Guest Reviews
- noel l (10/5): Favourite hotel - Everthing Nothing
- SUSAN (8/5): Apart from position of room, a very good stay - Location, friendliness of staff, breakfast was very good and evening meal was very enjoyable. Room number 16 implied 1/2 floor but no lift and too many stairs for an 80 year old. Also 4 further steps in bedroom to get to bathroom.
- Beverley (4/5): Well short of expectations and not inkeeping with the brand. - The location and grounds The clue is in the name! Whilst we were told the spa would be open until 6pm, we retuned from our sponsored walk at 4:30 to find it closed. The spa was the ONLY reason I booked this hotel, and the Radisson brand! Not good rough!
- Valerie (8/5): Enjoyable. - Breakfast was good. Staff were helpful. Lounges were comfortable. Heating in the room was too high.
- John (4/5): We would not stay here again. - Only average No Fried or Poached Eggs. Bacon overcooked and like leather.
- Paul (6/5): Staff amazingly efficient and polite - Breakfast very good. Would have been nice to have more variety of fruit. Liked the verandah and some of the bed room. Bathroom was excellent. The lack of clear information in the room info book eg the menu said that chips were gluten free. Good job that I checked with the restaurant as they aren't. If I hadn't seen the menu downstairs I would have been ill all weekend. Lack of clear instructions. The booklet said hang your notice on the door if you don't want your room serviced. We didnt hence no room service for 3 days. There was also no notification of how to control the heat in the room. What I thought was the heat control we found out that it was in fact the heated towel radiator control which was obviously broken. The extension overlooking the pool was really cold
Management really need to read through and update the info provided to guests urgently especially when it misinformation ie chips gluten free.
Friends stayed in other rooms and a carpet was badly stained as were some of the chairs.
As the hotel has been taken over by Radisson the management said that plans to change things were in place
- jeremy (6/5): Location good room poor - Location Being at the rear of the property in a very drab part of the hotel
- Jackie (8/5): - We stayed in the New Bath Hotel whilst walking the Derwent Valley Heritage Trail. The hotel is on the trail so no detour required. The main building of the hotel is smart and the gardens and outdoor pool are an attraction. The bar and restaurant areas were welcoming.
The breakfast was a buffet and there was a choice of hot or cold options.
Our rooms were spacious with a nice view of the pool. Our rooms were in an extension at the back of the hotel and were a long way to walk with suitcases. This building was cold and in need of decoration.
The evening menu was a bit limited for choice and the hotel is on the outskirts of Matlock Bath so not many alternatives within walking distance.
- gary (4/5): I’m glad I booked the hotel before Radisson bought it, as the price per night doubled and it wasn’t worth the original p -
- Stephen (9/5): - The bathroom was modern & spacious. The bed was v comfortable with a lovely balcony & view of the lido. The bedroom carpets were looking a little tired.
- AMY (8/5): Overall a nice place to stay - Location was excellent, the main part of the hotel is really nice but it’s not as nice in the older part of the building which over looks the pool. Breakfast is lovely and staff also really nice. It is a little run down and smelt like smoke as there was lots of little bonfires
- Denise (4/5): -
- Marie (9/5): -
- Paul (7/5): - Location
- Emma (5/5): -
- Hornby (10/5): -
- Colin (8/5): Great staff, good location. - Location is great, a five minute walk into Matlock Bath. Lovely staff, spacious room, nice bathroom with quality toiletries. Some of the carpets are getting a little stained and worn. Swimming pool was VERY cold!
- Helen (7/5): Nice place to stay for a couple of nights, would visit again. - The hotel was calm, quiet and intimate. Staff were polite, pleasant and helpful. The room had a nice outlook and a balcony. The room itself was comfortable and spacious. Breakfast was enjoyable. In general the hotel needs updating. The outside of the building’s in particular. Some areas are run down, needing painting or repairs, TLC.
- Jim (6/5): Ok hotel but nothing more - Location good and car parking. Rooms were ok. Spa was poor - Closed at 5pm. Sauna and steam temp too low and in a poor condition- no water to drink. Parts of room dirty hadn’t been thoroughly cleaned for some time.
- Nick (5/5): - got down for breakfast at 9.30 told they had stopped serving Marianne (ithink that was her name) did her very best but the bacon was black very disappointed let the hotel down
- Richard (8/5): -
- karen (8/5): -
- Jones (9/5): -
- Barson (9/5): - Im a lido fan so for me to swim daily in. The spring fed lido was a big highlight. I felt the room we were in could do with bit of update in decor. Loved the balcony and comfy bed. Carpet needs replacing.
- Adeela (8/5): Very lovely staff and historic remarkable hotel -
- Victoria (6/5): - Location, Lido. Staff Food was poor. Breakfast was really very poor
- Deborah (6/5): Staff friendly and doing their best - Staff were friendly. Decent breakfast. Room nice. Food menu limited, choice of bar drinks limited.
- Emma (8/5): -
- Simon (10/5): - Everything especially the very helpful staff Leaving
- Deborah (6/5): Okay but slightly disappointed - The staff were helpful and friendly Limited food menu for dinner. We had the bed and breakfast, dinner rate! Very few choices. The hotel needs a little attention. Looking a bit dated. It is not very accessible at all. I know it’s a listed building but some basic changes such as having a toilet on the same level as the bar/restaurant is a must. My mother really struggled with the 10 steps. There is a cloakroom /storage room which could be converted or a stair lift added.
- Maisie (5/5): Nice comfy bed, in Matlock, everything else was bad - Location was nice Had little option for breakfast and dining area was a mess, spa didn’t look nice or clean (overpriced aswell), “garden view room with balcony” building looked a mess and could pass as a council flat building, windows need a good clean. I feel like we were completely ripped off!
- Patricia (8/5): - Very helpful and accommodating staff, particularly Simran. Lovely traditional hotel with potential to be spectacular. Reasonable price Some areas looking rather tired. In rooms more attention needs to be given to general cleaning, walls, skirting etc, although beds and bathrooms spotless. A lift or stair lift needs, to be put in place asap.
- timothy (8/5): Good for our reunion. Very good restaurant nearby in Matlock Bath - Lovely location. Friendly staff excellent car park.
This an old building ,well cared for but old fashioned
,so no lift
Breakfast buffet adequate to goodgoo
,
- christopher (10/5): Excellent - Hospitality,cleanliness and location
- Barbara (8/5): Pleasant stay lovely staff on reception - The outdoor pool was great, natural flowing water
Rooms good size with balcony
Shower large
Tea & coffee good stock Having to Lane swim in the pool
Pillows hard
- Glen (8/5): Garden views terrace really good - Location really good Asked for two extra pillows which we never got
- Lucie (5/5): -
- Ann (9/5): A good base for walks to Cromford and Masson Mills and Cromford village for fab bookshop . Frequent buses up and down th - Location, view from room in the extension , naturally heated pool Only a bedside light on one side of bed
- Emily (8/5): Family trip - Location!
Exceptional service from the gentleman on reception who also looked after the bar and set our room up too!
Mini bar snacks included
Dinner included
Reasonably priced drinks
Shower was great
Comfy bed
Very quiet at night Sofa bed for our daughter was very uncomfortable with visible springs
Skirting boards in room and corridoors dirty and chairs in dining room dirty
Not enough chairs for tables in back garden
- Blagg (7/5): Great staff, great location and pool amazing but breakfast is their weakness - Location, staff, pool Breakfast was very limited. They could do so much more including a decent coffee machine. Room was cold and needed towel hanging hooks for the bathroom.
- Jayne (10/5): Really lovely staff, great bar area, beautiful old building - Great location Bit tired wouldn’t take much to spruce it up
- Sheila (4/5): Disappointed evening - Comfy bed ..nice bathroom. Location of room..round the back of building near staff quarters..carpet in room stained and had lumps in it..no indoor pool and unheated outdoor pool..sauna holds only 4 people on first come basis of £15pp.old mattresses stored outside in an alcove..dirty laundry outside in containers.
- Lee (6/5): Brilliant value for money with a brilliant location - Food was amazing value for money everything cooked perfect , staff was very pleasant and friendly. I think the comfort of the bed wasn’t up to much but I can only get on with a firm mattress .
- Malcolm (9/5): - Great setting . Immaculate inside and out! Great and very Professional staff. Ever wiling to serve you! Well what can I say about the Lido experience… Fantastic and excilarating ! Oh and nearly forgot we can wholeheartedly recommend the dining experience and the breakfast …. Lovely food and very tasty !😋 Exterior to the hallway needs updating as some windows didn’t close properly, so draughty( single pane)
Perhaps separate section fr animal friendly rooms!
- Janet (7/5): -
- Marvet (5/5): Our stay was made lovely by the friendliness of staff, guests and those at the pool. The pool side - The view from my room and the staff helpfulness. The condition of the hotel itself was a little substandard requiring deep clean and redecoration.
- Jennifer (6/5): Adequate, comfortable but no better than Premier Inns and had thought "Radisson" might offer more. - Very comfortable (garden room) adequately equipped plus lovely view of the outdoor pool and grounds. Quantity of staircases, given that we have some mobility issues! Carrying up luggage was tiring, even though this was only 1 floor with 2 shortish flights and the car can be parked outside. Feel very strongly that Booking. com should make this clear, and grateful the hotel emailed to warn us.
The dinner menu was adequate but unexceptional and and both Booking.com and the hotel, should advertise the value of the included allowance.
Although the hotel has been upgraded in the 2 years since a change in ownership, it is still a work in progress. Being in the Radisson Group implies a higher standard than we found.
- Vanessa (10/5): -
- Helen (8/5): -
- Andrew (10/5): -
- Andrew (6/5): -
- Johnson (10/5): Enjoyable and relaxing - Updates improving the hotel, the facilities were good, especially the outdoor pool. The bar and restaurant were clean, comfortable, good quality and reasonably priced. No gym. It’s advertised as a spa so needs a gym
- Jacqueline (10/5): Perfect few days away - Great stay from the reception, to the room, breakfast and dinner
- Sarah (10/5): -
- Celia (10/5): - Everything. 11 out of 10.
- Alison (8/5): Comfortable hotel in great location - Friendly and helpful staff, lovely outdoor pool, great location
- carol (10/5): -
- Carla (8/5): Ideal location for our event and we will stay there again. - We had a lovely meal in the restaurant. For us the room was too hot (even when we turned the radiator off). The pillow for me was too hard. I had left my pillow at home unfortunately.
- Susan (10/5): Very pleasant and enjoyable - Ideal location. Plenty of parking. Nothing
- Tony (7/5): Nice relaxing stay , in beautiful Matlock. - Room was very comfortable and clean and a nice view of the pool. Staff were very nice and helpful, we enjoyed the use of the sauna steam room and hot tub. Breakfast area needs updating. Food containers need replacing.
- Stephen (9/5): Staff were all great. Dinner was excellent. -
- Moira (7/5): - Staff were very friendly and helpful, rooms comfortable but could do with an update. Menu a little deceptive as a doubt the fish and chips were as stated they were probably frozen which is fine but they are described as fresh cod and and cooked chips, more like Aldi frozen.
We stayed in a garden view room which was an annexe of the hotel and could do with some TLC, also it faced on to the lido which is a lovely view, however it is very widely used by non residents and is very noisy in the early morning.
If you enjoy swimming this place is for you as you can use the lido free of charge and it is lovely.
The spa is not up to much, it's very small and in a small open space between buildings, there is a hot tub, steam room and sauna.
Position of the hotel is ideal to walk into Matlock bath, and the grounds are nice.
Overall I would rate our visit as average.
- Dennis (8/5): Battery Recharge time? - Left to do what we wanted to? With help if required,! We have been before,so we know what to expect,
- Jayne (10/5): -
- Jane (3/5): This was not good value for over £155/night - Because I do not take tea/coffee for medical reasons, I requested hot chocolate for breakfast which was supplied the first two days by the lovely waiters but from the third day the manager flatly refused and asked me to pay for it. I suggested he gets a small tab of hot chocolate to offer together with the teas/coffees but this was not accommodated. In the end I had to bring my own hot chocolate for the rest of our stay even though we had paid for breakfast. I was very disappointed The seats in the dining room were very dirty even the floor was not clean. We were first offered the annex where the room was very cold with a dirty balcony. We then asked to be moved to the main building which had a better room. Overall we were expecting a better standard befitting a Radisson hotel
- Scott (5/5): -
- Rebecca (8/5): A lovely place for a romantic mini break - Great location, beautiful view from the room, delightful staff Everything needs a bit of a freshen up
- Navneet (5/5): This place is outdated , to find rooms not easy if it’s upstairs - Location Rooms , carpet, bed stained ,
All these not cleaned and stained every where ,
Bathrooms looks nice and clean but shower is without pressure
- C (6/5): Average stay for a family with young children. It fell short of expectations for a Radisson property and did not justify - Good location, quiet and clean room The double beds were too small to comfortably accommodate two people. Our room was located in an annex separate from the main hotel, and the exterior was quite unappealing, resembling a council building rather than a hotel.
We also had to walk around the car park to reach the main building for breakfast and reception, which was inconvenient—especially for a family stay.
Overall, it was an average experience, but not one I would choose to repeat.
- Miles (10/5): - Excellent friendly staff.
- Geraint (10/5): -
- Jareedah (10/5): -
- william (7/5): Nice place good staff avoid food - Warm great location friendly helpful staff Food Had a burger burnt hard dry definitely don’t eat here breakfast was tasteless everything was over cooked apart from eggs they were under cooked
- Arthur (1/5): - They didn't didn't clean room properly
No towels soap refill
Advertised room incorrectly. Room was large enough for a family
- Anuja (5/5): Good location but average accommodation - Location
Pool Rooms were given to complete strangers with interconnecting door with no privacy and full sound transmission !! These rooms are clearly family rooms which should only be used for families .
The carpets in the annexe corridor are very dirty
The rooms have been modernised but there was wrappers behind the tables
- Dean (4/5): - The hotel needs some money spent on it. It is an old building and real mixture.. Floors are uneven and there are old window frames and cracked doors. The staff? Accommodation looks terrible.
- lester (8/5): -
- Barbara (9/5): Excellent location, good value for money. - Interesting history. Comfortable bed. Lack of lighting in bedroom in seating and desk area.
- Monica (4/5): Not for kids - Rooms were clean and staff were nice. Shame about the Lido being Adults only, only found out after booking, thought all were family friendly. The spa area is a hottub outside in small cold unappealing cemented area and only small amount of people are allowed to use it first come first serve basis, so you can't turn up when you want.
- Peter (3/5): Over charges and under delivered I’m glad I didn’t bring a child into that kind of room - The staff were helpful and friendly The room was dirty and smelled as did the hall ways the bed was horrendous the carpets need a clean there was dirt on the walls and widows the toilet roll had a brown stain cups and glasses needed changing as they were filthy
- Kenneth (7/5): Short 2 night stay - Next visit would prefer a room on a lower floor. Too many stairs for our ages. Too many stairs.
- Swales (7/5): - Thermal pool was amazing Multiple stains all over bedroom carpets
- Ryan (5/5): Wouldn’t want to return only for day at spa - History and how pretty the grounds were Our bedroom was to hot, no switch to turn off heating, beside tables were dusty, no fresh towels in bathroom.
- Janine (10/5): Great hotel for s shortly stay. - The TV in the room was not a smart TV. We wanted to catch up on some shows so they changed our room for us. Very helpful. Nothing.
- Andrew (8/5): - Lovely room, excellent staff, amazing pool. Breakfast was average and no proper coffee machine
- Emma (7/5): - I have stayed here before. The staff are always very helpful and welcoming. The bed was comfortable and good choices at breakfast. I stay here because ots convenient to use the Lido. The room I was offered to start with was incredibly hot. Although the radiators weren't on there were some boiling hot pipes running through the room. I was moved to a room with no obvious pipes which was still unnecessarily warm. I had both windows wide open but had to sleep with no covers. I think the pipes were boxed in and still emitting heat.
- Katrina (9/5): - Very friendly staff
- Nicola (10/5): - Absolutely beautiful soundings. All the staff were brilliant. Yes it's a little tired in some areas but aren't we all! Can't fault it for the money in Easter.
Only negative is we booked to go in the Lido and under 18 can't go in but rang up and absolutely no under 18 but the hotel information said from 4-5pm they can go in. We went to the Arc in Matlock instead on the way to it.
For the money, service cannot recommend enough thank you
The beds were so comfortable The carpets could do with a clean and a plug socket next to the bed
- David (8/5): Pleasant stay - Clean interior but the outside needs some TLC. Staff are friendly and supportive. Mistakes about the meal bill. However, this was quickly resolved.
- Richard (9/5): Very helpful staff - Room, breakfast and a beef steak meal perfectly cooked. You don't find this in many places,
- Lisa (9/5): - Great location. Clean & comfortable room. Good view from the balcony.k
- ZONA (1/5): Worst hotel - The bed was comfortable The hygiene and cleanliness and security of the annexe was the worst i have ever seen. This hotel should not he advertised until completed renovated. At the back of hotel was so bad. A building full of old matrasses and loads of containers will old bedding!! The TV was intermittent.
- Michael (8/5): Great location but not up to four star standard - We booked a two-night stay in a garden room which had a balcony overlooking the pool. We didn't actually use the balcony as it was a little too cold and I would add that the chairs provided out there were of pretty poor quality. The first floor room was fine and was housed in the annex so you have to check in at reception and then drive the car around the back of the hotel to reach a second car park adjacent to this annex. Signage could be better regarding which of the two doors to enter to get to your room. We parked at the right hand end but then found our room was at the other end of the building so was an unnecessary longer walk. Cooked breakfast was identical both days and of decent quality. The open air pool is a very pleasant area and seemed to be well-used, especially by people not actually staying at the hotel with summer season tickets to use the facility. My partner loved it but then again she is an experienced cold water swimmer. The overall appearance of the place was pretty shabby for a four star hotel, especially around the back where we had to go. Casual arrivers might take one look and drive straight back out to the road and look elsewhere.
- Louise (2/5): To corrupt a well known phrase......Not even fur coat and no knickers ..... just naked rip off! - This hotel has huge potential to be a stand out destination in the area. It sits in an enviable location above the road and has lovely grounds including an outdoor swimming pool fed by the local spa waters. Our room overlooked the pool and a beautiful old magnolia tree that was in full bloom. This view OUT was the best thing about the hotel, everything else was a huge disappointment. This hotel has very recently been taken over by the Radison hotel chain and clearly needs a huge amount of investment to return it to what will have been (many years ago) a grand and beautiful hotel. Unfortunately instead of letting guest know the situation - i.e. this is an ongoing project with a lot of work to do on a tired, faded, and grubby hotel, they don't! We paid £300 for a two day stay in a 'superior room' with breakfast, and assumed that was what we were buying into. Sadly not the case! The room was dismal - a visible dirty and damaged bed base on view (not even covered with a valance sheet) and archaic window blinds and curtains that did not work. Mold and spiders webs were visible in the windows. Corridors and carpets had a distinct 'beyond their sell by date' smell about them (musty, damp, old food aromas), and many pictures, windows, and mirrors throughout the building were smeared with finger prints and the general detritus of communal use. Breakfast was passable but not inspirational and the quality of public spaces tired, old fashioned, and lacking in any charm or style. The newest thing we encountered was the recently installed brolly stand in reception where an umbrella could be hired for £3 a day!! As a priority I would have thought this came a long way down the list.
To cap of a poor stay our room was not serviced whilst we were out - apparently our fault for not hanging a 'please service my room' tag on our door - sadly no such tag was even in the room to use. A thoroughly unsatisfactory stay where a hotel chain is charging top dollar for rooms that are substandard. Just be honest charge £90 b&b until the refurbishment has been complete and then charge appropriately. We would have happily parted with our £300 for something special - what we got was special needs!!
- Steve (1/5): -
- sue (9/5): Lovely setting, Moses - Friendly welcome, lovely setting, dog friendly. Being able to use the outdoor pool was a real bonus. N/A
- Dawn (8/5): Ideally situated for a stay in Matlock. - Our room was lovely, with view of the garden and pool. Visited in March, room was warm and bed very comfortable. Breakfast was included, good choice. Dining rooms have a more modern feel, very nice. All the staff we met were exceptionally friendly and professional and made our stay even more enjoyable.
- Amanda (8/5): -
- Edward (10/5): Great place to stay - All of it! Lovely staff great service
Went for my wife's birthday and couldn't come away with any criticism at all
Looking for dates to come back
Thank you
- Emma (8/5): - Lovely hotel and grounds with friendly staff, I booked a treatment and it was truly amazing and felt refreshed for the rest of the day.
The Lido was awesome 😁 very worth the travel and the food great. The spa could go with better up keep and maintenance as some things were broken or outdated. Also a later opening in the Spa would have been ideal.
My room temperature did feel like I was sleeping in a boiler room no way to Turn it down but it was comfortable.
