Guest Reviews

- susan (10/5): A stop over that turned into a holiday. - booked as a stop over but loved it so much we stayed ten nights. We had a room near the pool and had this (pool!) to ourselves.
A short walk to the beach resort and we had a deserted beach, apart from fishermen, and a restaurant that overlooked the beach serving the most delicious food. A great menu or a Sri Lankan buffet. Fresh fruit juices at excellent prices.
The turtle hatching next door, the warm sea and the staff who smiled all the time and were so welcoming.
The dolphin trip. well-worth the money. having to leave. Not keen on the number of stray dogs but they were harmless.

Fantastic welcome
Great swimming pool
Nothing was missing a great place to stay

- Adina (9/5): - We had a very nice stay at the hotel. There are 2 parts, one on the beach and one a bit futher away (where we stayed) which has a beautiful garden and nice pool. The bathroom with open shower is really nice
Would recommend staying at this hotel!
- William (9/5): -
- Andree (10/5): - Vraiment très bien , grand confort
- Gabriele (9/5): Ein kleiner Geheimtip - Sehr freundliche und hilfsbereit Gastgeber.
- Jana (9/5): -
- Nathalie (9/5): Un cadre idyllique - La situation géographique de l’hôtel était exceptionnelle . Rien
- Svein (7/5): - Nightly visits from a couple of bats in the partly open air bathroom.
Few mosquitoes, which was good because the mosquito net was full of holes.
Breakfast.
The beach below the restaurant, if you don't mind the murky water (can't see the bottom - February), or the view down the cost to the coal terminal and the coal power plant.
We booked 4 nights, 2 nights at a time. Manager arranged so we got the same room for 4 nights (and the best of them). 3 out of four nights with loud music, not surprising when they advertise on their homepage "Omeesha Beach Hotel Kalpitiya is an ideal place for Private Parties, Cocktail Parties, Wedding Receptions, BBQ Night......."
I picked a medium size garbage bag with plastic waste from the beach below (and partly on) the property.
Along the beach away from the property, there is quite a lot of plastic waste. The walk to St. Anne's National Shrine along the beach could have been really nice, but on long stretches of the beach there is a huge amount of plastic waste.
Be aware that the rooms they advertise with "pool view" are in Ruveesha Resort, which is down the road and away from the beach (Omeesha does not have a pool).
- Andre (10/5): Site paisible.
- Dr. Ansgar (9/5): wonderful location run by a super friendly couple - Very delicious breakfast, wonderful location at the beach. Resort is run by a super friendly couple. Wifi was a little weak.
- Pavel (10/5): - If you need relax and a bit out of civilization this is the place In case of wind the aerogenerator is a bit noisy
- Jörg (10/5): - Fantastische Lage, sauberer Strand, sehr gutes Essen.
Alle waren sehr nett und hilfsbereit.
Drei Tage Entspannung pur. Danke
- Kapila (8/5): - Staff, location
- Jean (10/5): -
- Sherryl (9/5): 3 night stay - The location was amazing, right on the beach. Swimming in the sea was safe and enjoyable. The room was very clean and the bed was comfy. We liked the place so much we stayed an extra night. Karaoke on the first night kept us awake but after that everything was fine.
- Jenny (9/5): Relaxing beach stay. - Beach side location, very friendly and attentive staff. Most amazing breakfast - more food than we could eat! Evening meal also good. Quirky room with open air shower. Opportunity to do dolphin trip or massages but we didn’t take these up. Pool available in sister accommodation, but we swam in the sea. Owner helped with tuk tuk ride back to Puttalam to get onward bus Location quiet but this was due to effects post cyclone.
- Konrad (10/5): A simple yet wonderful place by a quiet, beautiful beach in a non-touristy area, with exceptional food, great value for - A simple but wonderful place right next to a quiet, beautiful beach. Located in a calm, less touristy area. Exceptional breakfast and dinner, excellent value for money, and a very friendly, attentive owner.
- Brigitte (10/5): Kleines, angenehmes Strandhotel - Sehr ruhig gelegen, nette Zimmer mit einem Aussenbadezimmer, sehr cool !
Besitzerehepaar sehr sehr freundlich.
- Anna-Karin (10/5): -
- Matthew (10/5): Lovely relaxed place right on the beach - The owners and staff were all delightful and the food was excellent, with generous portions. Option of using the pool in their sister hotel just round the corner.
- Vinoth (9/5): -
- Kvasha (10/5): Very good place, recommend -
Speziell gefallen hat uns auch das Outdoor Badezimmer (having a shower with the moon)!
- Tharindu (10/5): Exceptional - A very charming place to stay. You enter the beach through the pine trees. The gentleman and lady who own the place are very friendly. They chatted with us well and looked after our needs. The staff are also very helpful. The food is very tasty.
- Priyankara (9/5): Superb - Nice Beach and beach restaurant Room ac need improve
- Luisa (10/5): Beautiful sunsets! - Nice price-performance ratio!
Super friendly hosts and a nice room with outdoor shower/bathroom.
- Barbara (6/5): Pleasant - The Omeesha Beach Resort is beautiful: the bungalows are spacious, the area relaxing with beautiful sea view. On the beach there is unfortunately a lot of trash - a beach cleaning would be needed!
First they put us in Ruveesha, the cheaper version of Omeesha, 10 Min. walking distance away from the beach, breakfast area.. When we reclaimed, they first wanted an extra fee for the Omeesha bungalow but then gave it at the value we had booked originally. After that confusion, they tried to make up for it which was nice but then we got added service charges for the room. So all in all: Beautiful resort but management could be better.
- Sherille (10/5): An Island Paradise - We love staying in the individual Cabana, but they only have one left and I'm glad we got it. We also love being able to walk down to the beach in 1 minute and eat at the restaurant which is on the beach as well. His neighbouring property Ruveesha has a pool but is a longer walk to the beach..The food was excellent and their service staff manager with very good English was excellent and so friendly. The Omeesha Cabana had an attached outdoor bathroom with a cold water shower out of a conch shell as well as a separate hot water shower. All staff were very polite and helpful and the food was very tasty. The pan fried crab was excellent and I also loved the Sri Lankan breakfasts. I would have liked some seating in the room. We had to ask for a couple of outdoor chairs. And the back wall of the shower could have had a bit more scrubbing in parts to remove the discolouration.
- Harry (9/5): Superb - Great beach. Fantastic host. Lack of toilet paper.
- David (9/5): Exelent, nice place to enjoy Kalpitiya. - The staff was lovely and very helpful. We really enjoyed our two nights stay at the hotel.
- Ron (8/5): We loved the tranquility of the beach and surroundings. - Well maintained property with an excellent restaurant and very helpful staff. Swimming in the sea was ideal because the waves were not rough. We had the beach almost entirely to ourselves. We especially enjoyed the boat trip to view hundreds of dolphins that surrounded us. Some mosquitoes and flies.
- Carole (8/5): Very good - Beautiful beach front resort with a great restaurant and super friendly staff. They arranged a dolphin tour and we went from their beach, we've never seen so many dolphins it was amazing. We booked a poolside room but decided to upgrade as it was a distance away from the beach and restaurant. However the upgraded room had an outdoor washroom and toilet and even though it was a novelty it wasn't very practical.
- Denise (9/5): Superb -
- Claus (5/5): Passable - Food, close to beach, Pool and outdoor bath not clean.
(Not hotel fault) but.. pick me and uber, will not make pickup from this hotel (they arranged tuc tuc to bigger city
- Paul (10/5): We enjoyed our stay. - The staff were very helpful. There was a wide range of food available at all meals. The sea was lovely and calm for swimming. There were no currents. There was a nice view over the beach next to the property. It was virtually deserted and it was nice to walk along.
- Simon (8/5): Very good -
- James (8/5): Very good -
- Kathirgamaththamby (6/5): Pleasant -
- John (10/5): Great service - Very relaxed, friendly and helpful manager and staff. The standout feature of our stay was the breakfast, which is freshly cooked and will keep you going till dinner. I have a gluten allergy and the manager made a special.point of cooking food which I could eat.
- Shehan (8/5): “Excellent Stay! - I had a wonderful experience at this hotel. Everything was perfect, from the clean and comfortable rooms to the excellent service. The staff was friendly and attentive, ensuring a pleasant stay. The amenities were well-maintained, and the overall atmosphere was welcoming. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a hassle-free and enjoyable stay!”
- Bastian (1/5): Bad -
- Lise-lotte (10/5): Relaxing stay on the beach. - If you like to have a nice and relaxing stay close to the beach, this is the place. The owners and the staff was always helpful and friendly. Great food! Thanks for the New Year barbecue party!
- Bruni (9/5): Superb -
- Stephen (10/5): A fabulous quiet retreat - Helpful friendly staff and great food particularly the exceptional Sri Lankan chicken curry. Nothing really
- Teresa (8/5): Great quick stay! - Staff was really nice, the hosts were very attentive and took very good care of us. We were even allowed to do a (very) late check-out!
The local breakfast was incredibly tasty and varied (and unlimited)!
The location was great, right on top of the beach (we had a room with pool view, which was in a different location but only a 10min walk away). Rooms are quite humble but the experience and kindness made it more than worth it!
- Ashish (9/5): Perfect Stay by the beach - Excellent property with private beach No hot water
- Vijayasundaram (5/5): Passable -
- Dave (7/5): The service and food was out of this world just was expensive - The stag were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble Was very expensive for what it was
- Mandy (9/5): Superb -
- Mathi (10/5): Exceptional -
- Seb (10/5): Exceptional - An exceptional place! Great staff, great owners, great food, great outdoor shower. Loved every minute here.
- Malgorzata (10/5): Exceptional -
- Chloe (10/5): Lovely relaxing stay - Lovely location by the beach, the breakfast was phenomenal every morning, and very easy for vegetarians. The menu for dinner and lunch was very good and affordable. Staff are lovely and welcoming, they will always help you out. If you go in off season you won't be able to swim in the sea (around September) as it is too rough and sandy. But still a lovely relaxing place with a free pool close by!
- Hansi (9/5): Excellent - Clam and very beautiful place. Perfect for relaxing . Very beautiful clean beach. Breakfast is very tasty . Lunch and dinner is very tasty and have better selection . Specialy sea food plate is very amazing and unlimited supplying in reasonable prize. Friendly staff and attentive owners. We stayed 2 nights and enjoyed our stay very much.will come back again .
- Larraine (8/5): 5 stars to the staff - It was off season and our group of 10 were practically the only ones there. The cabanas were approx 20 km before Kalpatha. The rooms were very quaint with outside bathrooms. The beds were fitted with very snug mosquito nets and extremely comfortable. Location directly on the beach. The most outstanding part of our overnight stay were the staff. Charlo and his staff were exceptional and delivered the most wonderful Sri Lankan dinner buffet followed the next morning by an equally scrumptious breakfast. This is by no means a 5 star resort, it’s clean , comfortable and charming, and was perfect for an overnight stay. Beach outside the cabanas had rubbish. Staff should be more attentive to daily rubbish removal
- _thesulo (10/5): A unique experience - Location and concept is relaxing and amazing. Especially Cabanas among casuarina forest and the view of wind mills. There is no other place to have such experience in Sri Lanka. The rice and curry was made from local vegies picked the closer farmlands. And seafoods are also amazing too. The maneger and the all staff is so friendly supportive.
- Michael (8/5): Very good - Lovely outdoor bathroom, comfortable bed. Staff could not do enough for us, lovely full breakfast. We enjoyed the beachfront and outdoor dining area. Basic but comfortable. Value for money.
- John (5/5): Ok for 1 day,,,,,,,Perhaps, If eating befor arrival ! - See below Having stayed at quite a few places in Sri Lanka, At this price point, We were expecting better, I Know its by the Beach , But we were not expecting the whooshing of the wind turbines overhead !, Plus rubbish Internet, Or the OUTSIDE BATHROOM, Which could be seen as a novelty, But bringing wet sand etc into the bedroom is a hassle, Along with the worst bit, Thousands of ANTS.
Mosquitoes would have been peferred, As under a net, your safe, But ants got everywhere
The Restaurant, Is crazy expensive for what it serves up, We have stayed at a few places where the whole meal was cheaper than ANY of the starters here, And better. Problem is, theres nothing else around so tough.
Staff are nice, A good bunch
- Thanh (1/5): Bad -
- Don (9/5): Superb - One of the best placed I amstaying is then perfect front of the beach roo. It is a very comfortable air conditioning, running well service staff, and outstanding great service
especially breakfast, a lot of variety provide very nice breakfast, highly recommended Non
- Kim (3/5): Given a lot of scrubbing and maintenance it could be uplifted to be a super hotel. - The beach is nice but the waves have a strong pull. The dining areas and shaded areas are nice.
The rooms are adequate but like many hotel rooms in Sri Lanka lack clothes storage. The staff stand and watch you eating and became too familiar.
The bathrooms are dirty and have poor quality fittings.
The door lock broke so we were moved to a superior room, which had a similarly grubby bathroom,
- Marga (9/5): Superb - good location, great beach, nice rooms, comfortable beds, friendly staff
- Alan (9/5): Pleasant and relaxing - The staff were very attentive and were always friendly and keen to help. The breakfasts were lovely - possibly a bit overwhelming! They arranged dolphin watching one morning, and when we didn't see any dolphins they gave us a repeat tour the next day at cost price. The location is great for relaxing at the beach, but more difficult to get away for activities outside the hotel.
- Alix (10/5): Amazing time in this hotel! - Amazing place and amazing staff. Very friendly people ! Thank you for having us 🙏🏻
- Jacky (9/5): Wonderful hosts and staff in a place to do very little (bliss) - I had a wonderful peaceful time here. It was lovely to do very little, swim, walk and talk to the wonderful owners. The room was ideal and the most important thing about Omeesha are the owners. They are genuine lovely, welcoming hosts. This place is not just for westerners it has many Sri Lankans staying here which is a great way to meet and see people.
When you arrive you may feel disappointed as there are wind turbines close by (government owned) BUT DON’T let this put you off. Look beyond the immediate and remind yourself why you are here in Sri Lanka. Support the Sri Lankans who are working hard and in my opinion doing a great job amidst some difficult times.
- Nancy (9/5): Superb - Very friendly staff - amazing breakfast - one of the best during our 3 month stay in Sri Lanka. Nice bungalow with outdoor shower was a plus. Very comfortable bed. Beach was clean and safe to swim. Remote location- bicycle rental would have been nice to go around exploring.
- Armin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Madalina (1/5): Do not book this place!! - The only good thing was the ocean that didn’t have any waves and it was good to swimming. An absolute DISASTER! At first they are advertising as being a resort but the rooms are not so clean, the sheets and bedding smells like mole and the owners try to rip you off at any time. We had an incident at midday while taking a nap when the staff knocked to our door to alert us that a SNAKE slipped through the door and into our room. I jumped scared, started crying and shaking because snakes are my biggest fear. The staff and the owners were staying a couple of meters from the room, hence they were afraid of the snake too. They called a young boy and he massacred the snake in the room, leaving a huge mess behind. They said we can switch rooms but I told them we are leaving right now. The lady owner yelled at me “MAM, YOU ARE LEAVING TOMORROW“ because the next day was our check out. Hearing her yelling at me while I was physically shaking and crying, I got annoyed and told her she cannot dictate when I should leave or not. The bathroom is open to the outside so I couldn’t stay any longer knowing I can’t go to the bathroom in peace. She made me call booking to ask for checkout earlier because otherwise she would make us pay the full booking price. Thankfully for customer support of booking because they helped us to get out of there. We asked for the total bill and she inflated the service charge for rooms also (maybe for massacring the snake) and they took advantage of our situation and charged us 29.000 rupees for a car drive to Negombo. Their prices are ridiculous high comparing to the southern beaches, the property is not well maintained and they have a lot of staff but only a few are actually working. They also charge around 2.500 rupees for a main dish and the only fresh fish they are offering is tuna. We also eat shrimps but they were not cleaned and at breakfast they give you the hot water and an instant coffee do DIY. They also sold us a safari trip and charged us more than 50.000 rupees just for car transport, for 1h and 20 mins drive.
- Paul (8/5): Very nice stay and excellent food. - Room lovely. Food really good. Staff very friendly.
- Douglas (9/5): I spent six days relaxing at Omeesha and enjoyed every minute of it. - Great location on a lovely, quiet stretch of beach, very good for swimming. The included breakfast is delicious and very generous, as are all of the meals. My room was very comfortable and quiet. Staff are pleasant and helpful, and the owners do everything they can to make you feel at home. I thoroughly recommend this hotel! Nothing, all good.
- Ted (10/5): The ultimate place at the Kalpitya peninsula - Very nice place - nice rooms, open air shower, nice beach, very good breakfast and dinner and above all: a very nice family, so hospitable and frendly Mosquitos - unavoidable in rainy season
