• Sally (8/5): Great location, friendly staff - Have visited this hotel on and off for many years. It has a fabulous position and the building has character. The staff are friendly, cheerful and helpful. Loved the view from our room. The current owners are clearly refurbishing in stages, progress has been made but there's more to do! Staff are great but at times more of them would be helpful! No option of bar snacks or sandwiches available during the day.

• Margaret (5/5): Portpatrick is lovely, the Hotel is not what it once was. - The hotel view is amazing on top of the hill, we had a executive room which was good with great views. We had stayed at the hotel five times, we knew the building was old and some say it needs updating but we liked it until this time. the restaurant was more like a works dining hall, laid in rows instead of separate tables,we did not like dogs in the restaurant as there was a separate room for them, will we stay there again no.

• Leslie (3/5): - It is a lovely building in a fantastic setting The building and fittings are tired and desperately in need of tlc they advertise as free parking but we were charged. We prebooked breakfast and on the first morning they had run out of orange juice and scrambled egg. Fried food had been sat in the heat tray for far too long. Staff were very polite but not always easy to find. The room was very poor with a badly designed bathroom eg towel rail over the toilet. They had steel brackets screwed to the wall and windows to prevent it being opened and the curtains were covered in mould

• Claire (10/5): A perfect stay - Room was clean and comfortable. Staff were excellent and the breakfast was delicious. The games lounge and bar were nice to relax in. The bathroom is a bit noisy when the fan is on and running water.

Restaurant staff were friendly and helpful at dinner and breakfast The BIG issue is the bed which was the most uncomfortable we have tried to sleep in and certainly not worthy of a Superior room.

• Griff (8/5): Portpatrick what a place - Location was stunning. Front of house staff were amazing, the young lady on reception when we arrived was very professional and welcoming. Room was dated and could do with updating. Window in room was screwed shut so couldn't open for ventilation. Not the cleanest room on arrival either.
• June (5/5): We had to be moved room as sewage or dirt coming out taps in bath this was at 930 at night got moved to a room for that - The staff and location Rooms all needing upgraded very tired looking and in our first room window was screwed shut so couldnt open it dont know if thats allowed or not

• Alistair Armour (5/5): - Very helpful and friendly receptionist when we checked in on Friday afternoon. Nice room with a view over the village and harbour. Hotel is in a great location overlooking the village. Breakfast on Saturday was a bit disappointing as when we arrived around 9:30 there wasn't much cooked items available and had to request cups and spoons. Sunday was even worse, no bread available for toasting, it hadn't been taken out of the freezer the previous night and constantly having to chase up the staff for items.

• Mhairi (9/5): Lovely relaxing stay - We booked the superior sea view room. Even though it is an old hotel, it is being upgraded really nicely. Room and communal areas were spotless, lovely lounge area to sit in, stunning views and reception staff were so friendly and helpful, despite doing two and three jobs each. Was such a relaxing two night stay with beautiful coastal walks and easy access to harbour. Restaurant was a bit clumsy - service a bit slow and not very coordinated and food was average ( not sure if this was due to the reduced all inclusive menu)

The toilet roll holder was on the other side of the room from the toilet. No fresh air, window fixed shut. Television appalling.

Lounge is a relaxing place to chill and take in the scenery with a lovely hot latte from staff - perfect Tea and coffee facilities in room were plentiful so never ran out. Bed and pillows clean and comfortable, I had really good sleep there. Bathroom towels nice quality Enjoyed fresh meals there and chef so accomodating with specific requests. Dinner was lovely

• STEVEN (7/5): Lovely staff , clean room but lack of anti slip bath mat and broken ribs ruined my stay - The staff are very friendly, polite and helpful I slipped in the bath stepping in for a shower and broke my ribs just to be handed an anti slip mat the day after , surely these mats should be handed out as you check in

Staff were lovely especially paige and olivia who couldn't have been more helpful. Evening meals were basic and limited. Pur executive room was flooded so put in a twin but 2 single beds pushed together of diff levels were a bit uncomfortable.

• Rachel (8/5): A pleasant stay in this great location. - The location is fantastic, it's great to be in such a historic local building, and the views were stunning. It's sad to see the exterior and some interior looking so tired and in need of a spruce up but I'm aware that that would cost an awful lot of money to update. The decor in the bedroom and restaurant is tasteful and the 4 poster bed is a great touch. Breakfast was decent. The service was excellent through and through. The staff are all so friendly and happy to help with anything. It was tricky to get hot water going in the sink and shower but apart from that, everything was great.

• Daniel (8/5): Wow - Amazing view, fantastic room and pleasant people. And as a foreigner, the Scottish accent is very pleasing to listen to The dinner and breakfast were good, but basic. Dont expect too much of it.
• bryan (8/5): Two night stay. - Friendly staff, generous food portions, good sized room and our view. Cramped en-suite, window's and French door not working properly as mechanisms so corroded they were rendered useless. Main window held shut by the handle hooking over a bottle cork screwed to the window sill. Floor at French door felt very soft and unsafe. This was classed and priced as a superior room, but for me didn't rate that classification. The view was very good though.

• Houston (2/5): Apart from some of the staff, it was a huge disappointment to say the least. - Some of the serving staff were great, but others need work. Apart from the views the best thing about the hotel Were do I start, rooms are grubby and dated, with non existent housekeeping during the stay. Windows single glazed, rotten and dirty dead insects on the bathroom windowsill, required towels to be used to stop the drafts coming through them, and rattled all night and kept us awake. No curtain or blind in bathroom, so could be seen in the bathroom from the car park. Curtains in the room ragged. Towel rail worked intermittently and extractor fan didn’t work at all, with switch for it on the ceiling. No sockets near bed to charge phone for alarm . Towels not changed an left damp , bed unmade, bins not emptied. Overall grubby room with dirty sockets and switches. Lift was tiny and very dirty. Breakfast was extra with cooked food being lukewarm and plates cold and damp needing dried with a napkin before use. Most the staff young and require more training but on the whole pleasant and the only saving grace of the hotel.

The room was spotless with good tea/coffee facilities and the beds were very comfortable we would definitely stay here again. I was very happy with our stay if I HAD to pick fault the window was a bit drafty but the room temp was great so not much of an issue.

• Karen (6/5): I was looking forward to staying for the first time as I am frequently at Portpatrick but the room was disappointing for - Lovely views, foyer and dining room etc all nicely decorated I know it’s an older hotel, but the room wallpaper was splitting and the walls had effervescence the hand wash dispenser was empty of soap and we had to go inside shower cubicle to dispense soap to wash hands, couldn’t open windows they were screwed shut, very low on staff numbers, the staff were overworked I felt, you had to wait on everything, same person serving drinks, then came to check you in, although the staff were very good, just overworked, parking very confusing, when you drive in you think you are being charged, signs everywhere saying parking charges, then you key in your reg to get free parking and sign a form to give you 24 hr free this should be made clear on booking and the arrival signs
• Elizabeth (6/5): Staff were lovely, amazing views - the views are amazing, however the windows need updating, though, it appears that some of the rooms have been upgraded. Would also be good to have water in the room there was not enough variety in the bar, this is the third visit that we have been that this has been an issue, not sure if this was due to the date of our visit this time

• Moyra (9/5): - Room was excellent and lication is perfect. Breakfast was very good and the breakfast waiter was very helpful and polite. Stains on the carpet in the bedroom.
• mich31 (10/5): Great return visit. - This was our 4th visit after staying in November last we were a bit worried as we did not enjoy the food and the service was poor but we love the location of the hotel. We always book the same room so our dog has access straight onto the grass on arrivial our room had been moved as the bed was broken, all the other rooms were taken so I asked if we could have an apartment as this is in the same location this was accommodated by the receptionist. We had booked direct again so got the 2 course dinner bed and breakfast with parking. The food was a huge improvement on our last visit nothing fancy but was really nice and the service staff were really good this time. We didn’t have much wait the same was at breakfast, if you like the continental option it is quite basic but we just have the hot options and the full English was lovely and tasted good quality. The rooms do need a good clean we found a few things but to be fair for what we paid and how good the staff are I would not knock any points off for it

• Margaret (2/5): - The view from the hotel Reception staff were lovely people Hotel is tired and dated, 1st room allocated was freezing cold and smelled badly of dogs, i had to be moved to another room which then had no view, i paid for breakfast each morning which was not good either,so much so I only went down once.
• Dream11081202024 (4/5): What a disappointment! - Hotel looks tired and dated, was given room number 2 initially which had a patio door leading outside with a great view of the harbour,paid extra for this, it does say the hotel is dog friendly but my room really smelled badly of dog and was freezing cold, receptionist was very helpful getting me another room on 1st floor with heating,but no view im afraid. Went to the bar for a coffee and drink, no coffee beans in machine! Paid for breakfast during stay, not great im afraid,again no fresh coffee, only sachets of instant coffee. Paid for 3 nights, decided to leave on morning of day 2,didnt bother about breakfast,just wanted away, really disappointing visit, always loved how this hotel looked from the harbour,what a let down.!

• Noon (6/5): - The location was spot on, the staff were doing their best and where brilliant,the food was top notch room wasclean It's needs some money spending on it, new windows for a start and paint on the outside a freshen up and it's was a bit confusing working out the room heating and lights by the bed

• David (4/5): Our second visit here, but after the first one - hugely disappointing - Location was spectacular, as was the view. The bedroom (113) was spacious and contained all we needed. Wallpaper in the dining room was beautiful, Youthful staff did their best. Strong winds made the hotel cold. Hot water took ages to reach our bathroom. Windows were old and dirty. The vast dining room was austere; plasticky tables (no mats), the atmosphere of a motorway service cafe. First bedroom offered had a faulty cistern from which water gushed non-stop, but there was no weekend maintenance cover to deal with it. Breakfast was basic; with tea bags and coffee sachets and an urn of hot water the source of beverages. Dinner was also basic and reminiscent of motorway cafe selections. Today's Special was the same as the previous day's, on the third day there was no special. Choice of wines was extremely limited, most draught beers were off. I appreciate that mid-March is the off-season, and the hotel was not busy, but our overall impression is one of neglect and penny-pinching.

• Mclellan (5/5): - Views from the hotel were amazing Beds need to be replaced very uncomfortable mattress lumpy in parts. Woke up numerous times during the night with a spring digging into my side. We booked 2 rooms and my friends bed was no better than mine.

• A658QBruthk (6/5): PortPatrick Hotel update - Following on from a previous review by JK. Now that we were able to address our concerns with the manager (she is lovely), we are satisfied that she will look into everything & sort issues out. The location is superb. The rooms and all areas were very clean.
• kinnaird (8/5): - Nice location lovely old hotel. The parking charge which i questioned and was let off. I understand they trying to increase revenue but whoever came up with this idea needs sacked.
• jimkU6645AX (6/5): The Portpatrick Hotel - Location is fantastic. The room Fri and Sat was fine until the wind started the old sash windows were more like a sieve. The staff on Fri/Sat were brilliant, attentive couldn't do enough for you. Sunday, bar staff where the hell have they disappeared to again? They're not here now as I write this. Food wise again Fri and Sat great Sunday evening meal hardly edible. The views however are spectacular.

• Debbie (4/5): - The view from the hotel was beautiful. Our room overlooked the harbour and the sea. Location was great. The breakfast was really good. The room had cobwebs all over the ceiling. The heater was falling off the wall and the window did not shut properly that ment there was a draft and alot of noise from the wind so we never slept well.
• david (8/5): Overall a good stay and we will return - We had a downstairs room with a view overlooking the harbour and sea. The staff went above and beyond as the heating system had broken down and they had to move dinner service into the lounge area which was much smaller than the dining room. The breakfast was good and cooked to order with adequate choice of hot food and cereals and fruit juice. As we were on a dinner bed and breakfast deal the dinner menu was limited but okay for the 3 nights we were there but not a huge choice. Drinks were reasonably priced at the bar for a hotel. Overall a good stay. They should reconsider the parking charges as this wasnt in place the last time we were here . A lot of people were not happy with this. Also check out time of 10am is ridiculous in this day and age as most hotels usually make it at least 11am!
• Alana (6/5): Good for an overnight stay for somewhere to sleep as good money. Wouldn’t be idea for romantic getaway and staying a few - Lovely staff, rooms nice and clean. Could do with the windows being cleaned is the only thing. Breakfast wasn’t very good. Fried egg was rock solid and looked like it had been chucked in the fryers. Same as tattie scone, possibly deep fried then microwave to heat up. Fruit bowl fruit was all brown and yoghurts weren’t in a fridge. Shower was connected to taps and couldn’t get right temperature to have a shower so just did without. No soap in my brothers room either but he had a proper shower.
