Guest Reviews
- wtomaiolo (10/5): Lovely hotel!!! - Lovely, comfortable hotel! The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. Although next time, I would request an odd-numbered room, so I don't hear the train noise at night. I would definitely stay here again.
- laurarG4398JY (10/5): Perfect respite for a calm, relaxing stay! - Absolutely wonderful stay at the beautiful hotel on the edge of old town in Cary. Everyone we encountered were friendly, polite, professional, and welcoming, and the rooms were quiet, clean, comfortable, providing a wonderful respite in the middle of a busy and Mother’s Day weekend. Could not recommend this hotel more for a visit to the area!
- Camper549178 (10/5): The Mayton . . I will be back! - I participated in a business event here and it was my first time experiencing The Mayton. Loved it! Everything about the hotel felt comfortable and cozy. From the lobby to my room to the restaurant with its terrace to the meeting space to the staff . . . superb! I will be back to enjoy the hotel and town in the future!
- daletH8296UL (10/5): Lovely anniversary staycation - Had a lovely anniversary staycation at The Mayton. Lovely room. Great cocktail bar and a very good brunch. Cary is a cute town and worth a visit
- kiararuth (8/5): A Refined Stay at The Mayton Inn: Charm, Comfort, and Quiet Details - A stay at The Mayton Inn feels, at first glance, like stepping into a carefully curated tableau equal parts Southern charm and polished nostalgia. My family and I recently checked in for an overnight stay, arriving with fond memories from a previous visit. While we noted the absence of an electric vehicle charging station this time around, the initial disappointment quickly softened as we made our way inside.
Entering through a side door, we were immediately enveloped in an atmosphere reminiscent of a Ralph Lauren Home showroom warm hues, layered textures, and an unmistakable sense of intentionality. Two fireplaces, positioned in quiet conversation with one another, anchored the space and created an inviting setting for guests to gather. Just beyond, Peck & Plume hinted at the culinary experience to come, building anticipation for the evening ahead.
Check-in was seamless, led by a front desk attendant whose warmth set the tone for the stay. The lobby itself struck a delicate balance quaint yet refined, with the comforting familiarity of a well-loved home. Complimentary parking is available on-site, though it requires a quick registration process before displaying a pass in your vehicle.
Upstairs, the second-floor corridors are lined with thoughtfully selected artwork, guiding guests to their rooms. Ours, a corner suite, offered gentle natural light and a pleasant view overlooking the nearby park and neighboring restaurant. A small but notable detail: the inclusion of white noise in the room, a subtle yet intentional touch for a more restful night’s sleep.
The room itself, however, leaned toward simplicity. While clean and functional, it lacked the layered character found in the hotel’s common spaces. The absence of a headboard and minimal decorative elements left the sleeping and living areas feeling slightly under-designed. That said, the bathroom was a standout bright, fresh, and beautifully appointed.
One of the more charming offerings of the property is its complimentary bicycles, which we happily took advantage of. Though a bit worn and in need of maintenance, they added a playful and memorable element to the stay. Notably absent were spa services, which had been available in previous years.
In the end, The Mayton Inn delivers as a cozy, character-driven retreat—ideal for a relaxed staycation or a quiet weekend away. It may not overwhelm with grandeur, but its warmth and charm leave a lasting impression.
- Seaside11596580340 (10/5): A great get-a-way - Absolutely beautiful hotel with quite a few shops and eateries near by. The staff were fabulous! The rooms were spacious and clean. This is a hidden gem in Cary. We will definitely be returning.
- E2124MZkristink (6/5): Disappointing - 1. The guest room was freezing and wouldn’t adjust.
2. Champagne and fruit plate I ordered was not in our room when we arrived. They had no record of it, but I had a confirmation email. The surprise was ruined.
3. The Easter brunch was WAY overpriced. At $69 per person, it should have at least included one breakfast cocktail per person and some premium foods. dessert was just OK.
4. The Tickets we received for two free drinks at the bar expired just hours after we got them, but no one told us.
- A3554CUthomasb (8/5): nice place and would go back again sometime, this was my third stay there. - our room was nice but lacked a few amenities like a couch and table, room was very spacious and could use more furniture in my opinion.
- janlA1314DS (10/5): Fabulous boutique hotel & restaurant in downtown Cary that you should check out! - Fabulous boutique hotel in downtown Cary. The amenities are wonderful. The restaurant, Peck & Plume, is first rate! The hotel provides permits for convenient city parking (free.) The hotels showcases local art on the walls on all levels of the hotel. I recommend that you check it out the next time you are in Cary, NC!
- andriam964 (10/5): Go for business/stay for fun - Didn't even know this place existed until I arrived for a work trip - hotel vibe was a perfect backdrop for our meeting. Would book again!
- Mary (9/5): -
- 139merrittk (10/5): Beautiful Retreat - We stayed for a night because we were in town for our son’s sporting event. The hotel is beautiful, beds are so comfortable and the service is excellent. The town is lovely .
- Angela (9/5): -
- 691pattyv (10/5): Love Boutique Hotels? Add this one to your list! - The room was spacious with high ceilings. Loved the design of the shower and bathroom. The design of the hotel is beautiful and the artwork throughout the hallways makes a huge difference in the atmosphere. The Peck and Plume restaurant was also a treat although I only had breakfast there but enjoyed the omelet!
Housekeeping was perfect every day and the location allowed me to visit the downtown park which is also amazingly designed with catwalk walkways and a beautiful amphitheater at which would be a treat to catch a show or concert.
- kyingst07 (8/5): First time stay - Lovely hotel with wonderful staff. I loved the vibe of the Mayton and would stay again however parking was very hard. Drove around the block many times until found a spot on the street.
- cmaynardatl (10/5): Fabulous get away location! - Great location but the restaurant food is even better. No wait it’s the staff! Overall a fantastic winter get away experience!!
- johnU6171XN (8/5): Don’t bring a car. - All good to excellent except for no designated parking. So, it’s ‘go find your own.’ Not so great in the cold and rain. And no airplay or chromecast on TVs. So no streaming from your devices. All else good.
- 426cats (10/5): Stellar Place in Cary - Scrumptious food, excellent service, beautiful room, wonderful mattress - what else can I say? We had a blast! This is a stellar place to stay in Cary!
- Lisa (10/5): -
- 6074seattle (10/5): Lovely stay - My sister and I met here for the weekend. This is a lovely hotel with such comfortable beds, beautiful decor, and kind staff. Couldn't be nicer.
- kcdemby (10/5): Wonderful experience! - Beautiful facility. Tasteful decor. Friendly, helpful staff. The pancakes in their restaurant were the best I've ever tasted. Highly recommend. Difficulty controlling temperature.
- paulbY1375MM (2/5): Watch your reservation, especially if you are handicapped! - A friend of the family indicated a couple months prior to a wedding that they were staying there in this hotel, so my brother's family, my sister, and I booked rooms at this hotel as well. We did not realize until arrival that this hotel had cancelled their handicap room reservation a few days prior to their arrival, seemingly because this hotel had gotten a longer stay from another handicap guest. The handicap couple had to scramble to find another hotel with a handicap room on a few days' notice. So, this hotel got three other double rooms booked because of them, but yet they despicably cancelled the handicapped couple's reservation. We were all there for a family wedding, and so now everyone knows to avoid booking rooms at this hotel. It's a shame that upper management of this hotel has to behave this way.
- B4897SZkarend (10/5): Amazing experience! - Beautiful hotel. Amazing staff. Best pancakes I've ever had in their restaurant. Highly recommend. Our only issue was difficulty in regulating the temperature in our room.
- MatthewSnee (10/5): Small, Boutique Hotel in Cary - Beautiful property in the heart of downtown Cary with wonderful amenities, helpful staff and just a terrific atmosphere.
- WBO521 (6/5): Friendly and welcoming... but lacking "extra touches" for this price point - We spent two nights at The Mayton for an anniversary getaway. The staff were all exceptionally friendly and helpful and the rooms were very quiet for being located in the heart of downtown Cary. We were a bit disappointed in the rooms and lack of extra amenities for this price point. The rooms were lacking some decor, like decorative pillows and blankets, and the usual extra perks one often finds in this type of boutique hotel, such as a nice coffee/tea bar or welcoming treats.
- Juan (10/5): Was in town for Christmas, the hotel was elegant, the staff was very accommodating. - The restaurant was amazing. The entire vibe and decor was stunning. They have the most comfortable pillows ever. Not really a complaint however you really need to make reservations for the restaurant
- Sunshine67842200486 (2/5): Bad experience - Cool room no body soap and even do issues where brought up to the front desk the issue was not resolved. Also the property is very old and in need of some repairs. Finally Restaurant was close for breakfast on Christmas Day
- IrenicusSK (10/5): Pearl of Cary - Such a wonderful place to stay with amazing staff and an outstanding restaurant serving curated drinks and delicious meals!
- saraffarley (10/5): Amazing, festive stay! - My wife and I stayed at the Mayton to celebrate her birthday. I’ve always loved the Mayton, especially during the holidays. This time was no different. The hotel was decked out in festive decorations and guests were full of holiday cheer. All of this was the cherry on top of what was a most wonderful stay with the most comfortable accommodations and the nicest staff!! We will be back!
- N4465OSlees (10/5): December in Cary at The Mayton, Lee S. - Simply incredible. There's no need to leave the hotel, but there's plenty to enjoy within a very short walk. The room was very nice, the artwork everywhere was a nice touch and the staff and amenities were excellent.
- stephenmI5106AM (10/5): Great experience! - Awesome boutique hotel! Great staff! Beautiful surroundings, well appointed, true 4-star hotel. Definitely will return!
- George (7/5): At best a 3 star hotel. - The location was excellent. The staff was attentive and polite. The bed was very comfortable. This was not a 4 star experience. There was no valet service or many dedicated parking spots. There was no turn down service.
- billem63 (2/5): Don’t stay sundays! - Limited facilities Sunday. Restaurant and bar closed. On site parking limited and full. Parking impossible downtown
- William (1/5): False advertising.cant “sip and savor” on Sundays - Location Hotel should have been clear up front about limited facilities sundays. Restaurant and bar closed. Parking full and impossible to park downtown.
- acombs (10/5): Anniversary trip to Cary - Wonderful hotel . Friendly staff. Great location to a beautiful downtown park and many wonderful restaurants. The food and service at restaurant were also great. All the staff we encountered were friendly and very helpful. Will definitely be returning
- D5818KPmichellee (10/5): Charming elegance - Quaint location,Beautiful hotel, excellent food and great staff. It was a relaxing stay with a beautiful park and restaurants in walking distance.
- N7945HUjm (10/5): Quaint and cozy - Downtown carey is a quaint cozy location across from park and down from art building. Currently Christmas decorations are being placed inside and outside establishment. Upon a 16-17 of November stay. Room 303 is cozy and authentic feeling of Academy rd. Room has a distinct attic feeling rather than the other exterior rooms that are straight walls.
- feldcats (10/5): Beautiful boutique Hotel - This beautiful boutique hotel is located in downtown Cary and it’s convenient to all downtown attractions. The hallways are filled with beautiful art from local artists, the rooms are cozy, clean and comfortable. The menu at the restaurant offers several seasonal vegetarian dishes, as well as traditional meat and fish options, and the servers are some of the friendliest and nicest people you will ever interact with. Definitely my favorite place to stay in Cary!
- Compass707764 (10/5): Great accomodations, Great location, Great hospitality! - Great accomodations, Great location, Great hospitality! You won't find a friendlier, more helpful staff anywhere. We have had our sales meeting here for 3 years in a row and we will continue to come here for years to come.
- N6338TMjudyd (4/5): Not a good experience. - There was an event going on that blocked all street around hotel. A gentleman called a couple of days earlier and told us to call when we got there and someone would tell us how to get in to park. When we called, the woman at the front desk couldn't help us and suggested we park at some library and walk back with our luggage. Luckily, the police at the baracade saw the handicap placard on my care and let us through to park. If we had known about the event ahead of time, we would have found another hotel.
When we finally got to our room, the bathtub was broken. It wouldn't hold water. While the maintenance was prompt, he couldn't fix it and had to call the engineer who replaced the stopper. Both very nice and trying hard to fix it, but all in all, it took over an hour. For the high price of the room, the bathtub shouldn't have been broken. Bottom line, between the unhelpfulness of the front desk and the broken tub, the $450+ for the room wasn't worth it.
- perkinbob (10/5): Great stay in Cary - Really nice hotel located in central Cary. Easy walking distance to events in the area. Nice grand hotel Easy to recommend to others
- Sergio (9/5): - The staff was extremely accommodating and polite.
- Togahoopster (10/5): My first time to Cary. - The staff and accommodations are first-rate! Beautiful park next door and friendly folks all about! And, the History Museum at the Walker Hotel was outstanding.
- H6965VBsamanthab (10/5): Always love The Mayton! - This is my 3rd time staying here for business travel, I really love this hotel. It's clean, charming and very comfortable. I love that the location is walkable to restaurants and coffee shops, it's such a clean and pretty area. The staff is so friendly and accommodating. I will stay here for all my business travel to the Cary/Raleigh area.
- T7936RXdavidn (10/5): Perfect quiet getaway - Busy trip that took us all over NC in just a few days included a work conference and family wedding - but a Sunday stay in Cary at the Mayton topped off the experience and made it even more memorable. Beautiful room friendly staff and in a perfect location - just wish we’d had more time there to explore. Sunday was pretty quiet in town so I was at first a little disappointed - but it turned out to be just what we needed! We look forward to coming back one day soon!
- virginiagparker (10/5): Rehearsal Dinner at the Mayton - Perfect! - The Mayton Inn did a fabulous job with my son's rehearsal dinner! Andi - our event planner - was so attentive to every detail and responded quickly to my scores of questions. The food was delicious (thank you Chef!), the service prompt, polite and well managed and the venue was just spectacular. Highly recommend!
- kimcG4235GJ (10/5): Review of The Mayton - The location was great and also felt very safe. The Mayton has an excellent atmosphere, amazing customer service and was very clean! I highly recommend staying there.
- PAUL (10/5): - Good
- T2316FMnaomib (10/5): Luxurious stay in quaint town of Cary, NC - Beautiful hotel and amenities. Great space for a team meeting and the town is so cute, although I did not have much time to enjoy. Very comfortable room.
- Y6992IDgregoryh (10/5): Quite possibly the friendliest - Quite possibly the friendliest, helpful and considerate staff I’ve run into when traveling. Thank you Dana and Abdel for helping to make our stay so nice. You are true professionals in hospitality.
- Duymovic (8/5): Nice hotel in a great location. - Breakfast was very good but pricey. The location was excellent. We were able to walk to everything we needed. It's a beautiful hotel with great staff! The only complaint we really have is that we couldn't control the thermostat and the noisy air conditioning ran all night keeping us awake because of the noise and it blowing directly on us.
- Ladiesmom (10/5): A treat of a hotel! - A truly lovely hotel in adorable downtown Cary. Much needed in the Raleigh area. Beautifully situated, beautifully appointed.
- 801zanl (10/5): Art begets Art - stayed overnight for the NC Silver Arts competition, loved the updates on the Mayton. Beautiful hotel with lots of peaceful spaces to relax.
- jmQ8846QQ (10/5): Out-of-state Travel for Business, Meeting Room Rental/Catering - Our group traveled from out of state to hold a three-day Strategic Planning Workshop for our organization's leaders. We had 13 members from varying departments who participated. The Mayton was our "home base," as our group toured various economic developments within the Town of Cary and had full schedules with business meetings. The Mayton's location was perfect for our visit to the Town of Cary. On the final day of our trip, we used The Mayton's Meeting Space to debrief and collaborate with a local facilitator. The room was well equipped with everything needed, from technology to catered breakfast and lunch. The Mayton was a delight to work with throughout the entire process, from the very early planning stages, finalizing details before arrival, to welcoming our team and closing out the bill. They happily assisted in coordinating with various vendors, and their attention to detail, quick response, and well-informed staff made planning from out of state seamless. I can only imagine how, if one is planning locally, the attention they must give their clients in person during the planning stages would be extraordinary. I would like to thank Lindsey Norwood, Director of Sales and Catering, and Dana Abdel for providing our group with executive-level customer service and care. We would highly recommend The Mayton over and over again, not only for their beautiful property, deliciously catered food served in their business-friendly meeting spaces, and restful rooms, but also because of the professionalism and commitment to hospitality that Lindsay and Dana show our team.
- Caige (8/5): Good Stay in Downtown Cary - Very friendly staff who goes above and beyond, great walkable location right in the middle of downtown Cary. The rooms themselves feel slightly unfinished in terms of furnishings, but they are always clean and spacious. Some rooms can get a bit noisy at night if the bar is open, but the rooms come equipped with built in sound machines which was really useful to dull the outside noise. Overall, we would stay again!
- Storyteller590678 (10/5): Fantastic stay in Cary, NC - The Mayton is a marvelous hotel in so many ways. I was in Cary for the Rock Your World charity event and the hotel hosted the fundraiser. The hotel is in downtown Cary and walking distance to restaurants, coffee shops and a lovely park that adults and children enjoy.
The Mayton has a lovely bar, with a seating area with comfy sofas and chairs and the restaurant serves delicious food. The staff is so friendly and welcoming, Southern Charm at its best.
- stormjett (8/5): Wish there were more like this - All good. Location downtown, pleasant front desk, clean and comfortable room. Plus a few extras like robes, comfortable lobby with water, local art, and good soaps. The in house restaurant is not a destination restaurant but is nice for a bite to eat without going out. Much better than the ordinary corporate hotels
- johnsT138XS (10/5): Superb Experience - Fantastic hotel, beautifully appointed room, friendly, knowledgeable staff. The restaurant, Peck & Plume, was exquisite with great ambiance and food.
Overall a very nice experience.
- Deb8365 (10/5): Incredible Experience! - Everything about this hotel screams royalty. From the hotel staff to the rooms. The location is perfect as you can walk everywhere in town and the incredible park is right behind the hotel. The Staff is the friendliest I have encountered in all my travels - and that is saying a lot. Wish I could give this a rating of 10 Stars.
- Debbie (10/5): Really enjoyed - Excellent accommodations Parking 🤔
- pammR1902JM (2/5): Worst hotel - Completlely dissapointed from start to finish.
Upon arrival no Bellman, no welcome information . It was like being in a ghost hotel. No employees and the person at the desk was clearly brand new and had no information that was accuarate such as the offereings and times of the hotel restaurant. The suite had nothing that said Welcome to the Mayton such as a working air conditioner , bedding for the additional pull out, wine opener, working keys to the room. The list goes on and on. They pride themselves on being a boutique hotel when you call to reserve however the very basics were not available at this hotel.
- Annie (7/5): -
- awP3509ZX (2/5): Careful with your belongings - A watch went missing from a bag in my room during my stay. No one but myself and housekeeping was in the room. I noticed when I returned and the front desk just said "nothing is in lost and found."
- Thomas (10/5): Amazing Hotel in an Amazing Town! - Dana at the front desk was lovely. Thomas was more than helpful with an overview of the area and the hotel. Room was spacious. Beds were comfortable. The overall area of Cary was a pleasure. Could do without the train horn...
- churchillb2023 (10/5): Wonderful Experience - The Mayton is a first class hotel. The staff are extremely friendly and very welcoming. The location in downtown Cary is excellent. I will definitely be back
- Donna (10/5): Will gladly go back, sweet hotel. - So sweet, loved the hotel. The prices were a tad high
- Sabastian (10/5): Gorgeous Hotel, Enviable Location - The location of the hotel couldn't be better. Just adjacent to the park and truly in the center of Downtown Cary, which is extremely walkable and full of gems - check out the breweries, local theater, or great restaurants. Using the wall space within the hotel's lobbies and walkways to display local artists' work was a fantastically homey touch. The room was comfortable, spacious, and tastefully designed. If you're an architecture person, you'll enjoy the structure itself with its Greek Revival/Georgian style. If you're a bar patron like myself, be aware that their bar is going to be slammed during the weekend lunch hour. Nothing a little patience can't overcome.
- P8373ZKmaggiea (10/5): Great hotel near RDU airport. - Very nice hotel - Lots of local artworks on display and for sale throughout the hotel - -Peck and Plume was wonderful for both dinner and breakfast - we will return!
- rossettiv323 (10/5): Charming hotel - Great hotel in the heart of Downtown Cary. We’ve staved here a few times while driving to / from Disney World. It’s close to Fenton Plaza and a beautiful playground. Highly recommend!
- Vincent (10/5): - This is our second time staying here.... Wonderful place to stay.. Loving the southern charm
- Meredith (10/5): Wonderful ! - I was a little worried about parking. But, complimentary parking was available across the street, not a parking garage like I first read. The room and bed was comfortable! Peck and Plume restaurant was excellent, which was located downstairs. We grabbed the Mayton Burger for dinner on their outside dining. The new State of The Art Park in Cary is a minute walk, perfect for families!!!!!
- Stacy (10/5): - Excellent property, open spaces, restaurant and bar. Front desk knew us by name and was fabulous
- Marjory (10/5): - Perfect place to stay in Cary- nearby wonderful restaurants and shopping and an amazing open-park.

- patrickgN8597NX (2/5): Call or don’t - I’ll leave it to see if I actually get contacted with my complaints. Bell hop needs some training. Maybe get rid of the roaches?!
- jdA883UM (8/5): Great stay but alarm bells were ringing! - Very comfortable room and bed, nice and cool in very hot weather, immaculately clean room and hotel, great front desk staff (Paul) and restaurant wait staff…unfortunately (and hopefully a rare anomaly) we were awoken early next morning after our overnight stay by a fire alarms throughout the building and had to exit in our PJs waiting outside for a while in the heat, limited breakfast options (e.g. no hot brunch that we were looking forward to) due to issues in kitchen or with oven that caused the alarm? Still would recommend staying here with excellent staff, location and service and attempts to make our stay extra special.
- Jessup (10/5): Exceptional - Love the location. My AC would not cool the room.

- adenasyfrett (10/5): Wonderful weekend getaway - We had the best experience at the Mayton! The whole hotel felt luxurious and charming. My husband and I went for anniversary weekend getaway, and it was just perfect. The food at Peck and Plume was delicious, and our room was beautiful and relaxing. I loved all the blues and greens. The bed was soft and comfortable; it was like sleeping in a cozy cloud. It was definitely a wonderful treat to celebrate our anniversary.
- Sophia (10/5): It was a little pricey compared to hotels but it was worth it. I had a 5 month old so the white noise in the room was am - White noise option, clean, friendly staff, cute rooms, and such a perfect location!
- 720craig (10/5): I would highly recommend The Mayton - The Mayton is highly recommended-be it a sales meeting or a weekend getaway. The room was very comfortable and offered the comforts of home. The front desk staff were amazing. I didn't check in until 7 AM after taking a red eye and I was greeted with a very friendly welcome to the Mayton. She even knew me by name.
- dsK6288PJ (10/5): Unexpected top-notch experience - Immaculate property and the friendliest, most helpful staff. Top-notch experience, and a pleasant surprise as I was in town for business and hadn't set high expectations.
A local colleague recommended the property, which is always a plus. I look forward to returning.
- brittanygJ7720BN (10/5): Definitely recommend! - An inviting hotel as you enter the lobby. Best customer service and friendliest staff! Our room was very clean, softest blanket, very comfortable bed, and even a bulit-in white noise speaker if needed! Safe, quiet, and convenient location. We had no issues at all during our stay and would love to stay again!

- jodigN3100MR (10/5): A must visit! - This cozy inn is out of a movie! Cary is a lovely little town and nestled in the trees you'll find this in. We got a superior room and had a corner which provided a panoramic view of the park. It was so pretty that even at night we left the blinds open to fall asleep to the lights in the park. The staff was welcoming, especially Lindsey! The bed was so comfortable. I slept so well! The attached restaurant was also very good. We enjoyed sitting on the porch watching people come a go.
- thomas (10/5): - Staff at front desk very helpful

- 439carylb (10/5): A Weekend at The Mayton Inn - Our stay at the Mayton was wonderful. We couldn’t believe the soft sheets on the bed….slept like babies. We had breakfast on Saturday morning and our server Logan was so nice to talk to. Our dinner that night at Peck and Plume was delicious and Savannah took the time to take our picture even though the place was busy.
The best part was Dina at the front desk. Via telephone, she helped sort out any confusion I had about our schedule.
A great trip to a city we hadn’t been back to in ten years. What a park!

- G7115YDlarak (2/5): Deeply Disappointing Experience – Treated Like an Inconvenience, Not a Guest - I had high hopes for my first stay at The Mayton, having heard great things about this boutique hotel. I was coming off a difficult week without running water at home due to a major plumbing issue, and I was really looking forward to a night of rest and recovery. I booked a Junior King Suite for $1,100, specifically because it was advertised as having a bathtub—I just wanted a hot bath, a long shower, and to unwind with room service.
When I arrived, I was told that the suite I had booked did not have a bathtub. The front desk associate was very polite and helpful and explained that only two of their Junior Suites actually include bathtubs. He kindly offered to cancel my reservation or move me to a regular King Room (which was priced at $700). I chose the King Room and moved my bags.
When I returned to the desk to hand back the suite key and ask about the $400 difference, I was told I’d need to speak with the manager.
As I waited, I watched the manager cheerfully assisting another guest—offering her a bottle of wine, extra wine glasses, and engaging in warm, enthusiastic conversation. But when she turned to me, her attitude changed completely. She abruptly stated that the system wouldn’t allow her to refund the difference.
I calmly explained that I had booked the suite specifically for the bathtub, and since it wasn’t available, I had been moved to a lower-category room. She responded by rolling her eyes and saying, “Well, I can put you back in the suite since that’s what you’re paying for.”
I turned to the associate and asked if we could just cancel altogether, as he had originally offered. The manager then snapped at him, saying in a condescending tone, “You offered to cancel the reservation for a full refund?” Clearly annoyed that he had done so. He confirmed, and she finally processed the refund—but not without another eye roll and a loud sigh.
After that, I had to go upstairs again, grab my luggage, return the key, and pack up to head home—still without running water, and now feeling completely defeated.
By that point, I was so overwhelmed that I had been crying, but I composed myself to return the key. No one apologized. No one acknowledged how poorly I had been treated.
And just when I thought it was over—as I walked away from the desk in the wrong direction, the manager called across the lobby, “The door is that way,” adding another layer of embarrassment to an already miserable experience.
I couldn’t shake the feeling that I was being judged—maybe because of how I looked (jeans, t-shirt, hair in a clip after days without a proper shower), or maybe because of my age. But the manager’s tone, body language, and outright dismissiveness made me feel like I didn’t belong there and that she took pleasure in making sure I knew it.
I sincerely hope The Mayton reviews their front desk security footage, because if they do, they’ll see that everything I’ve described here is accurate.
This was meant to be a relaxing break after a tough week. Instead, I left feeling humiliated, disrespected, and in tears.
While the front desk associate was kind and professional, the manager’s attitude completely ruined my stay. I would not recommend The Mayton unless and until they address how their management treats paying guests—especially those simply asking to be treated fairly.
- rhondag8 (10/5): The Mayton-Gem in Cary, NC - It is a beautiful hotel, tucked in Cary, NC. Everything, the location, service, staff, rooms and food were exceptional. I was there for business and I would recommend it for business meetings, a wonderful stay, getaway, celebration or for a wonderful place to dine.
- cblatl (10/5): Looking forward to our next stay! - Warm, welcoming staff, great location next to large public park and farmers’ market, and lovely venue. If you’re a light sleeper, request a room away from elevator or stairs. It’s nice to stay in a boutique hotel with a nice bar and good restaurant.
