hotel wifi.
• Lisa (6/5): - Staff not as helpful or friendly as other hotels we stayed in during our trip to Scotland. When I notified the front desk that we had no TV remote in our room their response to correct the issue was none existent. The only elevator was not working during our stay which made moving luggage difficult to the second floor. Not many food options to choose from in the small town center.
• John (8/5): Highlander - A very good mid-range hotel with adequate parking, comfortable, quiet rooms and friendly, helpful staff. If looking for an evening meal, book ahead. There are busloads of visitors at this time of year, and management seem to have difficulty fitting in one extra traveller at teatime.
• Gary (10/5): - We found it to be quite charming and relaxing. The only negative is their restaurant can't handle the number of guests the hotel can accommodate. We had to walk down the street and pick up Chinese food. That made the experience less than perfect
• Stefanie (8/5): - The hotel had a nice atmosphere and friendly staff, although everybody seemed overwhelmed with a local event that night. We stayed for 2 nights, and it would have been nice if room service had cleaned up our overflowing waste bin as well as some used plates and glasses after the first night. The building itself needed some work in the upper floors. We looked over a rotting terrace/roof to the terrace on the ground floor. The carpet in our room needed replacement. But the room and bathroom were clean and spacious. I would likely stay there again.
• Jodi (10/5): - Although the hotel is old it is well kept…only issue was the walls were very thin and both nights I had a loud snoring person next door that kept me awake.
• Verified traveler (4/5): Not worth the money - Hotel is very dated although the bedroom was ok. The lift only worked when it felt like it. The staff were few and far between and juggling different jobs. I asked if they were short staffed and was told it was like that all the time. The menu and food was the worst. Breakfast was a buffet which wasn't restocked when it ran out. Plates were a mystery. My husband had to have his food on a side plate, making several trips and the man at the next table had his porridge on a side plate because that was all that was available. Dinner menu was very limited and the food was very badly presented and poor quality. Definitely not value for money

• Patricia (6/5): Almost good - Room was a bit of a mixture. New furniture and a comfortable clean bed. However it could really do with a paint and the window frames were dirty and peeling. Bathroom could have been cleaner and there was dirty soap left on the shower tray. Shour had no curtain or screen when we arrived although we eventually got on on our second day .Used pillow in the wardrobe so we had to ask for a clean pillow slip. The staff were lovely and the breakfast was good. A little investment in cleaning and paint would make all the difference

• steve (10/5): Enjoyed our stay - The hotel is grand and getting on in years now. For instance the lift is ancient/quaint. However the room was very clean and comfortable. The hotel appeared to cater for a number of large coach parties so if you came down for breakfast at the wrong time the dining room was mobbed and you sometimes had to wait for some items. The staff were very pleasant and hard working and on occasion trying to keep up with the rush. Having said that overall we really enjoyed our stay. The hotel/Strathpeffer is very well situated for access to both the east and west coasts of the NC500 which is why we spend 2 nights here on the way out and one on the way back. A short drive to (maybe) see the dolphins at Chanonry Point and just 10 minutes to the Rogie Falls in the other direction.

Wasn’t the biggest room but was lovely. Lovely little town. Didn’t have breakfast this time. Will definitely be back. Staff friendly.

Breakfast was especially bad food and drink items were running out and not replaced young staff were taking one plate at a time to kitchen when there were dirty tables everywhere. Staff just seemd uninterested. One exeption was reception who was very good. Whole hotel a bit tired
• Verified traveler (4/5): Highland Fawlty Towers - What was once a grand hotel in its hey-day, it is now very tired, e.g. peeling paint, water stains on bedroom ceiling, etc. Very limited menu selection for evening meal, but food was the hotel's only saving grace. Everything else, sadly, had a Fawlty Towers vibe to it. The hotel needs a lot of investment and a complete overhaul of its staff training programme.

• Callum (10/5): - Beautiful old hotel. I arrived to a beautiful old hotel lodge lobby. It’s lined with fantastic old pinewood panelled walls. The staircase was also quite nice to look at. The staff were very friendly and parking was easy. My room was clean, nice and warm. Good hot water pressure, comfortable bed and it was quiet at night. I used the Highland Hotel as a base to drive around the Upper Highlands for a few days. Definitely a great pick. I didn’t eat or drink at the Hotel, but the bar looked good with plenty of comfortable places to sit. I had a nice stay. 👍

• Marcin (4/5): - Building itself looks very nice but definitely needs upgrades. First thing we've noticed was old single glazed windows without possibility to lock them. Cups was dirty with hair inside and spoons in the room looks like someone licked and left them on the table. Another thing is tiny radiators in such a big room. There is not a chance to heat the room with them. We needed to ask for additional heater which have been provided (small oil electric heater) but didn't make much difference as we woke up with ice on the window inside the room. Restaurant food... Well not much choice but dinner wasn't bad but breakfast... Don't know where to start. Barely few guests in there yet food lukewarm, dirty jugs, hairs on the food, coffee jugs empty and the guy who seems to be responsible for all the food served looks like he couldn't be less bothered. Only good thing in this place is attitude of receptionists. Both of them was really helpfull. Do we come back? Not.
• Julie (4/5): - We were given a pokey little room, (really small not enough seats) not as advertised on the website. The bathroom was from the 1970s, there was no TV,the telephone was unplugged. When we plugged it in it still didn’t work. The room smelled of mothballs with old fashioned furniture. As the phone didn’t work My husband had to go down to reception to complain about the lack of a TV. He was given another room key so we moved. This room was bigger and more modern with an updated bathroom. Although more up to date , some of the furniture was worn out- 2 chairs especially were totally worn out on the seat /back. To top it all, when we put the TV on, the reception was soo bad we could only get to watch 1 channel as every other channel froze/pixelated!

• Paul (8/5): Highland stay - Nice stay very comfortable though could do with a revamp a bit expensive for what we got
• John (8/5): Happy Highlander - Comfortable and convenient. Dining options within are limited, but other options are available. Special mention for Murray, the night porter, who dealt very efficiently and effectively with a crowd of exceptionally noisy and unruly Chinese students whom were partying into the early hours. Top marks Murray !

• Donna (2/5): - Just stayed for one night, room was freezing had to ask for a heater, right next to a squeaky hall door which opened every 20 minutes, mould all around the bath. The receptionist was lovely but needs updated window sills were crumbling.
• Richard (6/5): Faded splendour undergoing transformation. - The hotel's position overlooking the spa and its gardens is fabulous, and the public rooms present a beautiful Victorian ambience. Despite a restricted evening menu, the dining room served superb food, and the staff provided excellent service. This was a very positive aspect of my stay. When one arrives late during the weekend, car parking problems arise, as I experienced last Saturday when all regular parking spaces were occupied. This forced me to park on a grass verge within the premises. On the negative side, the central heating in the allocated room did not work, so the hotel manager switched rooms for me. Further, as an arthritic 84-year-old with a bed that was as hard as a rock to sleep on, the experience was most uncomfortable. However, I understand the hotel is undergoing a comprehensive upgrade. I am confident that the result will be excellent and the Highland Hotel will return to its former glory.

• gillian (10/5): - Lovely overnight stay. Used a lot for coach trips. Really large room and great breakfast.
• Linda (10/5): - Dinner was lovely, 7ntil the very loud tour group arrived. Otherwise, it was a lovely, old hotel.
• John Michael (10/5): - Reception staff friendly. Downstairs area was large with plenty of seating. Room was a disappointment. Kettle not working, cups and spoons only rinsed, still had tea stains. Towels had holes. Mildew around taps, fittings and shower head. Toilet not properly cleaned and light pull cord filthy. Top and bottom of bathroom bin dusty and dirty. Curtain linings were ripped and lampshade trimming coming off.
• Robert (6/5): Not the best - Old hotel in need of tender loving care.hair in the bath. Blood stains on the bed. Grossly Overpriced.
